“Why the trickery”

I’m a fool. I see a damart ad or leaflet showing very good prices on offer. Each time it is out of stock. If they do have it the price is the full price even though if it’s a booklet the reduced price is shown. I am determined not to be taken in by this advertising any more. I am going to send back to them all their junk mail in future. No chance of any recommendation from me. Everyone should avoid them at all cost.

“AWFUL SERVICE - DAMART”

Trying to make a payment online was a nightmare. Eventually had to phone Customer Services which cost me over £3. They promised the matter would be sorted out and I should not have a problem in future. Second payment was exactly the same, nothing came up under Personal Account online even though they had emailed me saying my statement was ready for review so I probably have another £3 added to my phone bill. Cancelled account. Really not worth the aggravation.

“POOR SERVICE DAMART NOT INTERESTED I KEEPING CUSTOMERS”

CALLED DAMART CUSTOMER SERVICE CHASING MY FIRST (AND LAST) ORDER IT STATED NO ORDERS OPEN IN SYSTEM. DAMART TOOK THE SUM OF £40.19 FROM OUR ACCOUNT WHEN I PLACED THE ORDER, ON 29 APRIL HOWEVER, IT DID NOT SHOW GOODS OUT OF STOCK AS I WOULD NOT HAVE PLACED THE ORDER FOR MY HOLIDAY TRIP NEXT SATURDAY IF THIS WAS SHOWN WHEN PLACING THE ORDER!!!!! SO MONEY TAKEN PRIOR TO SHIPPING. NO INFO FROM DAMART REFERENCE DELAYED ORDER. ON CONTACTING CUSTOMER SERVICE I WAS INFORMED THAT ALL GOODS WERE OUT OF STOCK AND NO INFORMATION AS TO WHEN THESE WOULD BE AVAILABLE. YOUR EMPLOYEE ALSO STATED THAT DAMART DOES NOT TAKE MONEY UNTIL GOODS SHIPPED WELL THEY DID!!!! THIS I BELIEVE IS IN FACT ILLEGAL!!. AS THE GOODS WILL NOT ARRIVE IN TIME I CANCELLED THE ORDER AND DEMANDED A REFUND ONLY TO BE TOLD THIS WILL TAKE 10 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO THEY CAN TAKE FUNDS ILLEGALLY FROM MY ACCOUNT WITHIN A FEW HOURS BUT IT TAKES 10 DAYS TO REFUND IT. “THE WORST COMPANY!”

I ordered clothing, a number of items in different sizes. Never did I realise that taking it back to the post office was not free of charge. So when I was told it would be £12 to return the goods I was amazed. I rang for them to come and collect and it was still £3.99! If that's not bad enough, to PLACE THE ORDER on the phone cost me £4.02! Absolutely abysmal service from their "Customer CARE". Never ever again - I had never heard of them until they fell out of Weekend Magazine in the Daily Mail - what a shame I found them! If I had know they charge like this, I would never have ordered with them. Luckily I stopped a colleague of mine from ordering before she made the same mistake.

“DON'T USE THEIR 0871 PHONE NUMBER.”

The Damart order line number 0871  is a premium rate number costing 10p a minute. The call centre staff deliberately take their time to deal with calls usually ensuring that the average time to place even a simple order is around 6 - 10 minutes or 60p to £1 in call charges. An easy & much cheaper way around this is to dial the head office number of 01274 xxx, this is a normal, non premium rate number, then ask for customer services you will get transferred to the order staff & then place the order.

“terrible service and delivery”

Ordered eventually but they had mixed up my email address and ordering system did not tell me I was using 'wrong' email. Take days to answer queries - really days -and the answers do not cover all you have asked. Their individual computer systems do not appear to be linked. After sending about 12 emails they eventually told me (to the wrong email) they had despatched the order but not by which courier or when expected delivery was. I sent umpteen emails again, only to get an email this morning to say it was despatched by HERMES with a link to the tracking system but no number the HERMES system would accept to track, so useless and partial information again. Just opened my front door to find a parcel by my doormat and courier had ignored instruction to knock three times (full colour notice in very large print) and just dumped the parcel, which could easily have been stolen. Also, anyone seeing it might be encouraged to break in as it appears nobody in, whereas I was and am. DAMART are frankly dangerous to use - I have kept the two items even though one is the wrong colour as I am too intimidated to go through a returns process. My advise - do not use computer ordering with Damart if you expect efficient, quick, and 'distance ordering legislation compliant service' from them on line. They simply do not do it.

“DISGUSTING SERVICE”

i wanted three items in a hurry. I was told that because it was my first order with them, they would not offer express delivery. Who made up THAT stupid rule? My credit card is the same as if I'd ordered in the past. I would NEVER EVER buy from Damart, NEVER recommend them, and have torn up their advertisement in disgust. USELESS COMPANY.

“Done like toast!”

I have used Damart products for almost 30 years and been pleased with the products. However, when I wanted to place my order today, the website marked up items that were suppose to be on sale! It refused to let me place my order even at the higher price and when I tried to call them the phone number did not work either! I'm done with you Damart! Sincerely, Disgusted!

