I have used Green Motion about 6 times & have had a good experience on each occasion. The pickup & drop off have been handled quickly & efficiently. The staff have been helpful & friendly. The rental prices are competitive & represent good value. There can be a wait for the shuttle bus if you arrive just after a collection, but for an off-airport firm that has to be accepted. The office is quite basic but I don't mind that. I am happy to support a firm that uses greener vehicles.

We arrive at Gatwick after a short flight, walked to the shuttle pick up where we saw a piece of paper stuck to the billboard stating that it was the stop for Green Motion Car hire. The shuttle arrived quickly and our driver was delightful. Upon arriving we went to the mobile office and waited apx 60 minutes before we were seen. The office is like a modern Fawlty Towers.. I honestly felt like videoing it it was so bad!!! The staff clearly have little or no training - shouting to each other across the office, asking who know which car is where etc... openly swearing (the blonde one) when the computer says no which is frequently seems to do, discussing their evening plans etc... if you do manage to get to a desk the chances of them finding the car you had booked are slim.. if they do there is even less chance of them finding the keys! Once we got our car (a free upgrade apparently.. funny, it was clearly all they had) it was absolutely fine. We left masses of time for the drop off which went very smoothly, so we had extra time for Gatwick shopping. I honestly think this is a case of you get what you pay for - it is cheap for a reason, I doubt the staff get the training or pay that they deserve. If you have masses of time and feel like a laugh then go for it - if you are in a hurry then don't! Personally I won't be coming back.

Arrived at green motion with my mother and three kids ...we were all tired and I was in a very bad mood and not looking forward to all the paper work etc involved in picking up a rental car.Bill the guy who dealt with us was patient ,funny and very professional,nothing was too much trouble for Bill and he went out of his way to help us .Which was a feat in itself considering how moany and moody I was !!! I arrived in a foul mood and left laughing !! We are returning in three weeks and can honestly say we will be returningcustomers.Well done green motion on hiring staff like Bill who made life so much easier for us .If all your staff are like Bill then happy days.

The slowest and most unprofessional pick-up and drop-off I've ever experienced. It took over an hour to collect the car, despite being first in the queue when I arrived. They spend far too long trying to sell you upgrades (to the car, the allowances, the insurance) and keep getting distracted by childish banter between the employees. I find it funny that some of the reviews on this site say how good the check in process was. Written by friends perhaps? The other issue I have is being charged 95 quid for a tiny scratch on the edge of the door. I definitely didn't do it as there was a matching one on the rear door that luckily I caught in a photo when collecting the car. Funny how the guy walked straight up to the car and started running his fingers along the door edges as if he knew it was there. On the other hand the car was nice and clean and the shuttle bus driver was great.

We arrived close to closing time to collect our car from Green Motion Gatwick. Two such friendly ladies manning the desk and a polite and friendly driver to pick us up from the airport. On returning the car we were efficiently checked in by a young man who had only been working for Green Motion for a few weeks. He was friendly, thorough and tried hard to offer sound advice for future car hires. Very pleased with our experience.

To Owner of Green motion of Gatwick, I came last week and I just want to thank you for your tremendous excellent customer service especially from one your staff named Abdell, he was very polite and I was intrigued. On another note it's about service and recognition. I don't think it's about cars or agreements it's about how you conduct yourself. The original rental staff on my contract agreement and he was also a top man who actually understood my needs. Hats of to you guys and I hope these guys seriously get recognised. I don't usually go out of my way to do this honestly but it's that level of top service which seriously needs to be recognised and I really do hope these guys are here everytime I book through my regular agents cartrawler.com. dreadful experience renting from green motion. was charged 400 quid for a tiny tiny tiny dent that I'm 100% sure wasn't my fault. Would never have seen it when i checked car in beginning as it really was that small!!. Had to triple look to see it when i checked out. Bet they charge every person renting that car for the same dent. thats how their prices are low. long wait for bus at terminal. staff useless and incompetent. (bus driver was really great though)

Would like to make the public aware of the sham which this car rental company is carrying out, after witnessing a charge of over 190 pounds made for a tiny barely visible hairs width horizontal scratch! to a customer returning a car which was never inspected. After leaving the premises in total disgust and disbelieve I decided to Google this company and the number of similar complaints is endless!!. So BE AWARE!!!!

