“Terrible reaction ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Tristenv115 on 02/12/2021

When I first used this it was ok then I woke up big red raised marks under my eyes very sore and felt like it was burning. I couldn’t believe it was from the high end YSL concealer. I changed moisturisers and day creams to no avail. Then I realised it must be the concealer I then stopped using it and although my face is still sore I’m only using E45 cream on it it’s very slowly healing. I dare not wear any makeup at this moment. Im so annoyed as it’s not cheap so thought I was buying a great product. I think YSL should inform buyers it’s not for sensitive skin.

I really love this product and this brand. I have been using this concealer and I was delighted. It was really great and it covered dark circles.

“Used YSL TE for 20 years and suddenly extremely allergic!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 13/10/2017

I have used Yves Saint Laurent touché eclat every day for 20 years and have suddenly developed an allergic reaction to it! I looked online to see if anyone else had complained about a change in ingredients or similar sudden problem and was amazed to find all these reviews describing exactly the same reaction. I suddenly got very puffy red itchy eyes and developed extremely dry red sore skin exactly where I use it. I too made the mistake of continuing to use it to try to cover this up as it never occurred to me it could be caused by a product I had sworn by and used for so many years. It seems perhaps from these reviews it's an allergy that can suddenly develop though this seems very odd after so long. I suffered for months and the only thing that has finally cleared it up is a 0.1% hydrocortisone cream called Dermacort which I would highly recommend to anyone suffering the same problem. It worked almost immediately and was fine to use under the eyes. However it kept coming back until I finally realised it was the touché eclat and notably it went the second I stopped. It has however left me with much older wrinkly looking skin which I just hope won't last. I'm appalled that YSL do not respond to any reviews like this or warn it is not for sensitive skin given so many people have clearly suffered the same very serious reaction. Apparently By Terry makeup is made by the original creator of TE so I splashed out on Terrybly Densiliss concealer from Space NK which is similar and very good with no reactions. So watch out even those who have been devotees for years like me and stop using as soon as you react!

Wow…. I am currently suffering exactly the same reaction!!
Treated myself just before Christmas, have used years ago and didn’t have any problems?
Didn’t realise it was caused by this until my pharmacist said it was an allergic reaction, then realised was exactly where I had used it, around my eyes, nose & mouth.
Is soo painful….. looks dreadful and is seriously itchy!
As you said the delicate skin around my eyes looks 10 years older!!
I stopped using over 2 weeks ago and every day wake to more itchy lumps….. horrendous!
I finally sent a formal complaint to YSL yesterday, demanding a response…… let’s see what they have to say?
I’ll try the hydrocortisone…. Thanks for sharing x

“Very Allergic to Touche Eclat”

★★☆☆☆

written by Whalenxn401 on 19/02/2016

Wore this item for a number of years and was very pleased with the product. Recently developed very watery irritated eyes which became inflamed with further horrible eczema under each eye and up the sides of the eyes. Very swollen. I did not connect this with Touche Eclat and as previous users have said, I continued to try and cover my sore and unsightly under eye eczema with further applications of touche eclat. This carried on for a couple of months with good days and really bad days. Tried everything and kept changing cleansing products and even went for an eye test and made an appointment with the doctor..... Until one day I came across the touche eclat reviews on-line....bingo. Stopped using. Under eyes and eyes are slowely starting to improve but this may some time for the skin to return to normal. Such a shame as I really enjoyed the product. Have went back to using No 7 and since purchased a clarins product. I have a stock of touche eclat that I have purchased when travelling but I guess I will be throwing in the bin.

“Terribly allergic”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Combsxd59 on 26/07/2015

Bought the product on a flight and within a few hours my eyes were red, swollen and sore. The redness dry flaky skin that followed took weeks to get rid of and I looked like I had 2 bruised eyes. Never had an allergy before but tried twice with product just to make sure but definite allergy.

