“Another Centauro Scam”

I made the mistake of clicking through the booking offered by Ryanair which ended up being with Centauro from Faro Airport. Of course I should have known better.... EUR 650 charge for "damage". which was evidently there when the car was collected. It was to the lower trim panel under the passenger side door. I had not spotted it when we collected the car (AT 11pm) but it had previously been GLUED back on. Obviously this is just to catch the unwary. I had third party insurance but it is disgraceful behaviour by Centauro. For anyone else the car was a lovely looking Alfa Romeo Guilietta in Grey. Needless to say I'd avoid them like the proverbial plague, but anyone reading their reviews probably knows that already.

“I payed for my rental car in full over the Internet...”

I payed for my rental car in full over the Internet before my holiday. When I arrived in portugal at the centauro office they gave me 2 choices; another £560 for insurance for 2 weeks or a £1200 deposit or I couldn't take the car I had already paid for. I did not trust them to return the £1200 so I paid a further £560,I had to as I was in a foreign country with no transport and they had me by the short and curlies and knew it. 2 months after I got home they took another £40 out my account with just an email saying they were doing so the same morning, I was disgusted they had free access to my bank account and had to cancel my cards as I do not trust them at all. I will NEVER use centauro rent a car again

“Centauro has charged me EUR 1200 for scratches on the...”

Centauro has charged me EUR 1200 for scratches on the car - far far too much. I accept that I made the scratches on the left side of the car: the built-in SATNAV did not work properly (not updated) and instructed me to turn into a very narrow street in Sorrento, not suitable for cars. (No traffic sign to warn me). I got stuck and made 4 small scratches on the left side. Upon returning the car on the 25th July 2020 verbally I was told: "minor scratches" and seen on tablet that I was only charged less than 200 for scratch - so I signed the tablet. As soon as I did, I was told, my all deposit is gone, EUR 1200. They refused to print my signed version of damage calculation. I was only given an invoice of the EUR 1200. Weeks later, after many complaints finally they sent me a list with their damage calculation - but it does not add up, still discrepencies between their list and their final charge of EUr 1200.

That sounds about right for Centauro, they charged me 500 euros extra when I picked the car up for "insurance" which should be in the payment price initially. 2 months later when I was home they took another 40 euros for something or other, I couldn't believe they went into my bank account after my holiday, I do not trust them and will never use them again

Could not recommend lowly enough. During the COVID crisis, they did not follow the contract at all. The tried to charge me for days where the car couldn't be legally driven, over the period of Mar 12-20 2020, then they said driving from Perugia to Rome was legal, and it wasn't, according to the police. They finally agreed to recover the car, at their cost, but then subsequently dug up stale credit card data, from a previous transaction, and used it to make a unauthorized transaction. I had to cancel my card. So much for the promise of "no additional charges, final price guaranteed" or the promise "no deposit, no excess option" or the SMART cover promise of "forget about any excess as any damages will be covered, except in cases of misconduct or gross negligence". Also, oddly, you can never get employee's names or talk to a manager. It's almost as though they know what they're doing and they're attempting to cover their tracks.

“Centauro Warning”

Centauro Warning After 10 years of using Centauro cars at Malaga airport, 2 or 3 times a year, I am looking for an alternative supplier. In October 2019 we were left waiting more than half an hour to be collected from the airport by minibus. When we got to the office to collect the car it was a rugby scrum with customers everywhere and a further wait of 45mins to get to the front of the queue. When I asked what the problem was I was told that they were under new ownership. We have just returned from another visit during January 2020. Upon collecting our car we were told that it had no damage, however upon inspection we saw three areas of minor damage and a scuff on one of the wheels. I went back into the office and eventually got a staff member to come out to the car. She wrote the three areas of body work damage onto my contract but not the wheel scuff. I questioned this and was told very clearly that it was only necessary to record bodywork damage. When returning the car a member of their inspection team went straight to the scuff and photographed it. I was told that the charge for this damage was 300 euros and despite a heated discussion my deposit was deducted by 300 euros. Since then and despite a series emails to Centauro they have completely failed to address what was quoted by their staff member at the point of collection, even though I was able to provide her name. So my conclusion is that I was deliberately set up and my naivety at taking her word has cost me 300 euros. Having read other customers who have recently experienced similar fate at Centauro I have come to realise that they should be avoided at all costs. Please let my experience be a warning – use someone else

Following our bad experience with Centauro car hire Malaga, we have today returned from Malaga during which time we hired a car from Helle Hollis Malaga airport. We found this to be a pleasant experience and an excellent company to deal with. We would recommend all Centauro’s clients to try this company.

