“I urge everyone out there not to use Sixt car rental!...”

written by on 21/09/2009

I urge everyone out there not to use Sixt car rental! I rented a 4-door Audi A3 for what was supposed to be a month as my family and I just transferred to Germany (U.S. Air Force). Well, there was some confusion on my part and I wound up filling our diesel car with unleaded, however I knew better not to start the car and pushed it to the curb to be towed. Now, I'm a mechanic, and I know what's involved in a case such as this: drain, flush, and re-fill, especially since the fuel was contained within the fuel tank. Not when Sixt has something to say about it: I received a statement for 4,800 Euro (nearly $7k) two weeks later and details of how their mechanic replaced nearly the entire fuel system. I'm currently trying to fight this bill, but Sixt is as stubborn as they're stupid and they're sticking to their guns.

We rented a car from Munich to Lake Garda, Italy and specifically requested for a Navigation for our destination and a diesel engine car. We were not given either. We had to drive to another location to collect the right Navi and coming from English speaking countries, we didn't realise the engine was benzine and filled up the car with diesel which resulted in a huge bill to the mechanic. Why ask us for an option for engine type and change it without informing us. We wrote in and are offered a reimbursement of 30%. Not very good customer service. Would not recommend Sixt car hire to anyone else and would share by bitter with everyone I know.

written by on 08/09/2009

I used a comparison website to book car rentail for our holiday to Malaga and Sixt seemed very competative.
We were basically covered for everything "under the sun",but not for the loss of a car key. Apparently all second car keys wherever you rent your sixt car from are based in Germany.
we have never heard something so ridiculous and the cost to replace the key was EUR275 and we lost the key on day 3 of the 7 day rental and therefore had no car for the rest of our holiday. we had to travel to the airport to log our claim of lost key which we spend half of the day there discussing the extortionate cost for the replacement key and also that we would have been better off if we had crashed the car or even if someone had stolen it as we were covered for everything but a key
We will not use this company again

After reading the other negative reports I was wary of booking with Sixt but as some of the other companies I had previously had good experience with also had poor reviews I decided to give it a try because they were the cheapest.

Sixt was very competitively priced and I still got an excellent service. The car hire at Plama airport was well signposted and staffed by friendly and helpful people. The car itself was spotlessly clean (when we picked it up!) and a apart from a couple of minor "hire car" dents and scratches was quite new having only 27k kilometres on the clock. It was also a nice surprise to get the Meriva which was more than roomy enough for all our needs (was expecting polo size car).

On returning the car there was no problem when I asked to bring it back a couple of hours later than agreed (still in the 8 day hire period).

In summary I was very pleased with Sixt and would definitely use the company again.

“I reserved a car with Sixty in France back in May for...”

written by on 06/08/2009

I reserved a car with Sixty in France back in May for travel in August. When I contacted them to change my dates by four days, I was told I could neither change my reservation nor cancel it as I had missed the "deadline" which was in the terms and conditions of their contract. I reviewed the terms and conditions again and saw nothing about a deadline under the heading "Cancellation". I even copy/pasted their own Terms to them and asked for clarification and again requested to cancel as there was no deadline mentioned. It was only then that they sent me a footnote to the terms which indicated the cancelation deadline and insisted that they would charge me for the rental which I am unable to now use or revise. This is a very bad business practice and I believe they have treated me very unethically in this deliberate bait and switch in their terms. Had I seen a cancellation deadline mentioned under the terms initially, I would have NEVER booked with this company.

Not only that, but the customer service people I have been working with have been shunting me back and forth for more that two weeks with a runaround - transferring me hither and yon before someone finally told me about the deadline.

This company is very BAD news. The low price isn't worth the bad faith business practices.

