People per hour are the best freelancing site I have used. When I started, I signed up for 5 - PPH is the only one I use now. They muster great communication with the community, which is appreciated as it has a positive effect on the work I pull in. Recommended

Hi! Thank you very much for your very kind words! It's very uncommon for anyone with a good experience to take the time to actually make their opinion known, but when they do we want them to know that their feedback and appreciation means the world to us! So thank you again, and know that we will never stop trying to get better and better at what we do, simply because we want to keep you happy!

“Too many projects that don't pay... enough”

★★★☆☆

written by on 31/05/2011

The idea itself is great. Connecting people with individuals/organisations that are offering work. In fact I think it works very well for many people. My own experiences haven't been great unfortunately as I've only taken on 1 job over the last couple of years. Ive seem too many projects where the people offering the work want a lot of work for a ridiculous amount of money or peanuts as I like to call it. I've been invited to bid for some projects but it simply hasn't been worth my while. You also have to take into account that PPH charge a fee and when all the work is completed I doubt that in many cases it's better than the minimum wage. People offering work have the upper hand here and a bit too much in my opinion.

We are happy to inform you that we have made some tremendous changes on the platform over the past few years which have allowed us to make the platform a lot more appealing and fair for all users! We have made it easier for our sellers to work for more appropriate rates given their experience, and we have made it harder for "inappropriate" buyers to keep an account on PPH.

Also there are a bunch of nre features that allow sellers to boost their sales without having to "hunt" for jobs.

“The Walter Mitty World of People Per Hour”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 31/05/2011

OK, I admit, I had ONE good job out of People Per Hour. But that was cancelled out by the HUNDREDS of bids sent to all sorts of mysterious (so called) 'clients' who demand to see all manner of details about you - as well as demanding loads of free samples - while keeping their identities entirely secret. And then there are the fantasists. I bid for one job to write a business plan. I have no idea who the client was, because the site allows them to hid behind a cloak of anonimity. Though I lost the bid, I was contacted by 'a friend' of 'the client' who asked me to prepare a bid for work on US airbases in the Gulf. Do this job right they said, and plenty more will follow. No sooner had the work been completed than the 'client' vanished. They were overseas and the alarm bells should have rang when despite claiming to be the director of a large firm (and presenting utterly convincing credentials), they would only communicate via the text chat function on Skype. But that was as nothing compared to actually meeting Walter Mitty. The bid was for the preparation of educational materials for a new college. Easy enough for a teacher to do I thought. Within 24 hours of submitting the bid, I was telephoned by 'Dr X' (name changed). Expressing great interest in my work, he suggested lunch at a central London swanky hotel. I managed to beat him down to coffee (at his expense) and duly arrived at the hotel to find the 'Dr' jabbering into his phone and scribbling furiously on a large notepad. Ascertaining that he was setting up a new kind of 'college' I attempted to get further details. Where was the college? How would it attract students? What was it offering that hundreds of other private colleges were not? Answers were substituted for fantastical promises. Would I like to be 'Director of Education' in the new college? No? Well how about Principal? Hang on a minute, I've only been a teacher for a few years! Despite making it clear that following the meeting, my time was now chargeable, I was bombarded with calls asking me to do this work or that project - all on a 'sample' basis of course. Then there were 'the spies'. The folk next door to him were apparently bugging his flat and tapping into his computer - something else he wanted me to investigate for free. A quick check on his credentials found that his 'doctorate' was from a discredited degree mill, while his religious minister's qualification had been granted by a church in the US that ordains ministers by email. And as for his claims to have worked on the design of Air Force One, well! He became extremely aggressive when I requested an up front fee for work and so I made the excuse of a previous engagement to escape from him. Another fascinating aspect of PPH is the fact that clients expect you to work for peanuts. 'I need 100 thousand word articles on breast cancer by the end of this week' is a typical kind of advert that appears on the site. Also typical is the 'payment' for said articles, which usually works out to about a quarter of a penny a word. If you are a slum dog in Bangladesh or Shanghai, you could earn enough to buy yourself a bag of rice a day from bashing out these kind of articles. However, for serious freelances like myself, PPH has turned out to be a complete waste of time and effort and it is for that reason that I am pleased to say, I closed my account with them several months ago.

This describes PPH perfectly, clients who want it yesterday and want to pay peanuts for weeks worth of work. I have yet to see a real decent job on there. I have a feeling PPH may regret joining this review site.

