“Very, very tacky accommodation. Did not have much...”

written by on 09/09/2010

Very, very tacky accommodation. Did not have much interaction with staff apart from when i requested a change of caravan on arrival. By the way, this was quickly resolved without much fuss, just that the alternative one was equally run down. I sense staff are doing their best but no excuse for the dirty pools and caravan. Space Bowl which is the main attraction only operates very limited hours, 12 mid-day for two hours. Don't bother with it if your children are under 8yrs (was told 10 years by lifeguard on site) and must be able to swim as you end up in i beleive 5ft to 6ft deep bowl beneath the slide. Lack of proper road signs and directions to the resort from town, very poor directions within the resort too e.g. the funworks entertainment centre isn't the esiest to find using existing directions on site. Not reconmended for people with mobility issues as resort is located on a hill. Overall, am NOT gutted as it cost me £159 (superior caravan for 2 adults and 2 children) for 3 nights 3rd - 5th September 2010 (did i hear you say i got what i paid for??) and afforded me the opportunity to shop at the Ashford designer outlet which was under 30 miles away. Accommodation at Burnam-on-Sea and Allhallows which i've also been were miles better. Easily the worst holiday resort i've ever visited...returned home after the second night as i just couldn't take it anymore.

after seeing the state of the first accomodation we were not happy and managed to get moved but were made to feel like we were complaining for no reason although we were not the only ones asking to move there was a great big line of us!!!...pool looked good but when we actually got there the outside pool was full of rubbish and the space bowl wasnt working also because of rubbish and glass in the pool!..cant really comment on the evening entertainment as out of 4 nights we only actually saw 1 night as there was no where near enough room in the live lounge for the amount of people in the camp and were unable to get a table to sit at

spent £600 to end up being provided a caravan not even fit for a tramp!! It stunk of stale fags, the beds were badley stained (all of them), the sofas were minging and stil crushed where the previous family sat. Cleaners did not even bother puffing them up. The carpet was stickey to walk on. After complaining (politely) we were given an alternative caravan and yes, it was much much beter, as it was a 2010 model. Clean, new & no smell. Such a shame because everything else on site (inc ammeneties) was a complete rip off. Arcades took around £12 of our money alone without actually playing anything, the shop was at extausionate prices so we had to keep travelling to our local Tesco store. Bikes were not available for hire because previous families had apparently tarnished them (dirty little skanks), go-karts were always unavailable, a part of the map wasnt even built, but they thought they would build our hopes up buy printing it anyway as an impressional thing. Could never go out about 6 o-clock because families were already hording tables ready for the shows, so standing was our only option, unless you put your jacket on a chair at about 4pm your were screwed for a seat. Kids bombing around everywhere on their own, but where were the parents??? getting wasted!! Ended up travelling to Hastings most days because it just wasnt even worth the walk around.

Combe Haven is a amazing place to go, The Staff Are lovely the funstars are BRILLIANT, There is many competitons, bingo and night entertainmnet to go to. And there are a lot of activities to do but you must pay for them sepreatley. The arcade is big and great, there are two but really everyone goes in the main one, except for people who own the caravans. There is a very handy thing as the live lounge is attached to the MAIN arcade so your little ones/children can go and play while you play bingo and watch the night entertainment. The pool and slide are amazing and the shop has everything you need. The food is good and at a very good price and the same for the bar. I cant believe some of these reviews are so bad it is an amazing place and would HIGHLY recomend to anyone.

I have just come back from Combe Haven in Hastings, it was such an amazing holiday park the staff here was so friendly that let me check in 2 hours before the time I was meant to go. The Deluxe Caravan was privately owned but the owners sublet it and Haven are in charge of cleaning it but it was very clean. They have lots of family games, shows, competitions and so much more, children have a park and there is shows and competitions for different age groups. It is also very cheap for a weeks holiday there with all entertainment passes. It has very helpful staff, I feel this holiday was a really good one. When you phone please just make sure that your bed is ready made or you need to make it.

we used to work at combe haven, not no more, some caravans are really lovley while others are only fit for the local tip, i dont no how haven can even put guests in some of them, the new water slide is hardly ever operating, due to lack of staff, or so they say...you wont believe it but as cleaners we only used to get £3.75 to clean any grade caravan, that can be your small 2 bed to a large 3 bed with 2 bathrooms, and you only have 30mins to clean it, butlins is a much better place to go, at least the pillows and quilts are clean there..

