“worst day of my life”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 494Moss on 18/09/2018

This is by far the worst car rental company I have ever dealt with and hope ever will!!!! hired a minibus to take 13 of us to a charity event (including a 1 year old baby). I opted for the premium roadside assistance etc and paid the extra £100 or so.On our journey we had just left our hotel when an artic lorry ran into the rear of us ( no one was seriously injured ).this happened outside Crewe at 11am on a Saturday. After phoning the sixt support line, we were left with a smashed up vehicle at the side of the road in the wind and rain.1 hour passed we phoned again ! sixt were not able to get any dealers to answer the phone , but if we wanted we could try one ! 2 hours later we phoned them back again as they had not got back to us , we were told not much they can do ,I told them we were going to have to try and get taxis and there van would be unsecured due to lack of windows and I was told I would be in breach of t & cs and id be liable ! .another hour passed and we called back ,now they said they could not get us a 17 seater ,but we managed to find out they were sending someone to recover their van (no us just the van).we made our way back to our hotel. Now with no van. Due to us travelling from all over the uk I now only needed a 7 seater but this was not available either I asked for 2 cars but no to this. They said I could try traveling to Birmingham airport and rent another !after several more calls and stress they told us we would have to make out own way home and TRY and claim it back. so I picked the van up in Glasgow so I had to pay £700 on train tickets not to mention food hotels and taxis. I have submitted form and still nothing. Total disgrace to abandon its customers in wind and rain including a 1 year old baby miles from anywhere . "All services may only be ordered by a direct claim with Sixt 24-hour Roadside Assistance. They shall also determine the type and extent of service required to ensure the renter stays mobile." There words not mine

“Manager ”

written by jgi775 on 16/09/2018

I booked a Renault SUV car with Sixt car hire for pick up in August At 1515 on 11.8.18 my wife and I the Sixt desk at Glasgow Airport I handed over my booking form, licence and DVLC form the man on the desk said he did not have an intermediate SUV He said I could have a BMW X1 for an extra £390! I refused he then said I could have it if I paid another £190 for the Insurance I refused and requested a car He said he didn’t have one and was quite rude about it He then said we were 30 minutes early to collect the car I said what will happen in 30 minutes he “you will just have to wait and see” in a threatening manner 15 minutes later he closed the desk We followed him to the booth next to the cars he spoke to another Sixt employee got on a bike and cycled off We showed the 2nd employee all our paperwork he asked to see our passports I did not have my passport but showed him photocopies. He said this was unacceptable and he would not complete the car hire He cancelled it and we were left stranded we had to wait for all the other hire companies to see what they had available. Most wanted over £1000 but NONE required to see our passport as we were UK citizens! Due to the kindness of Enterprise staff we got a car 3 hours later and £150 more than we would have paid SIxt. We are both in our 60’s and had hang about the airport and purchase a meal. It also meant we were late arriving at the cottage we had booked in Perth. I contacted  Marelis Semler at SIxt Customer Service She said I should not have been asked to produce my passport and she would contact the manager and said there would be compensation A few days later she sent me an email stating the manager refused to give me a car because he was not happy with my ID I had lots of ID including my driving licence, credit cards and the membership card that SIXT sent to my home address it seems if they don’t have a car they will just give any reason to cancel your booking We are upset the manager is stating that we lied which is not the case

“Questionable bumper damage and replacement claim”

★☆☆☆☆

written by IanB63 on 05/02/2018

Collected very nice Corsa car from Seville Bus Station and as only needing car for 24hrs decided not to take out the extra insurance as cost was half as much again as the actual car hire. Was given a computer print out of damage items 'list was as long as your arm'. When I expressed my surprise at the long list which seemed to comprise of very minor scratches the very pleasant SIXT girl said all were only superficial so no need to worry. Had a quick inspection of the car and agreed that all appeared to be superficial with nothing majorly obvious to concern me. Drove as far as Palomares in Costa Almeria and stayed overnight with one 'toilet pit stop' on the way and no driving incidents. The next day I delivered the car to SIXT at Alicante airport again with no incidents on the journey. On arrival the SIXT guy inspected the car and advised me there was a deep cut/scratch on the lower part of the bumper which to view you needed to stoop quite low down. There was a cut on the bumper but it was not that bad that the bumper needed replacing and would certainly not affect the performance or hirability of the the car. I was advised by the guy that he would still issue the damage report to head office and that it would be their decision whether to make a claim from me. On receiving an email from SIXT advising that they would be claiming I appealed stating that it was very unlikely that I had done it as my journey from Seville to Alicante was uneventful and that the majority of it was on the motorways.I suggested that carrying out damage inspections was subjective and as the scratch/cut was within a few millimetres of damage mentioned on the Damage Report given to me when I collected the car it was probably the same item. I also suggested that bumpers are designed to take a certain amount of knocks/bumps and do not need replacing every time a scratch or cut appears. I advised however that leaving all this aside I would pay the bill of 270Euro once they had sent me a photograph of a new bumper they claimed desperately neeeded to be fitted to the car. They wrote back ignoring all of these points and advised me that all their inspections are carried out to exactly the same criterion at all there sites throughout the world i.e. they are done exactly the same everywhere with absolutely no subjectivety by their staff. (SIXT staff are obviously not human, they must have been androids - they were very realistic I must say and had me fooled!! I again appealed and questioned how many times previously, SIXT had claimed from their clients a need to replace the bumper. I have to date still not received a photo of the fitted new bumper or paid the claim. I've hired vans/cars many times from SIXT including other hire companies in the UK and have never had a problem so very surprised with this trivial damage claim.

