Put a block on my card for no reason, then it took ages to get it lifted. Horrible customer service. Staff could not care less how much you are inconvenienced.

“Be aware that the credit limit is not a hard limit”

★★★☆☆

written by REvans1957 on 05/06/2018

I took out a Tesco credit card because my credit rating meant it was difficult for me to get a card with other banks. They gave me a £1000 credit limit, but I was not aware that this is not a hard limit and it will let you go over the £1000 and they will then stick you with a £12 fee even if you only went over by a couple of pounds. I rang their customer services and was told that this is because Mastercard let big stores charge your card without checking your credit limit. So they were basically passing the buck blaming the stores and Mastercard and that it wasn't their fault so were unwilling to refund the charges. They don't even offer very much in the way of rewards for using the card, you get 1 clubcard point (worth a penny) for every £8 you spend, and it has to be in one transaction, if you spend £5 in one shop and then £3 in another you get no points at all for these 2 transactions.

“Misleading service, terrible treatment of customers”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Sammidy on 14/01/2018

Have a perfect credit rating, had not used tesco credit card for 7 months and the direct debit ceased automatically and they did not tell me (all online with my mobile number and email) and they could not mange to inform me. i owed £22 ponds on my cardI and they sent me a Default sum notice for £12, I cancelled both my cards because of this. I had been a customer for over 30 years and never put a foot wrong. The worst service I have ever experienced with a bank in all my life. Anyone out there thinking of using Tesco banking - DON'T! No matter how good you are you will end up with a bed credit rating through no fault of your own.

“Rude customer services”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Milo85 on 12/07/2017

Very rude customer services agent. I needed to change my DD payment date, which appears to be a complete pain to do and complicated. I told her I didn't really understand and was met with "Well if you just listen" in a rude tone. Phone swiftly put down and current looking to transfer my balance.

“I pay a huge interest despite interest free period”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 63Wilson on 15/11/2016

I had a £3000 debt on my previous credit card due to unexpected legal matters. I was advised to transfer balance onto an interest free credit card to be able to repay the debt. I received offer from Tesco and was accepted. They charged me £90 fee for the transfer which was a lot of money for me but I thought I would save on the interest. I was shocked when they immediately started charging me interest which is higher than the actual minimum repayment. I thought I was going to get rid of debt and instead I am going downhill. I can not possibly afford to pay their high interest, much higher than the previous bank charged me. I wish I never switched. What shall I do?

“Charges when there is a nil balance on the card”

★☆☆☆☆

written by djPerry381 on 19/03/2016

Apalled!! I paid off the balance on my tesco clubcard credit card and they are now demanding additional payments despite the balance being zero. Please think twice before you decide to take out a tesco clubcard credit card. Even when your balance is zero they make charges. I shall never shop there again, and I will tell the "whole world" to choose any other credit card provider than Tesco. I thought they were an honourable organisation. The reality is "AWFUL!! I will never shop there again, and I will make sure my entire network, both "business, voluntary organisations, charities and personal contacts" know how they operate!! I did everything right, I spoke with their adviser. I paid off the balance and the person I dealt with was lovely. but now they are charging me £50 on the card I had already cancelled many weeks before!! They are not a nice organisation at all"

“worst customer experience eva”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AlexaMolloy1949 on 15/03/2016

I have been with tesco credit card for a long time.. I spend they bill me all good.. But when I have cause to call them I experience the worst customer service ever.. They cancelled my card last Friday..as there was a transaction that I did not recognise.. They immediately cancelled my card and said another would be with me in 8 days.. 11 days on I have not received a card so I called only to be told that a number had been issued but a card not received. They would reissue and I would have to wait another 8 days!! I rely heavily on my card and I told them this when they cancelled. They can not send it out earlier even though they have admitted it is their mistake and if I hadn't called it would never have been realised. I am so angry.. Anyone suggest another card where you actually feel valued and listened to as a customer?

“LIED IN ANUAL REVIEW”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JavionFitzgerald on 17/06/2015

I received my annual review and told they would be INCREASING my interest rates based on my credit score. I was shocked as I've been building my score and it has gone from poor to good. When I phoned to query the increase, it turns out that the increase was nothing to do with my credit score, as their letter states, but because they need to make more money. My score is now good enough to take advantage of a 0% balance transfer so goodbye Tesco! Oh and also they want to charge you to phone them if you have any questions. Had problems with these guys during the time I was with them. Got them resolved in the end but it is a long drawn out process as you can't email them.

“Why So Negative”

★★★★★

written by 260Mooney on 04/02/2015

I have read a large amount of negative reviews on here today.. Which I have to disagree with. I applied for a Credit Card with Tesco, the application process was very quick.. I was asked to provide signed proof of address documents which I did, these were accepted and returned to me within 2 days. Which I personally thought was very quick. I received my pin in the post late last week and am awaiting my credit card now. I cannot comment on what the rest of the experience will be like, however up until now and all of the customer reps I have spoke to have been more than helpful.

