“Soltan spray sun cream”

★☆☆☆☆

written by UrijahMcDougall1949 on 07/09/2014

I applied factor 50 on my face last week and now have a bad reaction. It has made my face red, sore and itchy. It's so sore I can't put anything on as it stings so much. Would not recommend or use this product again. If 50 factor can do that I worry about the lower factors and for children as we'll. it was the small travel bottle I bought in July this year but only used it for the first time last week at home. Never again!!!!

“Sore and itchy”

written by Darrylv187 on 19/07/2014

I have had a bad reaction to this and am left with a sore and itchy face. When it first happened I thought it was using last year's product so bought a new one, waited a few weeks until fully recovered and tried again - I wish I had not!

“Soltan Stains Clothes”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Freddie777 on 19/03/2014

We've just returned from the Caribbean where we were using Soltan factor 50. We're in complete agreement with other reviewers about the staining problem with this product. All my white shirts are ruined & there are noticeable stains on light coloured clothing. Do not use this product and come on Boots do something about it.

“Stained my pool”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Lesgascous on 22/04/2013

Clients renting our french house used Soltan once whilst bathing , the end result is that we are now faced with an immovable green stain around the waterline of the pool? I contacted boots to ask advise and they told me to use dandruff shampoo to clean with! We have now band the use of this product at the house , not only has it decked a new swimming pool it has also been responsible for staining of sheets and towels. Comments from boots have been totally unacceptable!

“Stained Clothes”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/04/2013

I really like most boots products but have been let down by various Soltan products. As others have said, it stains light coloured clothing and won't wash out, leaving yellow marks around arms and neck lines especially. I am looking for an alternative this year, which is a shame as I am an utter boots devotee, but I must agree with my husband, who is refusing to buy this again for this years holiday. It does give good protection, smells nice and goes on well and evenly but I just can't risk ruining more clothes again.

“Worst sun protection ever experienced”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Molly1981 on 09/04/2013

I bought the family pack of soltan creams (factor 15, 30 and kids 50) to take on our honeymoon, along with a bottle of P20 and a bottle of piz buin.. I've tried all different sunscreens over the years and always found them effective enough to ensure I never actually burn, until now! My husband started off using the Piz Buin and I used the Soltan. Our first day at te beach I followed the directions on the bottle and applied the cream generously, reapplied regularly, went for a swim in the sea and then reapplied shortly afterwards. Not long after I started noticing a pink area which I spotted because I'd applied a separate sunblock stick to a recent scar which was still white. I went and sat in the shade straight away for another 20 minutes or so and then as things were getting redder said to my husband I was heading back to the hotel. That evening I was bright red everywhere where my swimming costume had been and on my back and front where I'd been lying on my towel despite me being very careful to apply the cream under the straps and costume had been. Ultimately, the soltan had been rubbed off very easily and had offered me no protection whatsoever and I had white patches everywhere I'd used the Uvistat sunblock. I ended up spending the next day in the room while my husband went to the pool wearing his Piz Buin and the following few days wearing the p20, sunblock and dodging the sun as much as possible. Nightmare for our sunny honeymoon. I'd almost decided not to write this review except for what happened today. We ran out of Piz Buin and had nearly finished the P20 and as we're on an island in a country where you hear horror stories of people manufacturing fake suncream my husband said he would use the Soltan and I used up the last of the P20. We didn't go swimming at all, lay in the sun for about 40 minutes as then moved into the shade. I was fine, no signs of any tan at all with the p20, but my husband has ended up with a burnt back thanks to Boots Soltan factor 30 and 50 for kids (bought in the UK), which again appears to have just rubbed off with a bit of sweat and lying on a towel. I honestly don't know how they can market this as a water resistant sunscreen as any sweat or dampness from a drying costume WILL remove it and you might burn. We will never buy Soltan ever again and urge anyone reading this to rethink. If you have children please don't risk it, I've never ever been so shocked by a sunscreen before. We've said from now on we'll only use p20 or now I think they do a p50 which we'll also try. One application in the morning, lasts all day including swimming and sweating and so much more effective than soltan 30 or 50forkids. Agree with other reviews that it stained clothes yellow, so did p20 but we don't care about that, just that we won't get burnt again in future.

I wish I had read this review before using the factor 50 on my 8 year old (holiday in Tenerife). I am totally devastated at the state of his skin I had him in a protective sun top and shorts and his only exposed areas were his forearms and legs. I stopped using it after 2 days and used a sun cream recommended by a skincare advisor at our hotel. But the damage was done. He is incredibly burnt and has blisters up his forearms. I totally trusted the Boots name. I am shocked, devastated and ashamed. Please avoid this sun cream.

written by Hellsbells1 on 12/08/2012

If prickly heat has blighted your time in the sun then it's time to breathe a huge sigh of relief as Soltan introduces a sunscreen which really does stop the on set of the awful symptoms. Try it - you'll never look back. Just returned from the best holiday I've ever had with the deepest tan ever too! I feel reborn. Thank you Boots. Please do not take your prickly heat sensitive cream out of production.

