“Our Center Parcs Stay”

★★★★☆

written by on 28/08/2013

Having not visited centr parcs before we were pleasantly surprised at the great accommodation, the beds were fantastic. It took a while to get our bearings around the site but we found it was simple to book any event to participate in. We had a takeaway our first night which was cooked to a high standard but we felt a little pricey. The swimming complex was fantastic and a fantastic experience for any age group,we enjoyed the spa baths particularly. We went to Aqua sana for a birthday treat for my daughter ,where they spoilt us with some bubbly after our treatments.

“have been here loads of times, its awesome”

been going to Centre Parks since I was a kid and I love it. the one a Sherwood forest is the best and its close to where I live and has the best swimming pool and a giant slide with an inflatable donut for 4 people to sit in. the villas are realy good and not too close to each other and there are maps so you dont get lost which is easy becuase its so big. the football pitches are good for 5 a side and the tennis courts are very good and you can go on for free if your cheeky enough. theres a couple of bars and restaurants and shops and a supermarket and all that stuff. not sure how much it costs but it cant be too bad because we go back every couple of years. would recomend Centre Parcs to everyone who like sport or nature.

“Would not recommend”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 18/08/2013

I have just read some of the previous reviews. Center Parcs needs to read these and review. They are only concerned about inflating their swelling profits, and that is your money. As another reviewer commented on the "rip- off, cash generator and obvious greed". This sums up their ethos perfectly, particularly greed. I am totally disgusted at their lack of consideration, but it is their business to make money and they succeed very well. Look elsewhere before you book, but if you do beware of hidden costs that add up. If you are lucky enough to choose good weather your holiday will be most enjoyable but should the weather turn then your wallet needs to be full.

“Great holiday for everyone”

★★★★★

written by on 27/03/2013

We have been to Centre Parcs 2 times now (we have booked another holiday now so it will soon be 3) and it has always been a brilliant experience. The wildlife there is fantastic, all the woodland creatures are friendly and come for visits to your door step daily also the view from your porch is amazing. The subtropical swimming paradise is one of the best things about Centre Parcs. There are plenty of waterslides, including the rapids and grand cascade, also a hot tub to relax in after swimming. The villas are lovely with a cosy feel to them though I do advise to bring extra hanges because I had to hang about 4 items of clothing on the same one. The staff are very welcoming and kind. We went to the Robin Hood adventure golf and after doing the first corse (there are 2) we enjoyed it so much that we wanted to do the second one and the kind man gave us the next corse for completely free. I recommend this holiday for everyone however a little overpriced!

“Warning - Winter Vomiting Bug at Center Parcs...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/12/2012

My 2 daughters aged 5 and 9, together with 4 other children from 2 other families and 2 adults have come down with this bug whilst at the resort between Monday 17th December 2012 and Friday 21st December 2012. All the parties were perfectly healthy when they arrived at the resort on Monday. In addition the swimming pool was shut due to another child vomiting into it. Having spoken to the staff at the resort and the environmental health department, there does not seem to be much being done about containing this. The resort have made no effort to inform any existing or new parties arriving to the resort. If you’re thinking of attending this resort and have young children then I would recommend you check this is out. With the children still effected by the virus and seriously ill in bed on the last day at the resort, the management are adamant that the premises must be vacated by 12 noon. An attempt to extend the time at the villa whilst the children recovered was declined by the management. I am a very concerned parent giving you my humble review of how a situation as serious as this is handled by a resort that prides themselves in providing high standards for family holidays.

“Declining standards and very expensive.”

I have stayed at Center Parcs, Sherwood Forest about 15 times since 1997. I was really impressed by the forest location, the wildlife and peace, even with the children. The accommodation was basic but clean and comfortable enough. The traffic free environment was great, meaning I did not have to drive and it was safe for the kids to cycle. Eating out was never cheap but as a treat once or twice a visit, it was manageable. This is the reason why I kept going back. However, there has been a gradual change for the worse. More and more villas have been built, filling in areas of woodland and resulting in a lot more people everywhere. There has been a dramatic increase in motor traffic owned by Center Parcs such as service and maintenance vehicles which has made cycling a chore. Already steep prices have crept up and quality of food gone down. Eating out with a family of 5 last time I went cost £90 for basic 'burger and chips' type food. The Foresters Inn wanted £10.50 for fish and chips per plate when an excellent local fish restaurant charge about £8.50 for a complete meal including tea, bread etc etc. I am sad to see Center Parcs evolve from what it was, to the rip off, cash generator that it is today. If you have wads of cash, you'll be fine, otherwise book in the low season, take ALL your own supplies including bicycles and do not eat out. The Sub Tropical pool used to be excellent, and warm even with snow on the ground outside, but again, this has changed. Despite what the Center Parcs PR people will tell you, the temperature inside the pool HAS been reduced and the changing rooms are now cold and therefore uncomfortable in winter. If you are gullible, you'll believe the Center Parc's blurb stating that they are making every effort to 'reduce the carbon foot print', but this is simply a money saving measure to swell their coffers even more. So, sorry Center Parcs I don't like obvious greed.

