“Tesco bank car insurance DON'T DO IT. ”

What a rip off!!This has to be the worst company to insurance your car with in 2024. I am a Tesco employee currently on Mat leave with my first baby and this year even with a 3 years no claims bonus and my staff discount Tesco have decided to more than double my car insurance payments. From £912 to £1,884! whats even more shocking is that other companies have quoted half of this price for the exact same coverage. This is the thanks Tesco gives to it hard working employees after we worked through Covid and have stayed loyal it the brand for years. It's a disgrace and absolute rip off. Tesco you should be ashamed.

“5 weeks still waiting for the damage to be assessed”

written by 19sam86 on 22/01/2024

A man reversed into my unoccupied parked vehicle so I am claiming a non fault claim. its now been 5 weeks and I still have no date for my car to be taken in for repair and not even had the damage has been assessed. I've phoned and emailed Tesco multiple times but they just say they are waiting on FMG to assess the repairs and arrange a booking in date. Its totally unacceptable to be waiting this long to even get a date for your car to be repaid and to make things worse the at fault drivers car was taken for repair a week after he hit my car. I'm thinking about cancelling the claim and going with the at fault drivers insurance instead. I may even cancel my tesco car insurance altogether and I will never use them again.

“Wot insurance?? ”

written by ryStone389 on 30/10/2023

There is nothing to like about this company. I am still without my car 4 weeks on from the accident. No amount of phoning them or writing letters progresses the process. I feel sorry for the staff, because it’s probably badly managed further up the food chain. Nothing good to say about Tesco unfortunately. Avoid like the plague. Biggest mistake of my life dealing with this idiotic bunch of clowns.

Called to cancel my insurance today as it is no longer required and I was advised I had to pay a £40 cancellation fee. So not only has the company received 100’s of pounds from me they still want more. Please be aware before you purchase!!

“Incapable of insured windscreen replacement ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Marrton on 31/07/2023

It took two weeks for the Tesco appointed contractor to attend my Volvo XC60 cracked windscreen, they brought an unsuitable screen without the existing sensors which I refused. The contractor can not obtain, and can not say when the will obtain, the correct windscreen. Tesco offer no solution, no alternative effective contractor, no ‘courtesy’ vehicle. They refused to accept my complaint and instruct me to take the matter up with their appointed contractor. Their windscreen insurance is worthless.

Hid in the small print that a was compelled to a voluntarily £250 excess on top of a mandatory £200 excess hence when I made a claim was stung for an unexpected £450! Was not offered a courtesy car even though I had an upgrade option of courtesy car on my policy. Their phone line is always 30mins to get through and then ‘unexpectedly’ get cut off due to system issues. Same with the website, try make changes to be given a system issue and error unable to make any changes and force you to phone and then told they want £25 admin fee! They are a joke and would advise strongly you place your business elsewhere preferably with an established and quality car insurance company.

“Ok until you have to make a claim.”

written by Zulf666 on 26/06/2023

I had contents stolen form my car including £200 sunglasses and a PlayStation unit. Tesco said they couldn't put a price on the PlayStation as the unit was old. I provided the installation invoice which cost £1600 but after 8 months of chasing they just kept telling me it is with the underwriters. In the end I had to change the claim to a notification only as the renewal was increasing my insurance by £200 as a pending claim. Absolutely awful service, I will be complaining to the financial ombudsman as I have all the emails and telephone logs made. Please don't save a few quid with these clowns, go to a proper insurance company. I insured 2 vehicles with Tesco for the last 4 years. This was the first time I had to make a claim. Never again.

“Outrageous”

written by Lukas76 on 28/04/2023

Tesco sent me an insurance renewalI went online and found 3 companies which could save me upto £300. My insurance policy was on automatic renwal so I had to ring upto cancell my policy with them. After listening to a sales man for 15 minutes trying to convince me i was making a big mistake leaving Tesco and explaining he could not offer a reduction on the policy price I got fed up of pleading and politly told him I was terminating my insurance and asked him to cancell my renewal. " wweks later on the renewal dat at 3.00 am they charged my credit card with nearly £900. I rang them up the same morning and was told this cannot happen if I had rung them up they would have a record of my call they record all telephone calls. He went off and checked his records and could find no record of my call but would refund my payment but it could take upto 9 days to refund. I have proof of the telephone call and the duration of the call. I have now cut up my Tesco Card and will not buy anthing from Tesco again. JUST A SMALL

Car Insurance, The worst company ever to deal with, keep on harassing by sending emails and letters with stupid demands and asking you to call them. Will never use this company again and would not recommend any one to get in their trap.

