“Complete rubbish and cost me bank charges”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 26/03/2016

Opened the online saver without any initial problems. Tried to arrange transfer of £8000 then £9000 into the account. Nothing happened. I rang customer service a few days later to say there was no record of the transfers in either account. I was told the PO had no record of these and they would not have gone through because I was using an iPad. The guy said I needed to use a PC. I advised them it isn't 1990 and no one I know has a desktop. If the account won't work on iPad or smartphone I'd go elsewhere. I proceeded to move the money into another account. Around 10 days later the PO attempted to take both transfers from my account. As I had already moved the money this incurred bank charged for failed direct debits. I'm really not happy. Complained online but no response. Rang today to complain again but the person I spoke was unable to do anything except take my details. WORST BANK EVER! Please don't bother with these jokers.

“POOR SERVICE!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Paytond250 on 11/03/2016

I recently opened an account for the POST OFFICE ONLINE SAVINGS ACCOUNT!!It has been a complete nightmare. I registered on line & it came up as error please try again later..I did & ended up with 2 accounts? I was sent an ID number and a separate security number in the post. I used this and got in OK used it again a couple of days later and was locked out?? Rang & spoke to a woman 4/3 who said a new security number would be sent out in 4 - 5 working days. It is now 11/3 nothing has arrived. I emailed a complaint regards the service & was told the Instant Savers dept would be contacting me this was on 7/3..still waiting! I cancelled my Direct Debit Mandate so no more money could be taken out of my account at the present time. I got 2 letters immediately today informing me I had closed them...I KNOW!! They then stated I need to sort this out and then LOG IN to adjust my account or words to that effect...except I CANNOT LOG IN because I have NOT RECEIVED MY SECURITY NUMBER! I intend closing my account & having my monies back to save elsewhere. I will be contacting the head office and I have also e mailed the ombudsman to seek further advice regards this totally unprofessional organisation. I WOULD ADVISE TO AVOID AT ALL COSTS

“will never use again”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Wishig on 16/01/2016

Post Office Savings have always made a meal of returning funds from matured or closed accounts but they have now got even worse. My Loyalty (what a joke) Bond/Growth Bond matured on Friday. Weeks before was sent a letter requesting maturity instructions. These were sent requesting closure of account and funds to nominated account. No money received in bank account Friday or Saturday. Phoned customer services at PO. Given various excuses and told transfer would take up to 3 working days. That plus a weekend means I won't have MY money back until the middle of next week. No interest for those lost days and a forced delay in opening a new account else where is disgusting. T&C,s do not mention this delay. Do NOT open an account with this useless organisation. Other banks and savings institutions all use electronic transfers which take effect on the day they are requested to, in nearly all cases (the exception usually being a Sunday). Post Office are the worst financial institution I have ever dealt with. Their most recent correspondence even has the wrong contact phone number printed on it. DO NOT invest your money with the POST OFFICE if you want to get it back without numerous letters and angry phone calls.

States on the maturing form that providing your bank account details is not instructions to pay your money into your account on maturity... it says it on the page. You either read and dont understand english or you didn't read it the information provided

You are the one who can't read. I expect you work or have worked for Post Office Savings, if not maybe you should get a job with them. You have not got your facts correct. My comment says that my maturity instruction to them was to pay funds into my nominated Bank Account.
They have had details of my nominated account for many years, only when that nominated account changes is there a delay of 5 working days.
Electronic transfers should take place immediately, as is the case with all other competitors.

“Post Office froze my 'Savings Account'”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Useapassbookfacetoface on 22/12/2015

Because I used my Post Office savings account as a saving account the Post Office saw fit to freeze it, despite the fact that I had spoken to them to double check my balance regularly. To reactivate my account I was told I would receive a letter, nothing arrived. I called after ten days, was told they were waiting for info from me. The person I spoke to told me what was required. This turned out to be incorrect after sending them several pieces of personal information. They then sent me the letter which lists the correct details the Post Office require from you (which I should have received in the first place). I WAS REQUIRED TO TAKE MY PASSPORT AND OTHER PERSONAL ID TO THE POST OFFICE TO HAVE THE DOCUMENTS CHECKED AND SIGNED BY A POST OFFICE EMPLOYEE WHICH I HAD TO PAY FOR! I then resent my identity details, YOU HAVE TO PROVE YOUR IDENTITY TO REACTIVATE YOUR OWN ACCOUNT. This is a shorter version of events, the Post Office took every opportunity to delay me accessing my savings. Needless to say I closed my account immediately after access was granted. When closing your PO account they give you the choice of immediate transferral and lose a months interest, or give one months notice. I chose immediate transferral which took THREE WEEKS!

