We have a new Barrats ECO home in Bristol. The walls consist of structural insulated panels. comprised of high performance rigid urethane insulation, sandwiche.d between 2 sheets of oriented strand board. No insurance company would insure our contents and was refered to a specialist company.Because I have motor insurance with Admiral I contacted them re contents insurance. 1)the rep was not deterred by the above. 2)He spent time evaluating the above re fire . Refering as necessary to the underwriters. He was polite, sincere and determined to evaluate the above.ALL OTHERS COULD NOT BE BOTHERED. Given that many new build houses are now using Timbered panels I could not understand why.it seems all the computers who advise insuranccompanies still have bricks and mortar only. Well done ADMIRAL PS and the price was fair.and I got a discount.

Boiler breakdown cover is included in my Home and Content cover. That's fine. I asked if I ever had to call out some one for the repair will I be penalize following year premium? The answer was don't know. I didn't know weather I should have a separate cover for it.

Having received my renewal notice from my previous provider with the normal massive hike in premium for auto renewal I decided to go onto a comparrison website to explore alternative providers. I was drawn towards Admiral based on the headline cost but also because I recognised the brand. I went onto their website which was very slick and asy to navigate. It became appaarent that not only could they beat the quote of my current provider by some margin the level of cover on offer was an improvement which I saw as a bonus. I did telephone their helpdesk with a small query which was resolved very quickly by a very helpful and knowledgeable member of staff. All in all glad I switched and am very happy.

I have Admiral 'emergency' boiler cover. My boiler failed on Sunday and since then it has been an absolute farce. First they sent an engineer who seemingly had no idea of how a boiler works. Since then I simply can't get in touch with anyone at Admiral who can tell me what is going on. If you have an inquiry, you need to speak to the 'claims department'. Problem is, you can't be put through to the claims department. You have to wait for them to call you within the next 4 or 5 hours. Even then, they call for all of two rings. 3 TIMES I haven't been able to answer their calls even though I have my phone with me. They just leave a message asking for you to call them back. Even though that is impossible, you have to make ANOTHER phone call appointment for them to call you. This is supposed to be an emergency service. My wife has anemia and she gets very cold. Admiral have left us with no heating for over 3 days so far. Lets be real, I could have got a plumber to fix it two days ago. I have lost days to Admiral, but unfortunately, Admiral just don't care!! If I wanted to buy a service, I would be put through to someone straight away. As I need to make a claim, they are not willing to speak to me.

We chose the Admiral home insurance cover through a well know price comparison website, as it appeared to offer good value and cover for the money. After moving home two months ago we telephoned Admiral to insure us for our house move and to change the address. We had been in our property for about a week and we were burgled. On telephoning Admiral, they claimed that they had no notification of our move, and told us that we had not changed the address on our policy. They have told us that they would send us a copy of the transcript of our telephone conversation with them for the sum of £10. This was over a month ago, and we are still waiting for this to arrive. They have also charged us 36 pounds for cancelling our policy with them. Do not trust anything that these guys tell you over the phone, they are dishonest.

Bought Home Inurancew Policy online/phone, but immediately discovered it difficult to find relevent documentary contract information regarding Admin charges via online web page. Had to ring customer services (chargeable)as no facility to e-mail regarding home insurance), to ask for details of relevent charges, but even customer service, and even their taff were not sure where this information was available. Eventually discovered that to make changes to policy would cost £19.50, to cancel within 14 days would cost £25 and over 14 days £49.50, and these were only the admin charges. I canceled policy within 2 days days as I felt that this information had not be readily accessable and communicated pre contract, but they still applied a £25 admin charge and I am still waiting for the refund of card payment 6 days later for something which should take minutes or even seconds. I have registered complaint but Admiral have issue deadlock letter without fully answering or investigating I feel all aspects of complaint. Matter will be referred to Financial Ombudsman. Please avoid this company, I went to another company who were fully open and transparent regarding contract , didn't apply admin charges and were just as competitive.

Words cannot describe their attitude towards customer service. The conversation was as slippery as an eel with the Admiral representatve looking for all excuses to wriggle out of their contract. We recently had some work carried out to the kitchen with flaking paint appearing on the wall. The builders don't know if it is damp or a broken pipe. Anyway the floor and the wall is wet. On lifting the new laid Rhino flooring to inspect the floor the the Lino got ripped. If its damp they won't cover. If it is pipes they want me to pay £250.00. They don't want to know about the flooring as this was done whilst inspecting the damp floor. It has to be bundled in with the claim. I was told that I could be black marked if I claimed which will increase my household insurance in the future. I could not understand this remark . It beggars belief. I spend over £800 as well as this insurance on two cars. Let me say that I will take all my business elsewhere in future.

A dreadful company. In the event of our house been destroyed they used every trick under the sun to deny liability even though it was in black and white. They have destroyed phone conversations that would prove that we have been telling the truth. They will do whatever it costs to get out of a policy and they will not care one iota if you are on the street living in derelict surroundings. It is days before Christmas and we are technically homeless and its all because of Admiral. They assume that people are weak and then look for a reason however small to reject a claim. They will not respond to any fact you put to them and instead respond with false information. Trust me please if you have any sense do not trust this company and be equally aware of the reviews stating excellent service with 5 stars. This is what they do trust me I am at the financial Ombudsman as we speak. You will understand when you are subject to making a claim. This when you will wish you would of listened to me. Our house has been completely destroyed by fire and they do not care in the slightest. We will fight to the end but itis rough what they subjected us to absolutely disgraceful.

