Like many of the reviews they up sell their pricing insurance policies if you do not take you are guaranteed to be penalised with cost for pre existing damage . They make this possible by having the customer collection in a darkened multi-storey where any minor damage will is not visible. I recently was going through my credit card and noticed that Goldcar had charged me £795.59 after a rental car I hired from Lisbon airport. I don’t know how this could have been the case as the car was returned in immaculate condition with no damage whatsoever. I never received an email or any form of notification telling me the reason for the extortionate charge which Goldcar claim to do so on their website. Unclear explanation of monetary charges from customer service at pickup. £1200 levy on insurance, and charged for a full tank of fuel on return when I took it back full. I Filled the vehicle up to the brim at the closest fuel station I could 7km from the airport, yet they still charged me £49.00 fuel penalty. Will never use them again. My husband and I recently tried to rent a car from Tenerife airport. Our experience with Goldcar was awful. Arrived at 9pm to collect the car (booked through Argus Car Hire along with relevant insurance). The price they quote may be very low, but you end up paying a lot more because of their underhand way of adding charges on. I reserved, paid for the car through DOYOUSPAIN and collected it from Malaga Airport. I had read about insurance and had decided not to take it. Got suckered by their low promo. I figured out 2 weeks was the optimum time for major saving. Rented 7 cars consecutively - no issues on the first 5, but they charged me 250 euros on the 6th and 200 euros on the 7th rental for some alleged damage to two wheels (they did not specify which wheel) and for dents to the door and bumper. This is the worst car rental experience in my life, First I had a very poor attention from the person I dealt with in Palma de Mallorca. They tried to sold my an extra insurance and were very agressive... When I return the car I had 1 hour late due to some private issue and the did charge me 60€ and I found this really abusive. We booked goldcar car rental from Ryanair web, together with air tickets to Pisa and car insurance. Once in Pisa’s Goldcar office, we were requested to choose between payment of 1200 EUR as insursnce deposit (that Goldcar would retain until 1 month after car return if no issue on the car) or updrade of insurance (with 169 EUR cost). We rented a car from Goldcar at Catania Airport in Sicily. It took over 90 minutes to organise the booking (a pre-arranged and pre-paid booking, that is), with nothing for our two kids to do in the sparse depot. I have returned the car with a full tank and only a few days later I discovered that I wasn’t refunded my money for the gasoline. Hired a VW Polo Lanzarote airport. Had to wait in line ages as it was taking between 15 -25 minutes to process each client. The car I received had multiple dents and scratches, and the rear seats were sweat stained. Upon returning the car, my wife had put some sand on the carpet from the bottom of her shoe. I know exactly how you feel. If it's any consolation you got off lightly compared to us. They falsified the check-out document, claiming we hadn't recorded the numerous scratches on the bumpers (we had). They took £506.35 out of our account saying WE damaged the bumpers. We fought it and they put every obstacle possible in the way. They repeatedly ignored the points I was making in the emails I sent to customer services and sent their standard response which was 'This case is closed'. I would not accept this and pursued them relentlessly, writing also to the CEO. She didn't respond to me personally but we did manage to get our money back in the end (yesterday, 27/3/19)

I am another victim of Goldcar unfortunately. Furthermore, it concerns Goldcar in Thessaloniki Airport. My advice is to avoid renting a car with Goldcar anyway. They are rude and unhelpful !!! I knew about the bad rating of Goldcar, but I risked and booked a car through Argus Car Hire. Unfortunately, Argus was unable to help in the end even though they told different things before and after the incident. We were also tricked by Interrent (same company as Goldcar) on a recent trip to Tenerife. I wrote a review on here as you have done. I'd be interested to know if you've managed to get your money back (we have, paid it back yesterday). If not, I can advise you who to contact if you're interested. With us, they falsified the check-out document, claiming the scratches on the bumpers hadn't been reported by us on the paperwork when we collected the vehicle (they had). What they are doing is fraud. I'm hoping I can get enough (recent) information about their continued activity to put together a file of evidence to present to the OMIC (similar to Trading Standards in the U.K) Both Interrent and Goldcar are part of the Europcar Mobility Group who were investigated by the serious fraud squad in 2017.

I have an issue with interrent/goldcar and would love your advice and help on who to contact,like others I have been charged for insurance and a diesel vehicle when I specifically declined both also at the point of signature I was misinformed.told it was a refundable deposit, at the moment Goldcar are blanking me and not answering my emails and Holiday autos have not been much help.

Do not use goldcar. Be warned. I hired a car in Alicante and have done so through various companies for many years. I handed back the car in the same condition I received it. I was getting on my flight home when I received an e mail from goldcar to say I scratched two doors. They charged £500 against my credit card. I understand exactly what you're saying because the same happened to us on a recent trip to Tenerife. We recorded the numerous scratches to the bumpers on the 'check-out' document, but what we hadn't bargained for was the 'agent' falsifying the paperwork. He'd already asked us to sign the check-out document in the office, (for the release of the car & keys). but when we reached the car and saw the scratches we insisted they were recorded, (he resisted doing this). He took a photo-copy (allegedly) and gave us a copy. But he submitted the first document we'd signed before the damage was recorded. Interrent took £506.35 out of our account for the damage the claimed WE'D caused to the bumpers. I've fought this relentlessly over the past two weeks and got our money back yesterday. I'm looking to gather as much information as I can over the coming weeks/months so I can pass a file onto the OMIC in Tenerife. Any further details of what happened to you would be much appreciated. What they're doing is wrong, and they are doing it on a grand scale.
