We get a good quality picture from Sky Digital TV, as the picture used to jump every day with NTL TV.

I have not had any issues with customer services as yet.

The monthly magazine is useful… Read Full Review

“I got Sky+ for Christmas and was over the moon. ”

Written on: 29/01/2006 by mac7 (2 reviews written)

I got Sky+ for Christmas and was over the moon.

We spent the best part of a month wasting time on the phone, and with various sky engineers who couldn't have spent longer than 5 minutes telling us we couldn't get it installed as our flat is too high up (second floor!). Subsequent engineers came without ladders or the right equipment. We complained. We were told to try an independent engineer who would charge £150. I protested as I am self employed and had already wasted 2 days hanging… Read Full Review

Written on: 15/01/2006 by pugs (1 review written)

I've been with Sky digital for many years and never really had any major issues. Approx 14 months ago we decided to upgrade our box to Sky+, which was great as we got rid of the video etc. We also decided to take advantage of the Multi room offer. Due to having a conservatory we decided to put one of the boxes in there. Therefore, when my partner wanted to watch football - there was no arguments!!

We have all the channels - which is expensive enough, and obviously we pay an extra £10 per… Read Full Review

I am sick to death of sky.... if only my husband, and to be honest myself, were not so hooked on the history channel and geographic I would have dumped them long ago. they are expensive, unhelpful and want your cash as mentioned here. I wish they did not have the monopoly as I so want to change. after paying by monthly debit for years and years, on a high package price, I cancelled the debit when i broke my hip and would be long term off of work, after two weeks I had a sarcastic letter.... the bad news is you are about to be cut off.... the good news is that if you pay now you can stay..... sounded like it had been written by the office junior trying to be funny. Nothing is funny at the prices they charge!!

Written on: 05/01/2006 by zellka (19 reviews written)

We joined Sky Digital TV several years ago, after NTL. Initially we were very pleased with the service, no complaints at all.
That changed when we decided to go multi-room and get Sky+.
Sky+ is excellent, and it changed our TV viewing; Live pause and the option to record all episodes of a program, were a real plus.

The box however, began to develop a lot of failures just after the guarantee period was over. It would not record; it said it was, but on checking, the program had not actually… Read Full Review

Written on: 03/12/2005 by caltonian (2 reviews written)

I spent some time weighing up whether to go Freeview with PVR or Sky+, and decided to go with Sky. After signing up and taking a day off work to await the ghost engineers, who did phone in the morning to agree an appointment slot, but never even bothered to phone to say they weren't in fact coming, then spending another half a day trying to get through on their "customer service" lines (at 8p minute) being buck-passed from one unhelpful voice to the next ("you'll have to hold 3-4 minutes" =… Read Full Review

Again, no surprise in seeing people moaning about an excellent service. You get a years guarantee on all equipment, after that, yes you have to pay for repairs. Why? Because Sky give you a digibox for free - it's yours to keep even when you leave the service, the same with the dish. Therefore it's YOUR responsibility! It's your choice to pay money for the subscription. I have had my equipment for nearly a year, after the warranty, if the box or dish is damaged, fair enough I will pay… Read Full Review

I am pleased that I am not the only person who has problems with Sky. I conceed that the company does provide an excellent service, but they are geared up for new customers and do not respect existing ones.

Why is it acceptable to pay a £60 call out charge for faults on their equipment? We are paying a lot of money to use their service? In bad weather my dish moved, I did not have a service for 6 weeks and they tried to charge me for repair!

Why do existing customers accept paying double to… Read Full Review

I have been a Sky Digital Customer for the last three years and I have never had a problem with them. The service has been great and I don't think I could ever go back to terrestrial television after having access to such a wide and varied selection of channels.

Sky have a wide choice of Channel packages to suit all budgets-I am subscribed to the Sky World Package which gives me access to all of the channels including Sports and Movies. The interactive services are a joy to use especially… Read Full Review

Written on: 31/05/2003 by Jay. (1 review written)

I brought this box when Sky decided to go onto a digital network service in 1998, called Sky Digital. We got the system fitted in December 1998. Well, since then, it has been hell all the way. The box keeps freezing and this is in the very slight rainy weather we get in Stockport. We have had god knows how many workmen out to see to the box I had enough! In December 2000 They finally re-fitted the system and has worked as normal ever since, with the box still freezing. I pay £40 a month for… Read Full Review

Well I have had Sky for around 4 year and it has been perfect all that time. Only problem is if there is a thunder storm then the singnal can be lost. Also you say "goto hell Sky" and are using NTL:home, well thats still sky rebranded, bet you still watch Sky Sports, One and the movies ;)

Why do existing customers accept paying double to upgrade to Sky+?

I recently tried to leave Sky as I was selling up and moving to live in someone else's property in London (I live in Northern Ireland). They told me I would have to register a change of address (and pay for a re-install) I told them that I was moving into someone else's house and they would probably get a Sky account in their name. They actually called me dishonest over the phone and told me that they would more or less hunt me down and make my friend pay full cost subscriptions of over £300 + vat as I was a previous customer.

