“Worst customer “service” ever!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Aline12345 on 18/06/2022

Forgot my drivers licence and we wanted to change the main driver to my husband who was added as the second driver. First of all there was no phone number available so we had to use the live chat. There they told us they cannot make any amendments to the booking and that it clearly stated to bring a drivers licence. Super unhelpful and unfriendly staff who are clearly drilled to repeat generic phrases. No service whatsoever, all we wanted to do is change a name but they just wouldn’t do it so we lost £150 and couldn’t get the car. Horrendous company who is clearly doesn’t care about their customers at all. Worst experience yet.

“Misleading and a useless middleman ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 17/04/2022

Terrible user experience and customer service. This company does nothing to benefit you or the car rental business as a middle man. If you run into an issue you’ll have to dance around their terrible customer service. Full of dark patterns to skim money as a middle man. Found this third party trying to filter search results for an all wheel drive vehicle. This completely misled me to believe I reserved an all wheel drive through them at Thrift only to find out upon arrival I did not have an all wheel drive reserved and had to pay additional money. Secondly, I shared an expected pick up time at 10pm when my flight landed, however unbeknownst to me Thrifty closes at exactly 10pm. Rhino Car Hire did not share this information with Thrifty and I ended up paying an additional day that I did not have the car. If Rhino Car Hire can’t even share my details with the rental agency then they have no business being a third party and need to get out of the business.

“Definitely not recommending”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SylwiafromManchester on 08/04/2022

I'm really disappointed with this car hire. I booked a car for Los Angeles in March 2022 for 2 weeks. Unfortunately they didn't have a proper car for me: Ford Mustang convertible in LAX Avis. A nice Avis manager apologised, canceled my booking, promised a full refund and helped us to find the car we wanted in the other car hire. Unfortunately Rhino refused to give me my money back. They are trying to find out several pointless reasons to keep my money! I know its about 1,100 GBP! You Rhino weren't able to hire me the proper car, so give me my money back! I'm not recommending Rhino at all! I'm soooo disappointed!

“Taking money without authorisation”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Nicole325 on 05/07/2014

Up until this booking have used Rhinocarhire several times without problem and would have recommended to friends. This time has (is being) terrible. I made a booking and they confirmed by email the amount they would take as a deposit and then the balance 5 days before pickup. They took a different amount as my deposit and then took the balance 3 months before my pickup date instead of 5 days before. Now trying to cancel and get refunded and it does not seem very easy - beware...

“Fantastic Service & a Wonderful Car”

★★★★★

written by Frogfish on 29/10/2013

Rhino sorted out all our car hire needs for a recent road trip to California. An amazingly easy process, with helpful staff happy to help over the phone when we needed to tailor the trip a little. We picked up the car from one location and, due to an unforeseen emergency, had to drop it off at a different location, and it was all made very easy and we were not charged extra. The prices were so good that we decided to upgrade to a convertible Ford Mustang to make the most of the Californian Coastline and it was great! We would recommend Rhino to anyone looking to hire a car in the future.

“The ultimate car rental combination”

★★★★★

written by Zaske on 25/10/2013

I read some horror stories about agents in Spain and Greece. The agent I selected was in Clapham Road, Kennington. U.K. (Alamo) The conditions of rental were extensive but fair. I had with me all documents that were listed. The desk clerk asked for my surname, passport and Australian issued licence. No other details were required. They supplied a car with the engine size specified. The whole operation only took a few minutes. The car was spotless with only 3000 ml on the clock. I drove the car all over the U.K. on a 33 day hire and added nearly 5000 ml. Some other car rental companies will not hire for periods longer than 28 days. Returned the car with no fuss by the staff. The agent and Rhino provided 5 star service.

“beware of excessive fuel charges”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jimmitchell on 01/05/2013

good car but got charged £85 for fuel when the tank would only have cost £55 to fill up in menorca it does say in terms and conditions they do charge more than it does if you fil it yourself but where do they justify an extra £30 to fill it up so beware of this hidden cost . go for a hire car where you rturn it full. as i was in menorca for one week and did 400km and the tank was still over half full .you would have to be driving all day every day to use a full tank

“No hassle car hire”

★★★★★

written by tighnasithguesthouse on 07/12/2012

All went well no hiccups - all as booked. The whole quote and booking system was easy to understand and modify to suit our needs for the type of vehicle required and level of cover suitable for our trip. No miss communication or confusion. On arrival at Orlando Airport processed quickly and efficiently and wasnt hard sold upgrades or not needed extras. On vehicle collection I noticed a small nail in tyre when walking round car - mentioned it and was given another vehicle immediately no hassle at all. We will use Rhino again.