“How to deal with allergy to Touche Eclat”

★★★☆☆

written by Cixi on 30/11/2013

Like other reviewers, I developed an allergic reaction to Touche Eclat after having used it for several years. I found the best way to deal with the allergy was to stop using the product, and to apply cooked oatmeal porridge (made with water only, not milk, and no salt) to the affected eyelids. Do this at least twice a day, allowing the porridge to sit on the skin for several minutes each time. Rinse it off with warm water and then apply moisturiser (my favourite is Diprobase, which you can buy without a prescription at the pharmacy counter at Boots the Chemists in UK). Until I developed this allergy I thought Touche Eclat was a great product and worth the money I was paying for it. I agree with other reviewers that YSL should warn customers that some people develop allergic reactions to Touche Eclat. I wouldn't recommend it to friends without warning them about my experience.

“Using it for several years”

★★★★☆

written by on 15/02/2013

I've used YSL touche eclat for several years and have never had any problems with it. Actually, the only one is that it runs out too fast! It really covers up dark circles and blemishes and although is a little on the pricey side, i think it's well worth it.

“Nickel allergy beware!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 13/02/2013

I tried touché éclat after seeing lively effects on a friend who used it. I really liked the effect when I used it first off but after a couple of days I developed thickened, dry, red skin under my eyes. I stopped using it immediately and had to apply plenty moisturiser over the next couple of weeks until my skin healed. Then a few weeks later I bumped into a woman who worked in the same hospital as me and she had a terrible rash under both eyes. She told me it was as a result of using touché éclat also and with some probing she had found out that it contained nickel. Both her and I have nickel allergy and certainly would never have tried it in the first place if it had labelled nickel as an ingredient!!

I've used this for a few years now and I'd have to say it's an excellent product. The best I've used! It's long lasting, good colour, and although pricey in my opinion, it's well worth it.

“I was bought Touche Eclat for my birthday just before...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/03/2011

I was bought Touche Eclat for my birthday just before Christmas. It was easy to use and covered where I needed it. I went up to Edinburgh for my birthday and, what I though was because of the cold weather, my eyes became really watery and sore. They were red underneath and so I was using more Touche Eclat to cover it up. Three months down the line and my eyes are even worse, all flaky dry skin and soreness. They water so much that I can't even keep the redness covered up now because it just gets wiped away with the water. I tried all sorts of creams and when they didn't work decided that I needed to go to the doctor. While I was waiting for an appointment I looked up my symptoms on the internet and it looked like it could be eczema, which I have never had in my life. The other morning, while I was applying a tonne of Touche Eclat to cover the redness, it occurred to me that it could be that as the soreness started around the same time as I got it. I had a look at some reviews and quickly realised that the stuff I had been covering up with was the cause of it! Because I had put it down to the cold weather to start with, it took me three months to figure out what it was. It seems a bit obvious now, but I just didn't think it could have been this expensive product. In that time my eyes have got so bad that they look older than my mums! I am really upset that this product is still on the market after so many people have reported reactions. My face is a mess and sore and I don't know how long it will take to clear up.

I would also like to add that my reaction is not because I let the brush become contaminated as my eyes became sore from the first application. I would not recommend this product to anybody as it is too expensive to buy and then find you react to it. Look at the reviews first and find an alternative.

“Yves St Laurent Touche Eclat is a great little...”

★★★★☆

written by kirsty162 on 01/03/2011

Yves St Laurent Touche Eclat is a great little product. My make-up essential is always concealer before anything else after years of sun damage to my eyes from wearing thick, large glasses that created permanant dark circles that cover alot of my upper face.

I have an awful feeling that some of the bad reviews that claim it doesn't work as it is marketed are mainly down to poor or mis-application of the product. The concealer itself cleverly works to match your skin hue (which is why I think this product only comes in about three different shades) and glides on nicely using the brush.

If you try blending it in with your fingers by smudging around the area, you are in reality wiping it away as well as possibly damaging the delicate under-eye skin. If you dispense a small amount, brush it over the area and blending by using patting motions you're going to see a difference. It's light reflecting properties means it is a highlighting tool; great for diminishing those lines and creases and brightening up your whole face.