And can tell you that we have put emphasis on weeding out any possible Walter Mitties! We are promoting fair and equal opportunities for both sellers, and users. “Brilliant site”

★★★★☆

written by on 31/05/2011

The PeoplePerHour website is brilliant - easy to use, easy to bid for work, easy to set up a profile and manage your portfolio. At present there is not a great deal of choice on jobs to bit for - however as the number of users increases I'm sure the amount of jobs available will increase. I would recommend PPH to all freelancers in design and other areas - it's very simple to place a bid, and the website does a great job of communicating direct to your inbox or mobile phone so that you don't have to be consistently logging in. Really great site. Highly recommended.

“Excellent Oragnization and Great Support of Freelancer...”

written by glengiuffre on 31/05/2011

I have now used a number of freelancing sites and PPH is far and away the best. Their customer service is responsive with truly helpful answers when questions arise and the overall organization of the site makes working with them a pleasure. I've no been on both sides of the equation as both a client and a freelancer and even a simple process like being able to fun my job postings with earning from my PPH work for other clients was made simple. I do get the feeling that clients on this site tend to favor UK based freelancers a bit. Other freelancing site don't seem to have the same location bias but now that I've developed a positive rating I'm finding it easier to secure good assignments.

“At last - a job site that takes freelancing seriously!”

★★★★☆

written by DerekT on 31/05/2011

It's a rare thing indeed to find a freelancing site like this that consistently offers a fair rate for writers. You can also feedback on whether the rate offered is realistic, whether you actually bid on that project or not. A minimum of 50% of your bid price is paid in by the client once a bid is accepted and you have the opportunity to attach a CV and provide references. The watchword of the site is transparency. You can choose to have standard membership for free or a paid for enhanced option. You can see how many bids have been placed, ask questions and clients can limit the project to bids from a single country or just preferred bidders. It all adds up to a professional experience where freelancers an clients can connect and do business without the hassle. And just so you know I'm not biased, I haven't had any successful bids on projects yet - but I'm working on it! Derek Thompson www.alongthewritelines.blogspot.com www.professional-writer.co.uk

“good website for freelancers and small IT companies ”

★★★★☆

written by on 31/05/2011

I found this website as very good and very easy to use , the only thing i dnt like is high project fees that also from developers or freelancers, pph should work think on it as we already do cheap work and save lots of money of our clients then why pph shd charge such a high 10% fees from us ( freelancers). Other websites like elance, odesk have changed this pattern over a period of time and that has helped freelancers alot . But in terms of other things this is very good market place .

written by loopbg on 06/05/2011

I'm glad I found PeoplePerHour.com a few months ago. I registered as a freelance graphic designer just to give it a try, created my profile and placed a few bids, when 2 hours later I already got 2 projects started.

Now I'm using the website both to find job both to find job for myself and to outsource work to other specialists which helps me to provide more services to my clients.

I'm really impressed from the PeoplePerHour.com team, which have created such a good website, with very safe system for managing projects and bids from both of the sides - as a client and as a provider. I like how the escrow system works and that you create or receive detailed invoices for each project, make reviews and improve your profile there. And you could easily see that they keep the connection with their users through a very nice blog, so they keep up to date and develop new useful functions.

I have already recommended the website to a few friends of mine!

written by JoePritchard on 06/05/2011

I've been a member of PPH for a while now. I'm a freelance web / software developer, and have to say that I was wary at first as the usual thing that happens on boards like this is that jobs are placed on the board with unrealistic expectations of price and delivery time from clients. Well, I have to say that whilst there are a few people with unrealistic expectations, the majority of people placing jobs seem to be aware of the sort of price they can expect to pay, and the whole process runs very smoothly and cleanly.

Provided the client has paid (and there's an escrow system in place) payments come through to you as a freelancer as and when promised. The PPH people also listen to concerns - things like putting a facility in to allow jobs with unrealistic budgets to be flagged is great.

Very happy with the service and the difference it's made to my recent income. Just hope that it stays slightly secret... ;-)

Well I've just recently joined PPH as a freelance voiceover talent.
I honestly wasn't expecting any quick results, but I ended up getting my first project through their website quicker than any of the other top 4 freelance sites that I work through.
The project went very well. The client was wonderful to work with - very quick with response time and payment!
It looks like some fruitful days ahead with People Per Hour... I'm happy to be on board!
