“I want to shoot that bloody bulldog !”

Written on: 26/12/2013 by Dance2drop (1 review written)

Son and Daughter-in-law made a claim after the 1st storm and heavy rainfall at the end of October. Part of their ceiling collapsed with all the rainfall and that was right at the start of November 2013. Somebody came & inspected the damage, but guess what - no work has ever been carried out. Now with a storm the other day and another one due tonight (December 26th) things are not going to improve. They have to have a bucket at the top of the stairs permanently. This company is a total… Read Full Review

“Poor service, fob-off response”

Written on: 21/10/2013 by PayUpoNo (2 reviews written)

Recently had my renewal notice. Price has increased by 50%. Checked comparison sites, and find Churchill quoting the price before the increase. So there is a 50% penalty for renewing, and you would be better off applying from scratch. Don't do that, though, if you think you will ever want to make a claim. My ceiling collapsed. An hour waiting on the phone, and then fobbed off with a complete refusal to settle. Not interested in the building or damaged contents. If you check their website… Read Full Review

“Appalling Company”

Written on: 07/09/2013

I was broken into on the 21st July this year and Churchill have been appalling. I've had to phone them almost daily, I've had 2 assesors out and one made me sign a statement, I've been made to feel like I am a criminal. I've complained and they feel they've finalised my complaint even though my claim has not been settled. I've been told that the claims assessor is too busy to phone me. I am at the end of my tether with them, all I want is my possessions replaced and they are trying whatever… Read Full Review

My 93 year old mother's bungalow has subsidence.Eventually after 2 years it is being fixed, but with one problem after another. And 1 builder sorting it. My mother is having to stay with me, and so she has to climb stairs.I am awaiting operation for cancer, and they know all this, but there has been one problem after another. They just do not care. Just want your money. Their quote of 3 weeks is now over a month and nowhere near done. To top it all, she received a renewal which had on it that… Read Full Review

“Claim free loyal customers penalised ”

Written on: 19/04/2013

I've had home insurance with Churchills for 3 years without claim. Despite my loyalty plus having car insurance with them, my renewal schedule was more than double it was last year!! I went on the internet to compare prices and discovered to take out the same exact policy with Churchills but as a new customer it was almost £300 cheaper… Read Full Review

“No reward for claim free, loyal customers.”

Written on: 13/04/2013

I have been with Churchill for years, yet every year my renewal comes through, it is more than the previous year. This is despite the fact that I have 9yrs claim free history! Why not reward people who do not make claims and drive up the renewal premiums for those that do? Greed, that's why… Read Full Review

“Beware of automatic renewal!”

Written on: 06/02/2013 by jimsusan (1 review written)

My home insurance was due for renewal on 1/2/13. I took it out with a different company to Churchill as I had obtained a better quote. Lo and behold when I returned from holiday I find that Churchill have 'assumed' that I would be staying with them and put in place an automatic charge against my credit card. When I queried this with them and explained that at no time had I authorised an 'automatic renewal' they said that it was part of their 'on-line' system and that if I hadn't wanted this I… Read Full Review

“Renewal Schedule Costings Scam”

Written on: 03/01/2013 by SamMaund (1 review written)

I've just received Churchill's Home insurance renewal premium offer, with 6 years NCD, of £693.24. Entered exactly the same details as on the renewal notice into Money supermarket - Churchill's offer was £341.32. Phoned up Churchill, they offered £346.62. The adviser was unable to explain the 100% price difference but did say that this is why it's best to check yourself. Imagine if I was too elderly, frail or otherwise unable to check. Have decided not to renew with them...... … Read Full Review

“No problems”

Written on: 26/08/2012 by manic_monkey (1 review written)

I was with Churchill for 2 years and made two claims, one for storm damage and one when I put a nail in a central heating pipe. Churchill covered me on both occasions and both claims settled hassle free. The only problem I had was that it takes a long time to get through to the call centre when making a claim… Read Full Review