“Bad statements and penalties even when they say there...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by kyBaldwin137 on 29/01/2015

As a Tesco Customer Club Card points were a great incentive. Getting points even when not shopping at Tesco seemed a great idea - so we got the Tesco credit card. We do get more points, of course, but the statements are dreadfully formatted - not like MasterCard, Barclaycard or any other I've seen; you're never sure quite where you are. Through a mis-communication my daughter tried to put university fees on the card - the amount would have exceeded our limit, so they blocked it and stopped the cards. I rang, they explained, I apologised and asked if I'd be penalised - I was told a firm no, because the charge had not applied to the account. Two days later I get the notice of the penalty. I rang 'customer services' - no apology, just, it was a chargeable event so you'll be charged. A little research led me to the Santander 123 card, and the BA cards for Avios points - much better service!

“Card Suspended Without Notice”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 18/08/2014

I paid my Tesco Clubcard Credit Card bill in full, in fact I overpaid by a few pence by rounding up to a whole pound, on 2nd August - the payment was due on 6th August. On 17th August I was checking my bank account as there seemed to be more money there than I had expected, and I found that although the bank had receipted the credit card bill as paid, they had in fact failed to pay it. I confirmed this by ringing Tesco Clubcard Credit Card, and on entering my account number I was put through to their Recoveries and Legal Action Team, who informed me of the charges and interest they were applying to my account and told me not to use the card again as it was now suspended. I enquired as to why they had not told me anything about this, and they replied that a letter would come out with my next bill to let me know that the card had been stopped a week earlier - that would have been handy next time I filled up with petrol and had my card declined. They have refused to accept that I was under the impression that the bill had been paid, the bank had receipted the bill, and only care about collecting more money from me. Think about it Tesco, I contacted you, why could you not contact me.

“Appalling application process”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ooRuiz68 on 11/08/2014

Don't bother applying for a Tesco credit card unless you are prepared to jump through hoops backwards whilst reciting the Marseillaise. My copy documents have been rejected twice now - the first time for very petty reasons, the second time even pettier AND they moved the goalposts for what was required (HINT: if you DO decide to apply despite my best efforts at warning you off, and you choose to send in a copy of your driving license, send a copy of the photo card part even though they don't ask for it). Oh and don't expect anything to be processed efficiently.

“ Do Not Trust Them Record All Calls With Them”

★☆☆☆☆

written by yabbyou on 28/06/2014

I have just had my first issue with my card of a company called Avast taking £39.99 without any permission and i called Tesco credit card service to help, i have had the card for a number of years and use it and spend a small fortune every month and clear it off every month in full we are talking thousands a month.Well i thought that i would get some understanding or even just a little help but i was met by an obnoxious man called Adam who met me with an attitude that was argumentative and most definitely passive aggressive, when i said i wanted him to call me back on another line so i could record what he was saying he told me this was not possible as this was only for incoming calls, so i called on my other line while keeping Adam on the line and the other representative told me she could call me back straight away this is from the same call centre so luckily Adam was listening to this and because i was now recording the other conversation now miraculously said he could call me.I only explain this to let you know this is where the so called customer service begins with a total disregard for the truth. So my first issue led to a disgusting and arrogant experience from Tesco Credit Card Services and i will never use there services again, i have several cards with them and will cancel them all.Do-not trust them as they will blatantly lie to you and please record them if you have anything important to say.I will make sure i use anything to do with Tescos as little as physically as possible if at all.

“Awful”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Mckinley475 on 26/06/2014

After being told I had arrears on my credit card due to a payment of £25 which needed to be paid every month which was sent out in a letter I did not receive. I have tried for an hour to talk to a person however all numbers are automated and don't have the information I need. It is an absolute joke that it is this difficult to talk to a person over the phone about my account. I will be paying off and cancelling, have had nothing but problems since receiving the credit card. Back to Lloyds.

“Do yourself a favour and get a card from someone else!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Adrienney243 on 15/06/2014

