“Slight of hand ”

WARNING - SLIGHT OF HAND I’ll run through my scenario, I hired a car from Maggiore in Marco Polo airport. When I took out the car I was informed by the customer service person, that if I notice any more damage to the car, just to point it out when I return it. Wow, how chill I thought. On the first night I noticed the mechanical lock on the drivers side was missing (as in you could insert any key or a stick into it) no bother I’ll let them know when I’m back as I was told. Anyway - fast forward to the return. Took the car to the return bay, full of fuel, dropped the keys at the desk and the chap came out to have a look at it. Straight away he made B line to the lock, stating ‘new damage’ (tbh English wasn’t his first language but it’s better than my Italian for sure). So after several minutes of arguing with him, stating what I had been told by customer service when I took it out he went to the front desk and argued with a different customer service agent. This agent then signed my bit of paper saying I wouldn’t be charged for the damage. I then took this to the chap at the return bay, who was visibly upset, threw his phone and flapped his arms. Who then took me back to the customer service desk and argued some more. The customer service agent, came out again and explained I WOULD NOT BE CHARGED for the lock excellent I thought. He then produced the paperwork, folded in the 4 and highlighted the bit that said costs were £0.00 and I stupidly signed. A few days later I check my account - I have been charged £250. I dug out the paperwork, and he had simply folded the bit with the charges to the rear and shown me some other section like extra costs to the agreement. so in simple terms, they know there’s damage on the vehicles from pervious rentals and they don’t repair it or mark it up on the paperwork. They deliberately conceal information and mislead you about their policies. All so they can charge any renters extra. So please if using them, take a walk around VIDEO of the whole car. UNFOLD all paperwork and be prepared to argue. There’s a reason the all have bristling or Rolex watches!!

“Just avoid them!”

It was extremely unpleasant experience. We took a car from them twice during the vacation. During the second time, the car was returned at night to the airport. Before we made a video of the car and checked all. To our great surprise, they sent us a letter that they found a new damage. They charge 400 euro per scratch - it is just unbelievable. We were extremely lucky that we made a full protection with other company and now have made a claim to return our money. But if you do not make full protection, just try to avoid them!

“You have to pay protection”

If you don't buy full protection insurance from Maggiore(25 euro per day), you probably will pay a lot of money. After all the cheap rent can be very expensive. I rented car from Magiore 2 times during the last vacation, and they found some scratches each time. Repair cost more than 400 euro each time. Be careful!

“They give you the car with dust and when you give it...”

They give you the car with dust and when you give it back they find in 1 min 2 very very fine scrathches on the car that cost 300€ euro( wthich is the guarantee they charge you when you take the car that appear nowhere when you book the car and pay per day)- that scarthches where there for sure

“Avoid this very bad company”

I rented a car from Maggiore in Naples airport and returned it in the same state as I took it. I was told that a scratch on the wheel was new which was not possible and not true. I disagreed and left. They charged my card €273 for a small scratch that was in the car already. I tried to call them and email them to complain but they do not pick up the phone and do not respond to emails. The money was taken by AVIS their parent company. I complained to AVIS and after months of waiting, they said, I need to resolve my problem with Maggiore at Naples Airport, who do not respond.

“Disgusting company!”

A absolutely immoral disgusting company to use. I was double charged, once when I hired the car then at the end almost the same amount again. 9 days, over £1000. If I knew that was what I was signing for I would not have signed. This car hire has been more than double of any I have paid on any holiday. The car in fact was not the one I ordered, it was too small for our needs. It was chaos when getting the car and took over 2 hours to arrange this 'wrong car'. The person also wanted to charge us for existing damage on the car but luckily we had photos to prove we did not damage it. Utterly appalling company to use.

“Don't use this company!”

Very bad experience I had and I wished I'm done research before using this company. Saw on a website 92% of their customers rated them bad and advice people to avoid this company. Too late for me I guess but I hope others read about them and avoid bad experience I have to endure like many others. Bad customer service at airport counter. No reply on written complaint. Absolutely nothing.

“We rented a car and it was problematic and stopped in...”

We rented a car and it was problematic and stopped in the highway. After a lot of problems we changed the car and gave us a very dirty car. We returned the car as we got it with no damages. A few days later they charged us almost 600euro for damages that did not exist.

