“The Boots advantage card is advertised as the most...”

★★☆☆☆

written by From my experience on 28/03/2009

The Boots advantage card is advertised as the most generous loyalty card in the UK. However, I recently discovered at the till that you cannot use it for part payment of a product. I bought a porduct for £40. I wanted to use my £20 worth of points towards the payment, but was told I can't!

So, if I buy a product that costs £20.01, I cannot use any of my Advantage card points towards the payment . . . !!!!!!!

Perhaps, not so generous after all. Why don't they widely advertise that fact?

A Boots Advantage card can be used at any Boots store to collect points every time you make a purchase, even if you are buying just one item! Boots Advantage Card is the most generous loyalty card in the UK which gives you 4 points for every £1 that you spend in store or online.
I think this card is fantastic, not only is it free but they are also rewarding you for spending in their store. The Triple and double points events are brilliant to get lots of extra points and its get to use the points to treat yourself or just save up until Christmas or a birthday! I do a big shop in boots every month and can easily spend about £30. I then try to save the points as long as I can, so I can use them when I am waiting for that pay-day or waiting for a special occasion!

I think that the boots advantage card offers a good reward, and i like the fact that you can top-up your phone and get points for it so you get 40 points (pence) for every £10 spent.

I reposted my Card lost by email in October. I have yet to receive a new one. I have found Boots to be extremely slow.

“Love 'em or hate 'em, it has to be said, loyalty cards...”

★★★★★

written by joeyruss on 01/11/2007

Love 'em or hate 'em, it has to be said, loyalty cards are here to stay. Those cynics out there will no doubt see them as yet another example of "Surveillance Britain" and complain that all these cards do is let the powers that be know what we buy, how often and where ....

Well ok, this is true but look at it from the retailer's view .. what a wonderful tool for keeping tabs on what we buy and what we don't, how often we purchase the same product, which people in which parts of the country use which products and so on and so on ....

But its not ALL about the retailer. Don't underestimate the benefits to we, the consumers ..

At this point, I will single out Boots Advantage Cards. This scheme is, in my opinion, the best. Four points per pounds spent but each point is worth a penny. So unlike Tesco for example, you get a straight 4% discount off anything and everything whenever you hand over your card.

Boots often, VERY often in fact, have triple points deals. They're always advertised on TV so doubtful you'll not know about it. Maybe these deals will last a few days so if you shop during the promotion period, your discount (on everything) goes up to 12%. Not bad at all.

What about the really special deals? Well, yes, quite often, on certain products, there may be a one off bonus of 250 points or more just for buying the one product. These are usually for the more upmarket names but 250 points is £2.50 and well worth having as long as you make sure that the product is not available cheaper elsewhere .. worth checking that .... Not that I'm suggesting that this is what Boots do, on the contrary, I have always found their prices to be fair and very competitive.

If you shop online and Boots do have a great online shopping experience and some fab bargains, you may get even better Advantage deals. For example, a couple of months ago, I spent about £60 on two bottles of Eau de Toilette on Boots.com. At the time they were offering triple points AND a 1,000 points bonus on sales of £60 or more. I made a whopping 1,720 on that purchase and suddenly had £17.20 added to my card to spend on anything and everything, or just keep it stored on the card ready for Christmas shopping. Well, nice thought but I don't have that sort of will power I'm afraid.

These extra bonus points don't happen just once in a blue moon either .. watch out for them, you just have to take advantage (pardon the pun) and make the most of them and then you get a real bargain.

Lastly, you get promotional coupons in the mail just like you do with other retailers but the difference now is that these will be tailor made for YOU. No offers on female sanitary towels if you're a single guy .. you'll get what's relevant for YOU.

Sign up for one .. they're free and the points add up .. quickly .. especially if you watch out for the special offers. Happy shopping J

“On a recent visit to Boots I discovered my Advantage...”

written by brett4243 on 17/02/2006

On a recent visit to Boots I discovered my Advantage card missing from my wallet. I contacted Boots to be told my points had been redeemed. As all my other cards were intact it is possible that it was not returned to me and fraudulently used. There is no id check on point redemption. It is easy and almost undetectable for dishonest staff to keep the card, especially if it's a cash payment and they don't swipe the card resulting in a completely untraceable transaction.

“Everyone should have one of the Boots loyalty cards....”

★★★★★

written by vherbertsmith on 16/09/2004

Everyone should have one of the Boots loyalty cards. I've had one for years and I use it to buy baby products, sun creams and special pampering bits that I may not otherwise get. I have also managed to get a hairdryer and three hair straightners just by collecting points. The card is very easy to set up and you can even register as an organ donor via it. The machines in store provide extra points off vouchers. This outweighs all other cards by far and it must work for Boots as well. I know that I now get all my toiletries in there rather than just some of them to earn my points.

“At Boots you can receive 4 points when you spend...”

★★★★★

written by zoemlamb on 07/09/2004

At Boots you can receive 4 points when you spend £1.00, but if you use the advantage machine in the larger stores you can get money off vouchers and lots of extra points which you can spend on almost anything. At Christmas they have a vast amount of gifts and toys on 3 for 2 which not only saves you money but you also get the points on top of the fact as a cardholder you get invited to store promotions offering you special offers and a free gift bag with substantial points if you buy at the event. The amount of money you can save getting the free items of your choice if you use the card the right way is what makes this card the best by far.

“Boots has the best loyalty card scheme in my opinion....”

★★★★★

written by DEB788 on 10/08/2004

Boots has the best loyalty card scheme in my opinion. It is so simple and very generous. You get 4 points for every pound spent and then an redeem these by presenting your card at checkout on most items. Very good if you shop for holiday items or buy your lunch there as they soon add up

“The Boots Advantage Card offers its users 4p back for...”

★★★★★

written by smithster on 09/09/2003

The Boots Advantage Card offers its users 4p back for every pound you spend in a pharmacy and 1p back for all other shops. Whilst Boots have brought out new tempoary cards not all outlets have them and it is alot of hassle transfering your points from the tempoary card to your new card.

All in all this is a good card with many unique features.