“Customer service is a joke.”

As unable to access my account via net I ordered a jacket from Damart. by telephone 8th Feb. money taken from my bank 9th Feb. also couldn't place order by net as although advertised their website did not recognise part number. Paid 0871 10per minute to order by phone. The jacket ordered did not appear on my account. Emailed twice on status of order..no reply. Jacket appeared via Hermes 12th Feb. Poor quality..Broken zip..size purchased 14-16. but surprisingly too small. Returned within 15 minutes of receipt via Hermes. Emailed explaining but once again 1 week later still no reply. Rang 0871 to be told it takes 14 days for returns to appear on their system. Ring back in a weeks time. If I ever go near this company again would someone shoot me PLEASE... I await with interest the refund!

You i don't know why I keep bothering with damart but I do, silly me. You forget your password and they tell you that they have sent you an email with a new one. But they fail to do this. Then you contact them and they don't respond. Very poor customer service.

“Service absolutely disgraceful”

I requested a refund in May -still waiting. Received yet another letter after 4phone calls over two months being told cheque processed with 10 days before receipt each time. Letter now says cheque currently being processed 28 days before receipt. If i do not receive this I will go to trading standards I will never deal with them again.

ordered and paid for goods last September for holiday,three weeks in advance ,they did not arrive so had to dash round town at last minute,did get refunded ok after two phone calls,thought perhaps that was a one off and ordered some shoes three weeks ago for this weekend but they have not arrived.......

“Damart mailings and prize draws”

For all people who like me made a big mistake ordering from a Damart catalogue and then being inundated with constant mailings (sometimes 2 a week) ttelling me I was in line for a big prize. After many attempts to get Damart to cease sending me these mailings including writing to the managing director to take my name off the mailing list, I have finally been successful. HOW? I have been posting all the mailings with a label stating "Return to sender not wanted" which has resulted in a letter from Damart confirming they will remove my name from their mailings list. It has taken nearly 2 years to stop these mailings! I don't believe these prize draws are genuine but are a marketing ploy to encourage people to keep ordering goods from their catalogues. The problem is that they prey on elderly people who are convinced they are a winner and frightened of missing out if they don't order. SO IF YOU WANT TO STOP THIS JUST DO AS I DID AND PUT THEM STRAIGHT BACK INTO THE POST. BY DOING THIS DAMART WILL STOP SIMPLY BECAUSE IT WILL BE COSTING THEM MONEY!

I have just realised this is happening to my grandmother who thought she won £51.000 if she ordered within a time limits. She also thinks that the clothing that arrives is a prize, which clearly its not cause it shows in her statement.....

My grandmother is 90 yrs old and ordered £1000's worth of goods as she believed she was in with a good chance of winning £50000 and spent all her savings in doing so, after contacting damart myself and explained her age and she had spent all her savings they agreed that I could return as many items that were still in their packaging, I did this and the items totalled to around £2000 after waiting 14 days I contacted damart as the money had not been credited to my grandmothers account and was informed they had not received all the returns and only credited her account with £300 as I explained I kept a copy of all returns they took all return numbers over the phone and correctly credited her account for 1 day as the next day they refused to refund the money as they claim I have to proof I returned all the items even though I have slips from the gentleman that collected the parcels, so now my grandmother is out of picked big time and this has caused her a great deal of stress

“Ripping off elderly people”

Don't let any elderly person order from this company. Once they have ordered something the person is bombarded with advertising saying they have been entered in prize draws etc etc providing they place another order.It's a complete lie and they are ripping off elderly people. Disgusted,

Couldn't agree more - I am currently being harassed by Damart despite telling them my mother has days to live with terminal cancer. She is unconscious and attached to oxygen and these idiots refusee to stop calling until she speaks to them or writes them a letter. I couldn't be more incensed and as a freelance journalist, I WILL be writing an article on this subject.

It's already happened to my grandmother she has ordered £1000's in an attempt to win £50000, my grandmother is 90 yrs old and didn't understand it was a trick. When contacting damart they agreed to allow me to send back as much of the goods that are still in the pacaging I've done this and sent back over £2000 of goods but strangely most of the parcels were lost and her account only credited with £300 when I explained to customer services they said if I have a copy of all items I could give them the details over the phone and the matter would be delt with, after over an hr on the phone giving all the catalog numbers my grandmothers account was credited and she was to receive £1300 back after paying off outstanding balance in her account but the next day they removed all the information I had given and only credited her account with £300 and contacted her telling her she owes them £200 she is devastated and has had sleepless nights over this

Totally agree. I have been trying to stop their marketing correspondences for ages. Emails and letter-post, both so often that I have become aware of how desperate it all looks. I will keep telling them, but it may be a job for life, I'm afraid.

“Poor quality and sizing”

I order from Damart for the first time ever. It was for 2 corduroy skirts offered on sale at £17.50 each quite reasonable prices, but the quality was poor but most of all the sizing was very small. I normally wear a size 16 M&S skirts and as they were beginning to feel a bit tight I ordered size 18. I could hardly fasten the button and they would have been too uncomfortable to wear. I have just returned them today and hope that I get a full refund. I am somewhat concerned by some of the reviews on this site which talk of poor service in this respect. I will review again when (and if !!) I get the refund. If the had said their sizings were on the small side this might have helped and if they had said the corduroy was thin.

