Having bought Clairol Nice & Easy hair colour in the Dark BROWN shade, I felt reassured that I was not making an error in my purchase, it was made by a reputable company...BIG MISTAKE... IN FACT, HUGE MISTAKE...My hair is BLACK!! It is not the colour that is shown on the box that's for sure; no where near the colour!!

Everyone knows that women in general are extremely fussy about their hair being just right, and now, thanks to this product, mine is ruined. I would really appreciate it if any one can tell me how to change the shade from black back to brown. I WILL NEVER BUY THIS PRODUCT AGAIN. On a good point, if there is one - if it's black hair you want, then this is the colour for you.

The SAME THING just happened to me!! I wanted a nice, rich dark BROWN, and now my hair is JET BLACK, which is not attractive on me! And I have to go to work this way! I am not new to coloring my hair, and I have done so many times, over with different colour hues, but this is the first time that I used Clairol (for whatever reason, I decided to change), and I regret it greatly.
How soon after coloring can I re-color? Can I tonight?

written by smartmaven on 24/08/2007

As a dishwater blonde, I have been using Clairol's Nice and Easy 103 color seal for 5 years. Loved it, and even my hairdresser loved the color, and was impressed I did it myself. Imagine my surprise when I couldn't locate it 2 months ago and saw the new color blend. So I tried it. The smell was so intense my husband said "What is that?" And my scalp burned (something that has never happened before). And the color...not right! I called the Clairol hotline and complained, and asked where I could get the color seal 103. They informed me that was no longer going to be available...all color blend now. I visited 3 different drug stores, and fortunately found a few boxes of color seal 103. I am now stocked up for the next 6 months. It is sad when a company has a product that people love and then change it for new packaging and new harsher colors. Perhaps with enough complaints, they may see the light!!

I have been using Clairol 106 for a number of years without any problems, More recently - within the last 6 months - the colour is completely unstable changing from light brown to pale blonde within one week. I have followed the instructions to the letter and am now looking for a more stable product.

written by WH45UtA on 10/08/2007

I used to use this hair dye all the time, and it would come out completely the way I wanted it to.

BUT... This time I tried a deeper brown version of the Clairol Nice'n Easy hair dye, because it looked nice on the box, and while I was waiting for it to work, I noticed it getting very dark. I washed it off in half the time I was supposed to leave it on for and it made my hair pitch black!! I look goth! I'm so upset - now I'm going to have to pay lots of money to go and fix it at a salon.

This product has left a very sour taste in my mouth.

“I had my hair dyed with foils at my local hairdressers...”

written by R YARDLEY on 24/07/2007

I had my hair dyed with foils at my local hairdressers nearly 3 weeks before, and thought the under sections of my hair could be lighter. so, in a bid to save myself some money I bought the Nice and Easy dye 104 natural honey blonde. A friend who is training to be a hairdresser said she would put it on for me. Once she had finished I noticed the dye did look quite red, and asked if the final colour would be like that. She assured me it wouldn't, that it was just the colour process and the area which I had darker blonde foils on would go reddish before going golden blonde. so we gave the dye its full time as recommended on the box, so as to lighten my hair as much as allowed, and rinsed off, giving it a good shampoo and finishing with the conditioner. When we saw the finished result, we were both puzzled and disheartened. The result given for this dye for hair from light blonde to medium brown was by no stretch of the imagination what was looking back in the mirror at me! MY HAIR WAS LOOKING A LOT LIKE GINGER, ESPECIALLY WERE I HAD HIGHLIGHTS AT THE FRONT! I WILL NOT BE USING ANY CLAIROL PRODUCTS AGAIN!

I have always used N+E 108 --- it has always been a wonderful product for me. Now, and for the last six months, I have not been able to find it. So, no matter how much I like it, if I can't get it I have to rate it 0. I noticed in another review that the same problem applies to other #s of products. I think it is rubbish when you like a product, use it faithfully and then the company does not think enough of the customer to keep the product available. I will probably have to change to a more reliable company.

“I bought Clairol Nice and Easy dark brown color...”

written by clon6 on 10/07/2007

I bought Clairol Nice and Easy dark brown color because the picture on the box was a beautiful brown shade, and I thought it would look great on my hair. However, the color my hair turned out to be nothing like the color indicated on the model on the front of the box, the color on top of the box OR the before and after pictures on the back of the box. My hair looks black - so dark, and I hate it. I followed the directions exactly too. I was very disappointed with the results. I can't imagine why they could not show a more accurate shade on the box. Maybe their color experts can't tell the difference between brown and black, or maybe their photographers use bad lighting - who knows what their reasons are? But I do know this, I will not buy another Clairol Nice and Easy hair color.

written by xserena69 on 28/06/2007

I have been using Clairol Nice'n Easy (colour blend technology) the past few times I have dyed my hair. I am extremely pleased with the colour, and I am very shocked that people have complained. It does give 100% grey coverage that lasts, otherwise it wouldn't say that on the box! They would get sued! My hair is ruined, and after using a variety of hair dye's, I know my hair does not keep colour, but Nice'n Easy is probably the best, long lasting hair colour I have used.

I disagree with this review because...

I have been using Nice N' Easy® since the mid 1970's when the box said it covered up to 35% gray. For 100% coverage, use MISS CLAIROL® Creme Or Shampoo Formula. And I can state with authority, the new formula does not work as well as it did.

