“What on earth has happened to this on e unmissable soap!”

★★☆☆☆

written by Reynolds376 on 04/01/2024

Coronation Street has become so unbelievable and totally boring. The only best bits involves the superb acting by Peter Ash who plays Paul Foreman, so realistic. Everything else has gone so far down the pan it is ridiculous. Tracey and David used to have great parts, funny, so watchable and very real. What is that awful Damian doing back! Yet another stupid gangster story, yet another blackmail story about to come out probably and everyone lying to everyone else constantly. Some of the most unbelievable storylines ever and I don’t doubt there will by yet another affair story too! They can’t seem to think up anything else these days. The ridiculous Fizz and Aggie stories, please stop insulting us, I for one have had enough.

can someone please tell me what language Dev Alahan speaks, all i can hear is a mumble between clenched teeth, almost a whisper with a stupid grin, when he does speak up he talks so fast i haven't a clue what he's on about.Add this problem to the fact he's a useless actor all in all he's a waste of space.

“My favourite soap ”

★★★★★

written by on 06/12/2023

I am a 21 year old superfan of Coronation Street. I have watched since January 2007 when Charlie Stubbs was violently killed by Tracy Barlow. Every year I have watched it has included the same two things- humour and hard hitting drama. I find it sad how people have given up on it but it's not Corrie's fault that life has become more difficult than ever. People seem to think Corrie is the worst thing on tv. Personally, I'd say Hollyoaks is the worst. Corrie has one of the biggest fanbases in the world across the UK, Canada and Australia. I'm sure things will change in the future. These soaps don't keep the same producers. They always change. But there's no need to insult their work or the cast involved in telling these stories. They're only doing they're jobs. I still think Corrie is the strongest soap going. It's currently 63 years old and still running. Long may it continue.

Corrie will survive if it has a good skake up,it needs to get back to realistic storylines, gets some humour back, get a good writer in,get rid of all this stupid woke social issue rubbish, basicly bring back the old Corrie every one knew and looked forward to watching,if they don't sort themselves out then they could end up on the scrap heao.

I have watched Corrie for over 50 years, okay very 55 years. Brings back so many memories of watching with my nan long ago when the likes of Pat Phoenix and Julie Goodyear ruled the waves, top soap then. Now just a boring no it worth watching programme where they must write the scripts in the tea breaks!

“Such a depressing episode”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Americaxyyzzz on 27/11/2023

Just awful. What are the scriptwriters doing? Corrie used to intersperse heavy storylines with humerous scenes. Now too many depressing storylines. How can you have, the bullying story; the gambling; story; the MND story along with Gemma's depression;the Carla, Peter story; the Lauren story all in one episode?. It's finished me off I can tell you. Watched Corrie for years and years and worked for Granada,YTV and then Itv all my working life and never seen anything like it. Needs a drastic rethink

I agree - too many children and youngsters - why? Noone can tell me that children and young people of the age portrayed actually watch CS. Even some of the long term actors are given scripts to reduce them to ridicule. Also there is a general lack of continuity compared with the classic episodes - sometimes a few weeks go by and then we return to a storyline.

... and to make matters even worse, there's another family member in the family of the worst actors that shouldn't have been created in the first place. The only two decent actors were the younger footballer son who unfortunately left early and now mother on a rather long absence. Father and brother were going to build houses but don't actually work; elder son is such a cringe actor and now we have to put up with OTT grandfather even longer. Who looks after the baby who would be too young to have that essential playhouse and interesting how Corrie seems to magic up bedrooms from nowhere.

“Oh dear - another director who wishes s/he was in film”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 29Fuller on 17/11/2023

Dreadful episode on 17 November. Clearly the director wishes they were really working in film and has no concept of TV or Coronation Street. Weird angles, daft moving from one scene to another through water running out of taps etc. You have missed the whole point of the programme. No thank you. You go back to the day job in film. We will go back to the directors of the past who knew what they were doing and kept us entertained.

Just watched on youtube about Ena Sharples and Elsie Tanner from the 60s/70s. I am of an age to say that episodes at that time did reflect real life in a back street. Fast forward 2023 and it is not just make belief but it is really utter rubbish.

Totally agree with you Trolleybus654. Unfortunately, faster paced lives and changes in society have demanded that plots keep up with what's happening today. In true Corrie style, writers are juggling ( struggling??) to remain relevant to some viewers, and informative to others. The early days focused on the steady and true characters and not the increasingly absurd and frankly, in such a small section of street, utterly crazy plots which characters are involved in. Thank goodness for YouTube...

The plots are fine and of course need to change but that is not my comment. The style of directing does not need to be more suitable for the big screen. The whole point of the programme is to be suitable for the small screen. Shame current directors are not happy with that.

This is complete rubbish, Peter clearly did not know what Steven had said to Jenny he thought he was taking her hostage.Peter reacted to the situation that’s all.Steven is a serial killer has lied and cheated everyone , dangerous man. Jenny suddenly believes he loved her. He killed her partner and his father was going to fly off and leave her but she believed he loved her. I found this whole ending of Stephen to be confusing and very poorly done. We were looking forward to the ending, very disappointing. I read that the 'Steven' character had to be wrapped up sooner rather than later, and I guess that's why the resulting story line suffered with it's poor writing. All the main characters involved in this story line have not come across as true, especially Jenny.

