“Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 45.5 chrono”

★★☆☆☆

written by Dennistosh on 18/03/2013

Bought a brand new one in late January. Initially was thrilled, BUT -- after 6 weeks a luminescent marker fell off the second hand then a week later the second hand wouldn't return to 12 o'clock -- went to a different place every time I used the bottom pusher! Now it goes back to Omega after having it for less than 2 months and I have to wait for 8 weeks to get it back!!! How monumentally disappointing for an $8,000+ wristwatch, next time I will stick to Breitlimg or Rolex, which have been flawless.

“Not if you are allergic to Nickle”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 14/11/2012

I have the ladies version of this watch and was told that there is no problem if you are allergic to Nickle. I do not have a severe allergy, just to cheap jewellery if worn for more that a couple of days. Every time I wear my watch my allergy flares up around the back of the watch face. I have spoken to Swiss Watches and they have told me there is nothing they can do, I must be allergice to stainless steel. (this is not the case as my stainless steel Swatch is fine) I would not spend the money on their products again. It seems that say anything to get your money and sell shoddy materials, using cheap metal.

written by Kaisersoze on 07/10/2012

Watch just stopped working on the walk home, took it to place of purchase they sent it of to omega and they refused to honour warranty and informed me a scratch on the clasp invoked the warranty as the watch had suffered an impact which was exclude from the warranty. Message whatever watch you buy make sure it is not an Omega as they don't honour any warranty claim of any kind just by a casio 0r accurist etc and save yourself £2500.00p

“Only the size and looks are sturdy”

★★☆☆☆

written by joeleo74 on 17/08/2012

I had the watch for 1 year, had bought this watch with the impression of a sturdy strong watch supported by big Rand OMEGA. But unfortunatley, the watch is not as strong and sturdy. I had a problem with the date and sent the watch to Omega for correction and was told that the the internal parts are damaged as there was a shock to the watch. In reality the omega team had found a small scratch on the Bezel and pointed the defect to it.The scratch on the bezel was due to a scratch by a sharp object but not a smack. It was a complete dissappointment to know that the an expensive, big brand watch is not what is claimed by the Company.

“Omega Seamaster – expect a big annual outlay!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 20/06/2012

I inherited my first Omega watch after my father's sudden death in 1983. It was a World War 2 military issue model which he had saved up for after the war had ended. I loved it from being a youngster and dreamed of one day owning it, which unfortunately came all too soon. So it was with a heavy heart that I wore the watch for a further 26 years but everyone who caught a glimpse of it thought it was a beautiful timepiece and was intrigued by its history. I had the Omega stolen when my home was burgled in February 2009 on a rare day that I wasn't wearing it. Heartache aside, the only consolation to this was I was awarded enough money (with a small top up from myself) to buy a James Bond Omega Seamaster – something I thought I could never afford. Needless to say, the replacement HAD to be an Omega, and again, a thing of outstanding beauty. As you can imagine, I took great care of my Omega Seamaster, even narrowly escaping losing it when the bracelet broke after only a few weeks of wearing it. Thankfully, I was wearing a jacket with elasticated cuffs at the time and there was no damage. More worrying, however, was that the watch recently developed condensation under the glass and Omega slapped me with a repair bill of £607.94, despite never having used the watch for its much billed 'action man' activities. I find it staggering that a luxury brand watch requires such a massive overhaul after only three years and with only sedentary use. Would you, for instance, expect to spend over £15,000 in repairs on a £30,000 three year old BMW car – I think not. Water resistant to 300M – surely this watch has one purpose in life – to keep water out! I am told by Omega that the seal has broken and this is not a manufacturing fault but wear and tear – in other words, it is down to me and my lifestyle. If I wanted a watch that would only last three years, why on earth would I pay nearly £1,200? If the seal is so easily broken, what constitutes the £1160 price tag on an Omega Seamaster? Obviously not the engineering. If I had used this for diving I could be dead. If I were Omega (a world class brand) and I was presented with such a defective model after only three years, I would so embarrassed I would either replace the watch or repair it free of charge. If you do want to take a massive gamble and buy an Omega Seamaster, be prepared for costly annual bills to check and/or replace the seals. If I had been told by the Ernest Jones sales assistant this watch was going to be such a high maintenance hobby, I would have bought something much cheaper and more reliable.

