“Flight Cancellation”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Jones198 on 28/05/2019

My WestJet flight was cancelled and was given terrible options all of which was a cost to me including adding 7 hours to my flight arriving well after midnight. After refusing to accept those options we were given 2 seats at different ends of the plane. I was constantly reminded that I had an economy ticket which was in itself degrading and apparently of no importance to them. I will NOT FLY WITH THEM AGAIN. There are better options

“Worst transatlantic flight ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Carlosn455 on 20/10/2018

This was our first trip to Canada, to attend our friend's wedding. We had no preconceptions of WestJet prior to travelling but have been flying a lot between the UK and the US and the UK and Mexico so no strangers to transatlantic flights. We were supposed to arrive in Toronto in the late afternoon, in plenty of time to have dinner with our friends (who live an hour away from Toronto) before the wedding. We went to bed on the Thursday night, fairly early as we were meant to get up early on the Friday. When we woke up on the Friday we found 3 emails saying that our flight was delayed by 4 hours. We got to Gatwick and a lovely member of ground staff gave us food vouchers and explained that we may be entitled to compensation as our flight had been delayed by so many hours. There were quite a few things we did not expect about the flight. 1) We did not expect to have no in-flight entertainment (the only way was to either download the app and watch films on phone or tablet or pay $10 each for a tablet). 2) We did not expect to have to pay for food, only the pretzels and cookies are free and when they give you a drink they don't even give you the whole can. We arrived in Toronto so late that we barely managed to see our friends beforee going to bed as we had a long day ahead the following day. On the return journey to London, again, we were delayed by 2 hours as we were already on the plane. One of the air hostesses had the cheek to tell my husband to remove his hat and earphones presumably because he wouldn't hear the safety briefing. Given that we were stuck on the tarmac and he just wanted to sleep in the meantime, that was a bit rich. By contrast, a guy seated in a seat near us was an off duty crew member and they couldn't have been nicer to him. They told him to just holler if he wanted more food or drink. He was carrying 4 pieces of hand luggage while they asked customers to check their hand luggage in the cargo! All in all a very bad experience that we hope never to repeat. I emailed them to complain and their answer was that it was all out of their control, both times they blamed medical emergencies. They also blamed the poor weather in Canada and said that, basically, that's what customers bought travel insurance for, brcause as far as they are concerned, they are blameless. Absolute joke!

“Horrible experience. Less than poor customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by GillesD on 20/09/2018

We flew with WestJet from San Jose to Toronto on September 8th. We were supposed to land at 8:30pm to catch our connecting flight to Montreal at 10pm. Unfortunately the flight from San Jose was delayed. We were stuck on the aircraft from 2 hours and half and no snacks nor refreshments were offered to us. We landed in Toronto at 10:30pm and missed our connecting flight. They rebooked us to the 6:30am flight on the next day. We learned in the morning that this flight got also cancelled and we took off at 7:45am after a 3 hours night sleep. We basically lost a day and still had to pay for the night on Montreal. They didn't offer any compensation whatsoever. We also discovered the day after that the Westin they booked for us charged us 114.11 USD. The hotel fee was eventually put back to the card but I find it unacceptable that the hotel charged our card in the first place. They gave us vouchers for dinner and breakfast. The vouchers however were way too cheap. What can 30 CAD for two people get you as the Westin?? The breakfast voucher was anyway pretty much useless as we had to checkout at 4 to take our (cancelled) 6:30am flight before breakfast is served. Reaching WestJest customer service is impossible. They don't reply to email, they only have a Facebook bot that is way too dumb to be of any use. Will definitely never fly WestJest again.

“Baggage Damaged and Denial of Refund”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Cannonrn139 on 09/11/2017

On 1 October 2017, my husband and I flew from Calgary to Los Angeles. We were shocked to see that both sides of our luggage handles were damaged but unable to stop for reporting as we had to follow the tour guide. We started the land tour from there till we left Los Angeles on 9 October 2017. I sent an email to Westjet but was denied for the claim. The staff replied that I should report the damage at the airport or to write in within 7 days. At that time I was still travelling via tour and there was no phone and internet available. We left for Singapore after the tour in Canada and Eastern USA for 3 weeks and were very exhausted. We experienced jetlag too. After that, we went back to work. There was no understanding and sympathy at all! Disappointed Travellers from Singapore

