“I used to visit Butlins with my parents & sister when...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 28/08/2010

I used to visit Butlins with my parents & sister when I was a kid, so decided to take my wife & kids there. I decided to stay at the Bognor Regis resort, instead of Skegness where I used to go, what a mistake. The adverts say golden sandy beaches, having never been to Bognor before, it's only got pebble beaches, I say pebbles more like rocks.
Anyway getting back to Butlins, We stayed in a chalet which was cleanish with a fridge + a TV (though only a couple of channels were available). The beds were not very comfy, the double bed sagged and all the mattresses needed replacing, as they were badly stained (glad I didn't look until the last day). The shower wasn't brilliant; the fridge didn't keep anything frozen.
The facilities for kids 6 or under are ok, but my kids are 11, 13 & 17, there was next to nothing for them to do. It seems nearly everything was money orientated, so if you did want to go on the climbing that's £5, the water walking £5, go-carts £5, Dodgems (yep you've guess it £5). It took all of 5-10 mins to walk around this very very little fun fair; they all shut down at 6pm too. There were other things to do like bowling, arcades (plenty of these), but all required money. Don't get me wrong I didn't mind spending money on my children, but I think I spent as much money keeping them occupied as I paid for the holiday itself.
The Redcoats were always well presented & polite, so had no problems with them.
The night time entertainment was ok, George Simpson was on one, well disappointing, so was the ABBA Sing-A-Long, however The Beatles tribute band was excellent, and my only fault was they could have easily doubled the time they were on.
I think the price that people pay to stay at the Butlins resorts does not reflect good value for money by far. I could go on with more complaints, but won't. If you read all the reviews the only good ones were written by parents with very young children.
To summarise I wish I had saved my money and gone somewhere else that at least on sandy beaches for the kids to play on. Don't think we would ever go back to Butlins, as we all had had enough by the 3rd day, though I'd book for a week. I also filled out the survey form they give, but somehow I think it would have been filed out of the way.

“Me and my friend and 3 kids have just returned from...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 31/07/2010

Me and my friend and 3 kids have just returned from Butlins Bognor Regis. We stayed in the gold accommodation which was awful. The bathroom was dirty and very small. The kitchen area needed a good clean, and so did the floor. The bedrooms were basic but a bit cleaner and the beds comfortable.
It's expensive to eat and drink out and there's also a lot of things that you have to pay extra for.
The entertainment was good for both us and the kids. I don't think it was value for money.
We decided to leave a day earlier. The kids really enjoyed it and wanted to stay.
I wont be returning

we have been to butlins 7 times and it is absolutely great. We have always been to gold and it is always spotless and comfy. The entertainment for children and adults is great. The food there is amazing,so much choice. The rides there are fun for children and adults. The daytime shows are just as good as nightime.Theres lots for children of all ages.I would certainly recommend that you should go there because you get value for your money and it is worth it.

“2 adults and 2 children (2&4yrs) may2010 ”

2 adults and 2 children (2&4yrs) may2010

We have just got back from a 4 night break at butlins, bognor regis.
We stayed in gold apartments which were nice, no problems that ruined our stay although a few minor issues hot water tap in kitchen didnt turn on full and also it got very cold in the evenings, despite heating on from 6pm.
Resort spotless and full of entertainment and fun for the children aged 3yrs plus - not much for the under 3`s and my little 2 yr old did get quite bored and upset as he couldnt go on most things. ALL he could go on was £1 a go so soon mounted up!
Arcade area is rather large and not good if you have anyone who is easily tempted by the slots or teddy machines.
Photoshoots with the skyline characters are £5.99 each and sometimes there is 2 or 3 a day so we skipped through and chose 1 a day, I also stood right by and took photos too so can easily be done free of charge too.
We didnt take our buggy which was a BIG mistake!! Lots of walking and on your feet from 8am-9pm constant so quite difficult for younger children.
We were self catering and got food from Tesco in bognor regis itself as the onsite spar had nothing for quick main meals.
Electric cooker, toaster and microwave all clean and instructions for use, all cooking equipment is provided and all clean and in good condition.
Small freezer compartment in fridge - this we didnt know!
I took lunch with us in a small cool bag and also took our own drinks as onsite is expensive and soon adds up. Apartments is literally 5 mins from skyline so easy to pop back and forth if need be.

Skyline is a godsend for children and red coats are always there for the kids. Waterpark is fab! FREE and no charges at all, including lockers. Excellent staff and very clean.

My tips for next time - save 2p`s and £1 coins for the children.
Take buggy, tea towels and loo roll and more clothes - kids get so dirty!!

Butlins & Shoreline hotel - Butlins mega, mega expensive for food outlets, snacks, drinks and those sodding gaming machines!! Queued once, never again, for two hours to get a swim in the minute swimming pool which was shoulder to shoulder it was so crowdwed - think there was water??? Hotel disgustingly dirty, broken toilet seat, poo smeared all over toilet. Expensive breakfast in shoreline absolutely revolting, rock hard sausages, baco, toast, croissants.....strange tasting non brand coffee, fruit juices???? I could go on but really just want to say DON'T BOTHER GOING!!! IT REALLY IS LIKE A PRISON CAMP!!!

“Visited Butlins Bognor for 4 days this christmas,...”

★★★★★

written by Rick Warner on 28/12/2009

Visited Butlins Bognor for 4 days this christmas, absolutely brilliant, couldnt pick fault in anything, all red coats etc were always very polite and helpful. The 5 course christmas was excellent, real value for money and the entire courses were delivered to our tables in a very professional and speedy manner.

Entertainment was also brilliant, real non stop action, its the first time i have ever thought of visiting Butlins, all of our family usually holiday abroad and take short breaks at Haven sites, Butlins superceedes any Haven sites that i have visited by miles and should be congratulated.

If anyone who reads this wants a real value for money all action (CHEAP) break, then Butlins is definately the place to go.

Thankyou Butlins from the entire Warner family. See you christmas 2010, if not sooner.

we have been going to Butlins at Bognor Regis for years, we have been before the "makeover" and it really needed it! we used to have the gold appartment when my boys came but now it is just my daughter we go for the silver appartment which is ok and cheaper but you cant complain about the gold very roomy and comfy if you can afford it go for that. last year we went for the weekend for the first time as we normally go midweek and found that the entertainment was better and more was happening around the site.

We have stayed at Butlins several times and I must say this is far better than our holiday to Pontins last year.
My children love the indoor funfair and play areas.
They have updated most of the apartments which is good as last time we stayed the carpet looked like it had seen better days.
Again the entertainment was brill and we even saw Austin and Laura from the X-factor.
The only concern I have is the cost of the amusement arcade and the tickets that the children want to collect to get a prize at the end of the holiday.
The new hotel looks very big I just don't know where all the people will go for the evening entertainment as centre stage was packed when we was there.

Accomodation at Butlins in Bognor Regis was very good. Choice of food outlets for self catering. However, too many people all trying to get into the clubs on new years eve. People were queueing from 2pm to get into venues opening for 7 pm on new years eve. Over all it was not worth the money.

I really enjoyed my stay and I am sure you will too. I would like to have known about the food part before we arrived. Plenty for adults to do, e.g bowling, pool and swimming. Bowling and pool you have to pay. Staff are very helpful when you have a problem. The swimming pool is fab for adults and children. Changing rooms fab too. They give you a token to use for locker so no need to take your money with you. It was my first visit to a Butlins and I really enjoyed it.
