“my experience with anytime fitness is absolutely poor....”

★☆☆☆☆

written by josephaugustine on 21/12/2018

my experience with anytime fitness is absolutely poor. Before joining the club I advised I would only join if the had pacific equipment which I was lead to believe they were getting. A couple months down the line still no equipment also never any real space to use the tools and generally atmosphere was dead. I was not motivated at all no satisfaction for my money. I cancelled and money was no longer being taken then at the end of 2018 they took £119 out of Xmas money I saved in my bank refusing to give it back saying I signed up for 12 months, why would I stay if I am less motivated than when I started due to not having what was promised. This company is terrible no support or communication throughout or real understanding or true reason for taking my money other than contract. I would never recommend anyone to join unless you have money to burn.

“Avoid! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by yiMay1965 on 28/02/2018

Having been a member of several gyms due to moving around the country for work, Anytime Fitness is by far one of the worst gyms I have ever been a member of. The staff, the facilities and the overall shody management is awful. This is not an elite club like Virgin/Nuffield/David Lloyd. However, it is also not as good as the other affordable gym chains out there like 'The Gym' or 'Pure Gym'. If you're on a budget and you want to be treated well and use state of the art facilities, stick to 'The Gym' or 'Pure Gym'. Whatever you do, stay well away from Anytime Fitness... Anywhere. I tried three centres (one as a member and two on a free trial pass). All three clubs were awful.

“Pole-arity Fitness Classes in West Sussex”

★★★★★

written by polearityfitness on 10/08/2017

I was a little bit nervous when I decided to go to one of their monthly free gym events because I didn't know what to expect as I don't have a lot of confidence but I absolutely loved it! Anytime Fitness makes you feel so comfortable and the other gym members are so friendly and supportive too.I can see how my body is changing and that I am improving my fitness rapidly.I love Anytime Fitness and I can recommend this studio to everyone.

“Bit Annoyed by Urmston”

written by mqBishop284 on 11/03/2017

I signed a contract last year dated 24th Jan 2016 and my committment end date was 31st Jan 2017 which means it's not paid in arrears. I had two frozen months Aug/Sept which stretched my membership out to 24th March 2017 as I understand a 12 month contract. Earlier I filled in a cancellation form as fair warning to them as I was considering my membership. They had taken a payment for march on 1st March so I cancelled my DD for April as I didn't want further money taken out of my account and having all the hassle of getting it back if I code not to renew in the end. I tried to get in the gym this morning 11th March and my fob was blocked. So I've been denied access to the gym up to the 24th March to finish off my contract. I would have liked to have had access to this gym up to the 24 the March whilst

“AVOID”

★☆☆☆☆

written by zlReynolds116 on 23/02/2017

Absolutely disgusted by the service at Bradley Stoke in Bristol. Repeatedly lied and are not trustworthy at all. Absolute money grabbers. I'm currently having to resolve a situation where they are sending me threatening emails saying my details are going to be passed on to debt collectors and that it could affect my credit ratings. I have NEVER had any reason for bad credit before and this is causing me a lot of unneeded stress. AVOID!

“DATA PROTECTION BREACH SURELY”

★☆☆☆☆

written by allanlawrence on 01/02/2017

I am more than happy to take this review down, if revised and resolved. I owe some money to Anytime Fitness. A staff member decided to tell my colleagues who attend the gym this stating "He will be referring me to a debt collection" One of my colleagues described this as she was 'cornered' being told this. To add insult, my landlord is also my director in the company. Who was obviously concerned about this as the address I live at could be flagged credit check wise. So I went to see this staff member and I gave him a chance to rectify this. Unfortunately he seemed to lack the knowledge of how serious this was, He completely ignored me twice when I told him what I did not appreciate. He just spoke to me as if I was showing up to pay for what I owed. To show goodwill that this is NOT about the money I owe. I paid half of it off right there and then. Now I am going to attend Citizens Advice tomorrow to see if any Data Protections acts have been broken. discussing my financial relationship with the company with my own colleagues. This is an outrageous breach of privacy. I have currently taken to Twitter but yet to receive any reply. I have given my email address to them. And now I will be looking into Data Access request on all my notes they have on file. I hope this review is recognised and they email me shortly to resolve this. I am fairly looking for my £50 reimbursed from yesterday and the remaining £80 to be wiped. I'm even happy to sign a new contract with the company and accept the apology as a simple mistake as I do understand being in a small town people forget business and talk about things they shouldn't.

“Don't Sign Up”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MacKinnonva411 on 01/01/2017

I was a member of the gym however due to poor management, unhelpful staff and silly changes I decided to go elsewhere. I went back recently with a free pass and I was meant by unhelpful staff member, I was told I couldn't use my free pass and I had to pay £7 to use the gym. As I was meeting a friend I agreed to pay the fee however in the office the member of staff increase the payment to £10. I was left in awakard position as my friend was waiting. IMHO this is the worst gym in Basingstoke!!

“Do not sign up!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by OliviaShaffer322 on 26/11/2016

I'm happy to see I'm not the only one with problems! I signed up to this gym being told I could cancel ANYTIME like pure gym. I asked more than once before signing my contract and was told each time that I could. Went to cancel my membership to be told I can not do this and if I cancel my direct debit it'll go to a debt collection agency. Never known this to be true with a gym?? They give false information to get you to sign up avoid at all costs!