“Avoid this Company”

We rented a car from the Maggiore company with online booking through Discoverycar with a full risk insurance policy for our stay in Sicily. Pick-up and drop off: Catania airport. The car (Renault Clio) that they offered us was completely scratched, dirty (even the interior) and the petrol level was not completely full at the time of collection. We took many pictures. The confirmation document they provided us indicate 29,65 euros more than the contract signed online: they justified this issue as an error of the system, and that confirmed us that unfortunately they were not able to help. They suggested us to refer to Maggiore customer service that will be in charge for the refund. We tried to call them several time but unfortunately they are not rechable. During the drop off, the employee did not want to check the car and did not want to issue us any signed documents for the closure of the contract, saying that everything was ok and that they would send an email. They actually sent an email charging us 230 euros for a scratch that was already present at the time of collection. We tried to contact them to complain via email and telephone but none answered us. Since se were still in Sicily, we decided to visit them and complain. They welcomed us with shouts and they were very rude and unpolite, they told us that it was a mistake, they tried to cancel the full amount but still 20 euros to be paid by us for the bank transaction fees, so they guarantee us a voucher of the same amount. The voucher was never sent to us. On the day of our departure from Catania to come back to Paris, we decided to visit again Maggiore agency for the last time and check why the voucher was not sent. They welcomed us with shouts, confirming that they sent us the voucher. After insisting for at least 15 minutes, they checked nd "realized” that they have sent the voucher to the wrong email address. Bad service, bad reception! Don't waste your money and your time! Especially if you live abroad and do not have the opportunity to visit them to claim. Avoid this company

“Avoid”

Should have read the reviews before renting. During check in we got a damage report. Scratch on the back bumper of the car. When we returned the car they found an extra scratch! € 160- ! They could not supply us with a picture of the damage from before our rental. Seems they don't make pictures of the damages made !?!? Looked like the cheapest rental, turned out to be the most expensive. I can't stand the fact that I got hustled this way. I was really surprised that this is part of Avis.. I will never again book with this company or any other Avis company. They took €160, but will lose much more as I do tend to rent quite a lot and am very vocal when upset.

“FRAUD!!!”

The worst auto rental company in Italy, be careful! The will charge You for services You didn't have, impossible to contact them, they don't answer emails or phone calls. Be careful with Your CC bill, they will try to charge Your account for fake speeding or parking ticket!

“An utter disgrace to deal with”

Flight 1hr20 mins late, arrived at Maggiore desk in Malpensa to be told because over 1 hr late they had no car as it had been re sold, even though we`d paid a deposit. ( Utter rubbish, the fun begins) tell us to go away and speak to the company we booked through ( Joke) complained and hey presto a bigger, more expensive car was available ( joke but got by short and curlies so paid the extra £140) then proceeded to add all sorts of extras to our bill etc so paid over £570 from original cost of £290ish. Given a car with damage all over it ( had to video it so they didnt shaft me when we returned) an dwent on our hols. Engine management light intermittent throughout the hol so clearly not serviced particularly well. Returned after 2 weeks with a full tank of fuel (or as close as i could get as fuel ststions not close to airport ( 20 miles) . Returned vehicle told me theys charge for 1/4 tank, told them to dream on and he said he`d waive that then. Got final bill and 1/4 tank fuel added to credit card. DO NOT TOUCH THEM! You have been warned

“Cancelled my rental - Wasted half a day”

Tried to collect the car which I had booked online over 4 months prior to travelling, really rude staff at the desk told us there was no car available, and tried to downsize us into a smaller class vehicle. We had to travel out to the Airport office to collect the right size car, wasted 4 hours on this process, and then they tried to make us pay additional for the size of car we had booked in the first place. Would not refund the taxi fare to take me and my family between their offices.