“Nightmare at Pisa airport”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 16/11/2012

We stood for over 1 hour in a big queue at the Goldcar desk. The staff were rude and aggressive in trying to sell us their excess insurance at 25 euros per day, even though we had already bought it online at £15 for a week's hire but they insisted they didn't "recognise it"', which is nonsense, since covering the excess is a contract between us and the insurance company, not the car hire firm. They gave us a badly scratched car, which went OK. They charged us for a full tank of petrol (which we couldn't use) at a rate well above anything we saw at local garage forecourts. If you have your own excess insurance, you will find their theft excess is very high at 1200 euros, which they reserve on your credit card, so you need to be able to allow for this in planning your holiday. Some people were caught out by this and were making phone calls to their credit card company at the desk to raise their limit. One couple hadn't read, or didn't understand the small print, couldn't afford the excess insurance they charged and didn't have enough credit to cover the excess, so had to leave without a car. They spent a lot of time arguing about the fact they would lose their deposit. All this slows up the queue, of course. (If you buy their excess insurance you don't have to reserve the 1200 euros on your card.) We went over the car thoroughly, making sure we had recorded every scratch, since we felt they might try to catch us out on return, such was our lack of confidence in them. We finally drove away after one hour 45 minutes. Never again. Avoid.

“Tried to give us a wrecked car ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by blulady on 26/10/2012

We had an awful experience with Rhino Car at the Faro Airport in Portugal. After collecting our bags we headed to the car rental area and Rhino was nowhere to be found. I asked the lady at the Europcar desk if she could tell me where Rhino Car was and she directed me to go to the end of the building, exit the building, go across the walkway and into the parking lot on the other side and that I would find them. We had a large cart of bags and had to push it all the way out there (some of it is up a ramp making this very difficult). We finally found this portable shed like thing with several counters and these little companies were renting their cars from there. I found the guy servicing Rhino and started the task of paperwork. The price was supposed to be "all inclusive" - my Visa card covers all insurance and I as instructed by my credit card, I declined the extra insurances they wanted to charge me, but the wanted to put a 750 Euro hold on my card. I agreed... I just wanted to get a car and get out of there. Next he made me pay him 20 Euro in cash to cover tolls - even though I told him we were not going to use any toll roads whatsoever. He told me I would get my 20 back if we didn't use any tolls. So... I gave him the 20. Finally after copying my passport and signing a bunch of forms he starts to lead us to our car. We finally get to our car half way cross the parking area and it looked like someone started at the front driver's tire and beat the thing with a ball bat all the way to the rear bumper. The entire driver's side of the car was smashed - I did not wish to spend my whole vacation driving a beat up car that I wouldn't even drive at home. At this point I told the man absolutely not - refund my money right now. He was not pleased about this and wanted to see if he could find me another car - at this point my sister let me know that while I was doing all the paper work (she was a couple of yards away with out bag cart) may people were complaining about the condition of the cars they were being given. I finally got all the credit card charge cancellation slips and then had to demand my 20 Euros back (the supposed fee for the tolls that he shoved in his pocket). The whole situation seemed VERY shady.... We then went all the way back into the airport (pushing that luggage cart) and went to the Avis counter and promptly rented a vehicle in good condition.

“Not a good start to a well deserved holiday”

★☆☆☆☆

written by TheGreenwanderer on 10/10/2012

We booked a car through Rhino for a holiday in Majorca and were directed to a company called GOLDCAR RENTAL. On arrival at the airport we were greeted by long ques at the desk whilst the other rental companies desks were empty. It took us longer to collect the vehicle than it did to fly from the UK to Majorca. Whilst it was frustrating for us, we did not have children with us but lots of the people in the que had toddlers and or babies so you can imagine how they felt. The staff were rude and aggressive. The vehicle had a full tank of fuel for which we were charged €85 and told to return the vehicle with an empty tank. This is nothing other than a money making excersise. We managed to use most of the fuel as we were there for two weeks but my daughter and her family had a car and were only there for one week. Unless you spend the whole week driving around the island, you will not use a full tank of diesel in one week and guess what. . . the car was returned with two thirds of a tank of fuel but no doubt the next hirer was charged for a full tank. Nothing short of a ripp off and I will not be using them again. I sent Rhino an email but surprise surprise no reply.