“Good products - shockingly bad service”

I had most of the poor experiences outlined in the previous reviews, plus fell foul of the misleading Damart web site that lured me involuntarily into opening a personal account which I never wanted, while exploring the payment options and then spontaneously generated an order that I was not ready to place, though fortunately for something that I was interested in. 'Customer Services' seemed unwilling or unable to comprehend the issues that I raised about the operation of the web site, that another company might have taken as constructive feedback. But it did not stop there. I waited and waited for my gloves, eventually E-mailing the company to find that they had been delivered a couple of weeks previously while I was out by the courier 'Hermes', somewhat ambiguously 'to my letter box', whatever that means. In the event, there was a happy ending - the gloves were handed to me by a neighbour in a torn and rain damaged package. I am not sure that my nerves will stand this eccentric mode of delivery in the future, especially as Damart were sending me demands for payment before they had confirmed that I had actually received the gloves. Though I have sworn by Damart products for 20 years, I may just settle for tried and tested Amazon in the future, as there is no evidence that Damart have shown interest in taking on board any of the previous feedback to improve their service.

“Tatty, condescending, over-egged garbage. Leave well alone”

Looks like the Reader's Digest has been reborn with this lot. They must think we are a bunch of idiots the way they 'pitch' their products and "prize" offers - Tax Exemtion Certificate/ The Damart Finance Department/Privilege Code/ Authorised by..... Approved by.../Waive Request/Official Correspondence. Stupid, childish 'stamps' saying Board of Directors and Damart Prize Department 'Approved'. Secure Confirmation Docket. What utter crud. Mind you, this DAMARTEX UK Ltd (trading as DAMART) have £3 million cash in the bank and have assests of £45 million, so their constant load of irritating smoke and mirrors advertising makes money from some quarters! The person (who signs all the letters) holds 7 current appointment, has resigned from 9 companies and held appointments at 12 dissolved companies. Why he adds his signature to such tripe is beyond me (no, on second thoughts it's all to do with money). Had I known the utter flood of advertising rubbish that drops through my letter box after buying one thing, I would have never bought from them - they cling like leaches with their constant highly irritating mailings.

Absolutely agree with all that has been said in this review. I made the mistake of ordering from Damart 2 years ago and have been flooded on a weekly basis since then with their mailings. I Googled their managing director, to get his email address and wrote asking to be removed immediately from their mailing list and saying in no uncertain terms that these prize draws were preying on the elderly and vulnerable who truly believe they are one order away from winning huge sums of money. I had a reply saying he was sorry I felt this way and would remove my name from their mailing list. Nothing happened. I am now returning all their mailings straight back to them marked "unsolicited mail" in the hope they will get fed up receiving them back and paying the return postage. There was an interesting article in the Daily Mirror on the 12th December highlighting this problem and that they had been banned from using misleading claims and banning them. All Damart have done is to change their wording but the end result is still the same. It would be nice if some official body could make Damart produce lists of previous winners and prove these prize draws are genuine (some hope). Maybe we should all complain to Trading Standards to get them banned from sending these mailings with their catalogues altogether. God help anyone thinking of buying anything from them. You will rue the day!

“EXCESS ADVERTISING”

Wife bought a top from Damart it was Ok but ever since we have had almost daily Emails and weekly post catalogues trying to persuade us to buy more. Prices are not bargains so we will not buy more nor will we be persuaded to buy by being harassed to do so. BEWARE IF YOU BUY FROM THIS COMPANY WHOSE STYLE SEEMS NOT UNLIKE READERS DIGEST ONES OF OLD WITH THEIR CONSTANT 'BUY NOW' AND 'COMPETITION YOU HAVE WON' STYLE ADVERTISING.

“Wouldn't order again”

I ordered waterproof fur trimmed boots from Damart in a magazine offer for my mother and me size 6,when they came they were very small sized and tight and narrow fitting despite being described as a D fitting and very shallow at the toe.If I'd known they were so small sized I would have ordered larger. My mothers had to be sent back which cost £9! at the post office. I struggled on with mine, the soles were very hard but the shallow depth wouldn't accommodate an insole and despite being described as waterproof, they let in water at the toes. I was very surprised by this as I thought Damart would have been good quality. I have since been bombarded with junk mail from Damart which has taken several attempts to stop. I think their clothes are quite frumpy and not to my taste but I am put off any accessory I might hsve ordered by the thought of the high cost of having to return them.

All reviews I have read have been derogatory of Damart. I too feel the same way. I want them to stop sending me their emails and catalogues. I have repeatedly asked them to stop sending these and still I am getting them. So then, my question is please can you tell me which is the only way to get them to stop sending me their marketing material, both in emails and in the post? I want them to stop sending me their correspondences. What method works to get them to stop doing this? I need to know please. I am getting so annoyed with this unwanted marketing. Thank you in advance.