Do customers really want the added stress of all these, Car Hire problems.
I am seriously considering the bus from Malaga to Nerja.
This is yet another car hire company that I have crossed of my list this morning.
I am renting three cars in total for the beginning of May. Who can you actually trust?
The only good thing in this situation, is that I can speak and understand Spanish!

“centauro car hire malaga rip off ”

Just returned from Malaga hired a car from centauro be warned of them.  car hire voucher stated free second driver this was refused at the counter , wanted to charge £50 extra . Hard sell of top up insurance although I had my own annual insurance , was told that I would have to arrange my own recovery in the event that the car broke down!!!!!!!.inspected the car and noted scratches on the rear bumper , when I showed them to the lady that took the booking I was assured that these were in the permitted 5cm limits.on returning the car these marks were immediately picked up on together with a tiny pinhole scratch on the windscreen and told that a charge of £325 would be made .This is obviously a well rehearsed thing. They then threatened to not return your £1200 euro excess unless you sign to accept the damage. this amounts to extortion in my book. its about time that the spanish government sort out these unscrupulous companies once and for all. BE VERY CAREFUL if you decide to deal with this company

What utter rubbish . So you have totally ignored the points I have made of the free second driver on the contract, that the scratches on the rear valance were pointed out to your employee and dismissed by her as insignificant before the car was taken out.I now know exactly how your company operates , if you would like to send me a copy of the invoice for the replacement windscreen and repair to rear valance l will happily remove this negative review, thought not????

“Bad service. Never rent with Centauro.”

They have extremely bad Terms & Policies which they will not warn you about on the front desk. Things you'd not even think you should be aware of. One this is that you cant extend your car online. For that you have to go to their office to give a signature - but they have very few offices - so they asked me to drive 4h just to be able to extend my stay for one day. of courso I didn't do it and had to pay penalty. In normal car rental everything works online. Very unfriendly service on the phone. And they should have made me aware of their strict policies. Never rent with them!

“I have just hired a car from Centauro at Valencia...”

I have just hired a car from Centauro at Valencia airport. I have done this for many years and even though they are in a difficult to find off airport site I have always found their airport transfer service to be good and their service fair and friendly but I have noticed a change in the last two transactions I had with them and the last one will be my last. It began with them changing the pick up point at the airport, it was just outside the departures entrance but now you have to walk some distance into a very quiet area of the airport and wait in a poorly lit and empty car park. I called twice for the transfer bus which eventually came and by now it was quite late at night. I picked up the car, went around it looking for unregistered marks but couldn't find anything. 10 days later I returned the car which had sat outside my house in Spain most of the time and the person in the office came out and said "Any problems?" and I said no as all had been well but he then made a B line for the front of the car and started photographing under the front skirt, under it! He said that there were stone chips and that they would retain some of my deposit and that I must sign to agree this. I refused. The hire place is a large dark shed and at night nobody would lie on the floor to inspect the underside of the front skirt for scratches. I was still wearing my work suit and wasn't about to lie on their floor. I was really annoyed that Centauro had become one of those car hire companies that I'm always reading about but sadly they have. I came home and googled Trustpilot, Tripadvisor and Google reviews and sure enough I am not alone, many others have fallen for this. Centauro are way off airport and i would have thought that their customer service would have to compensate for this but clearly not! Currently looking for a new car hire company as I go to tis part of Spain at least 6 times a year.

Please note our staff check all vehicles before and after every single rental, and as specified in the rental agreement "Before driving away, it is the clients responsibility to advise Centauro of any damage or missing elements not already marked on the contract (and bigger than the circle, except damages to windows or wheels)." The undercarriage must be checked also.

My complaint seems to be supported by other people hiring cars from Centauro. The scratch was a long way under the front grill valance and only visible if you lay on the floor of your garage and look under the car. This is an area of a car exposed to road stones and no driver can do anything about this sort of damage. I think it's unacceptable that you expect drivers to lie down and inspect under a vehicle and that you should provide a mirror on a stick to allow drivers to check these areas of the car, also a bright light as the garage in Valancia is very dark.

“Car damage ”

I have used Centauro for 8 years with no complaints but I returned my Car last week and they charged my credit card for 165 euros for 4 stone chips, totally unacceptable and against there own policy which states any damage that fits into the circle is ok, the tiny stone chips easily fit into the circle so why the charge? Spoke to my credit card company and he said they have been inundated with complaints regarding Centauro Of late, so beware these new Bandits

“Stay away!”

