Had a leak from the radiator which damaged goods to the some of £500 and damage to ceiling and carpet. We were told that our excess on contents was£350 and house damage also £350. Tried to claim £350 from the £700 paid for a plumber and decorator but met with indifference. Thought quote was cheap but pointless if the service is rubbish. My advice is stay away, lots of small print and get out clauses.

Avoid like the plague!
I am really surprised they are still in business,.Their boiler insurance is just a bare faced ripoff. They will just not pay out and their claims staff are the rudest I have ever come across.

“So disappointed I'm lost for words now.”

★★☆☆☆

written by kevandmaria on 04/12/2015

Early November 2015 my house had a leak all of downstairs flooded. Rung AA whom I'm insured with, they then pass it over to a insurance company called Crawford they said loss adjuster will be round couple of days he arrived done his work said there's too much damp in the house we need to move you out for health reasons so we went into a hotel for couple of days but it was to expensive to stay longer, nearly 4 weeks later we are still in the house, cut a long story short we are still stuck in the house living in a building site,my 6 year old daughter is now on antibiotics for chest infection, under our insurance we were told we have up to £20,000 relocation, the shortest let we can get is 6 months which is £2,000 per month which is the rate for Surrey still below there £20,000 but they are saying we only have £1,500 per month but as we keep saying to them in Surrey we we can't find nothing appropriate for that. We are told that we get like for like and all they are trying to put us in is a flat with no parking -where do we put our cars on double yellow lines ! So here we are 3 weeks before Christmas and everytime I call for an update all I get is the person you need to speak to is on the phone or your claim is too high for us to authorise and has been passed to my manager and another 2 days pass and no return of call so yet again I call again and nobody will make a decision so we are still in the same position living on concrete floors with exposed pipes running through the house and damp but hey nobody will sign of the house we found... this is what you pay insurance for high stress levels!! The advise is be careful who you choose for house insurance as "AA" who use "Crawfords"are useless so be prepared for a battle because you'll end up with nothing. We will post on here with any progress report so you can all see the battle we are having or improvement we are having we will see.

“Appalling”

written by PerlaMoreno31 on 20/11/2015

I cancelled my renewal for contents insurance by phone but AA did not log the call or carry out my instructions. They are now bombarding me demanding payment for what they claim is payments owing ( small amount but it is principle). On ringing them on two occasions to sort out their mistake iwas spoken to in a rude manner and yet again had money demands made on me. They also said they would continue the demands even though i said this would be seen as harrasment as they could not send me any proof of their claims. This is the 2nd time they have done this to me but it will be the last. Customer service non existant, rude arrogant staff on the phones and a bullying way of dealing with people is prevalent within this company. AVOID

I have had the further misfortune to have to ring your company again spending over an hour on the phone getting nowhere. The number on the letter i recieved was the wrong number leading to another 2 un necessary calls and still your company is trying to charge me for cover up to today for a policy i cancelled/did not renew in september, Mis information given all round by the staff. This is going round in circles and i will not put up with the unprofessional behaviour of AA staff.

“Took six weeks to fix our fence”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Dallasl52 on 20/11/2015

We have only been with this company for a year. We hav never made a claim even with our old company but as getting older wanted to get a better deal. We had a drunk young driver crash thru our concrete fence. We live on a main road in hendeson and hav two small dogs whom we luv. six weeks later they are just about to repair it hopefully. Asked if because we had to make a make do fence to keep our dogs in could we claim back those costs. The girl we spoke to said No and to keep them inside. do they know anything about being a pet owner. I don't think so.I think it pays to pay a bit more and hav issues dealt with sooner. Sorry AA you stink!,,,,,

“Do Not Trust AA to cancel your policy over the phone”

★☆☆☆☆

written by stansalt on 16/11/2015

Decided to cancel AA home and contents insurance and go with the Co-op. Phoned to cancel 19 days before it was due to be paid spoke to young lady, yes sir I will do that now. Luckily noted down day time and name. Then paid the Co-op, guess what the AA took the money anyway. When I phoned to complain and to get my money the lady was not really bothered, she said (well you will get your money back). Not, we are sorry, or this should not happen, as though she was very familiar with the topic of the conversation. So if you do cancel an AA insurance please check that they really do what the say and not take the money out of your account.