“Avoid all Soltan-even kids once-we all blistered ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 08/06/2012

I bought soltan sensitive for myself as have used in the past without a problem, and the soltan kids once water play. We used all as it instructs you to on the bottle (and more!) and it ruined clothes as stains a horrid yellow colour, and we all burnt and blistered!wouldnt ever use again! Spoke to boots as I felt was serious they should know-was given a £75 gift card! We bought Nivea after the troubles and had no problems-didn't stain clothes and didnt blister!my advice-you pay for what you get!

“soltan factor 50+ very high - avoid as we burnt”

★☆☆☆☆

written by amylw1 on 28/05/2012

i was reccomened soltan factor 50 via a friend who has children and has used it for a couple of years including for trips abroad. my local boots had it on offer at the end of march so i bought 3 bottles of it - 1 for nusery, 1 for car and 1 for home. boots soltan factor 50+very high moisturising suncare spray, protects againts dna damage, water resistant, easily absorbed - yellowy-orange spray bottle 75ml the product was easy to use being a spray bottle, but some did go into the air not just where you want/need it. it rubbed in very well, although it was greasy on hands after application. the bottle in the car and home haven't been used until the weekend of 26 may 2012 when we had a family trip to the beach. i applied it to the kids as we left home (45mins from beach) and then topped up when we got there. i re-applied every 2hrs as it was so hot and every time the kids were paddling in the sea. it was also used on myself and husband. we used a whole bottle on the 5 of us in the day. despite the constant re-application the children all had burnt arms, my legs were burnt and husbands feet burnt. i will NEVER buy this product again or reccommend it to friends. i have emailed boots and i am awaiting a reply.

“Soltan once for children”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JanCroney on 07/10/2011

purchased soltan once for children. After applying to grandchildren noticed it had gotten on to their clothes ( how would you avoid that anyway) carried on using it because I thought it would wash out. it did not so consequently we had a number of items -some of which were new - ruined. I had also used a towel to dry hands after applying the lotion, which of course is now stained even though I have boiled it. It is impossible not to get this product onto clothes especially young children and babies. Boots need to make sure this product is changed. I would never buy this again (it wasn't cheap) and would tell others to avoid it at all costs.

Guest's Response to JanCroney's Review

This is very true, baby soltan has now ruined between £200-£250 worth of our clothing from a previous holiday. I was so angry with this that i have taken it further and sent all clothing off to boots. And one month later, still no phonecall, email etc. I really thought it would come out once washed, but was very wrong. I am glad i have found this review, as i am not the only one. If this is doing this to clothing, what on earth is it doing to our skin.

“I am very disappointed about my clothes being ruined...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Cartwright on 07/07/2008

I am very disappointed about my clothes being ruined but I don't know how to avoid this other than to look at other products on the market. I have not had this problem with the lower factor Soltan lotions. I would also suggest that if we are not to keep sun protection and use it the next year, can we have use by dates on them.

K3Lyc's Response to 380174_Cartwright's Review

Written on: 28/09/2011

I used the newly launched 'Boots Soltan Once Invisible 8hr Sun Protection Dry-Touch Transparent Suncare Spray SPF25' whilst on holiday in Zante, Greece in Sept 2011.

My husband and I were extremely dissatisfied when we realised that the above product caused our white swimwear to turn green (if the product had come into contact with clothing) after we'd been in the pool.

The green marks/stains didn't wash out and I have now written a complaint to Boots with the hope of getting my money back for purchasing the Solton product at £17.49, reimbursement for the alternative sun spray that I bought on holiday for 19.40Euros and pennies to buy new swimwear.

I love Boots and there was absolutely no problem with the sun protection this product provided, it was just so damaging to clothing.

I hope that Boots are able to resolve my dispute and put things right quickly and efficiently.

“Im going to put most of my General Comments in here. I...”

written by welshgirl44 on 27/05/2008

Im going to put most of my General Comments in here. I went to Paris in the summer and It was getting hot and I thought I'd put my suncream on(as you do). I had the squeeze bottle, I squeezed it on and slathered it over. I first noticed it wasn't absorbing. After 10-ish minutes, and I'm not joking-it started to melt on my skin! It started trickling down my arms and seeping on to my jeans,
Also as some other reviewer has said-it did stain my clothes, a lot. I know have a vest-dress that is now stained a mild yellow under my arms and near where my arms would hang. Thats a thirty quid top I wore once and won't be getting back. It also, after melting off my skin, did not protect me and I got quite bad sunburn(I know it melted but protecting is the point).
