“Awful customer experience”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 15/06/2013

Terrible customer support, if there are issues telephone agents can be arrogant and unhelpful. I have called their online customer support about the same issue about 10 times. There is no possibility to raise a case or to escalate a technical issue. Always the response was - check in couple of days if it works. After I got fed up there waas no supervisor to talk to, there was no escalation to raise a profile and all I heard is that it will be passed on but there is nothing they can do.

“YOU WON'T GET YOUR MONEY BACK DON'T USE THIS BANK!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by lebrit on 17/10/2012

Worst bank ever. I've been doing online banking for years and never seen so much incompetence in my life. Why? 1) Put lots of money in account 2) Go online. To make payment I need to register a mobile phone 3) Registering the phone doesn't work, no text messages received. 4) I phone customer service to fix the problem 5) For reasons the customer service agent "is not allowed to explain", I've failed the security check. I am permanently barred from my account until I send in two forms of ID BY POST (no emails for an online bank!!!). NB: this has NEVER happened to me with any other bank so I'm guessing the incompetent agent put the wrong details in his computer. 6) I have to wait for the ID to be processed but no-one is allowed to update me on when this will happen because I am barred from my own account (with lots of savings in it) 7) The "solution" is sent to me BY POST!!! (no emails, again!!!). This takes time and I need my money so I need to take a loan out elsewhere to compensate! 8) No apology "that's our process" and I can't speak to the person responsible for that process. 9) The on duty "manager" cannot do anything to help (what's the point of being a manager if you can't do anything?!).

“Customer Hostile Company”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Redcoat1000 on 15/10/2012

Appalling Customer Service. I stared the process of opening a savings account with Sainsbury's Bank in early September. In mid September I received a letter saying checks were in process and a response would be received in 5 to 10 working days. I called them twice three weeks later and they could not find my documents. gave them a verbal kicking and they went away and magically the account was opened about a week ago. I activated it on line transferred some money over and then the online service would not let me set up a direct debit to my bank account - I was told to phone them. I called and went through a lengthy palaver with an 'assistant' including giving him full details of my passport! He then said he couldn't help and I had to send in two pieces of ID. I gave up at that stage nd ended the call. I tried again today a few days later, and now I cannot even log in - the site will not accept the security information I had previously provided. I then called their 'service centre' and got the usual automated response by a script-driven human stating that I have to send in two pieces of ID and they will then mail me a code. When I get the code I can call them and they will speak to me. This whole process ids painful and appalling. I have never been treated so badly by a financial organisation. My advice to anyone reading this - stay away from Sainsbury's Bank!

“Excellent telephone response”

★★★★☆

written by lederhosen on 18/05/2012

I have had savings in Sainsbury's accounts for a few years now. When you phone, the call gets answered much quicker than with other banks by somebody who is always pleasant and helpful. Most savings accounts seem to offer a temporary bonus, so it's up to you to stay ahead of it.

“Bond”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ellmar on 18/11/2011

etails were taken over the My husband applied for a 2 year bond because of its good rate of interest. Details were taken over the telephone and he was told he would receive a letter of acceptance follower by a "pack" (Why they could not send these together as do other institutions I really dont know)He received 7 days later a letter asking him for more I.D. When he asked why he was told it was because they could not find any record anywhere of a mortgage or loans. We sent the I.D. and returned it the same day. 8 days later no "pack" and no receipt for the I.D. He contacted customer service who said the documents did not go to them but were processed by another department who may have a lot of work on. Meanwhile our money is still in a current account losing interest. How appalling! My husband now wishes he had never seen the name "Sainsburys Bank" Put your money elsewhere!!

“Appalling customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by aaq123 on 27/09/2011

This bank has the most appalling customer service. I have had their credit card for about 4 years and got scammed couple of months ago buying scam malware on my lap top using their credit card. It only amounted to about £51 and I told them on phone about this and they referred me to their disputes dept. Their disputes dept (part of Lloyds banking) want a report from an authorised company that this was a scam. It's clearly showing up in my card transactions that it was a bogus company called "Bogema security" which other people have also been scammed with. A simple Internet search confirms it and I had my friend who is head of IT in a reputable company and who got rid of the virus from my laptop, to correspond with them and confirm it all, yet they want something in writing from an authorised company. Surely it will cost me as much to get a report from an authorised company. I think I have hit a brick wall with them. I then transferred all my balance from that credit card to close my account down with them and now they want interest on amount over £3000 that I hadn't cleared my balance for before transfer of balance. They say if I don't pay their interest it will affect my credit rating. This bank is a nightmare. Avoid at all costs.

“Online banking does not support any browser except ie”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 14/09/2011

Well, I'm just amazed. After a lot of waiting for access code and setting up my banking details over a Safari browser on MacOS (they let me do this on Safari) I was unable to login!!! I tried Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome. I then phoned helpdesk and was told that "they are very sorry but their systems only support ie" Needless to say that I'll be a) finding another credit card provider and b) making sure that they can support the rest of the world without making pathetic excuses... I complained and suggested to them that if their intention is to not support anything but IE, they should make it very clear at the registraton stage. BTW - am not convinced that the problem is the browser and will try windows (have to borrow a PC) but the whole experience was so ridiculous that I had to write it up.

“DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME”

★☆☆☆☆

written by theman25 on 31/08/2011

Applied for a loan with this firm, good credit rating (I checked before applying) and got refused after nearly two weeks of messing around. Got some idiot reading to me off a script about how after ‘careful consideration’ my application has been declined. Just applied with CO-OP finance approved instantly. DO NOT PUT A BLACK MARK AGAINST YOUR NAME AND USE THIS BANK They should stick to selling cabbages and not waste people’s time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10/10 - Sainsbury SHOULD make it clear less than 20% who apply ever get a loan - my experience similar first approved then declined after being referred to a dodgy 3rd party loan company offering not 4.9% but 39.0% loans -AVOID they are far better reputable organisations that will approve you a loan - if Sainsbury want to be mega choosey then suggest all but those with LESS than 2 CREDIT accounts and more than £20k apply!!

“I had a savings account and naively chose sainsburys...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 19/05/2011

I had a savings account and naively chose sainsburys bank. My experience is as follows:
1. put some savings in during 2009 into account paying circa 3%pa
2. put some more in later in 2010
3. contact them in 2011 to confirm what interest was, they said 0.01%. So i asked why and they said after 12 months it will get transferred to the lowest rate and it was in T&C. Fair enough however, my problem with them it that didn't inform me that the year was up (bad customer service if you ask me) and also they paid interest annually so whilst i did review online, it was difficult to see what interest they have been paying the last year as it is paid annually.
My advice - do not trust these muppets

“Just went to open on line a fixed rate saver account...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 02/10/2010

Just went to open on line a fixed rate saver account paying 3% gross for one year. I thought their questions were pretty intrusive - but I ploughed on. At the end of the process they told me they were processing my transaction and I would hear from them. When? Meanwhile, the money I was going to invest languishes in my current account. I can't help comparing this to a similar account (3%/1 year fixed etc) that I opened with Northern Rock 3 days ago. At the end of their process I had an account number and could transfer money to the account immediately. I don't think I'll bother with Sainsburys. I'll just open another Northern Rock account.

My experience was very positive. They did offer the courier service to me at a cost of £49 which I declined. I received the paperwork to sign in 2 days and the money was in my account within 6 working days from the initial application. When I rang the staff with a query they were very helpful. I did read the reviews and was a little worried but I am very pleased to report my dealings have been excellent and I would definately recommend them to my friends.

“I opened an internet saver account with Sainsburys...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by philiphandyhotmailcom on 07/03/2009

I opened an internet saver account with Sainsburys Bank back in November 2008, the interest rate was 4 percent, quite good. But they reduced the rate within 3 days of each BOE rate reduction whereas others reduce on the first day of the next month.

Right now, (March 09), I am receiving 0.75 of a percent, OK, thats inline with other poor instant access accounts, but now I see they are offering 3 percent to new investors in this same account. That is 4 times as much as they give me, and there is no way that they will give this rate to me.

At the same time that I opened the Sainsbury account, I also opened a Tesco internet saver account. Tesco gave a 1.5 percent bonus for the first year. Currently Tesco pays 2.5 percent plus the bonus totaling 4 percent. By the way, unfortunately this bonus is no longer available but 2.5 percent is very good for an instant access account.

You've guessed it, I am moving all but £1 to Tesco. I hope others do the same so Sainsburys lose more from their disgruntled existing customers than they gain from their new hopeful ones.

Savers are having enough of a hard time at the moment without organizations like Sainsburys trying to take advantage of us. Oh, and by the way, have a look at how much interest Sainsburys want to loan your money out......8.1 percent, that is an incredible margin.

Happy hunting savers, hopefully we will have our day..... or maybe we will lose the lot.

“Checked my Sainsbury's credit card account on line...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by d5 on 12/12/2008

Checked my Sainsbury's credit card account on line only to discover credit limit had been slashed in half. Always pay off balance in full. No communication, thought there had been a mistake, phoned up and was told that it was correct and a letter was in the post, good job i hadn't gone to use it in the past few days or i would have gone over my new imposed limit. They deny it has anything to do with the credit crunch, 5 days later still not received any communication from them. Very poor.

“As long as you are making them money by paying...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by portsguy on 29/07/2008

As long as you are making them money by paying interest or by charging lots to the card each month then they are happy, if not they write a general snotty letter more or less telling you that you are a bad customer (I have never missed a payment on any thing ever!) and making you feel small. I needless to say will not deal with them again and neither will I shop at the store bearing hte same name.

“The Sainsburys' bank website is an absolute disgrace....”

★☆☆☆☆

written by bankrev on 08/12/2007

The Sainsburys' bank website is an absolute disgrace. It is not intuitive to use (not overly complicated but just really badly laid out so its not immediately obvious where links are), and offers a very basic level of service compared to other internet banking sites. For this alone I would not recommend it. Good interest rate on internet saver account (time of writing Dec 2007) but terrible website.
