“Higher prices than others”

★☆☆☆☆

written by robflamm on 27/02/2013

Two local Tesco Filling Stations (Dumfries) are obviously not aware of the saying Every little helps, as they currently have their fuel price at 2p per litre higher than branded fuels. When queried why this was so I received no answer. If you use a contact us form you have to enter phone numbers. This is done because an e-mail reply is written proof, whereas a phone call can easily be denied.

“Price difference from pump to kiosk ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 28/10/2012

I Have just come home from Tesco where I have just put fuel in my car. When I placed the fuel pump back into its holder it registered £30.01 yet when I went to pay in the kiosk it had risen to £30.02! I did query this with the attendant who just said "yes it does happen sometimes but it's just the pump" . Just wondering how many other times this has happened and how many other .01p "jumps" there have been.

“Tescos faulty pumps ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MIKE1966uk on 25/10/2012

I filled up £15 worth of petrol , my cars needle was in reserve , when I drove off my car was still in reserve !!! Complained at the desk about this and was handed trading standards phone number which I rang and told them about . They said this couldn't happen -- I said I could be a faulty pump . Reading a lot of comments on the Internet tells me that this does happen and the consumer is out of pocket ! I will never get my petrol again from tescos !!!!!! When I usually full up £15 worth the needle just passes the first bar !!! Very angry about this , might have through £15 in the air !!! Thanks tescos !! Mike --- pump 2 petrol

As I have already posted a comment elsewhere about this issue, I can only re-iterate: On some cars with electronic senders, they require a certain amount of fuel to move out of the reserve and back in to a position that registers an amount in the tank. I honestly couldn't say what the amount is for each vehicle, just that my VW Caddy needle didn't move after a £10 top up from being in reserve, but after a chat with a mechanic and a further £5 at another garage, the needle moved up to the 'correct-ish' position on the dial. If you think a pump is faulty you should report it to trading standards straight away, or have your tank drained to see the amount that's really in there. Or both.

MUST BE A VERY SMALL TAN YOU HAVE ON YOUR CAR 1966 uk. WITH PRESENT COST OF PETROL AT £6.30 AVERAGE, YOU ARE ONLY PUTTING JUST OVER 2 GALS OF FUEL IN YOUR TANK. I SHOULDN'T THINK THAT THAT MUCH FUEL IS GOING SHIFT YOUR GUAGE NEEDLE THAT FAR. IN FACT IT WOULD BE HARDLY NOTICEABLE.

“GREAT”

★★★★★

written by on 18/07/2012

here in Basildon, Essex is always the cheapest price. Never had a problem with this petrol as misfiring or malfunction. In fact Tesco gets the petrol from the same source as the big companies.. if anyone has problems maybe they just dont realise that the FUEL FILTER has to be changed once every year. But the majority of people dont even know that their cars have oil and water in the engine!

“Tescos Ipswich”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/04/2012

Had to fill up a courtesy car today so initally filled up at and Esso garage with £7 and this changed the estimated miles left by 120miles. Later the same day we decided to put in another £7, this times at Tescos. You could feel that there was no petrol going in until the very last moment and although we paid for £7 worth the estimated milage and the petrol guage didn't move at all. Although the staff were quite helpfull and checked the pump, they said there wasn't a fault. Sensible to always check there is petrol flowing in as I never thought this problem could occur. Luckily it was only £7 and not a lot more !!

The staff checked the pump, therefore fuel did go into the car. No problem occurred with the pump system. The only problem is your judgement.

“Water in fuel”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 01/04/2012

Picked up 24 litres of unleaded from Tesco Extra in Swindon on 21/03/12. On driving up the first hill after the refuel, the car hesitated a bit but cleared. This repeated once more on my way home. The next day it happened a few more times, so I contacted my dealer as I was due a service soon anyway. The problem got steadily worse and the dealer identified a misfire on one or more cylinhders when cornering or going uphill. (I had thought that it might be something to do with the CVT drive on my Jazz). As the car was under warranty, Honda UK required the dealer to check the ignition side first, then the fuel. On draining the tank, they found globules of water in suspension and this is what had caused the misfiring. It could only have come from the Tesco fuel as the problem had only started on that day after the refuelling. After flushing the system with compressed air and filling with 'decent' fuel, the car runs perfectly again. The bill for this was £365 including the new fuel. Tesco have passed my complaint on to their insurers, so watch this space. The dealer has kept the sample of fuel drained off for later analysis if needed. If Tesco do not play ball, I will pursue the matter through the Small Claims Court. I doubt that I'll use Tesco fuel again in a hurry.

