Nigel O'Hara Jewellers which is closing down.12:23Thursday 19 November 2015 A company operating the online Nigel O’Hara jewellery business is facing 10 charges related to unfair trading. The case against JRN Jewellers and its director will be heard at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on December 1. The Director and the company are charged with five counts of engaging in misleading commercial practice, three counts of engaging in unfair commercial practice, and two of knowingly/recklessly engaging in commercial practice. JRN Jewellers, confirmed that the company has had to close with the loss of more than 35 jobs. The Director, of Linvara, Tandragee, said, “This is a very difficult time for staff, family members and customers of the business. I am unable to comment further at this stage.” The case is being brought by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment’s Trading Standards Service, under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. The charges relate to dates between December 1, 2013 and November 7, 2014. Among the allegations are incorrect prices for goods, including watches, advertised on the Nigel O’Hara website; and claims of a ‘hurry, sale ends tonight’ claim which, it is alleged, were false ‘because the sale did not end on that night’. It is further alleged that JRN Jewellers advertised that a television had been discounted from the previous selling price whereas the TV ‘had never been offered for sale at the higher price’, and that the Nigel O’Hara website offered to supply a watch without disclosing that it would not be able to supply it. Charges also include taking payment ‘without ascertaining if you were in a position to supply the product ordered at the price indicated withing a reasonable time’, failure to refund money within the time periods stipulated, and offering a 100 per cent cash back prize, without awarding the prizes described or a reasonable equivalent. Last week, the Nigel O’Hara Jewellers shop in Portadown announced it was closing after 42 years in business.

After placing an order for a Dell Laptop on 29th September I was rather surprised that the money left my account before receiving any confirmation that my order had been dispatched. However I received a text to my phone stating i would be kept up to date with progress on dispatch of my order so i waited patiently On the 15th October i had heard nothing so got in touch via the website. Firstly they attempted to stall me a number of times with "we are due to receive your item shortly" and "your order priority has been upgraded to high" and eventually "we do not have a specific date for arrival of your item due to delays we have encountered". After seeing other reviews on this review site I swiftly went about cancelling this order I have spent the last 3 weeks week trying to secure a refund . Despite numerous promises and apologies from the customer service process , surprise - no refund and today this messgae was posted on there website : " Due to unforeseen circumstances the JRN Retail Group, trading as Nigel O’Hara, will not be able to fulfil your order or provide you directly with a refund. Please do not panic, as you will be able to obtain a full refund via the method of payment used to complete your purchase on our website. Simply contact the bank or credit card used for your purchase, then ask them to initiate a chargeback for the transaction. This process will see the money returned to you in full. We wish to sincerely apologise for the obvious inconvenience caused. Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer any further customer support or refund solutions" I am currently going through the dispute process with my bank to get my money back , and I can tell you this is not straightforward and there are no guarantees... I am £700 out of pocket with little likelihood of getting it back before Christmas . Please, please don't make the same mistake i did ......

I placed 3 orders with this company for jewellery items. They were out of stock, but a pre -order. After waiting for many weeks and delivery dates extended daily, I requested cancellation of my orders. Note this company has no telephone contact numbers, everything is done on a support ticket which they do not always reply to. To cut a long story short, many weeks later I have not received neither confirmation of the refund, nor the refund itself. In fact on one of my orders they have closed the order claiming I have received it ( without telling me this, and despite me telling them that I only received one item out of the 3 and them confirming that was because the other items were in stock.) Be very careful with this company, as I can see I may end up being out of pocket for a lot of money

Placed order on the 26th September for delivery by the 11th October. Still not been dispatched by the 1st November but still taking orders for product at a higher price. Have been told that I can have a refund but I would prefer just to have the product I ordered at the original price offered. I should have done my research before placing the order and saved myself the hassle as it looks like this is a recurrent problem. If they did not want to sell me the item at the price offered I would have preferred them just to be honest about it and cancel the order.

I ordered a Samsung TV on 3rd October and after chasing a couple of times was informed that they are unsure when the item will be in. I've opened several 'live support' tickets to establish what is happening and had no reply for over a week. There is no way of contacting them by phone, their twitter account has blocked direct messaging. It feels like they have taken my money and holding on to it (probably gaining interest by the day) and making life a misery trying to get it back! Don't be fooled by their attractive prices! Nigel O'hara should be stripped immediately of any trading licenses and closed down. AVOID!!!!!!! If only I had conducted some research prior to my so called purchase, I am now left out of pocket and unable to buy a new TV!