Centauro Malaga – stay away! Something has happened with this car hire company during 2019. We have hired cars at Centauro for many years and always been satisfied, both with the cars and the service. Lately, however, the service has degraded drastically, and more seriously: We have experienced regular issue. There are now always lines to get the car and to deliver it. The latter is particularly annoying if you have a plane to reach. Twise during recent months we have been charged for «damaged locks». In both cases the staff went directly to the lock in question, obviously quite aware of what was going on. Two weeks ago, on the 24th of September, we also experienced that the fuel was not refunded (65 euros) and still is not. They had charged us 235 euros for the lock, which we paid on the spot, and when we contacted them for the refunding for the fuel, they said that this was held back because of the damage to the lock, which we had already paid. The price for the lock had now risen to 300 euros - surprisingly, the difference was exactly the amount of the non refunded fuel. You should also be aware of all the bad reviews, which are hidden away on Centauros own websites. Only the positive ones are immediately visible. You have to click on the box marked «most relevant» to find them. And there are hundreds of them! Stay away!

Unfortunately, all customers are charged new damages regarding of how many rentals they have had.
When a customer hires a car and does not take out the Centauro Smart Cover, the customer has to assume the responsibility for any new damage to the car this is why deposits are taken.

“Response to my first review was very poor”

I posted an earlier review at the beginning of September 2019 and the response I received was far from adequate. I believe they do not use reviews as a means to improve their service rather they go through the motions to pretend they care. Like many other reviews their waiting times at Faro airport Portugal were very long, both at the airport waiting for the shuttle bus and also at the main depot approx. 15 minutes drive away. We were a family of 12 including 5 young children and had hired 3 cars. We paid the full price including full insurance and with that we were meant to get a priority checking in process. This did not exist and we had to join the long queue with everyone else. The overall time from waiting for the shuttle bus to getting the keys to our cars was about 2 hours. This timescale raised serious concerns for me for when we return the car at the end of the holiday. The office / shuttle bus does not open until 0700hrs whereas most of the other car hire companies start operating at 0600hrs. We had an early flight on the morning and if the process of checking the cars in and then waiting for the shuttle bus to take us to the airport was as long as the start of the holiday then there was a serious risk of missing our flights. I believed this was a real possibility and had no confidence in the organisation at the Centauro depot. I noted that other customers had given negative reviews concerning delays when returning their cars. I therefore decided to book a hotel close to the airport (5 rooms) costing 690 euros. if Centauro started operating at 0600hrs like the other hire car companies then I would have had much more confidence that I could get to the airport in reasonable time. Why they open so late especially when they are roughly 15 minutes drive away is beyond me and I would advise anyone that has early flights not to book with them. Their response from the number of issues made did not address any of the issues I raised therefore they have no intention of improving their service levels at Faro airport. Use them at your peril.

We appreciate our customers reviews and all comments help us to improve our services.
Please note all the Centauro offices open from 07:00hrs to 23:00hrs, and the timetables do not change in the different countries. This information is clearly showed to the customers during the booking process and also in the booking voucher.
We are aware we have had queues longer than usual in our Faro installations ans we sincerely apologize. We informed our management who took appropriate action, and we are still working on improve our services.

“deposit not refunded”

I am waiting more than a month for the deposit and they don't even reply to my contacts. When I left the car at the store in Faro -Portugal, they said that in 3 days the deposit would be in my account but after more than a month nothing happens.

“Courteous and professional”

We hired a car at Alicante airport and were treated with a really professional team who showed great courtesy and diligence in supplying our car. The standard of vehicle was excellent. It was an alternative vehicle from the one pre booked but it was as good if not better in presentation and performance. The staff were bright, friendly and helpful throughout the whole procedure and I was really impressed by the team leader who was training two colleagues and still turned in an impressive performance. I will not hesitate to book here in future.

“Chania Crete Greek - not bad in summary”

Pick up nearby airport, transport with shuttle bus (van). Waiting about 20mins for pick up and drop off. Ordered by Ryanair (Cartrawler), good price, but instead Fiat Punto was only Fiat Panda. It is not simillar... Upgrade to new Citroen C3 diesel was only 30E for 11 days, very good option. Additional insurance 21E/day!, we rejected it. That´s why they blocked 750E on a credit card, it was cancelled about 10 days after return. Refundable deposit on fuel 72E, returned 3 days after return. Count your time in advance, every processes are not so quickly:-)

“Just back from Alicante where agent tried to pressure...”