After the renewal coming in over £200 more than anyone else I cancelled only to be told that I'll still have one more payment to make.... As well as paying for my new policy. When I called I stated that because I've left I've screwed myself as I have to pay for 2 policies I was told that this is 'keep people with us!' I told them ram it! Absolutely mad as hell!!!! Worst ever

“Worse customer service ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AvaLawrence on 05/07/2015

I had cover for a 1 bedroom flat for a single person. My renewal price after no claims was increased. I cancelled the policy over the phone due to moving property and not accepting a rubbish renewal rate. I was advised it was cancelled with IMMEDIATE effect. After a month and moving i cancelled the direct debit. To then receive threatening letters that my policy had lapsed and there was a further £12 admin fee added. The service i received after phoning up to complain about this was shocking, when i explained i thought it was cancelled as the advisor had said with immediate effect the response i got was they never said that !! When i argued i wanted the call listened to i was then advised "we both know what the call will say !! Very rude unhelpful and a total rip off for very basic cover. It turned out the advisor did say with immediate effect and no action required by myself. Would not recommend the AA services, they also proceeded to slate the services of another well known car breakdown cover company when i advised i did not want auto renewal on my AA breakdown cover.

Sounds spot on for the AA. I get the impression that they do not run the insurance side of the business themselves but rent it out to the lowest bidder. I was bullied and threatened when I cancelled too.

“Appalling Incompetence”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DylanDixon on 21/09/2014

If the AA could be given zero stars then this would have happened. Their letters are misleading, their customer support don't know what they are doing and provide conflicting information, the premiums are competitive, what more do you need to know. The incompetence, errors and misinformation are too numerous to detail here. They have been referred to the Insurance Ombudsman and to Trading Standards for misleading information. Avoid AA Insurance like the plague!

“Rip off and I'm too embarrassed to say how much I was...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AnikaHall420 on 05/09/2014

I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years and decided to check on my roadside recovery and house and contents which were both with the AA. I looked at comparison websites and review websites Wow have I been a fool for so many years or what? IN MY EXPERIENCE The AA are dreadful and extremely expensive. I went to cancel my road side recovery and asked until when would I be covered up to. They said immediately and I asked would I be refunded my money immediately. Oh no that would be 7 to 10 days. The AA used to be a family friendly organisation you could rely on. They are now a money making machine with no interest in me other than ripping me off for the last 10 years. I will never ever use them again Avoid

“Disgraceful ripoff”

★☆☆☆☆

written by NeilMc1 on 27/08/2014

Had house insurance with AA for years. Renewal arrived so I checked the price. Buildings and Contents £730 p.a. Moneysupermarket.com found best price £167 and 8th on that list was the AA at £185. Over the years I must have been ripped off for thousands of pounds just for being loyal/naïve. Never again. Avoid like the plague!!

“Telephone manner pants!”

written by Lance25 on 21/08/2014

I rang up to ask about whether they insured uni students as my son is off to uni and we have insurance with them. The young buck at the end of the phone was slick, quick and very rude as he sighed heavily whilst I was asking my question. I am slightly deaf so must have been a loud sigh. My husband has had the same problem. People like us keep you in a job so dont be so quick to get hacked off with us. Remember what comes around goes around.

“Avoid the AA Insurance !!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 128Kinney on 06/06/2014

I used AA insurance via Moneysupermarket for home insurance. I thought the policy was excellent value for money. However, at the end of the policy they hiked the prices up to nearly three times the amount I was paying to begin with. I wrote to them, gave them notice that I wished to cancel the policy at the end of the term. They wrote to me confirming they would do this. I made all 12 payments via direct debit and only cancelled my direct debit after the last payment had been paid to them. They sent me a letter saying my account balance was zero and the policy had ended but I then recieved a letter saying i owed them money and they would send a bailiff around and take me to Court if I didn't pay up. On contacting them they told me that the last payment hadn't been received and so they were adding a £12 "administration fee" to the balance outstanding. I referred them back to their own correspondence and eventually they have come back to say that as a gesture of goodwill they will write the payment off. What really annoys me though is that now this is on my credit file and will affect my credit rating but they were in the wrong. I definitely made all 12 payments and I have bank statements to prove it. Their letter said my account balance was ZERO which was correct, so how they can then send a threatening letter asking for payment is beyond me. Also, they tried to take payment from a card when they were not authorised to do so. Really bad and i would AVOID them at all costs.

“accidental damage to contents a waste of time lack of...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 30/04/2014

I have just had the unfortunate experience of trying to make a claim on my contents insurance. Council are refurbishing our kitchens and bathrooms. We had a leak from the bathroom that has ruined our two piece suit and damaged carpets. The carpets were also damaged by the use of the plastic adhesive sheeting that was supposed to protect the carpets.Called AA and passed onto E Underwriting explained what had happened was told no prob if you wish to make a claim just call and they will proceed.Made the claim only to be told that as it was builders negligence the claim was likely to be refused.I then asked what I could do about this and was told bluntly to go to citizens advice but as claim was being processed to wait till a decision had been made. I Called a few days later and was told that the claim was being processed but they would be writing to me and arranging a purchaser to call to evaluate my claim. Five days later I am being told that my claim was rejected due to builders negligence. I then asked how do I proceed with this as they were my insurer I wanted help and advice I was told that as the claim had been rejected it was not there job to advise me. My payment to them must entitle me to some service. Even more confused now as I have received a call from a company appointed by AA to assess the damage to my property. Will review review after visit and i know what the hell is going on with my claim.