I have been using it for years, and I have been very happy with it. It seems my colour (102B) is no longer available. I tried 102, but it is not even close on my hair. Too brown! I will not buy Clairol Nice'n Easy hair color again.

I naturally have dark brown hair, but I have been using Nice 'n Easy Light Caramel brown for a while, until recently, because it's harder to find now they have 'improved'. I had always been happy with the caramel colour, but I wanted to go lighter, so I just used Nice 'n Easy Light Golden brown, and it has made my hair darker!!! Even though it is their lightest brown shade??!!

written by AmyBaby on 07/05/2007

I'm naturally a light brown colour and wanted to lighten my hair slightly, and I chose the Clairol Nice'n Easy shade 106A - Natural Dark Blonde hair dye. The side of the box indicated that my hair colour was suitable for this shade. I followed the instructions to the letter - even doing the strand test, as I have been stung in the past by bad colours. The strand test came out great, so I proceeded with the full colour. I have quite thick hair, and one bottle wasn't enough, but two was way too much, but I put it all in anyway to make sure every strand was saturated. I left it on for 25 minutes and had a look, and my roots had gone ginger! I left it on for another 10 minutes but no change. I will definitely not be using Nice'n Easy or any other Clairol hair product again.

I have used Nice & Easy #106A or B (Natural Dark Blond) for years, and loved it. The new and improved formula is terrible!! Not only do I not like the shade, it washes out too fast (especially on the gray hairs), and I now have reddish tints, which I had never had before. I'm ready to switch brands!!

written by danhauer on 25/04/2007

I liked the color, and liked the lift... I used Ultress for years, until they discontinued it. I found the "replacement" color on Clairol's website... But I will say this... it does NOT stay in the gray!! It washes out within days! I am having to color every two weeks, even with the special little "color saver" conditioner. (And I am using regular shampoo...) Ohhh, but check this out... Today I found Clairol color made especially for covering gray, which cost $3 more than Nice N' Easy. (It's probably Ultress in different packaging...) Nice N' Easy way to get more money from the customer. I did not buy it. I would rather spend $40 MORE to get a good, reliable coloring from a hairdresser.

“I applied the product, following all the directions,...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by TadHanna on 12/12/2006

I applied the product, following all the directions, and left it on for the exact time specified, but the color didn't seem to take. It was kind of vaguely staining my gray roots, and then it seemed to fade over the weeks. Clairol Nice'n Easy contains a conditioner that is supposed to be applied each week, but the color had faded away thoroughly by the time I applied it; so of course, it could hardly do much. I won't be buying this one again.

“A once great hair color, Clairol Nice'n Easy, the #1...”

★★☆☆☆

written by beautybear on 18/10/2006

A once great hair color, Clairol Nice'n Easy, the #1 selling brand in both the USA and overseas at one time.
The first mistake was changing from "lasting touch" conditioning shampoo to the terrible so-called healthy shine conditioner. A tiny bottle of the thinnest conditioner ever. It would take three bottles to cover my shorter-than-chin-length hair. And it would still give less than spectacular results. The new conditioner gives a bigger tube, but the same lame results. The second mistake, was changing from a shampoo-in hair color to a creme-gel. The consistency is like snot - cold, slimy and not very easy to spread over your hair, not to mention how it feels on your head. Also the "new formula" fades too fast. The third mistake was discontinuing my favorite shade. Three strikes....and yerrr out!!! I guess that's why it's no longer #1 and why I'll probably not be buying "Nice 'n Easy" again.

I have used Clairol Nice'n Easy - No. 98 for many years without any reaction to my scalp and found it gave me the exact colour I wanted, but on this application, it irritated my skin and I found I had to rinse it off before my colour had developed. I wonder if the ingredients have been modified.

I was going from a natural blonde to a brunette. I applied the Clairol Nice 'n' Easy dye, and left it on for the allocated time. Nothing happened! It was supposed to be a chestnut colour and it only made my hair the tiniest bit darker, and not one person noticed at work the next day. It stunk to high heaven as well.

I have used Clairol Nice 'n' Easy for years. Now, my hair color is no longer to be found. I used 116B, natural light caramel brown. I was just wondering if this color has been discontinued, or if it is just being sold at limited retailers. I have checked with Walmart, Kmart, Walgreens and CVS, and none of them carry it any longer. Can anyone please let me know if there is another color that will match me with the same color. If you can help, can you please leave me a comment?

Thank you.

The dye was easy to use. I originally have dark brown hair but had red flashes through it that I wanted to get rid of. Using this hair dye darkened the red and lightened my natural colour. Had ridiculous looking multicoloured hair before I used L'Oreal dye to sort it out!!!!

Hi I have be using this product for many years the new formula says put on dry hair but a lot of the time I have spray color on it to get me though before I can color it. so I have to wash and then dry my hair before I color it? is that correct? I hate the new formula. Harsh on the hair doesn't leave it shiny dries it out damages the hair.

I've been using Nice 'n Easy in Dark Reddish Brown for years. I can't find it now. Tried Dark Auburn, didn't cover my grey or color the rest of my hair. Tried Age Defying in Medium Auburn and grey. It turned pinkish red and the rest of my hair was almost brown. Has Clairol changed their formula and/or dropped shades?