“Savings Account”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Kearns14 on 15/05/2015

If you have any cash at all in a Post Office Savings Account, withdraw it immediately and put it safely in a Bank - you have been warned! On Friday 8th May 2015 my account was suspended without any notification, contact or warning. The reason given was no transactions for 3 years, this is despite me logging in to my account EVERY MONTH to check the status. It is now Friday 15th May 2015 and my account has not yet been reactivated due to a both incompetence and misinformation on the part of the P.O. I have no idea if and when my account will be reactivated. It is clear from my experience that Post Office Savings Accounts are not fit for purpose and you really should not trust them at all with your money. Do so at your own risk!!

Hi I have suffered this experience also. Avoid Post Office savings accounts at all costs if you want to get your money back!! After my Mum being told that her account was suspended without any notification, contact or warning as there had been no activation on the account - HELLO IT IS A SAVINGS ACCOUNT PEOPLE LEAVE THEIR MONEY IN THERE FOR SAVING AND NOT TOUCHING. She therefore decided she would like all her money refunded. We are now at least 3 months down the line and still the Post Office cannot even re-activate her account due to an "Electronic error" and we have filled in countless forms etc... ALL TO GET HER OWN MONEY PAID BACK TO HER - IT IS RIDICULOUS AND I WOULD RECOMMEND NO-ONE TO USE POST OFFICE SAVINGS DUE TO THEIR TOTAL LACK OF COMPETENCE!

I am very sorry to hear of your similar trouble. I did eventually get my money out and put into my Lloyds Bank Account - but it wasn't down to me - my son sorted it!! My son is a journalist and I wrote a letter to the local paper where he works about this ridiculous situation. My son then got in touch with the Post Office's Press Office - and guess what - it was all sorted out that same afternoon!!
The Post Office is not fit for purpose when it comes to handling your money - you have been warned.

“30 days notice account means they DO NOT return your...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 350Whitehead on 16/03/2015

I have opened and then applied to close a reward saver account within a week. The reason? Incompetence, 12th century banking practices, EXCEPTIONALLY RUDE customer services personnel (as evidenced from other reviewers of this company. I could not believe that it took them less than one week to lose my business all because they feel that THEY are doing the customer a favour and not the other way around! I sent them a letter recorded delivery giving them the requisite 30 days notice for my money to be returned to me - They still have not given me it back to me and and I read on many sites that they tend to try and hold onto your money. I rang them last week (recorded the entire call on my mobile phone as proof in case they try and lie) and was told the money would be put back into my account by Monday. It has not been. Needless to say that it looks like I will be approaching the Ombudsman because a previous complaint letter about their online save account has essentially been ignored as well. They are an awful company.I have never had problems such as these with any other financial institution. Do not use the Post office for any service relation to finance and money. All they are good for is buying stamps. Nothing more!

“NOT EASY ACCESS”

★☆☆☆☆

written by BrileyBragg125 on 27/02/2015

I would avoid at all cost any of the so called easy access online saver accounts, once they have your money you have to jump through hoops to try and get it out and sometimes have had to wait for 2-3 weeks, excuses used like technical problems are very common.

“Getting your money back like getting blood from a stone”

★☆☆☆☆

written by rpggotme on 10/07/2013

Worst service ever encountered. Been trying to transfer funds out for over two weeks. First it took them 7 days to send security number to access account, they say 3-5 working days when you request a replacement, it will always be 7 days as weekends don't count; letter arrived on working day five. then accessed the account to transfer money, entered account details of receiving bank (same account we sent it from, details already held by Post Office) account frozen for 5 working days, for security checks; no evidence of any beeing done and they wont say what they have done. Still haven't got the money transferred. Call centre staff unhelpful. Numerous complaints made, falls on deaf ears. Don't invest your money with these people.

“Rubbish service !”

★☆☆☆☆

written by VelocityKendal on 24/04/2013

I needed to withdraw funds from my savings account for a house purchase. I stupidly didn't check my online login security code was working until monday morning (we were completing on Friday) at which point i found out it didn't work anymore. I phoned customer services who reset the code and said a new one would be sent 2nd class to me which would take between 3 and 5 working days. There was no other option to get it to me quicker, so in light of this they suggested i write to head office via special delivery and provided the letter was received ok the instructions within would be actioned and the funds would be in my account the next working day which would have been the wednesday. So i sent the letter off - it was signed for by someone at PO Savings head office first thing on Tuesday morning so i thought everything was ok but guess what ? The funds never turned up in my nominated acount. Customer services were distinctly disinterested and there was apparently no way to contact head office to find out what went wrong. *Very* shabby service all in all - we had to get another source of finance to make completion in the end. So my advice with this bunch of idiots is to avoid them like the plague (unless you like that sort of thing).....

