Amazingly bad. Never call you back. On hold every time for at least 20 minutes to pay number. Different departments with no idea of what each other does. Expensive insurance. Mind numbingly ineffective at answering questions. Basically...Never call you back, never deal with questions, dont even know how to change address et etc etc...If I could have given a less than ZERO rating I would have. I actually paid the £50 leaving fee just to leave them, I could not handle having to speak to such poor customer service anymore...I mean what kind of place in teh 21st century doesnt even have an email address you can write to. USELESS!

After accepting Insurance from Swinton (28/09/2011) and collecting my policy documents, I gleefully handed them over to the Bike Dealership. I was then told that the policy should have started on 30th September & not the 1st October (My Error) The lady - Anna Marie - at Swinton could not have been more helpful. After spending prob the best part of two hours on the phone - this was done at their expense - my policy was sorted out. Due to the fact that the date had changed it worked out slightly more expensive but nervertheless sorted out in a professional, friendly manner. So on that score I could not fault customer service.

my brother used swinton and he used my boyfriends credit card to do his £50 deposit for insurance not knowing they would keep his card on record and my brother phoned up swinton saying that he is cancelling his insurance and the person on the phone said they sorted it. when it came to the £50 money for cancelling well they had an error and instead of cancelling they kept the insurance open making my brother pay. this all came to just under £900. well they tried using my brothers card to get all the money out of it but it didn't work so instead they took it out of my boyfriends account and then he complained and they said they are taking his card off records and he was refunded his money. but another time they tried again taking it out of my brothers account and it again didn't work so they took it out of my boyfriends account making him overdrawn. my boyfriend had no money for five days as he had to go down to his bank and ask them to sort it out and he got all his money back and we have not heard anything since..... dont ever use swinton

after only having policy for 2 weeks had to take bike off the road. rang to cancel insurance and expected to pay a cancelation charge but when the robot of a customer service operator had finished adding up all the extras to go with the £50 cancellation charge it was going to be MORE expensive to cancel than to continue. DO NOT USE SWINTON BIKE INSURANCE. it may look like a cheap quote but to start with they add a £20 service charge to the quote then bit extra to pay by direct debit it would be cheaper to go with someone else . i dread to imagine what making a claim would be like !!!! their customer service reps must have to go on a course to be that rude !!!

I initially chose the Swinton Policy via the GO Compare website because it was cost effective. I was directed to the Swinton web page, after filling in my online application I was at the final page and noticed that the wording said that I had claimed no claims discount for over 4yrs of Motorcycle insurance. I had mistakenly believed that no claims discount from my Car policy would have qualified me ....no problems I used the well highlighted 'Go back' button and unticked the box moved forward check all information carefully was pleasantly surprised that it had not affected the price quote and then submitted the details. When I received my confirmation e-mail it stated that I had no claims discount of 4yrs on motorcycles despite having unticked the box. Never mind I thought I will give Swinton a call (within 2 mins of submitting )to let them know that there had been a mistake with their system. I was told that I had to pay a £50 admin charge to alter the insurance! No matter how I tried I could not get the lady on the phone to understand that the web page had allowed me to back page to the section where I had made an error and then allowed me to submit so if it allows me to do this then THEY were at fault and not me. She said that if I needed to make an alteration I would have to scrap the application and re-start all over again (seems a bit harsh for just a tick box!!) So in summary It was deemed to be my fault and the charge stands. I later spoke to a supervisor who upheld the operators view although she did allow me a discount on the charge (how generous!!)

RUBBISH - Pay the extra and go through someone else, been trying to get through to them for ages re mistakes they made, don't think customer service comes inclusive with the policy. Useless and I wish I had gone elsewhere.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS ...sold motorcycle after 7 months insurance phoned to inform them and they immediatley requested a further £50 cancellation fee and refunded £9 for 5 months left ,, said if i didnt pay £41 in 14 days will send round a debt collection agency. i did ask if i could continue ins on another bike but was told no you have to pay £41 and take out a new policy , went elsewhere as they obviously do not want your business. ### AVOID AT ALL COSTS ###

Very poor customer service , money grabbers and avoid at all costs , they fail to tell you when you take the policy that they will automatically reniew the policy after the 12 months. recieved the letter to tell me too cancel if i didnt want to 2 days after the renewal date so they had already had £56 depsit and they wanted £86 cancellation fee STAY AWAY !