“Omega Seamaster Professional ”

★★★☆☆

written by on 06/04/2012

Nice looking watch but disappointing. The band has failed twice resulting in the watch falling to the ground. I can no longer rely on it for any water activities. Secondly, it has never kept good time in spite of being overhauled. Very overrated I think, just a show watch. Owned 11 years. I've passed on any more of their timepieces....

After I lost my Rolex I thought I'd give another brand a try. The Omega Seamaster looked good After I lost my Rolex I thought I'd give another brand a try. The Omega Seamaster looked good After I lost my Rolex I thought I'd give another brand a try. The Omega Seamaster looked good plus I guess I bought into the 007 hype. Well after 14 mos of daily use but no abuse it sounded like loose screws, nuts and bolts were shaking inside. It was fixed under warranty but after reading others experience I don't have a good feeling about the future of this watch. 007 would not depend on this watch if his life depended on it.

“Very Expensive to Maintain and Questionable Reliability”

★★★☆☆

written by on 18/02/2012

I have owned this watch for several years and wear it about 1/3 of the time. When I first got it, the watch kept excellent time. The rotor was so finely balanced that I could sometimes feel it spinning like crazy when I walked down a step and the rotor was on the down swing. Less than a year after I bought it, one of the hands would not reset on the chronograph. I sent it in and they repaired it under warranty. The rotor never felt the same after and I should have made a big deal about it right away. It got to the point where it felt like it was clanking in there and wearing the watch normally was not enough to keep it wound. I basically wore it as a mechanical watch for a while (wound it each day). I decided to take it in to Omega (Aventura, FL) to have it checked out. Here is a copy of the estimate: Reference Description Quantity Sugg. Retail Acceptation O898CS3122 COMPLETE MAINT. SVC. MECH. CHRONOGRAPH 1 685.00 O72211511142RB BRIDGE FOR AUTOM. Total 7 1433.00 Items marked with * are optional, all remaining items are required The service alone is $685 and the mechanical bridge (required) cost $148. I refused the rest of the junk which would have brought the cost to $1433. I imagined a diving watch to be built like a tank and to run reliably. Maybe I am totally confused and should only wear it to cocktail parties to show it off. I do not baby the watch, nor do I feel I should have to. If this is how much it costs to maintain and this is how reliable it is going to be, this might be my last Omega. I appreciate the intricacies of fine mechanical movements, but I find it hard to justify their high prices and poor time keeping abilities compared to quartz watches. I am not talking about cheapy plastic watches, though I'm sure most of them keep better time than most automatic watches. Am I just crazy???

“My Planet Ocean Seamaster is slightly over 1 year old....”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 05/03/2011

My Planet Ocean Seamaster is slightly over 1 year old. It failed completely after 3 days of wear, and was ostensibly replaced. Have been wearing as my everyday watch for about 1 year. During the last month the watch has begun losing large amounts of time over night. Presently back at Omega for warranty repair. This is my first Omega. I own 15 high end mechanical watches, and have never had such an experience. From the string of comments below there is a design flaw which Omega apparently is unwilling to disclose- Steer clear of this watch!!!!

Pity about the experience you've had, I've had an Omega Seamaster for 15 years, although not the chronometer, without any major problem. The only thing that happened was the crown needed replacing around 6 years ago.

Got Omega Sea master 3 years ago. I am an advanced diver and have had the watch in for service 5 times. 3 times for picking up time. 2 times for flooding. It flooded 2 months ago and Omega lost the watch...they found it 4 days ago and have told me its not under warranty now. Worst watch and service experience I have ever had.
Not sure where to go with this now.

