“Big mistake”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 06/07/2013

I'm 16 and bought a 59 plate one of these when I was 16 and for the first month or so it was good quite fast and had no problems. But since then I've had numerous problems and suddenly I'd gone from being able to get to 60mph out of it and now struggling to get to 40mph. I've had many things replaced with new ones like the rollers etc but it is making no difference. Honestly I'd avoid getting one of these from my experience or if you do buy it brand new.

“Outstanding First Bike!”

★★★★★

written by Harry16 on 02/11/2012

As im 16, i decided that i would like to get around by myself. The only option for this is a 50cc bike or moped. At first, i was unsure about having one, but then the idea grew on me, my mate got a ped, speedfight and i had a go on it and decided that i should go on to get one. I did my CBT and straight after i went and got my Aprilia SR50. I rode it about 20 miles on my first day! Loved it and had it almost a week now, very quick moped, fully derestricted hits about 50 uphill! 55-60 flat if im lucky, but if your thinking about getting one then i would strongly recommend getting one of these!

“2011 Aprilia SR50R”

★★☆☆☆

written by ian54 on 13/02/2012

I purchased my SR50R in June 2011 , its nearly 8 months old, problems to date are knocking /tapping noise from under bike , problem undetermined by dealer stiller occurs, intermittent. I had the bike derestricted because I was fed up with trundling at 25-30 mph once it was run in , now the entire exhaust is rusting , Aprilia will not replace under warranty because it was derestricted, I call that Aprilia copping out. an aftermarket Stainless Steel exhaust will cost £160+ £40.00 fitting , an expense I can do without , so I have opted to respray the exhaust system myself and then sell the bike and save for a used Superbike [Non Aprilia].

“Exhaust is badley made”

★★★☆☆

written by stan.long on 13/10/2011

I bought a sr50 for my daughter in 2008, and in less than one year it required a new exhaust, we thought that this was probably a one off and it was replaced under warranty, however a year and a half later it again requires a new exhaust, it has completely rusted and blowing, and will not pass an MOT. Apprila refuse to admit that the standard exhaust is not fit for use. The moped is great and goes well but the exhaust is a big problem and if we had known about this fault we may not have purchased it.Whether the paintwork is bad or they have used cheap metal to construct the exhaust we dont know, but if you are thinking of buying an sr50 remember that it will cost around £100 a year for a new exhaust.

Aprilia SR is a great sport scooter. Extremely powerful engine leaves all other scooters far behind, even on stock! I've driven now around 4000 kilometers and my friends even more than me and they also love this scooter. It looks great. I have nothing bad to say about this scooter

“I bought my aprilia SR 50 R New from a dealer for 2100...”

★★★★★

written by on 08/01/2011

I bought my aprilia SR 50 R New from a dealer for 2100 GBP... 0 miles obviously, it was restricted to 30mph to begin with and that was ok for the first 200-500 miles.. then i could de-restrict it.

The bike was good even when restricted, good handing, weight, power and brakes!

But... When i got it de-restricted, and put a giannelli extra exhaust on it.. OH MY GOD its just madness... the speed is amazing and with the extra speed the handing is just so much better... its very weird. Also even without a variation kit the "kick" from 0-20 is instant and it just keeps on going! ive hit 50 vert easily.. and i dont know how much faster it went as the speedo only got to 50... but jheez it was fast and it felt fine due to the bit tyres!

I would DEFINITELY reccomend this to anyone... 16 or whatever! Such a great bike and the fuel economy... if you dont ride like a maniac then youll get something like 80 miles for a full tank.. maybe a bit more and the oil... who cares just top it up every few hundred miles.

Overall Excellent bike and i would not have any other one.

Thanks.

A Very Happy Aprillia SR owner

its very good ....great suspension ....it has 16555 km and still no problem...it reaches 80-85 km/h all stock ... very economical with the oil but not with the gasoline :D [3-4L /100km -5 if you go full speed all the way ] should it reach 60mph ...all stock?

“I bought Aprilia SR 50R as new from local dealer. I...”

★★★★☆

written by on 31/05/2010

I bought Aprilia SR 50R as new from local dealer. I enjoy every ride o her, however I have expected faster bike. It is restricted to 30 mph maybe just because of law in Britain. Downhill I can get 40 mph max out of her. By de-restricting I'll lose 2-years warranty, but on the other hand other drivers will stop biping on me as a slow rider. And what's more I have to put some money in it even if it cost me £1.900 new. So I'm not pretty sure what to do, have it de-restricted or swaped for larger engine one? Any1 to help?
Otherwise everything else is fine.

all the new ones a restricted to 30-35, no matter what engine size. Your best bet is just de-restrict it, new sports exhaust cost around 150-200 pounds, but will boost your speed to around 45-50 at least, and if you change rollers and more tuning don't see why you shouldn't get 60-70mph!

My aprilia sr50r 2006 is the fastest moped ive ever been on, i have been clocked at 60mph on flat and this is with a stock engine and just a race exhaust. Downhill ive been clocked near to 80mph. If your looking for a fast moped this is a must buy for you.

★★★★★

written by on 28/03/2010

I bought my aprilia sr50 2008 DiTech 2 months ago and i do not regret it one bit. The scooter is just fantastic and everything about it is perfect, Accept one point, Which is u have to unscrew and take of the front cover to put the 2 stroke oil in, Other then this i love the scooter to bits. The sr50 is very nippy for a scooter and i would recommended it to anyone. The scooter looks very attractive, The build quality of it puts my friends scooters to shame. As for the length of my ownership with my SR50 i have witnessed no problems at all. My SR50 is destricted and i have topped out at 52mph. If you are looking for a scooter this is the one you want!