“Avoid avoid avoid”

★☆☆☆☆

written by BraylonDudley on 03/03/2023

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! My wife was insured through Tesco. Had a fender bender, new bumper and bonnet needed. No structural damage, confirmed by mechanic. Tesco's took almost 2 weeks to assess the damage, during which she was told twice it would be cat c and could go ahead with repairs. Got repairs done and an MOT to prove roadworthiness only to be told it was cat b and is considered unroadworthy, all from some photos.... refusing to reassess, Customer service appalling. We've spent a fortune on cabs to get to work whilst waiting for a response, God knows how many phonecalls, gone ahead with repairs as agreed on 2 calls and now we're being told it's unroadworthy and we cannot drive it. DO NOT INSURE WITH TESCO!!!

“Woeful - 10 working days for a basic decision”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 13/01/2023

My vehicle received quite a bit of damage when I hit a pothole. I drove it to my normal garage and reported to Tesco insurance. It took 35 minutes for the call to be answered. I have now been advised that it will take 10 working days for the quote to be looked at (the authorisation is outsourced). Spoke to call taker about amount of time being unreasonable who reminded me that they are busy and I'm not the only person waiting (not to mention speaking over me in a bid to wrap the call up!) Tesco will ultimately win this one as it's easier for me to fund repairs and get my car back tomorrow and not wait the 10 working days for their assistance.

My daughter crashed her car over 4 weeks ago and is still waiting for it to be assessed and in the meantime has not been given a courtesy car which she needs as she is a teacher and is relying on lifts from people. This is an appalling service!! You ring them and they are totally unhelpful. Do not use!! I have never known such poor service. Well I say service they are not providing one.

“Poor Customer Service ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 299Fox on 24/09/2022

I have been a Tesco Car insurance customer for many years. This year I bought a new car and wanted to add it to my policy - I wanted to keep my old car temporarily as I was selling it privately. I called Tesco and looked online, it was cheaper to add my new car through a new policy, online, than add to existing on the phone. I have no idea why this should be the case but we agreed I would do it online. At no point was I told I would have to pay a cancellation fee when I sold my old car and cancelled the policy. So today I contacted Tesco and advised I had sold my old car and wanted to end that policy, guess what they said I have to pay a cancellation fee of nearly £40. This is despite the fact that 1) I am still a Tesco customer and 2) They knew what I was trying to achieve when I added a new policy for a new car but didn't advise me I would be charged when I sold the old one. There is no logic in this as they will lose the business on the new car with me as well

“Awful unacceptable service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Raymg238 on 11/08/2022

Tesco Car Insurance. A No blame minor crash happened in February. After Tescos approved repairers had the car twice, it came back to me in a worse state than it was in after the crash. The paint job they did has peeled off, the car looks a complete mess and the air conditioning that was reported as making strange noises after the crash was never looked at. It has now blown up completely six months after the crash and the headlight that was reported at the time, is still misaligned making driving at night difficult. I can’t use the car now in this hot weather without air conditioning and I can’t sell the car in this condition. I’ve had to do all the chasing around getting the remedial work done (which hopefully will now happen end of August), they totally wiped their hands of the case, leaving me to sort their mess out. I’ve raised numerous “official complaints” which they said would be looked after at management level and all they can do is say sorry it shouldn’t be like this. There is no way a very minor accident in February should still be dragging on into September now at the earliest. It’s disgusting and totally unacceptable. When(if) my car is finally repaired to my satisfaction I shall refer their behaviour to the Ombudsman.