I recently bought an Omega Seamaster watch. The thing keeps stopping overnight which means I have to reset the time and date and manually wind it most mornings. I sent it back to Omega and they say there is nothing wrong with the watch but did replace some parts and oiled it. Just got it back and the watch stopped again overnight! I have a 10 year old seiko automatic that has never let me down. I am sorry I bought this watch, feel it was misrepresented because others seem to have the same problem and would like my money back! that

“I own an OMEGA Seamaster GMT. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 05/08/2010

I own an OMEGA Seamaster GMT.
While writing this, it is the THIRD time for repair due to big time deviations and stopping of the watch. Every time I need to 'fight' to get a warranty of 2 years on the repair (the fact that I don't just get it is already a sign that the quality is not that goood... otherwise it should be easy to give this). Three times failure, each time after ~1.5 years of use.

Next to that one time a spontaneous breakage of the wirstband.

And initial feedback from OMEGA front desk staff --> oh sir, you misused the watch..

Never an OMEGA anymore in my life. Lousy product quality, far below standard customer service.

written by on 18/06/2010

I have the automatic Seamaster, which was purchased as a gift for me. The watch never kept perfect time so about 5 years ago I sent it in to have it fixed. $300 later I had a watch that kept decent time. Recently however, the watch started gaining approximately 5 minutese ever couple of days. I called Omega and the said the watch is not under warranty so it will cost a minimum of $500 to repair. $500 to fix? I can buy a Timex for $30 that keeps better time than this Omega! I'm tempted to pay the $500 to fix and then just sell on Ebay.

I have had two Seamasters to date a Quartz James Bond blue face and now a Seamaster Chronograph diver in black, both fantastic and are design classics, very accurate and reliable, but the case and strap tend to scratch fairly easily.

“I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A AFORDABLE HIGH END WATCH....”

written by on 19/12/2009

I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A AFORDABLE HIGH END WATCH. THE ROLEX IS OBVIOUS BUT IS IT WORTH THE MONEY FOR JUST A DATE WATCH. I RECENTLY BOUGHT THE OMEGA SEAMASTER 300M MID SIZE AT A HIGH STREET JEWELLERS. FANTASTIC. IF A COMPANY CAN PRODUCE HIGH STANDARD WATCH THE PRICE £1860 THEN WHY BOTHER PAYING MORE FOR A SIMILLAR MOVEMENT. THE CO AXIAL MOVEMENT IS SO SMOOTH IT PUTS ROLEX MOVEMENT TO SHAME. THE QUALITY OF THE STEEL IS GREAT, THE LUME IS GREAT AND SO IS THE LOOK. YOU CAN NEVER GET IT WRONG. GREAT PIECE

“Bought my new black dial Omega Seamaster back in April...”

★★★★★

written by on 11/10/2009

Bought my new black dial Omega Seamaster back in April 2009. The Co-Axial revolution really is a revolution. In sharp contrast with all my other mechanical high-end watches, I have NEVER had to adjust the time on this Seamaster, it runs +1 second during the day and -1 second during the night, when it spends time on my nightstand. That makes it more accurate than even many of my quartz watches, and that while it takes a lot of abuse. I not only wear it to the gym and high-stress environments like the office, but actually use it for scuba diving. (Last month, whilst diving at Wreybury lake near London in horrific visibility conditions, my dive buddy told me "I couldn't see you, but I did see your watch and just followed that")
The white/blue Lume makes the watch stand out (all of a sudden, the old green lume on the blue dial Seamaster looks rather "vintage" or old-fashioned).
With the black dial, this Seamaster does rather look like the Rolex Submariner. I think that is intentional, with Omega essentially saying: "we have now produced a watch that is better than the Submariner, because it offers the same robustness, reliability, workmanship finish and accuracy, whilst costing significantly less".
