“Do not use”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LiamO'Neal on 18/06/2015

I won't recommend to anyone. Hardly 4 washes and the color is gone. There is lot of hairfall and too much of dry hair. Not worth the price it is sold for.

“Allergic reaction”

written by McNamaramx178 on 20/03/2014

I have never had any problems with blond dyes but with this Revlon product i'm itching everywhere, started on scalp and now my neck, ears and so the list continues... am now using a antihistamine. Going back to using Lóreal. Do not buy Revlon ammonia free dye!

“Pretty color, but Burned and Hair Fell Out! ”

★★★☆☆

written by rachelwright on 09/10/2013

I liked the price and everything, it was a good product overall. But there are two major problems It burnt like heck but I kept it on and it looks good Also when I rinsed it for the first time it, a large clump of hair came out. It didn't shock me too much, as my friend uses the same brand and it happened to her. I used Dark Brown #30 and got it at Kroger's for a cheap 3 dollars. Don't expect anything less for a cheapo hair dye. My hair's not dry or anything, as I used all of the conditioner that came with it. It made my hair smell good and was so soft. So yeah good for the budget, not for the hair..

“Burned my scalp!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 19/09/2013

We usually use L'oreal haircolor. My sister and I thought we would try this one, since it was cheaper, and no ammonia. From the moment my sister put it on my scalp, it felt a little tingly, and then started to sting and burn slightly. The stinging worsened as time went by, but I toughed it out. Stupid decision. I really shouldn't have. The color looked ok, but really stained the scalp, more than other hair colors in the past. Also, tiny red spots appeared on my scalp, where the stinging had been. My scalp was also so sore and itchy. This pain was pretty bad for about a week, and is now starting to subside, but my scalp is still itchy. My sister said she could see dandruff on the scalp, when the pain and itch was at its worst. She experienced the same thing, but to a lesser degree. I used the blue/black, and she used the natural black. Our hair is so dry now, and feels damaged. Not to mention what it's done to our scalps. I can actually feel bumps on my scalp. We will never use this hair color again.

“Revlon due works every time for more than 30 years”

★★★★★

written by on 09/07/2013

Would never go to a salon to have my hair dyed. It is expensive and Revlon has never failed to give me nice hair color. With simple instructions it is the easiest way to get lovely color and so cheap! Been dying my hair for more than 30 years. If I had complaints about dying hair myself I would tell you.

One solution is to get #75 Warm Golden Blonde and use it with 1/4 oz #45 Bright Auburn or #53 Light Auburn if this is not light enough use #03 Ultra Light Sun Blonde instead of #75 Warm Golden Blonde. You don't need extra developer unless you use more than 1/2 oz. additional color - if you do, just add an equal amount of developer, if you are mixing shades Half And Half just pour remaining colorant into one bottle and recap tightly. Good-Luck!!

“Really impressed”

★★★★★

written by on 14/03/2013

I have lots of gray, so do roots every 3 weeks in b/w colors. I've tried every kind of drugstore brand and this has worked the best! No ammonia is great too! It doesn't smell harsh like other brands. It colors the gray well. Even my hair dresser commented on how much better my gray coverage was at my last appointment. Also this is cheap!! I hope I don't jinx myself after giving such a great review. But 2 times using and I'm really impressed!

“SO DAMAGING! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 01/03/2013

My hair has always been really shiny, flexible, and soft! Now after using this hair dye it became dull, brittle, and dry. Not to mention it's not very effective hair dye either. NEVER using this brand ever again! I hope my hair recovers from this. Such a waste!

wish i had seen this comment BEFORE i used it! my once shiny long sofy hair is now very dry, feels like straw, is snapping off and very brittle. I always use nice and easy but seen this on offer so thought "why not"? I used it on my roots first for 10mins, then all over my longer hair for 10 mins. Glad i didnt leave it on any longer! as soon as i rinsed i could feel the difference. Yes i blow dry, yes, i straighten but my once lovely hair is not straw like and will need to a good few inches off :-(

“Damages hair, but was supposed to improve texture says...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 18/12/2012

So I gave in and fell for the cheap stuff....now 8 weeks later I am still paying for it. My hair before Colorsilk was healthy, soft and wavy/curly. It held curl when I would used my big curling iron and had tons of shine and volume. Now after Colorsilk, when I wash it and rinse it feels gummy and matted. I have to use 2 or 3 handfuls of conditioner just to get it separated and rinsed. I also have to use quite a few sprays of leave on conditioner just to be able to get a brush through it after washing. When wet it is straight, flat, thin. As it is drying it simply frizzes and as I am styling it no longer holds curl. It feels like nylon doll hair that has been laying in a box in the attic for years-matted, frizzy, damaged. I should have read reviews before purchasing...but to be quite honest a lot of customers out there gives it great reviews. I do not understand how I got so "lucky".