Recently picked up a car from Miami airport , Upon picking up the vehicle , sixt wanted 31$ per day extra for insurance , the already being 485$ for 9 days so that's another 200+ dollar on top so we declined oh no you can't decline the car needs to have insurance , lucky I had an excess insurance waiver,so be weary of this extra charge , secondly toll express is 7.90 per day which you have to have so yet again another cost on top of the rental price , our lovely customer service rep offered us an offer that didn't even exsist that could have cost us nearly 400$ if we hadn't rung sixt to confirm! he said that it was 5$ registration fee and then pay by plate! not true so then on signing and leaving my daughter realised once we was in the car the amount was too much , we had been charged an extra day without being told this was because we picked up the car 4 hours early! so I ended up paying 633$ for my car for 9 days ! so 200 dollar more than the reservstion price! thanks sixt , so I emailed to take up all my issues ! and the response I got was disgraceful! for such a large company , they said basically thanks but no thanks so please please please DO NOT MAKE A MISTAKE LIKE I DID NEVER USE SIXT , use Alamo or budget always great service .

“Worst car rental company EVER!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by irishprepper on 26/12/2017

I reserved the car on line but when flight landed they didn't have the car and told me I either had to pay more to upgrade to another car or take the suv they had. The suv got 21mpg and the car got 36mpg. When I ask just to cancel and refund my money they said they don't refund if you reserve on line. They charged me almost $100 extra so my spouse could drive the car even though I had a $50,000 insurance policy on the car. I call customer service 5 or 6 times in 3 days and no one has ever returned my call. I ask to exchange the car in our destination city but they had no other agencies. After paying and signing the receipt for the suv I was informed it was a damaged vehicle. When we brought the suv back it was a hair under full and they charged us for 5 gallons of gas at $8.99 per gallon. Very rude. There are many other car rental companies that are in multiple cities and very willing to work with you to make you happy. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM!!!

“RUN! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Maher460 on 16/11/2017

Long story short. Didn't have the car I reserved so gave me another until what I reserved was ready. 11pm that night called and I switched out. Picked up in a dark garage and drove to hotel Next morning I saw two tires had bubbles on them. When I called to report, said I was responsible even though I HAD ASKED FOR FULL COVERAGE IN CASE ANYTHING happened. It covers the car but not the tires. Separate coverage for that. Never told that. Manager gave me a discount and a coupon and said was probably already there. Now billed over$1000.00 for two new tires. All the headquarters will keep saying is I should have read the contract better. At the counter they hurry you through. My fault for not spending an hour reading the entire contract. Have rented cars for over 30 years and NEVER had a problem with anyone else before. FYI they charge inflated prices for parts and $170n admin. fee.

“False advertising ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AddisonMalone on 11/11/2017

I reserved a car online 2 weeks in advance to ensure we had the car that we required. I wanted something luxurious. On the sixt web site they advertised luxurious card so on this basis made my reservation. We turned up at 9am near Luton airport but the office was locked. We waited nearly 30 mins for a sixt worker to arrive telling us that his colleague called in sick so has to manage the office on his own. We were then given a mini clubman. When I made the reservation it stated a Mercedes a class, BMW 1, Audi a1 or similar. So to be given a mini I was not a happy bunny. I was told that there were no other cars available but if I wanted a volvo then I would have to pay an additional £80. I was so unhappy with the service. I would never use sixt again and would never recommend this company.

“Awful company, Per your terms and conditions: "We may...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ljforsyth2000 on 18/10/2017

Awful company, Per your terms and conditions: "We may require a security deposit/approval on your payment card. The amount of the deposit may vary depending on the type of the booking, vehicle category or the method of payment." No where do you list (that I can find)how much of a deposit you require for the vehicle category. There for you do not allow the consumer to make an educated, informed decision about what car they would want to rent based on additional monies you may require. Also, this information was not listed on the reservation confirmation paperwork that I printed it. Nor was it made clear that someone would be phoning me to ask for my credit card and telling me the amount and insisting that it paid right then and there. 48 hours before I'm due to be on the flight. Unacceptable. For those reading. The amount that they phoned me totally out of the blue for - $7500.00 Thats the deposit they require. Yes I understand its a hold on my cc.. but thats extreme. Why don't I see other rental companies do this? I rented a Mercedes the last time I was in England.. Hertz didn't require this hold on my CC. I cancelled this rental and spoke to my CC company so that I can get ALL of my money back including the cancellation charge. I wouldn't have booked this if the other charges would have been made clear.. so I don't expect to have to pay the cancellation charges either. I will never rent from this company. I suggest you folks pay attention.