“Terrible experience with our 11-day rental, a...”

written by Zokson on 31/07/2009

Terrible experience with our 11-day rental, a nightmare that just doesn't want to go away. On the day we picked up the car, we realized they would make every attempt to keep the $500 pre-auth deposit (damage deductible) - and that's exactly how it worked out.
We returned the car in an immaculate shape and there were absolutely no notes on the condition of the car on the return form. However, the electronic key gave us trouble throughout the trip and we were even stranded in Greece for almost a whole day without any roadside assistance provided by Sixt. Instead, they saw an opportunity to charge for the key itself (even thought there was no visible damage on it) - and the arbitrary price for it so far has been CAD$1,200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They debited $800, returned $385, then took out another $800 - even though the total authorization they had was for $800 (or 500 EUROS).
Now that we are back home, no one is taking responsibility - even though we rented from a Sixt outlet in Skopje and our contract clearly said Sixt on it, without any other company names.
But Sixt says - sorry, you have a contract with our supplier in Skopje and they hung up on me 3 times. Promised to have supervisor call me back within 48 hours and that was weeks ago.
The worst car rental experience ever, complete lack of accountability.

The car was different from what was on the Sixt Car Hire site, a totally different model as listed anywhere on their website. Also had to wait for more than 3 hours for the car! They did not phone me or something like that, So I had to wait in the middle of nowhere. Really poor service afterwards... all they said was is 'I can't help it'

We rented from Sixt in May 2008. Our credit card was charged for a speeding ticket in June 2009 without any pre-warning from Sixt. We eventually received notice that it was for a speeding ticket plus additional charges because Sixt did not pay the bill on time. Now in July, 2009, our credit card was charges again. We have no clue why although I have emailed Sixt to request an explanation.

Booked through Monarch Airline at a good low rate (eartlybird). Read many bad reports about Sixt and was dubious about hiring. Arrived at Alicante at 11 am straight to the desk and was pleasantly suprised with two excellent young ladies who said that the Astra that I had ordered was not available and I would be upgraded to a Peugeot 308 that was fine by me .
The car was nearly new 800Km on the clock and immaculate in and out. After hiring from other companies over many years this car hire was the best.

“I flew out from Calgary, Canada to Munich Airport and...”

★★★★★

written by LadyLuckMV on 22/06/2009

I flew out from Calgary, Canada to Munich Airport and rented a vehicle with Sixt.
I booked it online and within minutes I had my confirmation sent to me. I also notified them that I needed a vehicle that could cross the border into Croatia, and they had no issues with that.
Once I arrived at the Airport, there was no line up at Sixt and I was helped immediately.
The lady working the front desk was very helpful and even spoke English and explained everything to me.
She even let me choose my vehicle out of the Category that I paid for, and when they didnt have the car that I picked available she made every effort to find me a vehicle that suited my needs.

I paid 425.00 Euros for 16 days which was more than reasonable.

After explaining how to get to the parkade she gave me my papers and keys and off I went.
After arriving at the parkade and finding my car I was amazed at the vehicle that I received. I got a brand new Ford Fiesta that was more than perfect.

I put nearly 5000 km on that rental car in my 2 weeks that I had it, and unfortunately I ended up scratching the front passenger rim a little, to which I wasnt charged.

In munich (bavaria) the car wash stations are closed on sundays, so therefore I could not wash the vehicle when i returned it and explained it to the lady at the drop off station to which she replied that it was no problem as the vehicles have to be washed and detailed again before they are rented out. I was not charged for this either.

My overall experience with Sixt has been excellent, and I will definitely be renting with them in the future. Their vehicles are excellent to drive and the staff are a pleasure to deal with.

Thumbs up for Sixt!

written by anesser on 29/04/2009

Horrible experience! I rented a Ford Focus for 3 days in Nice France, filled it up with gas prior to its return, and the car turned out to be a Diesel. As a result the vehicle stalled and had to be towed.
-The car had no markings that it was diesel
-The contract had no mention of the car being a diesel
-The rental agent did not mention this fact
-The representative who came to tow the car signed the receipt that the car had no markings as a Diesel.

SIXT Car hire charged me a $480.00 damage fee and an $80.00 refueling fee.
They have refused to accept any responsibility for renting a vehicle without proper markings.

I rented a car from the train station in Germany, and was told that it would cost me 108.41 Euro, and that I would be able to drop it off at any Sixt in Germany. Well in the end I dropped it off on a Sunday, the location was closed on Sunday and Monday so the have charged me for those two days AND without it being in my contract I was charged DOUBLE what I should have been. I was told it was a deposit, but to me I would get a deposit back the day I return the car not the "up to 28 days" I was told it could be before I get it back.