swinton AVOID AT ALL COSTS, got an online quote for a 1962 bsa 650 for £61.37 paid in full, once they had my money the troubles began, the policy came & said the bike was uninsured if motorcycle is over 29 years old ??? its 48 years old AS TOLD IN QUOTE ???, then another phone call = TOLD your 4 YEARS no claims bonus from your previous insurance company does not count as it was a classic policy ???? you owe us ANOTHER £85 or we cancel policy & you pay cancellation fee, what a bunch of conners

I took a third party only policy through this company on a 1981 XL250. I paid the first months premium of £6. Four days after taking out the policy the bike was stolen.I never made a claim for the value of the bike. I telephoned Swinton bikes and the lady told me I could cancel under the "cooling off" terms and get my £6 back. I never received the £6 back but far worse than that was that Swindle bikes stole a further £70.56 (the whole years insurance) by removing it from my bank account whilst I was in Laos (7000 miles away) on holiday. My bank (LloydsTSB) has informed me that because I paid the first months premium with my debit card Swindle bikes can help themselves to any amount of money with or without my authorization. Lloyds TSB say it is my fault for giving them my debit card number, I have had to cancel my debit card and Swindle bikes still refuse to admit they did anything wrong and Lloyds TSB are a total waste of oxygen In short if you use Swinton you WILL get Swindled, they will dip into your bank account whenever they feel like it. Swindle bikes have refunded £50 of the £70 they fraudulently stole from me but still reckon I owe them more money - THEY ARE THE WORST BUNCH OF L*ARS.DONT INSURE YOUR BIKE WITH THEM.

I can only echo the comments above. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
Changed froma BMW1100RT to a YBR125 after 2 months of policy. They Wanted to charge me more than the online quote price. if i cancelled i ended up with virtually nothing. If your planning to change bikes, ring these people by phone or deal with them then go elsewhere.

I chose Swinton Bikes from a comparison website because they offered the policy I wanted for a good price. I received the policy quickly but had to ring them regarding endorsements on it which were based on details they had conjured up from somewhere, but weren't what I had given them. Waited over half an hour to speak to a human being. They also requested proof of no claims which I posted first class by return. Now I am bombarded with calls to my phone (which is switched off) after I told them I cannot be contacted by phone as I am not allowed personal calls at work. They don't even have the courtesy to leave a message and when I try calling back I can't get through. Email is perfectly acceptable for making contact and I requested this be used. I work in insurance myself and contact 90% of my clients by email to avoid irritating them, so do a lot of my contacts who work at brokers and direct insurance companies so I fail to see why Swinton aren't capable of it. My policy isn't even due for inception until 16th July but it's already paid for and I'm stuck with it. I wish I'd stayed with Devitts even though they cost twice as much this year. I've been with them the last 3 years and they were spot on.

I chose Swinton from a comparison site because I was in a rush and they were cheapest. As there is a 14 days cooling period I thought it was ok to buy now, and compare when I had a minute. I went to cancel 5 days later (after a better deal from Just Motorcycle Insurance), I was told Swinton would charge me a £50 cancellation fee! Apparently this was in small print which I didn't notice at all AND even though I chose £0 excess on the comparison site, their 'compulsory' excess of £400 - also in small print - was not what I wanted to pay if I had an accident! More than 2 x other insurers. I will NEVER go with Swinton again out of principal. If they are this sneaky on application, can you imagine if I need to claim? Fingers crossed I won't!

i was sold an insurance that i could add any bike to for 1% of the bikes value, when i tried to add my triumph tiger 650 i was told its not on their list and it would have to be a seperate insurance. i cancelled the policy and it was agreed i was mis-sold the policy and a refund with no cancellation fee would be put back onto my card. i have just to ring them again as they have carged me the cancellation fee of £55.00.
i would have like to have known there was a list that if your bike is not on it tough you cant have that type of policy.
i am a member of the triumph owners club and will put my feeling to the next meeting. i will never use swinton again staff were aragant and un helpful, bordering on rude. carol nash dose it for me.

I wish I had checked this site before buying. I got stung for the £50 cancellation fee for cancelling on a bike sold 3 months before the end of the 12 months period. How can they justify charging £31 more for 3 months less insurance? I presume if I cancelled on the last day a day less would cost £50. They deserve the rating given by the other reviewers.