“We arrived late at night due to traffic and and...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 09/08/2010

We arrived late at night due to traffic and and becoming lost as their were no clear signs towards haven. Finding the caravan was never-ending due to a lot of the caravans not labelled or told where we were. The first site we saw was an ambulance and police cars on the site so we already didn't have high hopes for this place. When we found our caravan eventually it was positioned right at the back of the site which had a broken fence, foliage and heaps of trash thrown into the trees. The area around actually looked like a trash site and haven obviously didn't care about the positioning of the caravans. Inside the caravan was the most appalling site we had ever seen. The carpets we filthy and stained. The fridge had human hairs and old crumbs. The freezer compartment looked liked it had never been cleaned out or defrosted. One of the cupboards had crumbs and an outdated packet of crisps yet to have been removed. The kitchen floor had dirt and obviously not cleaned for a while. The wall paper in kitchen had pealed away to reveal more dirt and dust and had no end of amount of moths in the kitchen. The settee was dirty, stained and smelt of damp behind the cushions was human hair and dust and was stained behind it. Windows were stained and window sills dusty with mould in the corner. The Curtains were smelly and outdated. The bathroom itself smelt of urine. The toilet had not been cleaned especially the back of the toilet seat. The kids bedroom was tiny and damp also with a dirty carpet. So dirty that we had to move the mattresses out into the living room. By doing that we noticed one of the mattresses had a large stain in it. Thank-god we brought our own linen and duvets and pillows as the pillows were stained and torn. Although we had brought a dog we do not expect to stay and such a filthy accommodation. The next day we had to get out of the awful caravan and went to the swimming pool on the site. At first we though it was o-k but soon noticed the mud and sand on the floor and the pool was way to over packed. The leaflet and the site online expressed how close the beach was but obviously not. Unless you don't mind walking through busy traffic lights that had a few crashes on the roads while we were there and going down the filthy alleyways then it might be sorta close. But haven do not let you know this or that you have to come down a steep road. The restaurant on site itself was ok but service was slow the shop had alot of choice so was no problem there. The amusements were good if you had young kids. The entertainment was bad and boring halfway through you start to realize even the fun workers were even bored. We thought we go to the sports drome the next day for activities but every time we went no workers were there. Overall we had a terrible time and were very disappointed, haven is very misleading on the site and do not explain the full extent of the parks. We would recommend that no one comes here as it is awful experience and a total waste of your money as haven only seem to be in this for money as everything is ridiculously over priced here and they dont seem to care about the welfare of their customers And we will be requesting a full refund.

I have to say that I completely agree with the comments made in this review. We visited in July of last year after choosing the park to combine other elements of our holiday in London and in Nottingham before returning home to the North east. After a long drive we were kept waiting for over an hour to check in, and then were shown to an appauling accomodation. We chose as an alternative a chalet!! Never again, in any park!!!! The smell on opening the door was one of urine, the mould and dirt in the kitchens and bathroom was disgraceful. The fridge and freezer cooker etc were filthy, curtains torn and ripped, stained bedding etc. We did complain as we have 2 small children, and were kept waiting for 3 hours for a member of management to look at the chalet. Even then they were reluctant to do anything. It was only until I mentioned that we had taken some photographs that they decided to do something (it was so bad we mentioned environmental health). I wipred a sofa over with a clean baby wipe which came away Black!!!! We checked in at 2pm, and it was 10.30pm before we got into our new caravan. They did eventually give us a platinum caravan, but we lost one bedroom. The rest of the park, the shop was expensive, the pool was dirty, the staff overall were unhelpful, although I have to say the only ones not to be were the funstars, who mad the holiday for our children. We had no option to go home as we were going elsewhere, but the park were happy to move us to a kind of nearby park with an extra cost to us of £200!!! never again!!!!!!! Please do not go there

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/08/2010

We were supposed to have a 5 day break at Combe Haven last week but ended up coming home after just 3 hours.
We were given 3 different Superior Caravans which were all filthy dirty...pubic hairs, dead flies everywhere, cigarette burns on sofa, unclean bathroom, soiled & stained mattresses and pillows, I could go on forever!
As my daughter has breathing problems she needs to sleep in the same room as us..there was no sofa bed despite it being listed as an accommodation feature. They even had the cheek to give us a caravan that someone else had complained about and moved from!!
I can't believe there are actually good reviews about this place when there were at least 30 other people complaining about the state of their caravans at the same time I was!

written by natalieandmark on 25/07/2010

I have just returned from Combe Haven on the 23rd July after a one week stay and loved every minute of it. before i went i read all these reviews and was very wary of that id let my self of for...even took my own cleaning products, but i was pleasantly suprised we had a 2 bedroom superior 2010 caravan and it was FANTASTIC, very clean and everything we needed for me my partner and 2 kids. The site was clean and tidy, kids entertainment was BRILLIANT could not fault it what so ever. the funstars were fun and enthusiatic getting everyone involved. The funstars were very helpful and friendly but the reception staff were useless and needed to put a smile on their faces. The pools were lovely and clean and the outdoor is heated too. the space bowl is sooo good!!!(too fast for kids though) and the indoor pool has way too much chlorine in. Also if purchasing your holiday online DO NOT buy the extra activity passes which are around £30 as you will not get your moneys worth as it is cheaper to pay for each activity whilst you are there as these activities range from free to £6 per activity. The adult entertainment was good too. However the site IS situated on a steep hill we were in the middle so it wasnt that bad for us but if your at the bottom of the park youll be worn out by time you get to the top. Also you will have a lovely view of the landfill site. and pestered by thousands of seagulls especially waking you up in a morning!! But over all we had a brilliant time at Combe Haven would definatly recommend to others and would go back again. i would give it a 8/10...very satisfied with what we got for our money :D

Don't understand all the negative comments here.

We have been going to Combe Haven for the last 5 years and never had any problems.

