Best avoid this company as I think they are a borderline sham. Poor customer service, administration and high prices. I booked them before reading the reviews. Although I got a partial refund they took off a sizeable amount in cancellation fee, which I hadn’t been advised of.

Do not use - cancellation terms imposed are unfair and limits your legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act and the Consumer Contracts Regulations which allow a 14 day cooling off period, particularly for purchases made over the phone or online for purchase hire. However, Nationwidehire terms state a lengthy notice period for cancellation overriding these rights, and are not practicable in most instances particularly where you hire and receive the car on the same day. I have consulted with Trading Standards who are aware, and will be refuting any further imposed charges (see previous customer reviews) without: a) supporting evidence of their claims, and b) specifically referencing their terms. My partner has a brain injury, and is protected under the disability act. I tried to call to enquire about these terms unfortunately the conversation became heated after the attitude I received when I reiterated the same above (also as previous customer reviews). Avoid at all costs.

“Short notice requirement”

We sold our static caravan and had to move out at short notice these guys went above and beyond to help us out, both drop off and pick up drivers were brilliant on a cold wet day top marks guys will use you again!

“I would put zero stars if I could. Absolutely...”

I would put zero stars if I could. Absolutely disgusted with how I have been treated by this company. Hired a van for a weekend, it was parked outside my house and a pedestrian smashed the mirror glass. This can be replaced for £ 30, (we have done this same repair on our motorhome) they charged me over £600 with FAKE photos showing the whole unit smashed. BE AWARE if hiring from this company, they are making money from false damage claims.

Worst experience ever!! Terrible, rude and hostile customer service!!! Please don’t consider hiring a car from nationwide hire UK! This is the worst car hire service i’ve ever had to deal with - i wish i could give zero stars! hired and paid for a van and they sent an unsafe giant bus that i was legally unable to drive because of the seat capacity, or use a car seat in, or even fit luggage in for a group of 12. raised the issues at drop-off and rather that attempting to find a resolution, i was met with outright hostility and a very quick “no refunds”. and after all they refused to even say when they would come pick their unsightly bus which couldn’t even fit in a public parking space. horrible team, terrible experience! Following up the matter legally! avoid at all costs!

“Avoid just a broker - poor service - very slow collection”

I hired a van, and whilst it was delivered on time, the van is still to be collected 5 days later. Read the contract carefully before using nationwide hire. They are a broker and hide behind this with their contract terms, and take no responsibility to assist or help to resolve.

“Daylight robbery £1438 for cancellation ”

I have booked for van hire on Monday evening over the phone, van spouse to be delivered on Wednesday but my circumstances changed and I had to cancel it on Tuesday morning. I have cancel booking before they even confirm the booking. I have receive cancellation confirmation but there is a catch, there is no refund. When I made booking, agent didn’t mention if I cancel I will not get any refund to be honest didn’t give any information. I contacted customer service and they told me I should have read terms and conditions. Not once I should read terms and conditions from agent at the time of sale, I have received acknowledgment email and there is no information regarding terms and conditions nor there is a link. Everytime I try to contact customer service, there is no one wants to listen to me and almost feels like that was normal for them. £1438 cancel before booking started and that is how much they charge me for cancellation. My advice stay away from this company.

“DO NOT USE”

I hired a van from nationwide hire and arranged delivery for 08.30 Saturday 22nd. I received a phone call at 9.39pm the night before saying he was on his way now and dropping the van off, regardless of wether I was unavailable or not. Because there is issues with parking and because I wanted to receive the keys I agreed to stay up until the ETA of 11.30. By 00.15 there was still no van so I messaged the person who was delivering the van and he informed me ha had already delivered the van and posted the keys. The keys WERE NOT POSTED THROUGH MY DOOR. I moved about 4 van loads of my belongings into my living room in preparation to load the van. I have 2 children 1 and 3 years old so this has not been easy and made it very difficult but as this was just supposed to be overnight we just put up with it. I have also arranged to meet someone in Manchester that day with a storage facility to unload my belongings. I put a days annual leave in to plan for this time sensitive move - now I had to cancel my clinic next Saturday of 40 patients and I will be losing a great deal of money - I was absolutely devastated by the way I was treated - The person I was speaking with did not offer any solution or compensation and was very unhelpful. They didn’t offer a replacement and said I might get a refund in 5 days but couldn’t tell me when. I asked to speak with a manager but they said no - I just have to put something in writing and that was that - they didn’t care and just said they were a broker. I strongly advise you not to use nationwide hire, they just want to take your money and do not deliver on their promise. If something goes wrong they do not care how it may impact you.

“No van, no apology”

I needed a van for a Sunday but, because of their weekend limitations, I'd had to book it from the Saturday until the Monday. All sorted, confirmed, paperwork submitted but the van never showed up. When I phoned customer services, they said there was nothing they could do but they would forward my concern to be reviewed on the Monday. On the Monday I received my money back. No explanation, no apology and certainly no additional compensation for my out of pocket expenses due to having to arranged an alternate way of moving several tons of material. Pity, they've been good in the past but this was terribly customer services and has lost our business.

“Use another rental company!”

Use another rental company!! They do not send over delivery condition reports OR collection condition reports unless specifically asked for AFTER the event. They will not issue refunds for days not used if an early collection is requested. If the hire period is extended they automatically take additional charges from the original payment method without permission. We have been charged £1200 for a minor scratch to the body of the van and a minor dent to the exhaust pipe!!! All in all a shoddy outfit that I will not be using again.

“My Credit card was misused”

I booked car on 12th July. A gentleman took my card details on phone. and within next 4 hours, I noticed unauthorised transactions taking place on my credit card. I never shared my card details with any company over phone, but with this company only. Fraud teams are now investigating the matter.