“AVOID”

After paying in full for the hire of a car from Maggiore at Brindisi airport in Italy and returning to the UK, I received a notification some months later from my credit card company that Maggiore had subsequently taken quite a substantial amount of money from my account without my authorisation. After several telephone calls trying to blindly navigate my way through Italian speaking recorded messages, I managed to talk with an employee who quite unapologetically advised that this had been due to "a system error", and that the full amount would be refunded to my card. I later found that SOME of the money had been refunded, and as a result of not being able to get in touch with anyone else who could help, and no response at all to any of the many emails I sent them, I therefore was left with no other option than to cancel my credit card to prevent any further funds being taken, and to report Maggiore to the fraud department of my credit card company. I would urge any potential customers to avoid Maggiore at all costs. I suspect they try this with many of their customers in the hope they either don't notice the funds being taken, or pay it thinking they may be liable for damage they may not have previously noticed. It really is disgusting to know that some companies think they can get away with such deceitful behaviour.

“DO NOT GO THERE”

Hired through third party. Paid extra for full insurance cover,when collecting car told that cover was not sufficient and would cost an extra 25 euro per day,after a long day travelling with three children there is no alternative but to bend over and take one for the team. WILL NOT USE AGAIN. You Have Been Warned.

“Maggiore WORST Car Hire Ever”

Car booked well in advance, it wasn’t even in the depot, so had to wait on it being driven from the airport to the city and then had to be cleaned. Fuel was not topped up so cost of bring it into the city ended up being down to me. Returned car undamaged and full of fuel. I have a receipt from the depot to that effect. Final invoice was posted to me, I got it when I got home a week or so later. They charged me for refuelling the car. I used their on line messaging system to complain and ask for a refund. Once in English and second time,a month later, in Italian. After two months I got a glib email telling me the charge was for refuelling and that was it. Replied to the email but am still waiting for an answer, now three months. I’ve got my credit card company on their case and the car hire agency that I used. This company is part of Avis. THIS IS A VERY BAD COMPANY TO DEAL WITH.

They charged us extra money - 121eur after 3 weeks for no reason. I called them 3times with no explainaton from maggiore why the extra costs (we had full coverage, no damage, car returned with full petrol). The answers: "sorry my boss is not here at the moment he will call you later. " second call: "we will have a look the contract and call you back. " third call: "sorry our system is not working, write to our customer service, i don´t see the details in our system. " classic treatment done by... unfortunately i didn´t look at the past references... definately the worst car rental after 40years of renting cars and motorbikes around the world including of third world countries (some known for their tricks)...

“Avoid Maggiore as the plague”

My experience with Maggiore at Pisa Airport is not good. I had ordered (via / linked with Ryanair flight booking) a BMW 2-series actieve tourer automatic, which is group P-automatic. I got a Fiat 500L, which is group I-automatic. The lady at the counter told me that it is the same category, which I told her that I can not believe but I had nothing to verify/proof. Later I checked up on this online to learn that she was simply lying to me. With 2 weeks of rental period, we received the car close to maintenance as it was due in 400 km. This would mean that we would return the car likely with 2000 km over maintenance period. The automatic was not a real automatic, it was an automated manual transmission. This is for driving in flat areas OK but in mountain areas simply dangerous. So I needed to drive in setting manual in order to influence the bad shifting / throttle response linked to these kind of gearboxes (see it as turbo-lag times 3). Whipper fluid reservoir was completely empty, and that you notice when it is too late. Customer service is non existing: I wrote an e-mail to ask for getting a good car (not exceeding maintenance with 10%, with fluids properly topped off, and from the category I ordered as those have normal automatic!). As you can guess NO response. So, if you like to pay for something you will never get (read also other experiences when Googling on Maggiore Pisa Review), and are fine to get no customer service at all ... then you should be good with Maggiore and likely Sixt as it is at the same desk, same envelopes with keys, same pool with cars. For me no Maggiore and Sixt anymore!

We hired a car for a trip into the Alps from the airport. We booked with Maggiore through a 3rd party rental website. We were very clear we had insurance and required no other extras, but, unknown to us, the tiny boxes for all extras were ticked and we were billed an extra €350 on top of our rental cost once we returned to the UK. Deceitful and money-grabbing - take your money elsewhere, I will avoid this company at all costs in the future.

“Do not rent from Maggiore Car Rental!”

Do not rent from Maggiore Car Rental. I booked a DS3 last summer in Naples and got an Audi Q3, good you might say. However, My credit card was double charged and I’m still waiting for the money to return.

Does Maggiore charge if you going out to Switz by rental car? Is it okay to have national Canadian driver license to rent a car in Italy?