Felt stupid for not reading reviews before I used them. A 1cm scratch has a repair bill of £194. They don't repair the scratches. They give you a car with 10 scratches , then when you come back they find scratch number 11 to charge you . This happened to me a week ago. Still beating myself for never checkingreviws . Unknowingly hired them through 3rd party website

Hired a car with them and was given an upgrade to a new car at the desk when I went to collect the vehicle. Upon returning the car a tiny scuff mark was noted as new, which it probably was. The scuff was TINY, hadn't broken the paint, I actually initially thought it was splashed mud it was that insignificant. I was charged £230 for repairs! I requested proof the work would be done and asked for an invoice from the dealership for the repairs. I was not disputing the cost or damage I simply wanted to be reassured my money was going to what they said it was. The repairs are only carried out at "the end of the cars life with us" I was told. By which time I'm sure there will be many more scuffs and the car will have depreciatied and the repairs will not cost nearly as much as they have charged me. Totally unreasonable people, don't see common sense and are absolute sham artists. Be VERY careful if you rent from them. I have rented from numerous other companies and never had any problems like this. Avoid at all costs.

Don't go by just the negative reviews, I recently used green motion Gatwick and the service was awesome. To start with the shuttle service was good dint have to wait for long,the customer service is good and nice new car. I only gave 4* instead 5 because I meant to get full to full fuel but lady gave the car which was half full and the pain was to give back the same amount, mine ended up more than half but I wouldn't mind green motion for their price and other services. Totally ripped off!!! They tried to charge over £500 for a tiny scratch on the wheel hub which we had not caused. Luckily we used our credit card and the transaction was stopped and the money returned to us after we explained that we had been ripped off. Then they tried to take the money again 6 weeks later!!! Luckily Mastercard noticed what they were up to this time and our money was returned again. I CAN ONLY WARN YOU DO NOT USE THEM. The 5 star ratings are obviously false

Worst car hire company I have ever used.They operate a sham where they charge for miniscule pre-existing damage that no other company would note. We were charged GBP441 for damage that we did not cause after collecting the car in the dark and being unable to inspect it. Be VERY careful if dealing with this company. Take photographs of every angle of the car. Better still: do not use them. Remember, if it looks too cheap there's probably something wrong.

Lesson for all: AVOID Green Motion car hire at all costs. The worst customer service in 20 years with car hire companies. They unethically force-sold insurance which was not required. When I complained about their unethical and disgraceful conduct they left a woman and 90 year old grandmother without transportation. AVOID!!! Go with a known and trusted brand. Research them online and you will discover hundreds of similar complaints, including national newspaper investigations.

DO NOT use this company. We were charged £220 for two small dents, each less than 0.4cm. Trustpilot lists Green Motion as its worst car hire company, ranking it 77 out of 77. They have a, 'damage matrix' which sets the price for repairs, so it is clearly a common occurrence charging people for ANY slight scratches/dents on returning the car. I have been driving for over 45 years – hiring many, many vehicles over these years. This is the first time that anyone has called into question the condition of the vehicle upon its return. My wife and I are adamant that the car had these dents in before we collected the vehicle. Reason: We drove straight to our accommodation – the car went into a single garage – the car was driven back. I can only assume that the dents were caused by either: a) On Green Motion car park – lots of people getting in/out of cars... b) The person who, ‘received’ the car, previous to us did not report the dents. The sales person’s attitude, demonstrated extremely rude conduct, arrogance resulting in a totally unacceptable experience. This is a very dodgy car rental company. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! APPALLING ATTITUDE