To be fair Admiral have generally always been very helpful over the phone. The customer serivce department are quite helpful and polite. The price of insuring your home or car is competitive and what i thought at the time of taking out 3 polices good vaule for money. Ever heard the saying a great first date not so good husband/wife. Well i beilve that sums up Admiral very well. As soon as i made a claim on my home insurance, they then became unhelpful, uncontactable and unwilling to cooperate. I waited 60days before managing to get hold of there claims department to chase up my claim, to which they accused me of saying that the property had had subsidence. They then requested additional information which i proivded to which they then claimed was incorrect and requsted more. You never take out insurance to want to claim on it more of peace of mind knowing you'll be covered if anything happens. No one plans to have a brust pipe, mould growing due to damp and no one plans to have to throw away half the contents of their bedroom. Well in the case of Admiral you do, and you will treated as a liar until you and prove otherwise! What happened to treating customers fairly? Honestly a very disappointing experience.. I would no longer recommend the companys insurance!

When the storms occurred last winter we had sever water damage in our roof we called the insurance company and they came and viewed the property from the street and said not covered. This incident has meant our premium has doubled. I questioned the increase and it maybe also our area and they could give me a discount. I told them to stick it I have a another insurance company for a third of the price. Not worth picking up the phone as firstly they will not cover any issues and then they will charge you for the hassle to them.

What a waste of 20 minutes. Online insurance £360 for cover with 30-45 days away from home. On phone price quoted £480 because I will be more than 30 days away from home? Rip off.

Never again. I always shop around for any new insurance policy and this year was no different for our buildings and contents insurance. I spend ages on the comparison websites and generally end up with a good deal, paying less than the previous year. This year Admiral kept coming up with competitive quotes so I clicked through to their website thinking I would be able to buy the policy online. Oh no.....you have to call them. This is where the fun starts. I fully expected them to to run through the policy details and confirm everything before I could part with my hard earned money. 41 minutes later Though I was still on the line racking up my mobile phone bill nicely. The guy on the phone was very polite, but spoke at 100mph and if I had £1 for every time he told me what my policy was going to cost, but not until they'd tried to tempt me with something else I really didn't want and said no to AGAIN, well....I'd have enough to cover the £7.50 extra on my mobile phone bill this month! Looking back, I should have put the phone down and gone elsewhere or at least told the Admiral representative to skip all the sales rubbish as I wasn't interested in anything else and to cut to the chase a lot quicker! I won't be renewing with Admiral again based on this year's experience and I certainly won't be calling them again! Unless you want a nice long listen (I won't call it a chat as you really can't get a word in edge ways) with someone from Admiral which ends up costing you money for the pleasure of listening to their sales and upgrading tactics, steer clear!!

the sales line is free though?

The reason they get you to call them is so that they can trip you up later if you make a claim. They record all the calls (all insurers do) and they ask you ambiguous questions about your cover (like 'how much would your contents be worth if you turned your house upside down' - I mean, come on!) Then, if you make a claim they'll use the recording to try and trip you up if you've been a bit vague. Admiral are utter scoundrels. Hateful, dishonest opportunists. How their employees can sleep at night is beyond me.

This company is terrible. We put in a claim after a fire. They've hounded us with questions, and tried to bully us into accepting a low settlement. Their publicity and policy wording is opaque and confusing. They try and trip you up at every turn. And they take ages to get anything done. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! Read what other people say about them on the car insurance reviews on this site. They are horrible. All we want is our house back after the fire and some money for the smoke damaged and lost contents. They're treating us like criminals. AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE.

I picked these guys after a quote from a comparison web site, the quote was very very very competitive. BUT you can't buy this online you have to phone them up and then they go through all the questions they didn;t ask on their website and finally come back with a quote that has risen by 50%. A waste of 40 mins of my life while someone tries to justify this staggering increase. The whole thing felt like sharp practice to me so after this amount of dishonesty I've decided I'd rather pick a company with some proven integrity and I won;t be wasting my time with these guys again. NOT EVER.

Had the same experience, I was going to save £40 on my previous insurer, but not told in initial phone call that my Rolex watch needed valueing at a cost of £45. This now left me worse off, as previous insurer never asked for this, I should have been told this before paying for the policy.

A week in and I haven't heard a thing. No phone call, e-mail or documents via the post. Getting through to their sales team takes 2 seconds, however I've been on hold for 30 minutes for customer services and yet nothing. Avoid these jokes.

Tried to claim for damage to contents, it was the usual maze of phone menus that took me first to motor insurance claims, then to household, then to india car insurance then back to uk home insurance. 20 minutes later aig got through and it was nothing more than a guy who filled out the forms and said someone would contact me. Next morning someone did call me and said I had insurance with another company and they would contact me directly. 2 weeks later I received a claim form from a company i`d never heard of. By that time I couldnt be bothered and replaced the damaged item myself.
They now sent me a renewal letter and the price has increased £200 from last year. Now looking elsewhere.

Chose Admiral because it was good value for money. However, they sent me someone else's policy schedule, with their name, address and value of their contents! Mine was missing, so presuambly they also sent that to the wrong person. Data protection, what data protection?! Sent it back with a letter complaining and never even got a reply, never mind an apology. Fortunately I haven't had to have any other dealings with them, but that alone is enough to prevent me using them again.

I wish that I had read this before we too out insurance with them. We too are in going to have a legal battle to get compensation for a burglary that admiral will not pay out for.Why can these rip-off merchants be allowed to sell insurance?