In all I would recommend this product. As it comes with a hefty price tag for the amount you purchase it is probably worth visiting your local drug store that supplies testers. This way you can check the colour match and also ensure that you don't have any allergic reaction to the product (and reading some of the reviews, this seems to be unusually common.) I have not myself experienced any skin soreness or irritation from Yves St Laurent Touche Eclat, but if you have sensitive skin it is better to be safe than sorry.
If you test it first and like it you will not be disappointed. One of these concealers lasts me about 2/3 months of daily use so I can't afford it all the time, but always splash out if I know I have a special occasion around the corner.

I hope this was helpful. :)

Never had allergies before until using this product. I now have very red swollen eyes with scaly skin. Always used No7 before this and will be going back to it once my eyes are better. Only wish I had read the reviews before using it, as this is the second time I used it not realising that it was this that was causing the soreness so kept reapplying. Very disappointed as an expensive brand.

i also switched to No 7 and had an allergic reaction again - when I returned the product with an explanation I was told that YSL make the No 7 version (no other lines of their make-up). Through trial and error I have found Lancôme is great - expensive, but great,

I have been using Touche Eclat for several years but last autumn when I developed a dry, scaly patch under one of my eyes, and noticed some swelling, I switched to a different concealer from Mac. I was never certain it was Touche Eclat responsible, however, last week I did use it again and after one day I had the same reaction and this time round under both eyes! It has been five days now and it is only just beginning to go away. I would advise anyone using this for the first time to be aware they may get an allergic reaction.

I have never had any allergies and suddenly have developed horrific dry, red, scaly patches under my eyes, exactly where I had applied the touche eclat. Have been using the Dior version previously but swapped when it ran out. Still haven't cleared the rash, just hope it goes away soon. Glad I found others have been experiencing the same problems

written by on 04/11/2010

Having used this product occasionally for around 18 months, I suddenly developed an acute allergic reaction to it. It took a while to identify the cause, but the location of the rash is precisely where i put the touche eclat brush. The results are very red, uncomfortable, itchy and ugly and it's making me feel rubbish! I wouldnt recommend this product to anyone, because of the risk they may have the same reaction. I've never had an alergic reaction like this before. I had assumed that YSL stuff would be hypo-allergenic. Stay away!

Had horrible allergic reaction to this while on my honeymoon - not best timing! I had been using it for a couple of weeks but suddenly became sensitized to it. Made under my eyes really puffy and wrinkled looking so, of course, I put on more without realising it was root of problem. Developed horrible, scaly eczema the next day which took over a month to go away once I stopped using the product. Got in touch with their customer services but didn't get a reply.

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/02/2010

YSL Touche Eclat gave me the worst skin reaction I have ever had. My eyes swelled, my skin became red and scaly and itchy and it took more than a week to get it back to normal. It is very scary when this happens.
I would not recommend anyone try this stuff as it appears to happen to people who have used it successfully before as well as people trying for the first time. I am not usually prone to allergies so it took me a while to figure out what it was- I even (stupid me) put more on when the first redness appeared, I thought I was covering up a morning after the night before redness initially. That made it ten times worse.
Avoid like the plague is my advice.

I have very sensitive eyes and have reacted very badly to other creams and concealers but never to this!

Yves St Laurent gave me red scaly patches under the eyes make me look 20 years older and has made me considerably depressed and withdrawn from socialising. Even to not wanting to leave the house. Will never use again and would consider legal action.

I found this review very helpful because...I have been using this product for a few years now and at first the results were good. However, I noticed the skin under my eyes became red, wrinkly and swollen not to mention very dry, not knowing what caused this reaction I spoke to my sister about it and she also had the same reaction after using Touche Eclat.
<br/>I have since stopped using it but it has left me with wrinkles that to me appeared over night....
