Currently worth about 50 pounds, so it's cheap and cool. If you stick in a 1gb MMC card into it , you can hold something around 2 hours of video, 8 hours of mp3 music 5-6 n-gage designed, cool and fun 3D-games, 10-20 Java games, LOADS of photos, some applets (guitar tuner, mathematical graph plotter, image editor, skype) AT ONCE, while still listening to the radio, and calling your friends. What else do you need in your pocket?!

Great review. I was actually very surprised by the high scores here for the N-Gage. I already have a PlayStation 2, X-box 360, Nintendo Wii, the PSP and Nintendo DS, but I am tempted to purchase this gaming device. I don't know what to do!?

Very good phone/game mobile, very much underestimated by the mainstream market, beats some brand new mobiles in the quality of its features

I was crazy on the Nokia N-Gage, because of its amazing features, and I still think they are cool. Whoever likes it for games and mp3s goes ahead and buys it, it has amazing graphics and incredible sound, but the size will eventually annoy you and you will miss a camera on it as much as the infrared (even thought it has blootooth). After a year, when you start getting out of the stage of games, it starts to annoy you. However the graphics are amazing, and it has great features so if you are the kind of person that like downloading stuff get it since it is symbian (smartphone). Not saying against it at all, good job Nokia, you managed to produce something that satisfies kids.

The N-gage is an incredible piece of kit, the battery life is good if you do not use the games and MP3 player, obviously these are high power functions and will drain the battery, I have a spare battery from ebay, which was cheap. Charge time is quick. I have a 1gb mmc card which holds hours of MP3, games and movies, instalable software makes it very powerful, smart movie knocks socks of the standard real player. The symbian 60 operating system is excellent.

The Nokia N-Gage is a very good phone and fills all your needs in a phone (excluding the camera). The size doesn't really matter it will still fit in your pocket and it is lighter then the Nokia 3310.

I got my n-gage about 2 weeks ago and in that period I have had to replace it 3 times. My first one which I bought from Orange and it lasted about 1 and a half weeks and then the radio stopped working so I phoned Orange and got a replacement which was delivered the next day and that one did not work either so I phoned Orange again and I am getting another replacement. The features on this phone are great such as the mp3 player and the radio and the recorder and real one player. All of these features work well(except my radio) this phone gets me lots of attention which is extremely annoying such as when I'm playing Tony Hawks which is very good. I recommend this phone because it is good and I think I got a faulty one. The service at Orange is very good and I would reccomend buying a phone from them.

I saw my friend carrying it and I thought it was really good but now it's just boring. It's got quite a few good stuff but it doesn't even have a camera on it.
Anyway I sold it on ebay for £100 and got a Sagem MYX-6 instead which was a lot better!

OMG - YOU DON'T HAVE TO SIDETALK!!! Now that's out the way, the only thing missing from the Nokia N-Gage mobile phone is a camera really. Brilliant, fast, versatile and amazingly cheap now. Why wouldn't you buy one? You don't have to sidetalk!

“The Nokia N-Gage: Terrific device, useless mobile phone. ”

★★★★☆

written by somethingobscure on 17/06/2004

The Nokia N-Gage: Terrific device, useless mobile phone.

The above might seem a harsh judgement at first, but it is accurate and should not be seen as condemning the N-Gage entirely (I am actually quite happy with mine). As a device for information and entertainment, the N-Gage is superb: It's Symbian software platform offers excellent PDA functionality (very usable through the decent screen and numeric keypad), wireless synchronisation with your PC diary, contact and tasks lists, an excellent MP3 player, radio (with handy loudspeaker), useable (but expensive!) GPRS-based Internet and mail access and the ability to load additional software such as games.

In co-operation with a bluetooth headset, the N-Gage is also very useable as a sort of portable desk phone, however it fails pretty miserably as a mobile. This is partly due to the slightly bulky shape, but mainly the idiotic location of the earpiece on the side of the phone: Apart from looking ridiculous, this is simply very uncomfortable to use.

A mobile phone should (nowadays) always be something you can carry easily in a pocket and pull quickly out to answer a call. The N-Gage fails as this. However, its 'additional' functionality is so useful that it's actually still worth considering as a flexible alternative to a PDA/music-player, particularly if you want to retain the option of built-in telephony and Internet. I now use the N-Gage solely in this function, with a small, simple Nokia 1100 as a 'real' mobile phone, and am actually very happy with the combination. Cautiously recommended, thus.

“I have only had my Nokia N-Gage mobile phone for one...”

★★★★★

written by pauliegreguk on 09/06/2004

I have only had my Nokia N-Gage mobile phone for one day, but I am already a convert! I thought that there may be a downside to having this phone, becasue there was so much in it's favour, but I was wrong. The only minus point I can think of is the alarm clock doesn't make a noise, it just vibrates. But that's not a major problem.