“WESTJET Code Share with Delta airlines”

★☆☆☆☆

written by robmcare on 05/11/2017

Connecting in Toronto Airport from Delta but could not find the next flight which was on WESTJET not DELTA (codeshare) Walking with a cane had to walk "MILES" to another terminal to find the gate at the longest point. Flight was 5 hrs with no in-flight entertainment or meal service. Never again would fly them again. In Vancouver the luggage took over 1hr. to arrive and it was damaged. Nothing they could do since we were NOT spending at least week in VANCOUVER>

“How about moving into this century!!!”

written by Morrisonqm178 on 30/05/2017

So I bought a priority ticket, that is west jest's version of first class, the ticket kiosk doesn't print priority on your ticket. You have to go and track someone down, they have to look around for a big red stamp, then stamp your boarding pass. What is the purpose of the kiosk? We actually have computers tha will print whatever you type into them, maybe you could actually find a programmer who could print that on the boarding pass. What a waste of everyone's time! Ridiciolus, I believe Bosnian Airlines can probably print you a correct boarding pass! Get on the plane. "This is a new plane, there is no wifi". Really, on a new plane? Did you get a computer to run the plane, maybe order one with wifi next time. Budget airline, not really, budget services at a high price. Like going back it time. I expected we would all have to stick our feet through the floor and run like the Flintstones to take off.

“Not cheap and not cheerful”

★☆☆☆☆

written by blueseypauline on 11/01/2017

It seems the Canadians have a very positive opinion of this airline. I personally thought Westjet was very poor value money. When booking, we were not aware there was no meal, no entertainment and no checked baggage options. We could have gotten cheaper flights that included all of those . Of course, everything is available for a fee. But they do not accept cash. Only credit cards. And being a Canadian company, anything but a Canadian credit card will incur an exchange rate charge. The flight out was an hour late taking off because they couldn't figure out what to do with all the cabin bags. Each passenger is allowed two pieces of carry on luggage and to avoid the checked baggage charge, many of them had pushed the boundaries of 'cabin bag size'. It didn't occur to anyone that with the flight full, they would inevitably run out of storage space. I definitely would not recommend this airline and wont be flying with them again. A huge disappointment.

My wife and I have just flown to Winnipeg with you and have just returned home after a three weeks stay. Both journeys were excellent. All the crew were helpful and polite and we are hoping that you will continue flying from London Gatwick to Winnipeg. The plane was on time for both journeys and we will be definitely use your airline in future

“Delays, money loss and no support”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Lillianan67 on 06/07/2016

On the way to Cancun we had a passenger behind us who was placed in Plus section free of charge as the flight was oversold. This passenger was kicking us in the backs and swearing for four hours. WestJet flight attendants did not do anything. Flight back was delayed. Despite we paid for Plus package no priority check-in (as in the agreement) was provided in Montreal or Cancun. Food was not fresh with bad smell. Looked dangerous and we did not eat. When we pointed to it to flight attendant she just took it from us with no explanations or replacement. TV did not work on either flights. We were waiting for luggage for more than an hour. WestJet is in partnership with BDTravel company that hides the fact that they do not provide any travel services and in fact a re-seller. As a result, we experiences extremely bad service and money loss. WestJet guaranteed to protect us in this case but did nothing. We are filing complaint to BBB.

“Wonderful customer service so helpful and thoughtful ”

written by RaziaFrench on 08/04/2016

I just want to share my wonderful experience with every one about west jet customers service in Vancouver airport. Last week I had a flight from Abbotsford to Calgary The taxi drivers dropped us off in the wrong airport. We had no way to make it to the Abbotsford airport in time for our flight. That was the time that the wonderful west jet representatives come true for us and change our departure airport from Abbotsford to Vancouver airport . Which that was so amazing especially I was traveling with my daughter that just had removed her wisdom teeth and she was experiencing a lot of pins at the time of our trip. We did not get any extra money fo the transfer of the airports. Also she was not aware of my daughter conditions and also definitely we did not request any of it either. She was so professional and good at her job. So thank you to in amazing service .

