“My husband our 8 year old daughter and myself stayed...”

★★★★★

written by RB826 on 06/10/2005

My husband our 8 year old daughter and myself stayed at Pontins Blackpool for the weekend to see the lights. We were pleasantly surprised because we had heard some bad reports about camp sites in general. We had a great weekend in spite of the weather. My daughter and I hired a bike, it was great. The man in the hire shop is sweet and every time we got stuck with the bike there was no shortage of people who gave us a push. Staff and guests were fantastic!

We stayed at Pontins Blackppol for 1 night and not only is the place filthy but it should be shut down for the lack of heating facilities in the room. This night we spent was one night too long.

Pontin's in Blackpool should receive a visit from the health inspector and be closed down for its unhygenic accommodation!

There were brown stains on the bedding, the room smelt of dog. The heater barely worked and the whole place itself should be knocked down and sold to developers who will make better use of the space. Absolutely vile and if you consider going to Pontin's, change your mind now!!!

I totally disagree with the bad points people have said about Pontins at Blackpool. I have seen a lot more holiday parks in a much worse state than this one! I thought the restaurant was very clean and hygenic, the food was excellent and the evening entertainment was fantastic! Prices were resonable and expectable. The short holiday i have recently had there was superb and couldnt wish for much better. All the staff were extremely friendly and couldnt do enough to help you, The accomodation was cleaned to a very high standard in classic. There is everything for all the family to do there. I would definitely recommend this park to everyone of all ages. Need i say more...

“Stayed at Pontins Blackpool August 2005 for a week...”

★★★★☆

written by urshie on 18/08/2005

Stayed at Pontins Blackpool August 2005 for a week with our 3 children. Accomodation was better(bar the carpets) than I expected, nice clean fresh smelling bedding which is ultra important! A double room, a twin and a single which meant my 14 year old daughter got her own space and the little 'uns shared. Plentiful storage space, a tv/video combi, kettle, and a nice hot shower. We were lucky to have fantastic weather and there was plenty to keep the younger kids entertained with free shows in the main square most days and kids clubs every evening. Entertainment for older kids is not so good, it was much more geared towards boys (pool & playstation comps) than girls so my daughter hung around with us most of the time. I think they could benefit from a pay as you go internet cafe, my daughter would have certainly spent a few bob! There are two entertainment venues for cabaret (We saw Mick Miller and Odyessy amongst others)plus a traditional pub with karaoke on most nights which was open till 2am. Next door are 2 takeaways for those late night nibbles but to be honest after tucking away a 3 course meal every evening we used them only once! Drinks are reasonable and on arrival you receive Pontins vouchers with special offers, the pitcher of cocktails (4 pints) for £6.90 being especially good value. All the bluecoats are friendly and helpful but the compere 'Ian the Goat' was the cheesiest thing on two legs and struck me as a bit of a git. If you do happen to get rain there is plenty of free indoor stuff to do, afternoon shows, quizes, bingo, darts, snooker, pool and an arcade so the kids can spend your life savings. Beware if you want to do some washing, the launderettes last wash is at the ridiculously early time of 2.30pm & before you get there buy some tokens from the cash office at reception to save you trekking back. I must stress we only paid £379 for half board so it was a bargain holiday for us, I think full price should have been around £800 and although we all enjoyed it I'm not entirely sure I wouldn't have wanted more for £800.

written by jo smith on 30/07/2005

Feel it is almost insulting of Pontins in Blackpool to offer holidaymakers such a poor environment. Holiday saved by cheerfulness of staff and the fact that someone in the kitchen ie. the chef, has pride in what they do and the service that they offer people. On the plus side, the staff are helpful and cheerful all over the entire site especially the Bluecoats and instructors for 8 to 16 activities, who work really hard to provide high quality entertainment and activities in shabby, dirty and very unloved surroundings, especially Stardust. The food is good even though the choice is limited, I did not see one piece of fresh fruit all week. The negatives are that even though the first week of the Summer Holidays is in high season, four out of six swings were broken on the playground, plus one out of two baby swings broken and the Aeroball was also broken. I saw no-one trying to repair them during our week on camp. The Leisure Zone resembles a youth club waiting to shut down due to lack of funding. Generally the site is in need of paint and a thorough revamp. I feel the holiday is overpriced for such shabby facilities. I couldn't help wondering if the paid entertainment facilities would have been repaired sooner. Also, I feel there is actually very little for those under the age of 8 to do. Adventure Land and old Playstations, that is about it. Also regarding the H2O Zone, I would agree with other reviews that the female changing rooms are incredibly smelly when you first walk in. We found the water in the pool very cold and unsuitable for young children. Reception area was very up-to-date and well cared for, so why not the rest of the camp?

I stayed at Pontins Blackpool in June 2005 with my wife and youngest child. The initial arrival at Pontins was a bit disappointing; you just collected an envelope and were left to it. Once you have read information inside envelope you have a little more knowledge of what to do.
The food was very good but you need to watch when getting to a table, they were a bit slow in cleaning tables properly. The entertainment was really good for my son but some days there was little, so we had to venture into Blackpool until the evening where it got going again. In general I would recommend Pontins to any family wanting a short break but don't go for two weeks as they just repeat everything basically.

I Only stayed one night at Pontins Blackpool, but I would recommend it. The food was superb and entertainment was first class. Chalet let them down, it was in need of new carpets and the site looks a little rundown. Many activities on offer for kids but didn't have time to try them out. I would go again but upgrade to club class chalet.
