“Arrived at Barcelona for Centauro and instructions...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 10/01/2011

Arrived at Barcelona for Centauro and instructions were not clear and after walking the whole length of the airport looking for office then read v small print which just stated 'shuttle bus', nothing more. Asked at Info office, they had never heard of it and just said there are some bus stops outside. Walked up and down, no bus. Rang office, eventually bus arrived, huge queue in the office, same staff checking the cars in/out so took ages. Car was not valeted and was dirty inside and out and ran like a pig. Staff could speak some English and did allow full-full petrol. Had to allow an exra hour in case of return problems but all went smoothly as it was v early and nobody was waiting. Refuse the extra expensive insurance offered and get an insurance4carhire policy instead much cheaper and lasts a whole year for as many trips as you like. I suppose you get what you pay for and it was cheaper but customer service rubbish and office miles away which is not made clear on the voucher - OK if you are not bothered about the car you get.

“I read the various reviews for car rental from local...”

★★★★☆

written by on 31/12/2010

I read the various reviews for car rental from local companies in Alicante with trepidation, but I had no problems at all. As mentioned by many reviews, having to pay for fuel up front and trying to return the car empty is a bit of a scam, but then the base rates for these local companies are very cheap so unless you are daft and return the car full of petrol you'll still be getting a good deal, and still much cheaper than renting with the big international companies. When I picked the car up, I did not have to wait long at the office in the arrivals hall, the staff were polite and efficient, and the car was fine and seemed quite new. I got a higher standard of car than I'd paid for. There were a lot of scratches on it which were not marked on the rental agreement but nobody seemed to think this was important and I had no hassles when the car was returned.

“I recieved an email the day before we departed for...”

written by on 01/10/2010

I recieved an email the day before we departed for mallorca with new meeting instructions for picking up the car, which we followed to the letter and ended in the second floor of a car park where no one arrived so we went back into the terminal buliding and asked someone where we could find Centauro and they say this happens all the time and pointed us to a different part of the airport where there was a ,centauro bus but no driver, we waited another 30 mins and no one appeared so we phoned the contact number we were given but no one answered, after another 10 mins the rep finally arrived in a bad mood, i pointed out the joining instructions we were given and he pushed them out of the way and accused us of going to the wrong place he did not even look at the letter. he took us back to their base where we filled out the forms, this is one of the most unpolite persons I have met Mr Grump does not have look in with this guy, we got out Merc Vito and I pointed out the dents etc in it and he said it does not matter, so ok fair enough, before we set off I looked for the fuel filler cap and could not see it so i asked him where it was and he said ask a filling station !! the car worked ok until the last day where the elec window broke and we had to jam it up with paper, on return we were met by a different rep but a Mr Grupy mark 2. I will not be using centauro again.

“We booked this car throw holiday autos as you have...”

★★★★★

written by on 30/09/2010

We booked this car throw holiday autos as you have the option to book a car were you can bring the car back with a full tank of petrol, which means you dont get ripped off if you dont use all the fuel.

We also paid 4 euros a day to Centura for full insurance which covers you for everything, so you dont have to claim back any excess what so ever, well worth it.

Will definetly use again.

“Arriving at Alicante Airport we headed to Centauro...”

★★★★★

written by on 17/09/2010

Arriving at Alicante Airport we headed to Centauro office, which was at arrivals hall. Precedure itself took only 3 minutes and we got keys and a map leading to the car (not far - 3min. walk).

We got Economic Wv Polo (the car was almost new, produced in 2009 and only 7000km done) for like 233euros/12 days which is very cheap comparing to other companies there. I gave car back at 4a.m. (no charge) putting the keys into the hole.
I took additional SCDW (50e, insurance for windshield, wheels, undercarriege), but had no accidencts
In other words, happy and cheap experience with centauro. I would definately recommend this company.

★★★★☆

written by on 01/09/2010

after reading all car hire reviews and being worried about getting ripped off i booked with do you spain all inclusive ins etc no problems with them at all.
its a five minute bus ride to the office
nice aircon office and no waiting in a busy line to collect car, all staff speak good english so everything was explained and understood.
had to leave a credit card deposit for damage caused to glass and underbody
but refunded at end of hire.
hired a focus estate for a month, car was clean and tidy but had a few scratches and scrapes. returning car was simple just gave them the key and jumped on mini bus to airport,no fannying about.
if you can cope with mini bus ride its saved me about £80. [rather than collecting car from airport terminal]
i tend to take people and companies as i find them and this lot are pretty good. not the best but if you want to pay top dollar use avis or europecar etc
all in all 8 out of ten

“I read the first two reviews on this firm and couldn't...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 16/08/2010

I read the first two reviews on this firm and couldn't agree more. This company are a bunch of scammers. Rude check-in girl said everything was 'my terms' when I questioned paying 90 EUR for a tank of fuel which cost me 20 EUR to half fill. My terms to rip myself off!? I don't think so. Baby seats were charged as extra and were dirty and barely functional.

I have to give them 1 star to be able to submit this, as I don't believe that fraudsters should be able to trade as they do.

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 10/08/2010

Booked car via Economy car rentals who told me price included totally comprehensive insurance. On arrival had to cough up 6o euros for full CDW. On returning car was told interior was sandy (majorca.. holiday!!) and got charged 30 euros for a 2 minute vacuum job. Need courtesy bus to catch flight so had to cough up. And 60 euros to fill a Peugeot 207 tank. Rip-off merchants, don't touch with a barge pole.

No choice of fuel charge options given at time of pick-up(return empty), Centauro Car was booked through Amigo Autos with zero xs option, but I was informed that the underside, tyres and windscreen were not covered. Also we had to leave a 300Eu deposit not in form of a CC authorisation but was immediately deducted from my CC, am struggling to get it refunded.