“Additional Charges”

★★★★☆

written by AllanWatt on 05/03/2016

Hello; I just returned from 4 Westjet flights, Victoria - Calgary & Calgary to Houston. It blew my mind when the announcement for headphones are being charged by Westjet. My connecting flight from Houston to Merida with United they were NO CHARGE! With the savings of jet fuel due to the current oil barrel costs, Westjet profits must be better than ever! To bad I'm not a share holder! The staff in general were very courteous and accommidating! Great flight times was a blessing! So overall that's my positive and only 1 negative! Keep creating more cities you fly to! Thanks for this web sight! Regards

“Appalling service”

★★☆☆☆

written by LelaG on 17/01/2016

I reserved a round trip from Toronto, ON to Sarasota, FL, January 2016. I checked in a bicycle, according to their rules. The bicycle never arrived at destination. They delivered the bicycle 3 days later. Many passengers did not get their luggage either. The staff at Sarasota airport are untrained and unqualified to process the claim. They learn on the job, taking 50 minutes by the clock, to read and understand the company's rules and regulations. I will not fly with this airline again.

“Price Drop Guarantee - Careful! It's Not What it Seems”

★★★★☆

written by allendick on 23/10/2015

"Book the flight you want, and if the price drops after you book, right up until 2 hours before you fly, we'll give you back the difference in WestJet dollars. No games, just peace of mind. That's our Price Drop Guarantee." is the advertised claim, and I believed it. I fly Westjet often, and have been happy with the flights, no problem there, but it so happened that I recently booked a flight for myself, my daughter and her two kids. I paid for all of us and was not worried about waiting for the best price since I had read the guarantee. "No games, just peace of mind?", right? Silly me, I took that claim at face value. The devil is in the details and of course I did not know the details until I set out to fill out a claim and found that promise was hollow. Two days after reserving the flights I happened to check the prices and saw I was eligible for the Westjet Price Drop Guarantee, so I set out to claim the difference. That is when I learned that although I paid all the fares and do not routinely fly with this group, the guarantee only applies to their fares if they each, including children have a Westjet ID -- and then the fare credit goes for each of them, even though they did not pay their own fares -- not to me. Moreover, the credits expire in six months. Some peace of mind! Maybe this makes some kind of sense to Westjet, but I feel ripped off.

“Nude Movie Choices ”

★★★☆☆

written by Vanessasabo on 06/10/2015

I have always enjoyed flying with West Jet mostly because I enjoy pleasant people who seem to enjoy their job! My HUGE COMPLAINT is that at no time should nudity be part of anyone's "Movie Veiwing Pleasure" Is it just me? There is NO WAY to stop my children from seeing the neighbours screens! Gross! And I don't want to watch nudity with a plane full of strangers! It's really disturbing and unnecessary for these movies to be options! There is zero reasons why West Jet can't choose movies with appropriate themes for everyone traveling! Please Please Please choose movies with no nudity! And no plane crashes would also be a good idea! ;) Just Saying! Thanks

“What happened to WestJet”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Frustratedflier on 14/07/2015

Prior to WestJet coming on the scene Canadians were basically saddled with two airlines. They were expensive and provided limited choice. Our beloved government at the time lauded more completion as to providing better service and prices, as we all did. Well, around 20 years ago along came a bunch of cheap and cheerful airlines, WestJet being one of them. Good service, great scheduling, friendly staff...a real pleasure to fly. Fast forward 20 years and now you have only two airlines...again, expensive and providing little choice. Where is our beloved government today...not a peep on the deterioration of air service provided Canadians. When you fly now you are at the mercy of the airlines. I booked with WestJet several months ago and picked flights that matched my time and convenience of service I booked a flight from Calgary to Thunder Bay with a mandatory stop in Winnipeg and only about a 30 minute stop between flights. Well, after three (3) flight changes I am now stranded in the airport, both directions for over 4 hours. I will now have to miss an appointment at my destination unless of coarse, I pay up for change...not going to happen. When booking with WestJet you may as well book standby because that is how they treat you. I contracted with WestJet for a flight at a specific time on a specific date. If I was to change my mind on the date or time to fly they charge me. They make changes with impunity. The skies over Canada needs to be opened to more competition not the b.s. the government hands out on protecting Canadian interests. It is time for change. We need more competition and we need it now. I don't think Canadians should or need to wait another 20 years for a change in the airline industry. WestJet now sucks!!!!!!