“ZERO STARS”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jackril2002 on 23/07/2022

Avoid avoid avoid. Young drivers should steer well clear of this car insurance policy. The prices are sky high and what they don't tell you is if you use all of you mileage allowance before the end of the first year and something happens like you lose your job or the car goes off the road, they will charge you for the remainder of the insurance. The customer service is utterly disgusting. Very nasty people to deal with. My car had to be taken off the road with a major engine problem. Coupled with the ridiculous insurance premiums, fuel price increases and having lost my job, I contact Tesco to tell them about my issue. They didn't care and just said if you cancel we want over £400.

“please stay away!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by bwAshworth1970 on 19/05/2022

i would give 0 stars if i could. the engineer came out to fit my black box but told us he wouldn’t do it as my car is “modified”, and that tesco does not insure modified cars. i was unaware of this as i wouldn’t necessarily class a STICKER as a modification. we were then told that if i were to remove the “modification” they would insure me. i paid £50 to get the “modification” removed, only to be told they would be unable to insure me whether i had it removed or not, despite being told otherwise. i only bought insurance with them as the quotes were very cheap, well you definitely get what you pay for with tesco bank insurance. customer service is also appalling. tried discussing a complaint on the phone, and they hung up on me. please go elsewhere do not waste your money and time.

“Stay away!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Sebian07 on 05/01/2022

Hello guys, I'm extremely disappointed with Tesco car insurance!!!!  I had my car insurance form 20/12/20 with Tesco bank, on 22/01/21 someone hit my car and run away, luckily my mother heard the banging noise and managed to take a picture of his no plate. I've made the claim, on 18122021 I received the renewal proposal which was way more expensive than the previous one, when I've checked my insurance account I noticed that the renewal is automatic, so that made me ask myself what kind of trick is that (there is a cancellation fee). So I called customer service to cancel the renewal and ask for my no claims bonus proof, which they send with 0 years instead of 2 years. I've contacted customer support they asked me to call the claim department, claim department asked me to call the customer support department. At some point, the claim support had more "patience" with my case and decided to open "open my eyes" So because they didn't had enough time (almost 1 year without a few days) to resolve my claim the big company can't provide me with No-Claims Bonus proof until the claim is closed, but if I really need those 2 years of no claims bonus proof I need to pay the difference of money to cover my car repair (I paid £450 few days later after I made the claim as they requested, not saying that the voluntary excess it was only £250) the damage of my car was almost nothing: the front grill cracked, the plate no holder and 1cm scratch. £1300 for that ?? that is ridiculous for a 10-year-old car with almost no damage, they didn't paint the bumper! I still have my old scratches! So basically I would need to pay +£2000 for insurance now instead of £800 because they didn't manage to resolve an easy claim with pictures proof. First, they said after a few months that were negotiating with the wrong insurance company, couple of months ago they found the right insurance company but the communication is very slow. Jokers !!! I think that all this was made on purpose because greediness purposes. I've made a complaint on Financial Ombudsman Service website, I'd like a bit of advice from someone that had a similar experience. Thanks

Ever felt like you have being shafted as that’s exactly how I feel, because we have for 1 months direct debit. Rang to cancel my car insurance renewal today. We have made 12 monthly payments already. Unfortunately our 13th payment came out Nov 1st 2021 (today) and the actual car insurance expires Nov 7th 2021 which we have already made the 12 monthly payments on, as you never pay for car insurance retrospectively. So I asked if we can have todays direct debit back as we have already made the 12 payments for the 1st year and it was just unfortunate that the 13th payment which covers the first month of the new year that I am cancelling came out today. No matter which way I described it to the person at Tesco Finance, he simply could not grasp or did not want to grasp, that this 13th payment is for the next 12 months renewal which I am cancelling. In the end I gave up frustrated as this individual (being diplomatic) simply could not grasp simple multiplication. They need to employee call centre staff who can do simple mathematic calculations. I wont be using or recommending them, quite the opposite.

After paying the fixed amount for the year with a black box and the driver of the vehicle continuously speeds, what happens? Does the premium price go up the following year? Or does the insurance company cancel the contract?

Unfortunately this is not uncommon. As soon as the car is driven off the forecourt there are depreciation costs. There is an additional insurance policy that be taken out for new cars to cover this. Not much help now I know. If your daughter had a finance agreement then check the small print also if there was temporary ins cover on the vehicle to start with it surely lasts a month so check the terms of that.
