They have cars with hidden damages which they then point out when you take the car back. Or they make up new damages when you’ve already flown home. Their staff are often aggressive, unless they are trying to stop you checking the vehicles thoroughly (in which case they like to keep you talking to distract you). I booked with Goldcar at Malaga Airport and, I have to say, most of the hire itself was ok.I only rented for under 2 days. It took 30mins to do the paperwork, even though it was nearly midnight and I had selected the options to complete details in advanced to save time. When I left, there were about 10 other renters behind.The last one guaranteed to leave not before 2am. I returned my car, no problem. We picked up a car in Alicante Airport where I was told that full insurance cover would increase the booked price eighteenfold. When I declined because I had already arranged cover the attendant became irate told me that they would block off 1,400 euros from my credit card, and explained that my cover would be useless, since they could just charge me for hundreds of euros for anything they deemed and I would not be able to get any of that back. Just returned an older car to Tenerife South Airport. Car was covered in scratches, dings, dents etc. But upon returning it, they have decided that one of these scratches is our responsibility. What a joke! The car is a complete mess! The idiot who came to look at it (an absolute mess of a women) told us "you can tell its a new scratch because of the colour" - absolute rubbish. I would give Goldcar no stars if I could! We hired from Valencia Airport in June 2018. Pre booked the cost was 40 Euros (£34).Bargain? Oh no! We were charged a deposit of 1100 euros because we didn't need their own insurance. On our credit card that came up as £1090.51. They choose their own ridiculous exchange rate as this worked out at approx. 1.08 when the going rate was approx. 1.14. At check-in car described as quite new in perfect condition. No one assisted at the parking lot, I had to look for the car in a dark place. Car not washed, a lot of scratches and dents. My family had an awful experience with goldcar , we arrived in at night to Nice and hoped for a simple collecting of prearranged cars at the airport but instead we were met by aggressive , unfriendly staff members . In short, hired car for four people, given one with two seats. Paid extra for cover in france but when had problem told we were not covered. No spare wheeel, told to pay for repair and /or pay from an hours taxi ride to pick up new car and they would refund at office. Easy enough to confirm booking at airport. Car originally wasn't in right place in pickup area. Eventually found shabby, dirty car - marked on paper work as slight damage on front wing - LARGE bash on front wing. Walked round car to inspect, as we were instructed to do. I rented at Palma Airport. There was a long queue probably because prices seem very competitive. However, on return to U.K. it turned out that I had been charged 56€ for a diesel car and so called smart rental (where there is no penalty charge if you don't return the car full, just the cost of the replacement fuel). Hired from Goldcar at Malaga Airport . Tried to sell me Excess insurance which i REFUSED as i had my own Insurance for Car Hire excesd POLICY . Annual one i buy yearly. He charged me €229 saying it was fuel and security deposit when i questioned the large amount. He got aggressive saying the full amount would be refunded on return with a full Tank of fuel. We booked online through their website for a car from the airport, returning to their office by the port. When we arrived at the airport they told us actually their port office would be closed that day. I had to spend €4.20 on a phone call to sort out a refund and make a new booking at a higher price. She offered me an upgrade because they did not have the car I ordered, also gave me the choice of manuel/automatic and emphazised that it will be at the same cost to me.