“Absolutely Rubbish”

Written on: 02/08/2012 by szonkie (1 review written)

Just called as our over is broken the front door glass fell out and the oven is faulty, we have 10 years no claims and was told we are not covered what a laugh. I then asked about our glass windows which the seals are burst due to the weather I guess and condensation is now inside them, again they cant do anything, so why am I PAYING them...we have paid over £3500 pounds in the duration and have never claimed a thing, cancelled immediately and found out the charged me to cancel, STAY AWAY from… Read Full Review

Beeceegee's Response to szonkie's Review

Written on: 11/09/2012

I would not expect either of these events to be covered by insurance (well just possibly the oven glass, but they would have to be in a really good mood that day!)

Double glazing doesn't last forever, Our conservatory units (all 13 of them) have "gone", ie condensation and scum build up inside them. They are about 15 years old. It's just what happens - especially on a south facing aspect. Normal wear and tear.

“Churchill Disgusting Service”

Written on: 31/07/2012 by Crostonblue (1 review written)

I took out building and contents insurance with Churchill in November 2011, knowing that I live on a flood plain I was conscious of 2 questions on the Churchill online system, these were - 1. To the best of your knowledge has your property suffered from flooding in the last 10 years? 2. Is your home currently suffering from flooding or at risk of flooding? Q1 was easy as the last time the house was flooded was in 1987, Q2 was the one I wanted clarifying so before I continued the process I… Read Full Review

Today i have received a unsolicited letter from churchill with big letters "50% OFF until the 1st of July. Letter says insurance for your building and content on my post code just under £200! Great sounds like a good deal! Thought well i give them a call despite my busy schedule. After giving them all my details and answering all those "small print questions" she gave me a price of over £400?? hmmm same size of house same post code? How is that possible i ask... she says well the letter is… Read Full Review

“root damaged drains - not covered”

Written on: 13/03/2012 by misty233 (1 review written)

Just to reinforce the message left by the previous reviewer. We've just had the weekend from hell with our drain which went from a little blockage to full scale root damage, collapsed drain and walls and pavements being dismantled. Churchill's reponse? Not covered, it's accidental damage. Now if the tree had fallen onto the drain, I could understand this. If you have bushese or trees near your drains - do not go near this company… Read Full Review

“Churchill do not cover tree root damage to drains”

Written on: 12/01/2012

We contacted Churchill over Christmas as we had a blockage in the soakaway to our septic tank. We had a similar problem a number of years ago and it cost £2300 to fix as we had to have part of our soakaway fixed due to the tree root damage. This was all covered by our buildings insurance. When I spoke to Churchill they said that I wasn’t covered for this because I didn’t take out ‘accidental cover’ with them. How tree roots can be described as accidental I do not know. It is a force of… Read Full Review

“Huge premium rise after no claims”

Written on: 20/12/2011 by chericbaker (11 reviews written)

We used to have all our insurance policies with Direct Line but despite almost never claiming they pushed us away with huge premium increases. Strangely Churchill (same ownership as DL) was the one we switched to for house & contents insurance. At the first renewal (no claims) Churchill wanted much more but got reasonable when I phoned. The second renewal (no claims again) was different - they asked for 65% more premium and when I phoned would not budge, and had no other explanation than… Read Full Review

“Be careful when cancelling an auto-renewal”

Written on: 12/12/2011 by gilesjuk (3 reviews written)

I phoned up to cancel an auto-renewal as I had taken out cover with Direct Line (I swap between the two as they always bump up the renewal). A few weeks later the schedule turned up and I noticed the money had gone out of the bank. So I phoned up and told them to cancel it as I had already told them to cancel it. I've now been charged a cancellation fee for cancelling a policy I didn't want and told them I didn't want! So if you call up to cancel a renewal I would check and double check and… Read Full Review

It is brilliant that Simon Taylor has taken the time and patience to tell the world what really goes on behind an honest citizen fighting to get claim honoured.