Definitely agree - only been in one episode and that was enough. Completely unbelievable. Why do all new characters in Soaps arrive with such an aggressive/unlikeable/angry attitude, or the opposite "cheeky chappy" who's just annoying and not funny in any way, eg Bobby. Corrie really needs one big CULL - there are not enough storylines to go around and it's soooooo repetitive. And I never want to see Billy and Paul in the buff again.....

“Tyrone mother”

written by jyCooley180 on 22/10/2023

Claire sweeney is a good actress but her storyline is so repetitive as not too long ago we went through all this with Abby so my interest in the storyline is nil just fast forward even though the actors are great it just doesn’t grab the imagination Please no more of the drug addiction storylines unless you have a break of a good few years the illnesses are the same I know it’s to draw attention to the conditions but how many can we see I’m a cancer survivor so understand the importance of the storylines but only so many times I want cheering up not always miserable with all the depressing storylines my husband has abandoned the show and now watches the classic ones which are so much more light hearted

I zoned out early on the Tyrone's mother story line. I know Corrie does try to allow some characters lighter moments and a laugh or two; viewers have complained for a long time about not having that. Classic Corrie watching is the best for long time fans of the show, it's like another world to watch it.

“Coronation Street”

Have just watched Fridays episode of Coronation Street! Omg what a shambles! Who the hell are the writers, producers???? They all need to be given their P45’s!! Nothing makes sense, the actors and their lines are dreadful, the Stephen departure episode was just embarrassing… I’m not sure which police force run Wethersfield, or are they a mickey mouse force as have absolutely no idea what’s going on,! It’s such a shame as there are still some of the original actors who are the only reason I continue to watch the soap but quite frankly I’m struggling to imagine where you picked up the rest of them from !!! Start tying up loose ends, do your research , try to make story lines realistic or else there won’t be any viewers left! ????

“Too much going on”

written by doubletake on 03/10/2023

It is impossible to keep up or remember the storylines. They switch from one to the other and nothing seems to get resolved. There are also too many irritating and unreal new characters not forgetting Billy the vicar with his whiney voice who seems to have forgotten where is church is located. It is all like a caricature these days.

Trolleybus654's Response to doubletake's Review

The whole of the current CS is a real mess with little continuity, then suddenly a group (or individual) of actors suddenly reappear for their few moments. As said before too many "political" issues - now we have children vaping - too many storylines involving children and young people who, in my view, are unlikely to watch CS.

How refreshing to watch the classic episodes, including Emily Bishop, with the actor Eileen Derbyshire apparently aged 92 today.

“Tyrone's mother Cassie”

★★☆☆☆

written by 464Sears on 12/09/2023

Like most viewers I am finding Cassie's appearance ridiculous. I feel the producers are taking us for fools. She made a reference to her teeth in last night's episode, but too little too late I feel. I think Claire Sweeny is doing a great job but it's just the ridiculous teeth, eyebrows and botoxed face that a junkie, or recovering one, could rarely afford. The same with her doppelganger Abi.

“Used to be much better”

★★☆☆☆

written by Ogden319 on 29/08/2023

After watching classic coronation it was much better than it is now. Characters have no money but go to the pub. cafe or the bistro when not at work. The kettles never boil, the washer never gets used or tv. Clare Sweenny playing Tyrone’s mother, her makeup is terrible along with ridiculous eyebrows.A lot of good actors but the storylines let it down and the humour has almost gone. Despite that it’s good to see original characters and some storylines are good but don’t go anywhere for a while.

And the clothes - hardly an episode without a new outfit on the women - eg Sarah, Sally, DeeDee, Daisy,Carla - even though it's always black. On mostly minimum wages??????? “Couldn't watch”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 301Nichols on 30/07/2023

Watching in US. Tried to watch the episode set on Coronation Day, because I love Eastenders. Couldn't finish it. Bitter snarkfest in a pub giving out free food for the occasion. Couldn't decide if it was supposed to be comedy? Characters people you just try to avoid in real life--constant negativity for no good reason, trying to be witty but only succeeding in being stupid. Very bad. Checked out Emmerdale as well. Seems boring and depressing. Guess I will just have to wait for new Eastenders episodes.

I stopped watching Coronation Street just after the end of the pandemic. Before that, I was struggling to make any comprehension of it. It seems the scriptwriters fail to get anything right and never learn from their mistakes. The introduction of slapstick comedy, then it suddenly tries to be overly serious, sometimes in the same frame. Total ludicrous storylines, non-believable characters, and abysmal acting all round.

“Please speak slowly”

★★★☆☆

written by fnDaugherty166 on 23/05/2023

Some of the members of the cast could do much more for their character, and the sometimes bewildered viewer if they would please just slow down! They gabble the script too quickly and nothing is making much sense. If they have learnt the lines, please make the effort to speak them clearly. I believe it is the director's job is to get the best out of the script and the actors, so it's not all their fault, and if Rita, played by Barbara Knox could just take over as director for an episode with the younger players, she would show them how to act, and act them off the screen, her enunciation is always perfect.

“Still pushing the Cashless Agenda! ”

★★★☆☆

It was really irritating to see Evelyn paying in Dev's shop by card! In real life, that would have been unlikely, and not fitting her character! Showing that is so unnecessary, but of course it is Part of pushing the Cashless Agenda!