“best hair color ever”

★★★★★

written by shine52 on 26/10/2012

First of all, I have to rate this product as one of the best out there. I mean I cannot complaint, because the product and the price works well with my budget. I notice the shine and how silky my hair feels afterwards, the color works great until my next hair color. It covers the gray areas better than other known brands. I have used all products, including professional hair color such as redken, and other high end products but this product works good on my hair. I don't understand why other reviews don't like the product, either you are not following instructions or your hair is not clean, but whatever it is, all I have to say, I am rating this product as one of the best in the drugstores industry. Good job Revlon!

“BEST I HAVE EVER USED”

★★★★★

written by on 02/06/2012

I have been colouring my hair myself since my retirement. Every other colour I have used gives an instant "black" look even though I use light brown. This is the first time that I have coloured my hair and it is immediately looking great - just like the box says, and I could go straight out without having the "just coloured" look. Great product!!!!

“Amazing feeling, but fading color”

★★★☆☆

written by on 27/03/2012

I was blonde for a while, but recently decided I wanted to try a dark brown, so I got this brand for 2 for $6. It was a great price, and the day I colored my hair I absolutely loved it. It turned out a great color and my hair felt AMAZING! I've been using my Garnier color protector shampoo and conditioner, so my hair still feels great, but my color has faded a lot. I've been told my hair looks like a dirty blonde color, which is disappointing because I really liked the dark color. So, for the first few days my hair was great, but less than two weeks later my hair is already resorting back to its old color. Maybe this is only because I went from very light to very dark, but it was disappointing none the less.

written by on 12/02/2011

I recently used revlon color silk to attempt to go from a natural medium brown working towards blonde. My naturally hair color was darker than any of the before pictures on the box so as expected I wouldn't get the results shown on the box. That said I was happy with the lighter brown result I got and my hair felt and looked healthier afterwards. For the price I was very pleased.

“I purchased a box of Revlon ColorSilk #31 (dark...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 17/01/2011

I purchased a box of Revlon ColorSilk #31 (dark auburn). I had previously used Revlon Colorsilk Black, so effectively the colour should have come out a dark auburn, according to the box. However, on application and rinsing- my roots turned out bright orange and the rest of the head did not take the colour : so orange roots and black hair the rest of the way down. Did the chemicals perhaps get mixed up? Were they off? Did they use a stripper chemical by mistake?
I did this on a Sunday evening so have had to arrive at work Monday morning looking like this until I can get to the shops. I have taken photos and kept the box and what was left of the colour mix. However, both the international and SA Revolon sites do not have direct email addresses to correspond with them - merely a fill-in form.
What has happened to such a well-known and usually well-liked brand? I know I won't be purchasing it again.

Hello,
I am sorry to hear about your hair. I am not a stylist but I have experience with this. I used to color my hair blue black. The problem with coloring your hair black is you have to go through a process to get it lightened. You either have to bleach it or put in highlights(bleaching) or wait until your hair grows out or you can get a wig until it grows out. I would go to a salon and have them do a color correction so you don't damage your hair because basically that is what you will need to do. Good luck!!

NO, You can't lift color with color. Your roots lightened because they are close to your scalp and receive more body heat and have less dye on them.

I have used your Revlon Colorsilk Ammonia Free, in medium ash blonde. Liked it very much...but I was wondering if it came in light ash blonde, the medium was a little dark. I can't find it in any of the stores. Thank you.

I had the same problem. I got the medium ash blonde, thinking it would only darken my hair a slight bit, and it ended up turning it brown :( I'm going to the drugstore tonight to get my old faithful l'oreal couleur experte in brioche (medium blonde) to fix it!

Yes # 80 Light Ash Blonde is available but you may need to ask at your drugstore or chemist to order it as not all shades are carried.

written by on 11/12/2010

I don't know whether the distraught reviewers did something wrong, or I just got lucky, but I had a completely pleasant experience. Upon reading all the reviews, I was definitely nervous to use it. Still, I went ahead and did it, and it worked just like any other dye -silky hair and all! I used it to dye my hair back to black, and here I am with black silky hair. Plus, no porcelain stains or anything. So amazed at the price I paid for it!

“I couldn't give it but 1 star. I am standing at the...”

written by on 04/11/2010

I couldn't give it but 1 star. I am standing at the market picking up my usual hair dye when the $2.50 for Revlon Colorsilk caught my eye. I got on my phone and read these reviews. So many great consistent reviews and a few about leaving hair like straw. SInce nothing has ever left my hair with a bad texture I picked up a box.

Got home and followed the directions. Same as the usual hair dyes, but shorter time to leave on the dye. So here I am 2 hours later and my naturally curly/wavy hair is drying and my hair is dry, fuzzy and showing gray.

The state of my hair before coloring: Soft curls/waves. Lots of volume and lift. Color has faded from dark brown to Medium brown with Auburn highlights.

Reason for coloring.. It had about 1/2 inch of roots showing. Not needing a dye job just yet, but thought I would do it now before the hectic holiday schedule.

My hair after coloring: Stiff, frizzy, flat, dull. Grey is now showing through and wirey so its sticking up from my head. Some grey on entire strand of hair. Other grey strands are striped from all color. Looking thru my hair I see white flakes indicating that my scalp is now dry.

I wasted $3 and 2 hours of my time. Going back to my usual brand.
