“Unfriendly and against customer interest ”

Unfortunately we were not treated friendly and have been offered service against our interest. The car we received already had 22! known damages. Especially critical: the doorlock was broken. Further on the tires turned out to be really down and dangerous because of punctures all over the front tires. Getting them to change to car for a safe car with regular tires was a real struggle including an assistance that they send to pick up the car without delivering a replacement. Dear Customer,

We are sorry that you were unhappy with the service you received. If a client takes one of our low cost packages which don´t include full coverage then we do provide a comprehensive damage report so that every defect on the body of the car is noted ensuring that the client is not responsible for anything that didn´t happen during their rental period.

As we list all damages over 10mm for the clients´peace of mind, the list can appear like the car has a lot of damages even when actually the car is in very good condition with just minor imperfections listed.

All of our cars will have completely safe and working locks and if a lock is damaged and does not work then it would be replaced prior to renting the car. However sometimes cars sustain cosmetic damage to the outer part of the lock from someone either putting the key in badly or from somone attempting to break in to the car. This is recorded as "damage to the lock", again so that the client is not held responsible but is never more than cosmetic damage.

We would never rent a car with "punctures all over the tyres". We check all tyres between rentals for condition and safety.

The level of assistance cover provided does depend on the package purchased. For example, our Ultimate all-inclusive package has complete roadside assistance and replacement car included. Other packages may not include this. It is very important to check what you have included when you make the booking.

Alquile un coche en el aeropuerto de Bilbao 19 días, para entregármelo tardaron una hora y media y cuando me lo iba a llevar el maletero estaba lleno de arena y el tapizado de los asientos estaban muy manchados. Booked car online to include ultimate insurance. We did this extra insurance after reading many horror stories about other hire companies and excessive charges. We were promptly picked up at airport. NEVER EVER BOOK WITH DRIVALIA, they are not to be trusted and blame others for their shoddy service. Our flight was delayed by 5 hours and we arrived in Alicante at around 2 in the morning. All the car hire companies were there to meet passengers apart from Drivalia. They went home and left us stranded. They blame the agent for not passing on our flight number and contact details. Dear Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. As stated on our website and on our condtions, our office is not open for collections 24 hours although we do accept bookings after hours for a small additional fee. If a client makes a reservation for a car within our normal collection hours and is then delayed we always wait for their plane.

The only time we would not wait for a client is if we do not know they are delayed because no flight number has been given when the booking is made. As you can understand, if for example a client books a car for 22:00 and does not put their flight number then we will be there at 22:00 and we will always wait a minimum of an hour for that client but we won´t know they are delayed if we don´t have a flight number so at some point we have to assume a "no show". We contact all brokers on a daily basis with lists of clients who have not provided their flight numbers and ask them to contact the client to provide this. Clearly if we do not ever receive a flight number we do not know you are delayed and I can only assume this is the case from what you say.

I presume also that if your delay was 5 hours then your booking was very early in the evening. Usually in cases like this, if a client is going to be significantly delayed they tend to call us to advise us. If we have a flight number this is not required but certainly if we don´t have a number then the client does need to advise us if they won´t be coming until the middle of the night when we are closed.

Deposits are as stated on the booking conditions and all we can say regarding the deposit amount is that if you would like to email our customer service team with your contract number they can provide a personal reply over this as here we have no acces to client information.

We would like to clarify that we do not charge for minor "scuffs" to tyres. We would only make a charge for tyre damage if the scuff is serious enough to render the tyre dangerous and mean that we have to replace the tyre before the next client.

We are sorry that you feel unhappy with the service received but as mentioned we will be happy to look at your issue relating to the deposit amount if you email our customer care team.

“Worst car rental experience ever! ”

The worse car rental company I have ever come across. Not only they charge you an exorbitant amount for full insurance (which is 'underwritten' by them) but they also lie to you when you take it stating that you can bring the petrol tank empty. Our SCDW cover is of course optional and all of our clients have a choice whether to take this cover for peace of mind or to leave a deposit and assume any risk for damages that may occur.

Most of our car hires are full to full so the client simply takes the car full and returns full. We do offer through some broker a lower cost full to empty package which involves paying for a tank of fuel. If you paid for a full tank on collection then you don´t need to return full of course. But, if you didn´t pay for the fuel or you paif to change the tarif from full/empty to full/full as part of a package then you should take and return full.

If there was any confusion we apologise and if you want to email our customer care team we will be happy to look at your personal contract in more detail. When you collect the car you will be given a contact which clearly states the terms of your fuel policy.

I have hired cars around the world and I understand the different contracts. The fact that I trusted your representatives and didn't read the actual contract is my fault.

What I do expect is that if the employees of a company tell you something repeatedly, it actually is true. I also expect to be treated with respect when I complain and not be dismissed with a 'Read the contract!' by the manager whilst the people that served me look down and try to hide.

I still believe your full cover insurance is overpriced and in this case we had no choice but to sign for it because of your company policy.

we always book our car rental through Ryanair and are usually very satisfied. On this occasion we experienced much hard sell by the car hire company trying to sell their insurance etc etc. We were also charged for a change in drop-off time ( still within the 24 hour rental period but different to the time given at the time of booking)which we advised them of!! Thank you for taking the time to share your opinions. Our SCDW cover is optional and our customers do have a choice if they wish to take this or not but of course our staff to have to ensure that the client understands their options and responsibiltiies under the contract either way.

I would ask you to please email our customer care team because we would not usually charge for a single scratch of 3mm. There is a threshold which is above this. It is very hard to believe that even in error this charge would be made but if you are sure that the damage was only 3mm then please email us and we will look into this and check the damage log and photos etc.

Drivalia offered the best options of all the other discount rentals. I booked a small car, with full to full on the fuel to avoid any haggling, and air conditioning, this is a definite requirement. The worst company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with.. When booking they said they only needed a credit card with my name on it and Drivers License.. Turns out you need a £1250 deposit. Having rented a car with Drivalia before, we knew a stress free experience was to be had second time around. The cars are checked for marks etc prior to driving off, all being noted on the paperwork but have a look yourself to find any others, only larger than 1cm matters and have them noted.