“Contrary to claims, customers do NOT come first....”

★★★☆☆

written by Nicole1956 on 15/05/2015

Canadian Westjet Airline was born over 10 years ago as a low-cost alternative and competing entity to the government-supported Air Canada. It was refreshing and forward-looking for the first 5 or so years, and every customer was treated as a vip. However, Westjet Airlines now leads the way in add-on charges to its clients, to the point where Air Canada actually follows its lead in levering add-on charges, with Westjet all the while pretending that its fares are lower. I have no doubt that this is due to the company offering shares to every one of its employees as a recompense for keeping unions at bay. I have no comment as far as safety, because Westjet's record appears to be on par with other airlines. With regard to staff attitude, it is somewhat superior to other airlines, as every shareholder employee has a vested interest in making the customer experience a pleasant one. Company profits benefit every employee's take-home pay. Its on-time arrival and departure rating is poor. Westjet's appreciation of clients' needs is poor, as it makes more effort to bend to the left-wing norms than to the right-wing ones, case in point being the allowance of dogs and cats on its flights, without concern for those who may be allergic to such animals, physiologically or mentally. The secondary point being in how the crew does not stick to the industry's limitations for carry-on luggage. The third point worth mentioning is how the obese passengers are allowed to spill into the space of others sharing a row, with those who object made to feel guilty for expecting to have full use of their extremely limited space. Westjet Airlines introduced itself as a competitive alternative to the unionized and my-job-is-safe-regardless-of-my-service employees of Air Canada, but it is now high time for Westjet and Air Canada to be faced with viable new competition in the skies.

“Useless Pilot ”

★★★☆☆

written by Herndonaf59 on 06/05/2015

On a return flight from Barbados we flew at 40,000 feet, low air pressure in cabin, felt sick most of the way, low airspeed, added an extra hour to the flight, on landing pilot hit the runway fairly hard, on final was going left and right in excess of 45 degrees. Think they aren't trying to save money and charge more. Their check in software is useless, can't book a seat on economy fares till 24 hours before flight takeoff times, and then they charge twice for initial booking fee then another 40 bucks for an upgrade seat.

“Great Customer Service”

★★★★☆

written by Snugglz on 05/04/2015

My husband and I were flying from Kitchener to Calgary in March 2015. Flight was cancelled March 3rd due to freezing rain. Now my husband is sick man, suffering lung cancer trying to make it home to see his family. If anyone knows the Kitchener airport is out in " No where". Needless to say our daughter drove us there and left due to the weather. Feeling lost, frustrated and stressed due to the flight being cancelled, I didn't know what to do. My main concern is my husband. Westjet staff did " everything" they humanly could to find us accommodations, re- book our flight, transportation to and from the hotel. We truly felt blessed that night. Thank you so much WestJet, will never be forgotten!!!

Just another f'd up airline. Aircraft are old featureless and cramped. Late is becoming the norm and their so called bright and bubbly staff have become less than spirited. Yup they started as a model after southwest and faded to the former lazy beaucratical government funded airline we have here in Canadda. Actually I take that back somewhat, at least air canada has maintained it's fleet with updated cabins and services. Ever tried to watch a movie on the 4 inch screen? Oh that will be one swipe of your credit card please. We need a third competitor in this country the duopoly just keeps sucking the life out of its passengers even in times where fuel costs are way down. Shame shame westjet. I write this sitting in the yyz airport waiting for a flight that is 2 hours delayed. again! I am never booking another vacation with you again. I will fly a U.S. airline before I experience this cramped featureless experience again.

My son, his girlfriend and his cousin are currently flying Westjet from Ottawa to Winnipeg today. There were engine problems and so they diverted to Thunder Bay. Were told they had to call somebody to do repairs but eventually a new plane was called for. They left Ottawa around 4:40 expecting to arrive in Winnipeg about 6:30. They are now just boarding the plane to finally take off again for Winnipeg. They are students, so this was a big expense to go to Winnipeg for a wedding. Westjet offered no meals, credits or any kind of partial refund for delaying their customers. This was not an inadvertent delay related to weather but actually due to the inoperability of the airplane. There should be some sort of compensation. Can anyone advise us?