“AVOID AT ALL COSTS”

Please don’t make the same mistake as my partner did and book via this company!!! He rented a vehicle 2 weeks ago and he had problems from the get go. First he was informed on the day of delivery that the vehicle that he was expecting was no longer available and they were sending a smaller vehicle but was still charged the same amount. Secondly when the vehicle was delivered the guy that delivered it informed my partner that the tyre pressure warning light keeps coming up on the dashboard but to ignore it as there must be a fault as he has checked the tyres and they are fine. This is an absolute disgrace in itself. Why on earth would you give somebody a vehicle that has something potentially wrong with it?? The man was clearly not truthful from the start as when he was driving to the first services he noticed the tyre going down and had to pump it up. As he was about to drive home from where he was staying he realised the tyre was completely flat and had to walk to find somewhere that sold a pump which he obviously had to pay for out of his own pocket. The vehicle was collected as arranged. However he has now been charged £206 for tyre damages!!!! Damages that were there in when the van was given to him!! They have also tried to take 2 other random payments from his bank account! Very very unhelpful on the phone too!! We shall be taking them to court if this isn’t resolved!! PLEASE PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS

“Cancelled at last minute”

Booked a van hire, called a couple of days before to check all paperwork etc ok and they said it was. 20 minutes before the van was due to be delivered they called to say I was on an 'insurance risk database' and they cancelled the hire. I nearly had to cancel a camping trip for 50 people as a result. They now won't tell me what database I am on so I cannot get this issue corrected

Booked a minibus in January for trip to Cardiff Six Nations Rugby in February, confirmed and £676 taken from account, i also added and paid for two additional drivers sent all licences. With 10 days to go i received an email stating they would have to source the vehicle from a branch of suppliers outside the usual delivery radius at an extra cost of £100. At this late stage i didn't have much option but to pay or let 14 others down. We set off on the Friday morning, not long until we were on motorway all gritted for winter driving, when windscreen got dirty and washers didn't work. First thought was it hadn't been filled with water as we had to stop to clean window, but as it turned out it was the motor that was inoperative. A long 370 mile, trying to keep a window clean, and as it is a legal requirement for this to be working the other two guys who are professional drivers didn't want to risk points on their licences. Sent an email to customer services on Feb 15th, i also telephoned on two occasion to be abruptly told replies take up to 30 days. I had to email them a reminder on March 24th only to be more or less told - tough there is nothing we can do about it. I contacted BVRLA, but it is no surprise they are not members.

Hired a van on the 17/11/21 to be dropped off. vn came with no little fuel in tank so had to go fill it up, did x4 40 mile journeys in it moving house, the van was battered and tyres were just on the legal limit, but its a rental people abuse them all the time and they don't live happy lives. Told them I was ready to send the van back 12 hours before the end of the rental period but it still took them 48 hours to collect this is 24 hours after the collection time was agreed. I had re-filled the tank and made sure the adblue was topped off before the collection, van sat behind my jag until collection. Jan 22 - someone phone, and asked if I would mind leaving a truspilot review, I said I would if I found the time, however didn't bother as its a van hire company, and I had ordered the van at short notice, and they were in the google search. fast forward to 10th Feb, £86.88 has just been taken out of my account for excess fuel charges, reading the paperwork and from what they said on delivery, all disputes would have been dealt with in the 30 day window of the hire ending and that I would need to keep the paperwork for any dispute to be lodged, So why exactly 3 months later to the date has a fuel surcharge been lodged, invoice sent for it after the 30 days especially when the van went back with a full tank of both diesel and adBlue? Tried to call them the guy on the other end of the phone was rude and stand offish, telling me I needed to email them back with the dispute..call was recorded (you can check out the warning on my website under contact information) and I have photos of the van Geotagged and time stamped of the condition of the van and fuel levels before and after the rental period. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, THEY WILL WAIT THREE MONTHS AND THEN ISSUE A FICTITIOUS INVOICE FOR FUEL! ESPECIALLY IF YOU DONT WRITE A REVIEW. I am guessing this is not the review you were looking for when you called and email on the 30th of Jan 2022 was it? ;)

“A disgrace to hire companies”

I had to pay £150 for a van that arrived the wrong day! Their website changed my booking before check out as apparently you can't hire a van for one day on a Saturday so it changed it to the next available date which was the day after. The company refused to refund me any money and as I couldn't use the van as I was at work all day it was cancelled. Customer services was nothing more than a joke. No sympathy and not even an offer of a cancellation fee, which I wouldn't have accepted anyway. I would avoid these c0n artists at all costs. An expensive lesson on my part

“Dreadful, disgusting ”

Dreadful, I paid £270 for a van for 2 days and got sent a rusty old 15 year old transit that was absolutely disgusting inside, like an old builders van!! I refused delivery as there was not a chance I was putting anything new in the back of that van and also I had a lot of miles to cover in those 2 days and I was doubtful of the reliability! Nationwide refused to acknowledge that the van was unacceptable, and refused to give any refund !! Even sent me a pic of the inside of van clearly filthy and disgusting !! They then refused to escalate my complaint . Avoid this company!

“DON'T HIRE FROM THEM.”

DON'T USE THIS COMPANY! I hired a mini bus which was delivered late and in a filthy condition inside and out. I paid £35 to have it cleaned before I could use it. The bus had a faulty handbrake, 2 seats in the rear were not fixed at all, the heater fan speed didn't work properly, it looked and smelled like a building site crew bus. They do not reply to any communication after you have paid. AVOID THIS COMPANY