I had a Nokia 8310 before, compared to the N-Gage that was so old fashioned, it makes you wonder how you ever managed with it!

Now I look forward to those journeys on the tram or bus just so I can play Sonic or the Sims!

In my opinion, this is the best phone I have ever owned.

“I fell in love with this Nokia N-Gage mobile phone...”

★★☆☆☆

written by Enun on 29/05/2004

I fell in love with this Nokia N-Gage mobile phone the minute I saw it. I was attracted to the gaming, the software, the appearence and the mp3 player. Soon after buying it, I started to loathe the phone's size and weak battery life. The ringtones weren't that good and there were so many annoying bits to it - i.e. the screensaver you can't turn off. The WAP is very difficult to set up and the games cost £35.00 a time, which to be honest, isn't worth it. The mp3 player only holds 2 songs and it sounds 'tinny' when its played. The video option is terrible and it can hold very very small files - i.e. 126kb

My £250 N-Gage has been left on the side and it's rarely ever used. I get more entertainment from my Nokia 3210, which at least has 3 very addictive games.

I have had this Nokia N-Gage mobile phone for 2 months, and it was great fun at first. But after awhile, the games get boring, and the shape just irritates you, worst of all you can txt with one hand, you need to be constantly holding the thing. It's got all the cool applications you would want in a phone except it doesn't have a camera. If you really care about the size of the phone, don't buy the n-gage.

Before I bought it, I already expected it to have an MP3 Player, Radio, Games, Real Player...etc. All these entertainment features. However, it strikes me that it can also have Microsoft Outlook Synchronization (Contact, Calender) which is similar to my Palm! I can also install many extra Symbian softwares, such as a Bible, eBook Reader, Photo Album Software.......etc. It is really a "Smart" Phone! Far better than I expected. The drawbacks are its power consumption and its size!

It's true that this Nokia N-Gage mobile phone has many good features, but there are also many significant drawbacks. The size of it being the main one, when you put that together with the awkward talking position it makes it impossible to use as a mobile when you're out and about. The other HUGE drawback is the weak weak weak battery life, you really would be lucky if the battery lasted 24 hours - very annoying. The phone would be so much better if it had a camera like the 6600. Yes, the phone has a media player but you'll soon find out how difficult it is to find movies in the right format or small enough in size to fit in the phone memory.

The Nokia N-Gage is great and I love it. The games are cool but I think the phone is too big. I used to have a nokia 3300 which was quite the same, Just size and quality difference. Love it all.

The Nokia N-Gage is the best mobile phone Ive ever owned. You can even play movies on it. At first its a pain to have to take out the battery just to put a game or memory card in but you get used to it. Battery life is fairly well but it really depends on what you are doing radio-20 hours realone player-15 hours games-6-8 hours internet-30 hours phone-10-20 mp3-10 hours. If you buy it I recommend getting a memory card if your going to use it for movies, mp3s, java games or applications. In UK the memory card comes with the device. This is only a tenth of what you can do with the n-gage. For java games and applications you can go to these websites www.my-symbian.com www.nokiamp.com or do a search in google.

★★★★★

written by Daed on 12/03/2004

I had a difficult decision to make, the Nokia 7259i or the Nokia N-Gage - ive read tons of reviews on each half and considered the N-gage to be the mobile phone for me, built in mp3 (with loudspeaker!) built in radio, internet browser and the games/sound are great.

The radio quality is great for me, but i'd like the keypad noises to be abit louder.. and as far as im concerned the way you hold the phone to talk into doesnt bother me, its small so no-one could notice, however i got a handsfree kit with it so you can avoid it if nesasary.

Texting is easy and smooth, replying/sending texts is so much easier than my previous phone (Samsung A800) and the N-gage price is pretty low Virgin supplied mine for £160 on pay as you go.. they gave me £25 credit too, so i was very glad that i could re-join virgin!

Battery life is pretty good, approx 6 days standby i think, and for a gamedeck i think its great, however this is still a phone, and as a phone i think it is top of the mobile league! the reception on the phone is great making calls is easy and swift.

The bad points arnt really that bad i suppose, the first time i got my N-Gage i kept pressing the wrong buttons and such, but if someone calls when your in the middle of a text, when the call is over your text is still there. The standard 32mb memory card wasnt a good thing, although memory cards are cheap 128mb £34, and 1gb £399, so there is a choice in memory cards from 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1gb.

To sum things up i made the right decision to get the N-gage, its perfect for me, wide variaty of ring tones and tons of things to do, download games and such, i love it!

P.S i also found it hard to locate that small on/off button!