NEVER EVER AGAIN WITH SIXT.

We hired a car from Sixt in Paris in March 2009 por 2 days...we wanted to have a nice experience so we rented a Mercedes Benz...SURPRISE!!!! the driver mirror was broken and the car had some scratches...when we told that to the staff lady she was completlely indiferent and she never moved from her seat...when I told her that I was dissapointed with the car and that I want another, she asked me WHY?????

Worst....when we start driving that car (because they told us that it was the only available) the oil alert notify us that there was NO OIL, so we stopped in the next gas station and tried to call customer service for advice...nobody paid attention to us!!! Finally another indiferent guy told us to put any diesel oil that we can find...

NEVER EVER AGAIN WITH SIXT.

We hired a car from Sixt in Sydney in April 2009 for 10 days. The depot is a couple of kms from the airport and so we asked how long it would take for the 'meet and greet' service to take us back to the airport on return. We were told it was no problem as there were always two staff and we could be dropped back anytime. So we came back 2hours prior to an international flight, were told that the only staff member there had no suitable car to drop us and could not do anything. After a few shouting matches about who's responsibility it was to get us there) we hailed a taxi in this rather remote industrial area and 45 mins later were off to the airport. All this with 3 little kids. They refused to pay for the cab. NEVER EVER AGAIN WITH SIXT.

“Highly recommend Sixt Care Hire Kings Cross, London, UK. ”

Highly recommend Sixt Care Hire Kings Cross, London, UK.

Generalyl people only leave reviews when they have had a bad experience and I have left plenty of bad ones over the years so I thought I would leave a review on a very good experience for one.

I normally find hiring cars pretty stressful, long queues, have I got the right documents, beaten up cars with not all the damaged marked, half filled fuel tanks and arguements regarding damage on return.

I normally book through the car hire on pentonville road towards Angel - normally very stressful. Booking with Sixt in Kings X (Caledonian Road) was cheap and quick. We checked in online in advance which meant minimal fuss when we got to the centre which was nicely tucked away with no queues and amazingly for a car hire centre really FRIENDLY and approachable staff. Brand new car in an out in 5 minutes, guy from the garage helped us check the car over for damage enough thought it had only done 2 miles.

So we broughr car back and had not noticed we had damaged the hub cap as we scuuffed it on the kerb when parking. Obviousl it was our fault as we checked before we took the car. We were gutted to hear the standard charge for this was £75 (the booking itself was only £58) and I pointed out I could buy an entire new set of hub caps for about £30!. The guy on the desk was polite and advised us to call and check as this was a standard charge that on further inspection may go down - he gave us a named contact. I did not have high hopes but after called 2 days later we were advised that as the damage was minimal we would not be charged at all!

Overall a fantastic experience and I will book here again even if it is slightly more expensive (on this occasion it wasn't). Even if we had been charged the £75 I think I would have recommended them, as it turned out I high recommend them!

written by mkofi on 23/03/2009

I hired a car via the internet from Sixt Car Hire and the pick up point was Budapest Airport. The rate was an attractive ' 178 for a 9 seater minibus for the weekend. At the airport I was not made aware by the desk agent that he had added ' 100 extra insurance even though in my numerous e-mails with reservation agent I was told that the ' 178 was a full and final price. On returning I have sent numerous e-mails to Sixt Budapest however the beligerant Attila Hortob gyi refuses to refund the added extras. I have raised a dipute with my credit card provider.

PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND DO NOT USE SIXT.

I will never use them again.

I have hired a car at Sixt twice and many other times in other companies. I didn't have my car checked as in other occasions, and when returning home they charged me 1000'due to damage. I had the pictures of the damage sent by email, the door was completely destroyed. For me it is obvious the damage was made at Charles de Gaulle Sixt car park after we returned the vehicle. The car park is in the open air and badly lightened so anyone could have caused that damage.

They are definitely a car rental company, you pick your rental car up from their SIXT depot/office, and I have always been able to select the exact vehicle I wanted.

Sixt are the actual car hire company and just for your information, I had a pleasant and problem free experience with them.