You know what? NTL might be a bit slow, Telewest may not provide 100% of the rubbishy channels, Home Choice might not provide all the movie channels, but hell, if it means not giving money to Sky - then that's what I am going to do.

And fyi, just because someone provides an OK service, does not mean you have to accept the poor way they treat you - reading some of the comments in this review really does scare me as to how much like sheep some people can be - dont believe the hype people!

We bought sky + in January 2004 after being with Sky since it first came out. Then we had problems only during very bad weather.

Since changing to sky + we have have had nothing but trouble with the picture freezing, sound dropping out, picture jumping several frames, failing to record, wrong show being recorded.

Since july 2004 we have had 7 sky + boxes, complete deinstall and re-install, new wires and over 15 engneers calling 3 in one week.

Today, 6 Jan 2005, yet another 2 engneer's called said there was no problem, even though we had managed to record the problems and the sky planner showed 2 failed recording's and one stating that it had recorded a sky one programmed but on playback it had recorded another channel. The engineers just walked out doing nothing. Sky customer care just don't care and my huband has now been on the phone for over 40 minutes.

I am now trying to convince my husband to cancel our account with sky and just get a topbox - and I am the one who watches sky the most as I have a chronic illness and am unable, at times, to get out.

That is how feed up I have become with sky - husband has just informed me that a sky engineer will be coming this Sat - oh great joy, yet another wasted day waiting for sky again.

I got my Sky+ box from www.skycards.net 1 year ago. We live in Germany and Sky could not supply direct/ It is the best investment I have made in a long time. My wife and kids use it all the time to watch their fav UK programs. The recording features are great .All in all a great package.

I had NO END of problems with Sky boxes, if you order on line you get a top of the range box ie sony, I had lockup problems (I live in Stockport too!) the engineers do not have a clue what they are doing and just change the box (for a crud one) 4 boxes they changed, each time I got a lower spec box.

In the end it turned out to be the sky card !!!

And why do they hide the fact that you dont get 5.1 sound unless you get sky + ??

i have just left an (almost) praising review of my sky+ box and am disturbed by the negative comments here. i had ntl digital at a previous property and found the tv on-screen guide constantly slow, the channels tended to reset themselves and upon installation, the cabling was shoddy and 'unprofessional'. i put up with it until i moved (thankfully out of an ntl area-even so, they tried suggesting i was in breach of contract, to no avail!). i had sky digital installed and was very happy with the tv services and the picture quality but again, the installation wasnt of a professional standard. in both case i had them back to do the job properly and to my satisfaction. after 13 months i have moved again and upgraded to sky+ and am very pleased with the extra features and services sky+ provides (there is no rival system available of this quality). although i acknowledge the negative reviews, on the whole, the positives far outweigh the negatives (unfortunately, the negatives have been more than 'niggles'). you have to expect something not to go smoothly i think (no company is perfect or there would never be any need for improvements)and such things as bad workmanship should all be resolved immediately and then taken up with the customer services people. they want your custom (£££!)and should, as a "gesture of goodwill" compensate you, for your continuing custom. at the end of the day, sky has cornered the market in digital tv and there arent any other consumer satellite companies. as far as im concerned both ntl and telewest will never have as good a system (regardless of their packages and variety of services) as sky. it is definitely the way to go and can only see more and more features and services becoming available.

I can fully understand your frustration with Sky. I originally ordered Sky by phoning then directly in 2001. I was given an installation apointment for about 2 weeks later. I tool the day off work and they never came. I phoned them, complained and it was rescheduled for about 3 weeks after than. The day came, the installation never turned up again. I spoke to friends who told me Sky was always like this and that when they did turn up did did a half assed job and put the disk is the easiest possible palce for then and not you. They advised me to contact a local supplier instead, I did and they arived on time 2 days later.
I decided to upgrade to Sky + last month. I phoned, they took my order, gave me an install date of today (dec 12th), so again I took the day off work. I was told the installer would call before 9am to confirm what time they would be ariving. Nobody called, I phoned them at 10 and they contacted the installer and they confirmed that then would arive by 5pm. I mentioned to the Sky CS rep that on two occasions in the past I was left down by Sky. He asued me that the installation would proceed.
It is now 9pm, the installer never turned up, no one phoned me, no one contacted me at any point.
I'll called CS 3 times tonight. They cannot contact their installer, have no idea what happened. Not one of them apologised at any point. The told me that they would immediatly reschedule the apointment for Jan 5th 2004 !!!
I told then I wanted my money back and they told me it would take up to 14 days to return the funds to my credit card. Yet they act confused when I cancel all my subscriptions, sell the equipment on ebay and get the free view alternative hooked up to a TIVO instead!

Sky is superior to Ntl,yes you get a phone package as well but its no cheaper, its all swings and roundabouts my dear.Ntl is so prone to blackouts, worse than the odd downpour.Found their service second to none.Sis-in-law was told that a call-out was 60 quid no matter what,he came out and changed the dish(prob still there)so he changed the box, reprogrammed it for her card and job done....all for 60 quid..one cost fixes all!Glad we returned to Sky.Best yet...wait till you get your bill from ntl, hidden charges, costs incurred not yours...good luck!