“Beware Petrol Scheme - PHOTOGRAPH THE GUAGE !! or else”

★☆☆☆☆

written by A.Binfield on 19/09/2017

Had a uneventful 2 week car hire from Belfast International airport. Unfortuneatly a week after returning my account was debited without warning for £14.59. An email was sent to Sixt asking for an explanation. Sixt didn't even have the courtesy to reply !!! A subsequent phone call confirmed the money was for an alledged petrol 'shortage' I was offered NO PROOF of the shortage. Obviously I had no proof to the contrary On returning the car, it was fully checked by the rep both inside and out, including turning on the ignition to check mileage and petrol. The rep did not highlight any faults or discrepencies, I duly signed the hand held device assuming the car had been returned exactly as received,NO RECEIPT was given ?? I was very conscious of the petrol guage and I made every effort that I returned with the correct amount "just under 3/4" as highlighted by the agent on collection. If I had come up a bit short why would it not be mentioned at the time I advise everyone to take a photo of the guage on collection, Sixt deliberately supply the cars with varying amounts of petrol instead of a full tank to give them every opportunity to take money for overpriced petrol. The amount I was charged would have filled the tank.!!!! Fortunately the amount was not massive but times that by a few hundred customers.........

“gave our car away”

★☆☆☆☆

written by TrampoliningFly on 14/08/2017

Arrived with paperwork. Paperwork stated 2 hours "Grace Period" All paid and one hour late due to flight delays. Spent 15 mins in a queue to be told our car was given to someone else as it had now passed one hour even though it said 2 hours on Expedia/Sixt paperwork. They did not give a monkeys. Only after I went back to see what other days they had they then informed me I could take a car but had to wait two hours. With 2 children in tow and no way other alternatives, we waited. The car offered had scratches all over it and was not logged in the paperwork, therefore if we had not walked all the way back to inform them, we would have probably been charged. I complained to the Company in the two hours I had to sit and entertain 2 children to be told one hour is their policy (even though proof of 2 hours was sent to me on booking and paying). Even if it was 1 hour on our paperwork and I was 15 mins late, should a car Company give away anothers car due to 15 mins, or at least check their own queues to see if we are waiting before passing on!?? Really poor service from the desk too, he did not care a bit. Never use these people again

“Stick with the larger companies”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Hexcell on 04/07/2017

Prepaid 14 day rental on the sixt website, arrived two days late from flight cancellation. Here is my experience thus far; 1. Had to give an additional deposit before taking car. 2. Was required to purchase comprehensive insurance or provide proof of 99999. Literally even though the agreement plainly states hat it is optional. 3. Car and class was not available so they substituted in a different class, worse. 4. Car had long list of previous damage on receipt yet I found more. 5. If you cancel or amend dates they charge a huge amount. 6. Started car and display indicated that the oil needs changing, employee fixed the problem by resetting the display instead of doing maintenance. You judge, I think they are shady and would recommend sticking with larger legitimate companies as I will likely return to and add this to the to good to e true, should have studied the reviews closer experiences.

“Avoid at all cost”

written by ronthewelder on 01/03/2017

Booked a car through Rentalcars.com for a week at Faro airport. Paid online in the UK for 1 week hire and extra insurance, £137.00. On collecting the car, I was told what I paid was a deposit to the 'broker', and there were extra charges. After about 40 minutes trying to get to the bottom of what was happening (hot, tired, raining, cases and wife waiting outside office) I signed the paper and collected the car... after reading the hire papers on my return it transpires I'd bought "Super Top Cover', 'Personal Accident Cover', 'Tyre and Glass protection', and theyd changed my booking from me returning it full to them filling it for me (they charge for fuel and their time) What I thought was a weeks hire for £137 added an extra £327 to the bill, deducted automatically from my Barclaycard, and as Id obviously signed this paper (stupid me) no one could help me. They are deceitful, purposely obstructive and liars. I cant believe that a company can do business like this. AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE

“Sixt car hire- Awful customer service!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AmiahHuber on 24/12/2016

I booked a 7 seater car from Sixt car hire, a Ford galaxy, to hire for this weekend as we are travelling to the Lake District for Christmas. We booked the car in October and paid in full. Yesterday (21st) we received a phone call to say the car wasn't available anymore as they had double booked them and they can only offer us a mini van! We told them that the van wasn't suitable for us and we need something similar to the Ford galaxy which we had hired and they argued that as it's a busy time of year they had nothing available! Disgusting considering this was booked in October!! After a day of worry and stress about how we would be able to go on our weekend away, we asked for our money back in which we were told we'd have to pay for the first 3 days of the booking, even though the fault was completely in their hands. Needless to say we are not paying this, we are seeking legal advice! We managed to book a car with Enterprise yesterday evening, they have been fantastic but sixt have been beyond atrocious, Everyone Avoid this company at all costs!

They are definitely a car rental company, you pick your rental car up from their SIXT depot/office, and I have always been able to select the exact vehicle I wanted.

Sixt are the actual car hire company and just for your information, I had a pleasant and problem free experience with them.