“Tesco Petrol Prices”

★★☆☆☆

written by green2020 on 15/03/2012

Tesco in Trowbridge Wiltshire is always expensive, particularly when they have their spend £50 in store and get 5p off a litre. The next local station called "Apple" (an Irish Firm), always charges 0.5p less than Tesco, but uses Tesco as the benchmark. Then there is a BP garage which is always charges more than anyone else and Tesco use them as the benchmark (1 mile radius is used to set prices). 5 miles away is Morrisons along with Esso, both in Warminster Wiltshire and always the cheapest in the county. So, i make sure that i either fill up at Morrisons or Esso (The people who run Esso in Warminster are really nice as well) Bear in mind also, that the quality of the fuel at the Supermarket is poor, so consider this, paying a little more at a BP, Shell or ESSO, should give you more miles per litre than a Tesco litre, and in the long run the BP, Esso or Shell fuel should cost you less as a result of improved engine performance and ignition point. There is a false economy therefore, that Supermarket petrol is value for money (except for Tesco of course), but with Tesco's high price strategy and poor quality fuel, you end up paying way over the odds for a litre of fuel. So, go to the BP or Shell garage and get good quality fuel, it may cost a few pennies more but will save you in the long run.

“PUSHING UP PRICES”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 14/03/2012

Tesco in Buckingham are pushing up the prices of fuel in the town. They are always the first to put their prices up, and then everyone else follows. Buckingham is now about 5p more expensive per litre than surrounding towns. This is a rip off, and I no longer use Tesco. Anyone in Buckingham reading this, please join me in boycotting Tesco fuel.

“GARBAGE.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JustinHammond2001 on 18/10/2011

This petrol station should open at 6 am in the morning but doesn,t open till 7 am. The sign on the roundabout says 6 am How misleading. I purchased fuel the other day and my car has started misfiring. Tried a different petrol station and no problem. Dirty or water contaminated fuel. The staff would rather chat away than serve you. They keep the customers waiting till their conversation is finished. No jet wash either not impressed at all.

Hi There, I to have had issues with Tesco fuel. I filled my car up on the 7th of September (£72)Tesco Tring road Aylesbury. The day after I filled up, the car conked out whilst traveling home from work that night. It started after a few minutes so thought it a bit wierd but carried on. A few days later it conked again whislt going to work in the morning but wouldnt start. My car is in the prosess of being repaired and so far im at £300+ (not including the half a tank of fuel that needs to be dicarded) and still not finished. If the problem hits my injectors im looking at a bill of over £1000. Again my fuel was like

Have you contacted Tesco's to make a claim??? I only ask as we currently have the same problems - filled up our tank with Tesco Diesel in Leyland, Lancs and within a few miles the car cut out and we ended up stranded on the hard shoulder - our garage has now found that the fuel tank is full of sludge and he is 100% certain that could only have come from the last time we filled up as we would have had problems much sooner if not - it already damaged at least 1 injector - car will be fixed tomorrow and will get final bill then - my hubby spoke to Tescos customer service who were very reassuring and told us to fill in the forms and they would make a decision in 14 days - after reading reviews on the internet im not confident we will get any money back at all - would be interested to see how you get on too

“A few years ago I stopped at the Tesco petrol station...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 23/04/2011

A few years ago I stopped at the Tesco petrol station in Gatwick to fill up on unleaded petro. Approximately half a mile down the road my car broke down and upon the garages inspection the engine was filled with diesel fuel and not the petrol. I possesed the reciet of my visit, which clearly stated I had purchased Unleaded Petrol and recieved a written statement from the garage stating they cleared the tank of diesel fuel. I appoached Tesco's through a dear number of letters and numerous phone calls, asking for an explanation for their apparent re-filling mistake of the pump I used and a claim for re-imbursion. They denied both my evidence and that of the garages. Without the funds to take legal action, as a result I was faced with the cost of the full tank of incorrect fuel and a hefty bill for over 300 pounds from the garage for the costs of cleaning the fuel tank. I have never used Tesco's fuel services again nor shall I ever. This distugsting service from Tesco's displays a clear disrespect for their customer's and an unwillingness to rectify their own blatant mistakes.

Prices are always highest in the area and protective gloves are never available, despite numerous complaints. The assistant said she was fed up of fielding the complaints as management will not do anything and advised I contact the manager direct - I will in future buy my fuel (about £150 per week) from someone who cares about customers.

Just waiting on a response.(I wont be holding my breath) Apparently they have there own stamp on the fuel so will know if its theres or not. My problem is that I have been told that no one else has had any issues or complaints. My car is an Audi A4 Avant 2.0TDI 2007. It has always been fully maintained with a full service history. (so not the cars fault).

If you could offer any more light on this I would be gratefull.

Best Regards,
Kevin

“Tesco esso filling stations are very expensive....”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 06/03/2011

Tesco esso filling stations are very expensive. whether people go their because they can accululate clubcard points or redeem a voucher entitling them 5p off if they spend £50 is a false dicotomy. It still works out expensive. Was told that their esso express filing stations are not classed as Tesco filling stations so they refused my 5p off a litre voucher which i thought was decepted and dishonest. I was told i would have to go to a tesco filling station, which were two and quite far away. Not many good ones but if there are please let us all know.