We have stayed in most levels of accommodation from bronze up to platimium. Sometimes things have been broken or missing, but a quick trip to reception and the problem was sorted really fast. Reception staff are always polite and helpful.

Security is excellent and never had any fears for my kids safety as any unaccompanied child trying to exit the clubhouse is stopped.

Only downside is the food is really expensive - so cook your own or go into Hastings.

It has become a bit 'chavvy' in the last year or so - way too many single mums with buggies and not a man in site!! But on the whole still a great place for kids, teenagers and adults.

Evening entertainment is excellent and well worth the money.

We are a family of 4 including a pre teen and a teenager, our service on arrival was great, the only issue we had was that our caravan had not been anchored down, we went to reception to complain and by the time we walked back to the caravan the problem had been mended. We ate at the mash and barrel on 3 occasions and the food and service was good but pricey (£38 for 4 soft drinks and 4 burgers). Although the evening entertainment was for younger children our kids enjoyed it, unfair that the carousel bar was closed to holiday makers on a Saturday evening so the caravan owners could have a good old knees up (holiday makers were not told this until we stood in the queue to get in). Leisure team was excellent with our kids as we took on additional activities (activity pass, to be booked before arrival) which included archery and a wall climb. An overall good family holiday with a clean site, plenty of entertainment, but expensive.

We have just got home from a weekend away in a Comfort chalet.

The room smelt REALLY bad, had ants everywhere, pubes in the bath, cockroache in the living room, ciggarette paper in the fire etc.

room was filthy when we arrived.

WOULD NEVER GO BACK.

When we complained they ignored us, made several promises and broke every one.

WHEN I MENTIONED ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH THEY VERY QUICKLY REFUNDED AND OFFERED NEXT STAY FREE!!

We stayed in a Superior 2 bedrooms caravan for 4 days. No microwave as stated but no so bad as we eat out anyway. Just 2 channels on the tv.BBC 1 and 2. The thing we most did'nt like was the carpets in the living area, absolutely filthy! The upholstery was'nt much better either, stained and smelly,we Febrezed it ourselves. Cheap and cheerful at £116 for days but as for clean? Nil.

We have just got back from a Mon - Fri break & would definatley not recommend to friends! We booked a Comfort Plus apartment as we have 2 small children & needed a bath.On arrival it took ten minutes to locate key, then told wrong accomodation number. Our accomodation could not be described as comfort at all, we was greeted by a mouldy/musty smell on entering apartment, there was a mouldy roller blind in the bathroom, all velour blinds in bedroom where either ripped/damaged and didn't fit windows. You could feel the springs through the doube matress, was changed but didn't feel anything diffrent to our previous matress - told no more on site, and thay would give us a duvet to put over the top! Smashed eggs against the bedroom windows. The leather settee in the living room was very uncomfortable, no padding on the side just the wood frame, one leather chair had no legs, fire did not work.We did report all to the reception team and a member did come and see us, but nothing really came of it! except the blind being changed in the bathroom. Will not be staying again!

We have just come home from a 5 day stay at Combe Haven. Id read the reviews on here so was a little worried to waht to expect. We were given a 3 bed caravan for just 4 of us so brilliant, our 2 little ones didnt have to share. The caravan was very clean with a microwave etc. The restaurant on site was perfect for us, they sold Annabel Karmel meals for the kids. All the entertainment in the live lounge was brill, our 2 girls loved all the characters. The swimming pool could be slighly bigger and a seperate baby bit would have been useful but wasnt a major issue. There isnt much to do off site, but for 5 days this wasnt a problem. One tip id say is to take yr own pillows, not very comfy the ones we had. Or 2 little girls are 22 mnths and 3 yrs old and loads to do for them, almost all free of charge too. Would recommend to others for a cheap, family holiday!

A lovely place tp stay. I don't know why there are so many bad reviews. I believe that the top-range caravans are lovely, and that the bad reviews must come from the low range, pet, smoker caravans. We have stayed at combe haven 5 years in a row. We usually get a very nice caravan, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a decent living space and kitchen (although the kitchen is not really suitable for cooking). The mash and barrell is nice and breakfast is good. The pool is lovely, outside.

In a nutshell, it's really good and great for children.

Went for a second year running to Combe Haven, and stayed in the bungalows. Funny, the stuff you put up with the first year, but won't keep tolerating. Like ants, poor decor, mould, smells, blocked drains etc. Anyone booking any Haven holiday knows they are taking pot luck. We won't be going back, as a B&B offers better accommodation for less money, but it might suit some. The slot machines are annoyingly loud. The Mash & Barrel was cheap with generous food portions. The club was affordable, but still doing the Christmas show in April? The kids shows lasted ten minutes with much longer photo sessions to sell more tutt from the club shop. I wouldn't write it off completely, but would dread going back a third year. Time to try something new.

We've just come back from a Mon-Fri break booked through the Daily Mail, we couldn't fault the holiday it was far better than we could have imagined. Kids club and staff were superb our 5yr old & 11 yr old had an amazing time. Our caravan was well sited and spotless. Didn't see the adult entertainment as little one so exhausted from her days asked to go home to bed every night so evenings were bliss for us.