READ THE REVIEWS!!...I didn't and regretted it for over a month. The home page said 'Available', not 'Available to Order' as they claimed (I've got the screenshots) but they needed to order it from the suppliers. The first dellivery estimate came and went, the second came and went and the third. No package...I asked for some evidence they had actually ordered the item, they said they don't release supplier information. I suggested a redacted version would do, but they refused. All this time they were very polite and the replies came reasonably fast. At this point I began to get worried and read the Consumer Contracts law. I now realized they were breaking several regulations regarding provision of information about their online shop (not connected to the shop in Ireland, I checked). I immediately requested a refund and they said they would comply 'As soon as possible'. I got the refund literally hours before the legal deadline of 14 days expired. By this time I had found the item only slightly cheaper at another online store and had it in my hand within two days. I can only guess they use the whole thing for cashflow as some other reviewers have suggested on some sites. Conclusion....AVOID!!

Having had my previous Panasonic TV for 9'years, I though it was time to replace it. Having saved up'£700 for a new one I decided on a Samsung 40 inch Curved TV. My local dealer was selling the same one for £949. Nigel O'Hara was selling the same one for £695. I thought it was a no brainer...how wrong could I be. I was told I would need to wait 2 weeks for delivery. Two weeks passed, three weeks four weeks nothing. I asked or a refund.p due to the time and went to my local Currys and bought a slightly poorer model. However I really needed that money back . I was told it would take 14 days. After 21 days with nothing back I searched Google and to my horror I am not alone. I paid via PayPal and they assure me they have frozen my money which will be returned in 10 days. Nigel O'Hara whatever scam you are doing you are a disgrace taking money from honest hard working people and refusing to deliver and then hand it back when promised. I am contacting the BBC as this cannot go on. Rogue traders here we come!

They took my money 3 weeks ago and I can't even get them to send me an order confirmation email. I'd think the order never went through except the money promptly left my bank. Not 1 reply to numerous emails over a 3 week period...not 1!!! Am waiting for 30 days to pass before I can take action with bank etc. They don't deserve the 1 star I have given them... NOT ONE EMAIL OR REPLY!!!!!!!!

I ordered a PlayStation 4 on the 4th August, no correspondence or delivery information given after a month of emailing so I cancelled the order and requested a refund, now into October and still no refund I've opened dozens of so called 'support' tickets and nothing!!! Nigel O'hara should be stripped immediately of any trading licenses it has and closed down!!!! The owner of the company should have all assets seized this company breaks every retail law there is out there, please do not touch them with a bargepole!!!!!

Essentially this company uses customers like they're short term lone companies. Minus the hideous interest repayments to customers obviously! ;) Think how can a small independent jewellers beat, & by a good margin all the big retailers on top branded electrical goods??? When their bread and butter is jewellery and watches?? Consider, rather than shut the doors completely... It's my opinion they're keeping the lights on as long as possible using my few hundred quid "donation" for a short term lone... Repeated daily with multiple customers! Where will it end for Mr O'Hara????? Surely their reputation has/is getting that bad, they cannot expect to be trading online much longer... Just hope I'm off their merry-go-round and have my refund (thankfully I used PayPal) before the lights go out.

I chose to ignore the reviews as I had purchased from them years ago, that was a mistake. My order went past the estimated delivery date, so I contacted them and decided to wait another week, after which I decided to cancel as they had admitted the were having problems getting the watch. You cannot contact them by phone, only via their "live" support system which usually takes 2 days and then you realise that they do not actually read your email, as their response never fully addresses your query! Twice I asked for a refund, finally getting my credit card company involved. Please be aware and take on board what most people are saying.

This company seems happy to take your money, but from my experience and, having read the reviews, many other people's, they don't seem to like delivering the goods! Not once has the company initiated contact. Upon enquiring, I was told that my Willow Tree Christmas ornaments were not currently in stock but would be shortly. Plausible, as it was only June. Then, having chased them up again, I was told the delivery would be in August (over a month away). I was in no hurry for Christmas ornaments, so was happy to wait. Then, when August came and went, I was told the items were discontinued, which I now know is not true. I was told that because of the time lapse (over 3 months), they couldn't refund the money and I would have to go directly to PayPal and take up a dispute and claim the money back through them. All hassle...and PayPal suggested that there was no reason that the company could not have refunded the money! As I said, not once did the company contact me to let me know the status of my order or that they weren't getting any more items in and if I hadn't kept following up the progress of the order and had forgotten about it, "Nigel O'Hara" would effectively have stolen my money. All customer service contact was plausible, friendly and apologetic...but ultimately ineffective and wildly unhelpful (for me, not them!!). Happy ending...PayPal have refunded my money, but beware if you buy and don't forget you have ordered, otherwise you will have said "Goodbye" to your money!