This review (from someone who really knows the parc well) was very important for us in deciding not to use Centre Parcs this year - for the first time - with our two grandchildren. We'll wait for regular users to comment more favourably.

“Where has the tranquility of the Aqua Sauna gone?”

★★★★☆

written by on 27/09/2012

Seventh year for a family weekend we all love. My husband and I (Nanny and Grandad) always have a treat in the Aqua Sauna but this year we were very disappointed as the peaceful tranquility has all gone. Groups of mainly ladies chattering nineteen to the dozen in the saunas but not just the odd bit of conversation, full on non stop, chatter. There are notices on the doors asking for quiet inside the rooms but when my husband very politely asked one group of five ladies to keep the chatter to a minimum they told him "we like talking"!!! Also due to these large groups who all want to stay together the saunas are continually full,we felt too many people are in each time slot. Alas we think this will be our last year for our "treat" because we did not feel we got what we had paid for but we will most certainly be coming back for our family weekend next year. “Flea bites”

★★★☆☆

written by on 19/09/2012

We have been to Center Parc Sherwood Forest for various family reunions since 1989 and the general set up is fine for our purposes and good value in terms of accommodation with swimming facilities included in the price. There is plenty to do on site although that tends to be expensive. However, our last three visits (2012, 2010 and the one before that) were marred by the fact that many of us (among the 31 of us staying in five different villas) discovered we were bitten by fleas (we know the difference between flea and mozzie bites and are 100% sure that these were flea bites, not least because they were largely on our trunk, in places that are not exposed to mozzies etc in the daytime). Visitor Services maintained that in a nature reserve there are always insects outside and would not acknowledge that there was a problem in the villas. We don't get bitten like that in the countryside that surrounds our own home and can only conclude that there is a constant flea problem there in the carpets or soft furnishings. Be warned!

me and my family have been coming to centerparcs sherwood forest for seven years now and have only just got back from our most recent trip, a weekend from the 31st august - 3rd september. we all enjoy every second of the break and i have already been looking at the prices for next year! the subtropical swimming paradise is always a must-go-to for us, with it's hot tubs, wave pool, water slides, outdoor pool, rapids and MUCH more, we spent over three hours in there! in the town center, there are a wide range of shops from sweet treats to small gifts, so it's guaranteed that there will be something for everyone to buy there. also in the town center is a selection of cafe's and resturaunts to choose from if you are going to eat out one night. each different place has it's own theme. hucks does american style food, cafe rouge does french style food but there are plenty more options to choose from! there are over 200 indoor and outdoor activities, some of which are: horse riding, water sports, pottery, archery, football, face-painting, arts and crafts, plus LOADS more! the best way to travel around centerparcs is by bike, although there are specially designed footpaths/walkways which do not allow bikes or cars to pass through. if you want to spend some time together with someone special, why not drop the kids of at the nursery, or for older children, why not let them join one of the age-grouped clubs? centerparcs sherwood forest is truly the best holiday we've ever been on, and i want other people to see the real beauty of the nottingham forests.

“Parc and facilities fantastic, villas a little dated”

★★★★☆

written by on 31/08/2012

We have been visiting Sherwood forest for over 21 years. Initially we began going with our children and now we are visiting with our grandchildren. Over the years we have never had a bad holiday. Every year as been just as enjoyable. We have always loved the idea that you can do as much or as little as you like. The accomodation however this time we noted did need a little attention. Is this because we chose to stay in the 1 bed comfort? The rest of the family stayed in a larger 4 bed villa and theirs was fantastic. In ours the tiles in the bathroom were looking a little grubby and the walls were not as clean as usual. There were cobwebs in lots of areas clearly visable but obviously not dealt with. The bedding was lumpy and initially the villa was cold though the problems with the heating was dealt with promptly. We don't stay in the villa much as we like to go out and about but for someone who does I think this could have been an issue.

“Lovely park but poor accommodation ”

★★★☆☆

written by AGD88 on 20/08/2012

We stayed before in there comfort for a week, it was lovely and had a lot of charm, waking up with animals at the door and having beautiful views. His time we stayed for a weekend in the new style executive lodges, same price as the week in comfort, I have to be honest, not worth the extra money. The room is lovely and well set out, but right on the car park, small back patio area with a view of the car park, very little wildlife due to this. The room was clean and tidy on arrival however daily maid service is a con, you get on set of towels that are not changed, the bathroom is not cleaned the floors are not cleaned the dishwasher emptied, bed made and bin taken out, I could do that myself with out the intrusion, not sure of the point of trying to be a hotel when they are not and for the price you expect to have better service, the heated floors and heated towel rail and light in jacuzzi bath did not work, and neither did one of the bathroom sinks, rooms on the surface have spared no expense except for the quality of finishing in areas, a wine cooler that rattled and very poor tiling in bathroom, we were that close to neighbours patio you could hear there full conversation, however the centre is lovely it is clean and tidy, lots to do the pool is superb as is the spa, he restaurants are great and good quality, huckster and cafe rouge to be visited, nice shops also, I would come again but have learnt that money does not buy you extra here and would stay in lower accommodation for the experience, I wanted to put this on as feedback for C P but there is no where on there website?