“Was given a one year contract against my will”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Tess.L on 23/11/2016

I went to this gym looking for a 3 month contract as I move around a lot and can't be tied down to a one year contract. I then found out that the member of staff who did my contract put me on a one year one instead of the one I asked for (and I even questioned her on it before I left the office again) now I'm getting emails stating that if I don't pay the monthly fee I'll have to pay the whole years worth (about £420) when I didn't even sign up for that?! Absolutely disgusting. Avoid this gym at all costs

“Unhelpful staff”

Vending machine doesn't work it simply takes your money then staff offer you no help or a refund. There isn't enough weights to lift when it's busy, music is annoying.

“Avoid at all costs”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Rowant387 on 19/10/2016

I have found many reviews with similar experiences to mine. These guys will provide false information and try to rush you to entice you into a contract. They will say that there is one months notice for cancellation and they will not tell you any further details. Make sure you read all the details, the staff, head office and the small print in the contract all make it very difficult to get out of.

“A better experience than these reviews suggest, (Cribbs)”

★★★★☆

written by jharrisuk on 27/09/2016

I've only been a member for a short while, but have had a much better experience than most people have described below. This could be due to me mostly attending at times when the gym isn't that busy, but I've not see any issues with the PTs or any hassle from the Anytime Fitness parent company. The individual bathrooms could do with a refresh, I've not seen them dirty yet, they're just tiered, as is the case in lots of gyms as they are used so frequently and it's a significant impact to the members if you take any out of action to have them refitted; especially when you're a 24 hour business. There's to be a good range of equipment so people don't appear to be waiting long, if at all. The resistance kit appears more popular than cardio, but again that could just be at the times I'm attending. I recently noticed a sign up that any Tuesday you can take along a friend for free, I'm not sure what all other gyms do now for free passes, but the 5/6 that I've been a member of in the past were more limiting than this on bring guests. In short - worth a try.

“He applies too much pressure”

★★★★☆

written by Anne197 on 11/08/2016

I went to have a look around and use the free 3 day trial, it was nice to be able to try the gym and decide whether I want to join but it would've been nicer if he hadn't of applied so much pressure on me to join!4 stars as it's a very nice gym with good equipment. I think the cost is a bit too much though.

“Un-managed Freelance Personal Trainers ”

★★★☆☆

written by ColtDunlap90 on 02/07/2016

I train between Bradley Stoke and Cribbs Causeway at Bristol. Bradley Stoke is smaller and better managed, however Cribbs Causeway has improved recently. I have always had an issue with the personal trainers at Cribbs thinking it is their own personal gym. This week was the case in point, went straight from work (Thursday), PT was training a personal group of his own taking over most of the upstairs studio - no problem, but the loud shouting was an issue, I don't need the hassle after work when you just want to train quietly. Went on Sat morning with my wife (she normally trains at Bradley Stoke). Same trainer personal group of 5 or 6 lots of loud shouting equipment tied up. My wife said she would not use that gym again, too stressful and would cancel if it was her only choice. I'm unimpressed, that there are no systems in place to manage these people, I got the impression that it was about maximising personal profit above other members experience.

“Worst customer service experience - EVER!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by PierceChristian316 on 18/04/2016

1. Turned up at a gym in network for opening day- fob would not work neither owner or manager handled well and I didn't even see the new gym! 2. Turned up second day - same issue - owner shrugged at my issue - still didn't see gym- maybe it wasn't finished who knows! 3. Contacted head office and others and found out gym door faulty 4. A month on contacted head office - "who said gym door faulty- not us" was the response. Like dealing with a prosecuting barrister not a company that values their customers. Result: I'll extend membership at another gym whose lack lustre service looks the best in the world compared to the aggression, rudeness of Anytime Fitness !

“constant harassment ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Montgomery495 on 21/09/2015

Went in and enquired about prices in July, they told me I had to fill out all my personal details for a health and safety form because I had been let into the building. Well that was a big mistake! Was constantly bombarded with phone calls, text messages and emails. Even when I walked past the gym on my lunch break at work, there is one of the members of staff nagging literally everyone that walks past. It is now September and they have finally have stopped contacting me, even though I had asked them previously to stop contacting me in August. I have a work friend who is a member at this gym, he said that it can get extremely busy in the evenings, especially having to wait for the changing rooms.

“Just say NO!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KenyonSchofield267 on 15/09/2015

Horrible! The way I was treated when they made a mistake is awful! First, the owner called me and my son, liars! My son cancelled his account in May and they continued to charge him until September. Anytime Fitness does not have paperwork to cancel their contracts. You have to trust that the kid in the office is going to cancel it. What if that kid doesn't cancel the contract? You are called a liar and irresponsible. What about your employee? Why didn't he do what he was suppose to do? Why do you point the finger at your customers and call them names? The owner was not nice at all! Rip-off!!! This is the club next to University of Indianapolis!!! I was also told that the owner owns 3 other gyms. RUN!! Don't let your student join this gym!!