I ordered an expensive laptop. When after 3 weeks it did not arrive I contacted them after not receiving any information as to what was happening. I was then told that they would have to go directly to the supplier. After another two weeks when I did not receive anything I contacted them again and was told it could be another 2 weeks so I cancelled the order. A representative called me to process the refund and I was told that under the circumstances it would go through quickly. 3 weeks later it still hasn't gone through. What is so infuriating is they don't have a phone number you can call. Avoid them, I am certainly not the only one with bad experiences of them !

Still have my money from an order I've been waiting for since April/May and have now asked for a refund and have had nothing back into my account. It is now Mid September, shop with caution. I am not at all impressed with this shopping web site, it's totally out of order and needs investigating?

I ordered a microwave over 2 months ago, no communication at all however the payment was taken immediately from my credit card. I emailed support 3 weeks ago who promised a refund as the item hasn't been received. Still no response so I am instructing my credit card and hoping I can reverse the payment. Stay away from this company

Avoid this company at ALL costs – Poor communication (Email only - no phone number), very poor service and totally fobbed off when trying to get a refund from an order that was never dispatched!!! > Placed order for a TV - 2 weeks later still no delivery or communication. > Emailed them to follow up - advised the order was coming direct from manufacture. > Waited a further 3 days - still with no communication. > Contacted them again (All by email) advising i wanted to cancel the none dispatched order. Was told it would take up to 14 days to process. > 14 days came and still no refund - contacted them again. Received another vague promise the refund would be processed soon. > Then received another automated email like the first one sent out on request of a refund advising it will be processed in due course!! I'm now instructing my credit card company of the none received item and lack of refund after losing all faith in them processing one.

A long story cut short: I ordered a TV, was made to wait 2 weeks before finding out they couldn't get the stock, was then asked to pay more money for another item, waiting a further 7 days and still nothing so cancelled. All this time I had no telephone number to talk to them on, only port of contact is a message ticketing system, had service tickets ignored, I then worked out what their telephone number was (Because I am smart like that), I called them daily on it about my order, was given mis-information by staff, was told that they don’t give out tracking information (this is among other things is a stalling technique – will explain why at the bottom), had requests for information ignored and more importantly I was lied to about the credit agreement we took out with them. I was told the credit agreement would not start after cancelling the order and it did! Note: If you take out a credit agreement with this company please please PLEASE read the terms and conditions. CloseBrothers are a third party to this company and if you cancel the order with Nigel O’Hara then you yourself will have to cancel the agreement directly with CloseBrothers, the company “Nigel O’Hara” will not cancel it as it is your responsibility even though they say they will, do not believe them make sure your double check everything! No Tracking ID: The reason they won’t give you a tracking ID is because they order it from a supplier, that supplier then send it out via at least two couriers that I could work out. However if they really wanted to they could give you the tracking number and just explain what actually happens instead of playing completely dumb to their own business model that will be the same every single time… In Summary: We eventually thought this company was a bunch of con-artists so we felt we had no choice but to cancel but that said, the TV did actually turn up in the end to our complete amazement. But for us it was too late as this company had completely destroyed any trust we had with them due to lacking and false information provided. Instead we just went to Curry’s and spent the extra on the full RRP. The issues with this company is the mis-information they give you. if they had have just been honest with us, we would be using their TV right now. I didn’t mind waiting the 3+ weeks it took for them to give a customer the TV is paid for, if they had have just been honest with us we would have not minded. But shortly after placing the order our problems started and the trust with this company loomed shortly into the order. So People: If you do decide to order the internet from Nigel O’Hara I can confirm to you that you will receive your goods. But for the lower price you are paying you will be paying the different with your patience. They hide behind a ticketing system that they can choose to ignore if they don’t want to deal with the query or don’t know the answer. As a customer that is poor, we need to know and we have questions. You have no right to block us in the way you are, it really does break the long distance selling confidence. What if we had an issue with a purchase going forward and we were ignored? Your office is in Ireland from what I could see and I am in the UK? You should be offering customer your telephone number and with the customer service extension number… But until you do I will do it for you. So to call customer please find here the local rate telephone number for Nigel O’Hara customer service team <- You’re welcome. To Nigel O’Hara bosses or staff: I generally hope you are reading this. I would have very much liked to have done business with you. Your website looks great and the products you offer are also good. But you need to address a few things here. You need to address how you are dealing with your customers, the contact you are allowing them to have with you and the information you are providing people. If you can sort out these pretty basic things then you will have a good online brand, customer experience and customer retention. I know this because I work for a very big utilise firm and am in marketing. You sort this out and people will use and trust your online division, don’t and continue to receive honest reviews. Piece out

In order to be able to assist the company to be more honest, open and customer centric, it will be quite nice for there phone numbers and full contact details to be shared with all concerned. Perhaps this will make the company understand that there is no need to hide when the company has such a promising future that only lies can destroy.
The customer service needs to be improved. Please share the contact numbers.