“Best rate in Iceland”

★★★★★

written by on 10/09/2012

We paid $700 for a 9 day rental and that includes dropping off at a different location across the country. We received a VW Golf from Budget in Akureyri and dropped it off in Keflavik. The entire process was stress free and Budget did honor our prepaid rate.

“Terrible - damper on my hol”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 09/09/2012

Got to airport, no desk for car hire company that Rhino had booked me on (BK Car hire, Menorca, terrible also). Spent half and hour looking outside where other rental companies told me I should go. In and out of the airport, finally realised is was a general meeting point in the air port car park, no signs to company. Joined by two other groups who had also had the same trouble. Mini bus to company. Had bought extra insurance on Rhino to avoid excess but told by this car hire company that it was separate to them and I would need to put down a 400 euro deposit on my debit card. Thank god I had the money. Away from the airport on a horrible industrial estate, not in a position to argue. Could next to me also very cross about this as they had insurance. Apparently you need to pay the excess in case of an accident and then claim back from another company. Not as sold on website. Finally, and get this. HAVE TO PAY FOR A WHOLE TANK OF FUEL ON AN ISLAND LIKE MENORCA WHICH IS 45 KM LONG AND 20 WIDE. No idea if amount charged for fuel is genuine, no way of checking. Told them it was unfair and that I wouldn't use it and they said, 'it's ok, we'll refund you'. After travelling several times around the island, still half a tank when I returned, and they refused to refund. i did some calcuations, to use a full tank, I would need to drive 18.5 times end to end of the island in my 7 day trip in order to use the fuel. Complained to Rhino, they sent a final judgement that was factually inaccurate, leaving me no further recourse (shutting case). ABSOLUTELY AND TOTALLY DREADFUL.

“Buyer beware!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ken.s on 23/08/2012

Booked car hire from Manchester airport. All inclusive rate stated on home page , but charged over 100 UK pounds extra for insurance when picking up the car for a 4 day car hire. (over 25 pounds per day!!) Excuse from customer service that not all quotes include insurance - even though websites say all including CDW, theft. licences etc. Not very fast at responding to complaints - Alamo check in desk just shrugged their shoulders as though this happens all the time booking with this outfit. (Not the greatest staff at Alamo Manchester airport must say.) Better buying from a company direct- used Arnold Clark on the next same trip and had great experience - would never book through Rhino again. They need to advise exactly what to expect on pick up.

“Poor ”

★★☆☆☆

written by Hwilliams on 20/08/2012

Booked rhino car in the basis o good reviews and that not that many rental car places in central verona. Booking easy and good price. However when we went to collect our car at 10am we were then told very matter of factly that we would not get a car until 12pm, then 1pm. Refused to give us an alternative car or to provide a refund so we could book elsewhere. Car eventually arrived at 1.30. No apology given. Absolutely terrible service. We will definitely not be using again and I would actively encourage people to avoid them.

“THEY USE GOLDCAR -NIGHTMARE-SERIOUSLY OVERCHARGED/ROBBED”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RCUNNINGHAM on 19/07/2012

Booked a rental car with Rhino car rental from Malaga airport.. Was devastated on arrival to see that Goldcar, the rental firm they used had the longest queue i have ever seen for car rental. I joined the queue and 2 hours later i got to the desk, and was met by rude staff who told me that i definitely didn't have excess insurance. I was pretty sure my rhino car hire covered everything but they (quite aggressively) argued that i definitely did not have excess cover. So I paid for that and they also charged a pretty steep premium for a tank of fuel, almost double the actual cost. Additionally, On arrival back home they then charged my card €130. I phone Goldcar directly to ask what was going on. They tried to tell me that it was for cleaning the car. When i argued that the car was returned in a reasonable condition they immediately said that it was a mistake, and that they would refund me... crooks - still waiting for money. When i highlighted my issues to rhino car telephone staff, they were pretty dismissive, and gave me a website address to log a complaint and would try and resolve it within 20 days. Im sorry but that isn't acceptable when money has been taken for no reason from my card. The internet is littered with very negative comments about Goldcar that mirror my experience so the question Rhinocar has to answer is why do they continue to use them???

Why did they deduct funds from my credit card before confirming that the supplier was able to give the car? This has cost me exchange loss with my bank from pounds to lire and on free cancellation back to pounds. And they have still not credited my bank?