“Not so much a Holiday, more like Sanctuary”

★★★★★

written by Holdfast on 27/05/2012

We first visited Centre Parcs, Sherwood a year after it first opened, it was described as a "Yuppy Butlins", we found it to be a revelation. It can be as active or relaxing as you want it to be. Having just returned from a Mid Week Break at Sherwood it still ranks as a Class Act. Centre Parcs have not adopted the view, We Have Built it let's just rake in the cash, it appears to be getting better with age. Some may say it is expensive, if you want quality you have to pay for it, but saying that, I did not find the prices that bad

“Best UK holiday destination by far!”

written by on 05/01/2012

We spent Christmas at Sherwood, as we have done many times before. It was magical as always with the beautiful decorations on site and the wonderful woodland to wake up to every morning. We got a villa we had stayed in before so it was like coming home. At night beofre going to sleep we would open the bedroom curtains so we would wake up to the silhouettes of the trees in the morning, then we would watch the sun rise and feed the squirrels, birds and two gorgeous swans which visited throughout the day. It was so funny because these two swans would nest outside, we would feed them and then they would build up a kind of nest. On Boxing day evening, they were sat outside in the dark, just waiting for us to feed them again. The subtropical swimming paradise is so much fun, you don't have to be a kid to enjoy it. As soon as Tarzan calls, we rush to be in the waves. But we spend most of our time going round and round and round the rapids until the pool closes at night. We take our own bikes, which saves a lot of money when you visit frequently. We cycle every inch of the park, around the back of the park is the best where the new fabulous tree houses are. We have also cycled outside of the park where you can really get some good cycling in if you are wanting a harder trek. Walking around the park is wonderful too. There are so many birds to see, not just at the nature point, everywhere you look. We saw our first Goldcrest, which we were thrilled about. We counted over 30 different birds, fed rabbits with our left over carrots and even hand fed squirrels. The nature on site and being so close to it all, is absolutely magical! We spend just 5 nights over Christmas, I cooked dinner and we only ate out twice. We didn't book any activities this time. And the reason for this is partly because we have already booked two more holidays at Center Parcs for this year, but you really don't have to spend much money at all if you don't want to. We travel as a couple and want a romantic getaway, we bring our own bikes, food and drink. What you get in with your holiday is more than enough our my opinion. We are busy all day long, in and out with the bikes or walking or swimming. The lodges are always very comfortable and cosy. The beds are amazing! Our only little criticism would be the sofa, it seems to eat you up when you sit on it for more than a few minutes, but then we don't go there to sit and watch tv. We absolutely love having the fireplace and bought loads of logs. On Christmas day we woke up at 5am with excitement, lit a log on the fire and opened our presents. Then we had a cooked breakfast fit for a king and queen. We even went swimming on Xmas day, which you just would not be able to do at home, well unless you had a pool that is. LOL We just love Center Parcs, from the moment you arrive the excitement grabs you and you can't wait to explore and go for pancakes, well that is us. A pancake on arrival and a pancake before we head off home. OK, we do sometimes do more, like quad biking and archery etc.. but we can still go to CP and just take advantage of all the best things in life which are free. I would recommend Center Parcs to anyone, anyone that is who knows how to have a good time and sees life with a glass half full attitude. Our glass feels full after this Christmas break, it is the best Christmas we have ever had, well one of them, and we can't wait for our next break there. Counting down the days now. Thank you Center Parcs for proving this fantastic and unique holiday experience which is great all year round in all weathers.

Very happy with the weekend villa superb beds sooooo comfortable surroundings so very English-woods lakes squirrels ducks just fab!! The biking was lovely but you still have to have your wits about you as the impression is one of "car free" but it isnt. The swimming pool is also superb but wish they had kept the jaccuzzi's free from children! All in all a great weekend although expensive.

“Had a great time :)”

★★★★☆

written by on 12/08/2011

Centre Parcs in Sherwood Forest was fantastic. Beautiful scenery. Excellent for a long weekend away. Villa was a good size, had everything we needed, bedding was clean, however, I would have expected it to be better cleaned around the windows and patio area and also there were alot of creepy crawlies in the rooms, which frightened the children. Activites were good, the sub-tropical swimming was the only thing that was included in the price, wished a few more things could be included in the price, then it would make it better value for money. Kids had a great time, there was plenty to do for everyone, would definately go again. But this time will be hiring bikes to get around.
