The staff were unhelpful from start to finish. A huge waiting time when we arrived. Aggressive when offering to purchase full protection, we refused. When we handed car back, said there was a scrape which we caused. And charged a standard €250. Whilst in queue I noticed other customers mentioning that certain marks hadn’t been recorded on their inventories. I’ve used Goldcar a few times. New cars, great value, on airport so convenient. This time we somehow managed to lock the key in the car when returning it. The Goldcar staff were really helpful and didn’t charge. They promptly refunded the unused fuel. There was a charge for refuelling but this was clear when I booked and it saved the hassle of filling up before returning it. We have just encountered a similar problem. We booked a car in July and signed the check out for detailing minor scratches to the paint work ect. They have just charged my credit card 230euros and whilst attaching a blank sheet stated with a printed copy of an unsigned check out form detailing no damage. They clearly make claims. Very hard to contact them directly as we booked our car through a third party company who the booked with gold car.

DO NOT USE GOLDCAR!!! We returned a car in Malaga last week, completely fine just as we started with. The inspector checked it all off and said there was no damage, full tank, no problems, will get our money back in a few days. We took photos of the entire car at drop off after reading all the negative reviews just in case. 2 hours later we received an email saying on another review there was damage of €150 with a different photo of then what we took. This has just happened to us in Murcia! They put £307 on our credit card when we had our own insurance. They are claiming that they won’t refund it but I won’t give up.
Seems that they do it a lot! Good luck

I can not recommend anyone to use this horrible rent-a-car company. Not only are they unfriendly and arrogant, but they will tell you that the insurance that you have purchased from their partner (DoYouSpain), is not valid and it does not cover anything. Then they get angry when you say that you will take the chance and they will search for any reason, to not having to rent the car to you. Dirty cars, not full of fuel as promised, engine lights on and poor maintenance. Your fuel deposit will be returned minus 20 euros even if the car is returned full as they have extortionate exchange rates. Many people charged for damage days later even though the car was returned in perfect condition. Don't think this happens to other people and you will be fine because odds are they will RIP YOU OFF. Upon arriving to pick up the vehicle that was “paid in full” with additional insurance purchased online at I was told that the insurance I contracted w/ the the booking company was no good. To pick up the vehicle I was required to pay “Full Coverage” Insurance at 69.95€ a day ($2098 a month!) or I would required to deposit 1100€ which would be returned immediately after drop off but takes up to a month to release hold. I suppose it was to be expected with such a good value headline rental but that in itself is devious and misleading. When we finally got through the check in queue after 20 minutes the hard sell for extra charges began. First the mileage was limited to 1,000 km which hadn't been made clear when booking, so that was another Euro 50, and then the saga about damages and inspection began. Was lured by the price at first and without doing any prior research went ahead and booked them. These guys employed are absolute swindlers (and I am using the most positive term I can think of). They will find every small detail to over charge you and sell every price of policy and insurance there is to offer. TERRIBLE SERVICE. Paid 1,500 Euro deposit with my rental at Ibiza Airport on the 24th of May. Still waiting for it to be reimbursed as we go into July despite repeated calls and emails to chase. I was a Goldcar client for a couple of times. The price will lure customers to rent again, as it happened to me. They couldn't lure me to spend MORE in insurance whole coverage or fuel tank full policy, so they told me about a little damage on the car painting. Santander Airport. Horrible experience. I am not one of those people who argue at the desk; this time I had no choice. -Booked in UK, paid 60euros on UK bank account. Arriving in Alicante airport to collect the car, using my Spanish card: 1. 60euros charged a second time for the hire car 2. 80euros charged, instead of agreed 20euros, for a car upgrade 3. 80euros for fuel! We had a terrible experience with this guys in Mallorca during May. We reserve a car through Norwegian website, paid the full price including full insurance. When arrived to Mallorca Airport, GoldCar rental personnel asked for additional fees, and also threaten us that we should pay more than 100 euros for full insurance or leave 900 euros deposit on a credit card. Like many of the reviews they up sell their pricing insurance policies if you do not take you are guaranteed to be penalised with cost for pre existing damage . They make this possible by having the customer collection in a darkened multi-storey where any minor damage will is not visible.