Terrible experience. Avoid at all costs. Their headline rental costs seem too good to be true, and of course they are. 1. Shuttle van absolutely filthy inside and only runs twice and hour to a very remote business park away from the airport. 2. Picked up the car and was offered excess cover at around £26 per day. This was more for one day than the entire rental and I have had my own insurance in the past with a bigger excess and am particularly careful, so I declined. 3. I got a very new car with 1000 miles. The representative stated that as it was so new there was no damage at all. The paperwork also reflected this. However I never trust this so very carefully went around the car and pointed out a number of scratches and scrapes. This was particularly difficult though since the car had just been washed but had not been dried. I pointed out one reasonable sized scratch since I was amazed this had not been noted. My mistake was that I did not thoroughly review that all the damage I noted. 4. Upon return, it took 30 minutes to get served, by which point I was concerned about missing my flight. When finally served the representative asked me to wait in the office whilst he went to check the car. I looked out of the window to watch what he was doing, and when I saw him in his hands and knees checking every inch of the car I went outside to see what he was doing. I have never seen a car hire company review a car in such detail. He pointed out the scratch mentioned above which I had picked up when I took the car. I explained that I had pointed that scratch out and checked the paper work I had receive. I noticed that the copy I had received did not have any damage noted, and the copy the representative had did not mark the damage. A charge of £400 based on the Green Motion damage charge matrix. Not only had I pointed out the damage on pick up (I am sure many others would not have picked this up), I was charged £400 for a scratch which I estimate would cost a fraction of that to repair. I had no option to pay up since I was going to miss my flight and they have your credit card details already. Complaint will be sent, but avoid these untrustworthy people at all cost. You have been warned!

Hired a car from Green Motion attracted by low price.Car was presented to me late, and dripping water because it had just been washed, making it difficult to see scratches. Car had many scratches including 1 additional one caused by the car washer. When I returned the car they noticed a tiny scratch on the wing mirror that I didn't do. It's odd because he found it in a few seconds as if he knew it was already there. Well, for such a tiny scratch I was surprised they would charge me, but 110.40 pounds!? Absolutely scandalous! The cost could have been no more than 10 quid. The staff just looked at me as if they had been trained in this situation before, showing no emotion or sympathy.Needless to say, I won't be using this company and their deceptive practices ever again.

Hire the car for 2 days, drove about 60 miles in total, mostly on the motorway. I was extremely careful where I parked the car making sure I had plenty of room from other cars. I was 100% sure the car was perfect when I returned the car, only to be told there was a scratch the size of pea under the front passenger door, charged £110 for the damage. Felt completely ripped off. Important to check the car thoroughly against the diagram on the rental agreement before you sign document. This car rental company is cheap but expensive.

WARNING - STAY CLEAR OF GREEN MOTION !!!!!! I rented a car from Green Motion Edinburgh for a day and we drove from Edinburgh to Glasgow and back. The manager found a 2 mm mark on the car and charged me £324. She also tried to charge an additional £40 administration fee but finally agreed to waive that. When I disputed the mark, the lady explained that she had my credit card details and there was nothing I could do. I have since obtained a damage matrix which states that Green Motion will charge a customer £324 plus £40 administration fee for a mark over 1 mm. (You read that correctly!) I am currently disputing the charge as I did not cause any damage to the car. However, the company has so far been extremely unhelpful. They have also been unable to provide photographic evidence of any damage to the car. The lady at Green Motion Edinburgh was also incredibly rude. I have hired many cars from different companies over the years and never experienced anything like this before. I am absolutely disgusted at the way I have been treated by the company so far and the way in which they make their money. I have hired many cars from Arnold Clark in Edinburgh and highly recommend them.

For a year ago I rented a car from your company to a very reasonable price. Unfortunately you asked me to pay for a scratch under the car. Price 700 English Pounds. I will never forget your company and I know from many other friends on Tripadvisor, you have made the same trick and robbery. When I rented the car from you, I was wondering why you asked me which job/profession I had. I have never met this question at any other car rental company. Why did you ask your customers for this? Will you just be sure the customer have enough money to pay you?

Same thing happened to me! Two tiny scratches on the door edges - luckily I had a photo of one of them when I collected the vehicle so they only charged me for one of them. Found it suspicious how they walked up to the car and straight away ran their fingers down the door edges, as if they knew the scratches were there... they didn't do that on pick-up.