I don't usually write reviews but the appalling customer service I've just received from Tesco Credit cards has left me so frustrated and angry that I feel compelled to warn others not to bother taking out a card with this company if it can be avoided. I telephoned to cancel my Tesco credit card after being a model customer for over 14 years. I say model customer because I have always spent within my limit and paid on time - For the first few years I made minimum payments so made max profits for them and for the latter years, being financially more secure and sensible, I have paid the balance off in full. It's fair to say that I've a proven financial track record with them. The only reason I ever use this card is to accumulate clubcard points. I have therefore put aside in my mind past incidents because, customer service aside, the "product" seemed to work. The final straw came however after I received a rude letter in the post and incurred a £12 admin fee for accidentally spending over the card limit for the first time in 14 years. In spite of the fact that I now earn 5 times what I did 14 years ago, Tesco have never increased my credit limit but this never bothered me because I generally only racked up a couple of thousand max before I paid the balance off in full. However, we ordered a new bathroom last month and, thinking of the points I would get, put the deposit on my Tesco card. Unfortunately this happened in the same statement period that I booked the family holiday, using the same card. To add to it, I bought Tesco petrol that month so chose to abandon my much loved and far better Santander 123 card which gives me 3% cashback in favour of double clubcard point. The result was that I went over my limit by about £100. It didn't cross my mind that I would go over my limited because (a) it had never happened before and (b) my other credit cards are twice this limit and I didn't realise it was so low. on receipt of the rude letter and £12 fine, I wanted to tell somebody from customer services what had happened so they could assure me I was a valued customer, issue out apologies, perhaps even refund the £12 and persuade me to keep giving them custom. Surely my financial track record would count for something? I couldn't have been more deluded. To say the woman I spoke to couldn't care less was an understatement. In desperation I told her about the time when the took my card insurance off me two consecutive months in a row (which was them not the insurer) which took two years to sort out. I also told her about the time I was stranded abroad in a restaurant with no means of paying the bill because they had blocked my card for no apparent reason. On that occassion, even after 5 long phone calls on my mobile to the UK (crying on two of them), it still took two weeks after I got back to the UK for my card to work again. Meanwhile I had to lend money from a v kind stranger to get through the rest of the holiday! The customer service lady clearly didn't care and/or had no power to do anything about it. "So you want to close your account do you? Yes, that's fine" was all she had to say. I completely agree with other reviews on this site which say they don't care about customer loyalty and have appalling customer services. Save yourself the aggravation and use somebody else.

You went on holiday with one credit card? Firstly, did you inform them that you were going on vacation... I have a couple of cards, you should always have two just in case one a situation happens,in your case no means of paying for a meal. I also take money when I am away and leave it in the hotel safe. I only take enough to eat and drink. I maybe wrong saying this however, you come across as living of your cards. How on earth can you go over your credit limit. To be fair, you deserve to be charged the over limit fee. However, the poor service that you received is not. I would of complained to the executives office and insisted the rude advisors to be reprimanded. I have been a tesco credit card customer for approximately three years and ain't had any transactions declined. Nor have I been stupid enough to max my cards out. For future reference could I suggest you take at least some money with you when you are travelling even if it's only a couple of hundred pounds even if it's a pre paid one. Learn by your own mistakes and move on. I do recommend Nationwide

“Appalling customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by drsa12 on 08/06/2014

I took out the Tesco Clubcard credit card last week due to the 18 month 0% interest on purchases offer. Received the card and PIN in good time. During my first weekend of use my card got blocked half way during the day leaving me unable to pay for goods the family needed. Tried calling the helpline numerous times but was put off by answer message that they are experiencing extremely long wait times. So called later after 8pm, the security team were out of hours and call centre unable to unblock my card. Called next day at 10 am (Sunday) - the in house security team were similarly unable to unblock the card and I need to wait to Monday. This is despite me confirming all the security questions and the transactions undertaken. Ridiculous. In short this is an amateur service provided by Tesco bank. Do NOT take this credit card out if you are looking for a reliable bank with good out of hours customer service. I have never before experienced this level of poor customer service and out of hours support with a credit card.

“Tesco Bank Credit Card Treat Loyal Customer Badly”

★☆☆☆☆

written by andy221 on 24/04/2014

After several years of paying my bill on time and in full every month, I was 1 DAY late this time and got hit with £41 interest charges. I put over £25k through the card last year (£2k per month) and always pay as soon at the bill comes. I spoke to Tesco Bank Customer Services and they really could not have cared less! I cannot argue that they are within their rights to enforce the charge but you would think that they would make some allowance for my years of good payment plus, of course, the fact that I was only 1 DAY late!!! Needless to say Tesco Bank and Tesco as an organisation has lost me as a customer ... but then everyone seems to be deserting Tesco these days anyway!

“Appalling Customer Services”

★★★☆☆

written by BendyB on 08/03/2014

I have held a Tesco Credit Card for many years. I have taken advantage of the Tesco Clubcard deals and to date I have been very pleased with the card. I always pay off my balance in full every month and have never paid interest or charges. When my previous card expired after three years I was not automatically sent a replacement. I rang Customer Services and I was sent a new card but it was only valid for one year. The same has happened this year and when I contacted Customer Services a supervsor had to authorises the issue of my card. I have written to Tesco Bank twice over two months asking why I am not being issued automatically with new cards. To date I have not had a reply. When my current card expires I have no intention of contacting Tesco Bank for a new card I will apply at another bank. It is as if they do not want me as a customer. Tesco Clubcard Deals are good but given the poor attentionto customer care I feel you have to draw a line.