“I gave AA all my insurance business----They gave me...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by stradbally on 13/02/2014

Last year I gave AA insurance services all of my household and travel insurance business. They were great at selling it and "talking the talk", but then it all goes downhill! This week during the gales that swept our area, damage was done to my roof (ridge tiles blown off).Needless to say, that with a hole in my roof, shipping in water, I phoned AA claims line, and instead of the help that I expected,I was instructed to go and get 2 seperate estimates from 2 seperate companies, and take photographs also, and submit these to them for a decision. This would have taken at least a week to achieve, with water entering my roofspace all this time. So the end result is I have a local roofer coming to do the job tommorow at my expense. My first priority is protecting my property, NOT the first priority at AA obviously! Just in case I had been given the wrong info, I followed it up with a phone call to AA insurance customer services, who confirmed the above instructions. To sum up:--- Having AA home insurance, who dont react effectively when you have a crisis, and you then have to pay someone to do it anyway, IS A LITTLE LIKE HAVING A DOG AND BARKING ONESELF.Do not even consider using this company for ANY SERVICE AT ALL.You cannot depend on them to be there for you when you need them most. I have emailed the AA/Saga chief executive, requesting that he contacts me to discuss the matter, but I`m not holding my breath for a response from him. I wonder if I get ill on holiday, and need to claim on my AA travel insurance, Would they have me shopping round for estimates from 2 different hospitals plus taking photos before they authorised any treatment?? If I could have scored them less than 1 star I would have.

“Unreliable, Inconsistent Cheat of a Company - AA boiler ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AA_Boiler_Reviewer on 10/02/2014

I have had AA boiler cover for around 2.5 years. When I first made an appointment for annual service they gave me a slot of All day so I had to stay at home all day and nobody showed up. When I called AA they told me it was not their because the 3rd party they use should have come. Wonderful! I YELLED at them and they were nice again and said oh so sorry we will help you and made another appointment. The first time I had a problem they sent an engineer he examined my boiler from the outside and in one minute told me that there is sludge and they would not touch it till the system is flushed out, he refused to open boiler and fix the main problem. So I had to call them and basically YELL at them about the incomptent engineer, then they sent another engineer - this guy was really good and knew his stuff and was nice, wow, he fixed my problem I had hot water again but still said I needed flush and told me one boiler needed to be replaced(explained and showed me the problem), fantastic. Subsequent expriences with AA can only be described like this : they are horrible, mean , incompetent, carefull, inconsistent and don't give a damn about their customers. BUT if you call them and start YELLING at them and threatening them with legal action they suddenly become NICE again for a while and then the cycle starts again. The last time I had a problem the said my heat plate needed to be replaced and they will not cover it due to sludge. Then they gave me a quote for the work and offered to do it for that price, surprise a few hours later they called and said we changed our mind we can't do it. Then I said so why do I have cover with you, surprise, they agreed with me and said you can leave us we will refund you your payment. However they sent me a letter saying we will not let you cancel till you pay us the remainder of payment. So I did what AA responds to best, I called and YELLED at them - said u told me this and then did that ... so I will take legal actions, then of course they became NICE again and said sorry we will send a letter now saying you can cancel and we will refund payment. This is such a MESSED up company, why don't they just go back to automobile insurance and whatever they did before. I stayed with them for so long as I though they are new and will get better. Please Pleast DO NOT take AA boiler cover. Unless of course you are prepared to YELL at them everytime something happens to make them respond, that is the language they understand. It's an uncivilized company.

“Beware - avoid at all costs”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Goddersnewport on 07/01/2014

AA Home Emergency Insurance does not live up to its title. I reported a major water leak from beneath my conservatory 5 days ago. AA sent an engineer same day, who because of the work involved & the age of the pipework RECOMMENDED a re-route of the water feedpipe through my garage - a very simple & cost-effective solution.Today I have been advised by AA that my policy does not cover the incident as the engineer only made a recommendation & in any case they will not repair pipes beneath concrete (including driveways).5 days without water pressure with no subsequent resolution is unacceptable. I have no longer any faith in AA Insurance policies so am cancelling all others.