Just back from Alicante where agent tried to pressure us into an extra €210 insurance for 10 days ( I don’t pay much more for a year here!) just checked bank and the have taken an extra €161 with no email to explain why. They charged me at the outset €67 for at full tank of petrol of which we used 2/3 of, drove from airport to villa about an hour away, went to car on day 2 and the battery was dead which cost a long walk into the town and a cab ride back and all the hustle of getting them out to jump start it on day 3. Lights on the car are automatically on/off so wasn’t something we had done and it only had 7100 km on the clock, so nearly new!!!! Utterly bad service AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!

“Worst experience ever :(”

I was rented a car in Lisbon. Returning from the Algarve to Lisbon, I left 6 hours before the scheduled flight. There was a shot of the tire. I could not replace it myself because I noticed that my car is without a spare wheel and a repair kit. The Centauro emergency phone did not answer. From the moment they were picked up I expected a total of 4 hours, with my family in the heat and without water on the side of the highway. When the taxi arrived Centauro decided to go to Faro, instead of to Lisbon despite I informed that I have a flight from Lisbon. I had to pay a taxi to Lisbon (300 Euro) myself. Finally, we were too late for the plane and I had to buy new tickets (1100 Euro). In addition, Centauro charged me with borrowing costs by 3 days longer than my contract, although the car was already with them and they did not return the deposit for fuel, even though they took the car with a full tank, as the contract provided. And so my family experienced very bad moments during the holidays, and I incurred a huge cost. If I knew that Centauro's help looked like that, I would have ordered help and a taxi straight away. Renting a car without a spare wheel can ruin your holiday! I filed a complaint with Centauro and I am waiting for its happy consideration. Then I can increase the rating.

“Very fine Pre-scratch car pretending money from insurance”

Me and one friend of mine got robbed by Centauro Crete. We got two cars, inspected at pick-up, didn’t saw very fine scratch, IN THE SAME position, on the right side of the car under the door, on the frame. I repeat, in the same position on both cars. They pointed immediately at the return inspection They pretended 450€ euros for the scratch even it was smaller than the limit for claim. We also wait for them a lot in the airport although we phone them that we arrived. Avoid them.

“They play with fuel! BE CAREFUL”

On the pickup day on the document was chowing 70% of fuel, but on the car was 45%, I did ask to review and change. The guy said that was everything ok. On the delivery day, a problem happened with fuel deposit that supposes to be refunded to my account and we went back to the office. The guy said that everything was fine and my ALL money was delivered to my account. BUT NOT I sent an email to report the issue. And M.E. from the Centauros office replied: "Please note the amount charged for fuel was successfully refunded to your card when the car was returned, we have attached the receipt of the transaction." This receipt was from the pickup day! And they are not replying emails anymore about my issue. I believe that they do this very often as aN extra! BE CAREFUL

I'm due to return the Centauro car we hired from Alicante in two days. I've noticed the car hire agreement says 100% fuel out 0% fuel in. If I return the car with a full tank, will I get a full refund for the fuel less €25 fuel logistics charge? It cost €110 euros at the point I took out the car. Will I get back €85 euros? I have about half a tank left which we won't use, so looking for some good advice.

Centauro are a good firm. I have used them many times in Spain. However all car rental firms require you to pay for a full tank and if you return the car with any amount of fuel left, you will not be reimbursed. Try taking the car back and run it as far as you dare ( reserve will take most cars 60-80km) back to the airport. Hope that helps.

Its over 2 years since I used Centauro however from memory they appeared quite direct that after paying for a full tank of fuel on receipt of the car I was to return it empty as there would be no mechanism for any refund. My final journey in the car back to Malaga airport was therefore done on the tank red line running on fumes!

I'm afraid you won't get anything back, not if our experience is anything to go on. They charge you for a full tank and if you don't use it all, that's hard luck. That's one of several reasons we wouldn't use Centauro again.

Just make sure you use the fuel and return it with as little as possible. Centuaro are very cheap so you will not loose much money if you compare what you would have paid in full for a more well known company. They refunded me for the fuel I didn't use the same day I returned the car - I've just checked my credit card statement. It may take a little longer in peak season?

You might do but it will probably take some persuasion as it should have been agreed with them first. I would call them first and check before you fill the tank out of your own pocket which they will charge out to the next customer..

Good morning, Soory for the delay in replying. Yes, you can travel to France. You just need to take our cross border insurance which is 9€ a day to a maximum charge of 90€. Kind regards, Centauro rent a car