These extortionists charge a £25 for picking up after 11pm, I will avoid like the plaque and pay extra for more established companies!

I was planning my trip to Spain and spent long time searching for the car hire company. I chose Centauro and was still a bit unsure about my choice beacause of all the reviews read etc. When I went to pick up the car, the staff was nice and professional. The condition of the car was perfect, everything was great! I will definitely use them again! Good value, excellent service. Thanks, Cetnrauro!

Hired a Ford Fiesta in April 10 from Centauro. We were picked up by the shuttle bus at Palma Airport and taken to their office 10 mins away. The staff were polite and professional, the car was in good condition with 40K KM driven. We bought the super CDW insurance with no excess so we nedn't bother with registrering every dent, scratch an soforth. We hired through Travel Jigzaw (e-biludlejning.dk) who gave us a discounted extra insurance. There was no problem when we returned it and we got a quick shuttle back to the airport. We would use this company again

Hired a Ford Focus in Sept 09 from Centauro. We were picked up at Malaga Airport in a minibus and taken to their office 5 mins away. The staff were polite and friendly, the car was in very good condition and almost new. Best of all it was a diesel and very economical indeed. We had hired it through Bravo Car Hire who gave us a discounted extra insurance as we hired for three weeks. As we had a slight bump we were glad we took this out and there was no problem when we returned it. Would use this company again

No choice of fuel charge options given at time of pick-up(return empty), Centauro Car was booked through Holiday Autos with zero xs option, but I was coaxed into accepting a further 21Eu ins charge at pick-up for "not covered" underside, tyres and windscreen. I declined. Also had to leave a 300Eu deposit in form of a CC authorisation, which was immediately deducted from my CC, am struggling to get it refunded. The car was dirty out and in at pick-up. Existing damage was only pointed out on the contract form when I returned to the kiosk to enquire before driving off. Staff at the kiosk were apparently too busy with other tasks? to attend to customers. Their shuttle service from terminal to carpark is efficient. No signposting in the terminal to indicate the pick up point.
At drop-off the car wasnt inspected, no forms signed.

“ I was appaled by Centauro's practices even by hire...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 14/09/2009

I was appaled by Centauro's practices even by hire car company standards; I would be embarrassed to be a representative of this company. From the off - the website I booked through said the price I was paying included a £0 XS - I arrived at the office to find I had to pay an additional 21 euros because the alledged £0 XS didn't include windscreen and tyres....not much of a £0XS then really. Secondly I was then informed that I would be charged over 60 euros for the full tank of fuel I was provided with and I should return the vehicle empty, there would be no refund for unused fuel....is it just me or does this not constitute THEFT???? I have been charged for something that I have not benefited from the use of, and I was given no option or choice in the matter. Majorca is such a small island I defy almost anyone to use a whole tank of fuel in a one week holiday - the odds were stacked against us further as the vehicle was diesel and annoyingly fuel efficient; even a drive over the hills on the road to Soller which has 57 hairpin bends did little to budge the fuel gage. After the contracts were signed and my fuel money stolen from me, I was passed a set of keys and told "Bye" - no one to show me to the car so we trapsed out suitcases round the car park in the midday heat til we found it, no one to show us around the car, any features etc, the car was riddled with damage and whilst I had a £0 XS it would have been nice for someone to explain where this damage was documented on the contract and the only explanation I could see was in Spanish. The car was cleanish but had not been fully valeted. On return of the vehicles however, someone did check the car in...fortunatly there were no issues but I would have been very unhappy if having not checked round the car to start with I was then told there was an issue. On the plus side, the shuttle bus service to the airport was very efficient.

written by on 09/08/2009

Centauro is a complete rip off - they charged us extra when we were late for pick up because our flight was late. Then they gave a faulty car - it was leaking oil, which means we had to drive back 100km to exchange cars. They made us fuel it again. When we came back we found they charged us £300 extra because the car was leaking fuel! Absolute rip off! Throughout the experience we were treated like cattle, they've no idea what good service means. Under no circumstances use this company!

I'm due to return the Centauro car we hired from Alicante in two days. I've noticed the car hire agreement says 100% fuel out 0% fuel in. If I return the car with a full tank, will I get a full refund for the fuel less €25 fuel logistics charge? It cost €110 euros at the point I took out the car. Will I get back €85 euros? I have about half a tank left which we won't use, so looking for some good advice.

Centauro are a good firm. I have used them many times in Spain. However all car rental firms require you to pay for a full tank and if you return the car with any amount of fuel left, you will not be reimbursed. Try taking the car back and run it as far as you dare ( reserve will take most cars 60-80km) back to the airport. Hope that helps.

Its over 2 years since I used Centauro however from memory they appeared quite direct that after paying for a full tank of fuel on receipt of the car I was to return it empty as there would be no mechanism for any refund. My final journey in the car back to Malaga airport was therefore done on the tank red line running on fumes!
Report this content marje Written on: 24/08/2015
I'm afraid you won't get anything back, not if our experience is anything to go on. They charge you for a full tank and if you don't use it all, that's hard luck. That's one of several reasons we wouldn't use Centauro again.
Report this content craggan67 Written on: 25/08/2015
Just make sure you use the fuel and return it with as little as possible. Centuaro are very cheap so you will not loose much money if you compare what you would have paid in full for a more well known company. They refunded me for the fuel I didn't use the same day I returned the car - I've just checked my credit card statement. It may take a little longer in peak season?
Report this content mikemikes Written on: 20/10/2015
You might do but it will probably take some persuasion as it should have been agreed with them first. I would call them first and check before you fill the tank out of your own pocket which they will charge out to the next customer..