I had a instant account savings, with the interest dropping badly after 12 month,i enquired in advance of maturity asking if i could re-invest in the one year bond,no you have to close the account then re-apply, what a lark get into the 21st century,i applied in writing, the only accepted way to close account on maturity,i have to say in fairness it was closed on the due date and funds received into my bank within 48hrs after closure date, but they lost out on re-investing

“Useless until they get to the 21st Century”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DaveWBrown on 07/12/2011

I had an Online Saver account with them where you get a basic level of interest with an increased percentage for the first year and then it drops by a good margin so you have to move it. After the year I looked on their website and found another higher interest bond and proceeded to try and switch the funds from the previous account to the new one. The answer was that I could NOT and I had to close the account and re-apply. And how do I close the account? I WRITE to them SNAIL-MAIL. They then transfer the funds to my bank account (each step taking days at a time) and then I can reapply for another account????? What a ridiculous way to manage ON-LINE savings. I left a web complaint telling them to get their act together and behave like other financial organisations - and moved my money elsewhere. In this electronic age they need to catch up - I (and others) will NOT want to mess around like this. So, if you are thinking of Post Office savings - find out how you move your money after the year first - and make your decision accordingly.

“Post Office loyalty to existing customers”

★★★☆☆

written by on 08/09/2011

I have a Post Office online saver account. The interest rate I am currently getting is 2.75%, which includes a 1.25% fixed bonus for the first year. This is typical of most of this type of account now, and enables the bank to make big profits out of the elderly, and anyone else who makes the mistake of believing that they can trust their bank, and forgets to transfer the account in time, and loses interest. The Post Office however are now plumbing new depths in sharp practice which presumably are legal. I had an E-mail from the Post Office informing me that my introductory bonus was about to expire, and to follow ther link to their website to select a new product. What I was offered was an Online Saver with an interest rate including the bonus of 2.75%. When I looked at their website to see what the rate was for new customers, I was surprised to learn that it was 3.01%. I phoned the Post Office, and I was told that I could not transfer my savings into an account giving this interest, but I would have to close my existing account, withdraw the money, and then open a new account as though I was a new customer. The banks don't get any better do they?

written by sharky33 on 05/04/2011

The Post Office (actually its the Bank of Ireland) is a bad example of how to provide online banking, made worse by the terse telephone support.

I have had problems with my account being locked several times although I can go months without any issue then suddenly the account is locked. The only explanation (0117 943 1006 use this number rather than the 0845) is that I have entered the incorrect PIN 3 times. I know user error is more likely but it seems more like their system locks my account every few months.

Why do I have to give 1 star ????
If that was it I could live with it BUT when I phone to reset my account PIN they take me through security but even then cant tell me anything (balance etc) without my PIN which is ridiculous as I've just called to reset it! OK so how can I reset my PIN ? Through the post of course .... should have known.

A good example of how to handle security and resetting is First Direct (although not a place for good savings interest at the moment).

“I opened an Online Saver account, and received...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 23/02/2011

I opened an Online Saver account, and received correspondence telling me that eaccount and associated Direct Debit had been set up, but the requested transfer of funds (the only way to feedc the account is by direct debit from a bank account) was not actioned, leaving me with a large sum in my current account where it would earn no interest.
When I rang to query this, the man at Customer Services told me (without asking for my name or any account details) that it takes 10 days to set up a direct debit (rubbish - it was already showing in my current account on day 2) and simply laughed when I asked him what he was going to do about it.
I asked to speak to a supervisor and his response was that it would not change anything.
I explained that I wanted to speak to a supervisor to complain about his attitude - he then told me that his supervisor was not there, but did grudgingly take my name and phone number.
As by then I could have predicted, nobody has phoned me - so I have cancelled the direct debit opened an account with a different bank which can be fed using online banking, so I will earn intetest immediately.
What a bunch of cowboys!

I found this review not helpful because...I believe I was actually the advisor in question who this reviewer was speaking to. She phoned with an attitude demanding to know what I was going to do about the standard 10 day direct debit mandate setting up period which I, nor anyone else, can change (it is up to 10 days actually everyone else seems to understands this, you didn't quite grasp the fact). Also I just want to confirm I don't need to know your details or personal information to tell you this. You also must be having a laugh if you think I was going to put you onto my supervisor so that you could complain about me, yeah right. It is customers like you who make things hard for yourself phoning us with an attitude, try being a little nicer to people it may actually work because you fail to explain to the readers of this review how rude you actually were to me, I am more than helpful to reasonable callers but you are the sort of customer us advisors' hate dealing with. One last thing, I didn't actually take your number down at all and had no intention of getting a supervisor to call you back, that's one less ignorant customer to deal with now your gone!
