Customer representatives are not giving the correct information. I signed up and was told that I will be paying 29.99 a month for 145 channels. After it was installed they were asking me to pay 49.99. I was told that I was given the wrong information. Also I was told that I have 30 days to try the service. Exactly 1 week I cancelled and was asked to pay $202 for early cancellation fee. Please don't ever sign up for their service.

“BEWARE!!! ”

BEWARE!!!

Direct TV sent a representative into my home that put my family at risk. This company then charged me an early termination fee when I told them that was unacceptable business behavior (they refuse to take responsibility for their contract technicians)

The customer service representatives, supervisors and manager all explicitly misled to me about dispute processes.

Written disputes go unanswered.

BEWARE!!!

BE CAREFUL. THEY DON'T SEEM TO BE AN HONEST COMPANY. Direct TV called my home shortly after I had signed up for their service. They offered me the movie channels and NFL ticket for a promotional period of four months. They told me that it wouldn't cost me any more money than I was paying at that time and after four months it would just turn off. When I finally received a bill from Direct TV for four months of service. I was charged an additional 20-40 dollars a month for this "promotion" When I called the company they basically told me that I had received the service so I had to pay for it. I will never use this company again. BE CAREFUL.

Don't ever sign up for Direct TV Service. If you have a problem with your service or your bill (which happens frequently) then you have to call their customer service line. The hold time to speak with an actual person ranges from 15-30 minutes. When you are finally able to speak with an actual person, they will be unable to help you. Then you will be put on hold for another 15-30 minutes while you are connected to another person who has no idea who you are or what your problem is. This process will actually happen several times and your problem will never actually get fixed. I am still waiting for a rebate which was promised to me in October (it is now March). I honestly feel that this company doesn't care for it's customers at all.

Be careful in giving your SSN. Make sure to get a good installation time and confirm that they will show up. They is also an option of giving only last 4 digit of your SSN with rest of other details. Do your homework between dish and direct tv. Good luck.

I tried to talk to someone about my bill that was incorrect. Basically they told me that I could write to them (ha ha) but that was the only way I could talk to someone. I ended up paying a bill that was wrong and no one would help me. I hope that this review helps others because Direct TV is a bad. They don't care about your service, just your money! I don't recommend this to anyone. Go with Dish Network they are great and cheap!

I had Direct TV installed on Saturday. I was on the phone w/customer service from the time the guy left at 3:00 until 9:30 at night. Discovered I couldn't record on my vcr like I used to and had to get DVR which took several calls to customer service to figure this out (which is now an additional $5.99 a month). Got cut off from CS many times. They then wanted to charge me the $99 for the DVR when I had been offered it for free originally and then wanted to extend my contract from 15 mos. to 24 which at this point I didn't want to do. Finally after several calls got someone who actually helped me and gave me the DVR for free on my 15 mo. contract. But, the most aggravating part was when Monday morning the remote was not working properly. Called customer service (CS) again and after testing the remote found that I needed a new one. They wanted to charge me $16 for a new remote when I hadn't even had this one for 48 hours and had barely used it because I had been on the phone with them all day Saturday. I flipped and told them that it must be ok for their company to give substandard equipment to their customers. Finally they agreed to send it to me for free, but it will be 3-5 days before I get the remote so I can't use the system properly. I am so discouraged and hope I do not have any future problems.

written by wallnan on 15/12/2006

We have had DirectTV for a number of years and we started out very happy with it. Overtime our satisfaction decreased, especially when they dropped TIVO DVR service and changed to their own much lower quality DVR. Finally this year we decided drop the DirectTV service and go with FIOS. About a week after we closed out the account we received a box in the mail with no explanation. I called to find out about it and was informed that the box we purchased from Best Buy was considered a lease and we were expected to return it. At no time were we informed that this was a lease. DirectTV states they changed their policy in earlier 2006 and there is no small print on the bill that states this -- of course I have online billing with automatic payments so I'm not sure how they expected me to see this. I wrote letters to this affect but received no return calls despite assurances that they would call within 2-3 days of receiving the letter. I called again after 2 weeks to find that they had made their determination without informing me that the charges of $237.00 stands for the cost of the box that we no longer have. I am going to pay this bill so I do not have a problem with my credit rating but I will never have DirectTV again and I want to inform as many people as I can about their poor customer unfriendly practices.

I talked to 3 sales people prior to ordering the Direct TV Service and none of them mentioned they would charge for an additional receiver. In fact one person told me that there was no fee for up to 4 receivers. They told me every condo association had its own rules and regulations after they installed the dish, which apparently was not installed properly. They would charge $99 for re-installation. Horrendous customer service. I cancelled it even having to pay $150 cancellation fee, I do not want to deal with such Horrendous customer service.

Direct TV seems okay until you have a question about your account or equipment, or a concern with your billing. Having worked customer service jobs in the past, I have some sensitivity to what those reps deal with. However, the customer service reps are a joke at best. They pass you around from one department to another, each department telling you a story that conflicts with the last. One can only laugh at the feeling of helplessness when attempting to resolve a billing issue with Direct TV and their condescending employees. If they don't feel like working with you, big deal, you're just one customer. Who needs you anyway, right?

I tried to get direct TV but after 3 scheduled installations with no shows, and 1 scheduled installation with someone showing up without proper training and lack of equipment, I cancelled. Direct TV did not seem to care.

Don't let their be a snowstorm or a rainy day, as the Direct TV Service Satellite will not pick up a signal for days, which means you will not have service for days. After 3-4 days, I will be serviced by Time Warner Cable.

I ordered and then cancelled when I received a confirming email that made me realize I would pay more than I currently am with cable... they charge $5 for each receiver each month. No mention of that by either the sales person on the phone, or the offer on their website.

“I have made payments throughout the last several...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by tiniree. on 28/03/2003

I have made payments throughout the last several months that included MORE than the basic package price (plus x-tra receiver). End of Feb I received a statement that included 3mo worth of pay-per-view charges. When I called customer service I was told to look at my old statements (who keeps those?). I requested past copies so I could verify movies I had already paid for. Told it would take 2-4 weeks to receive. I was then told my bill was due in two weeks and I should go ahead and pay it, then try (?) and resolve the problem (I don't think so!). Two days ago I called to tell them I hadn't received the statements yet. Was told they were sent on the 4th and I should have received them. Actually had to argue that I hadn't! Said they would re-send them (Gee, thanks!). Yesterday I receive two things from DirecTv in the mail: 1) A PAST DUE notice with a discharge date if bill is not paid immediately, and 2) in a separate envelope and card thanking me for being such a good customer with coupons attached for 3 free pay-per-view movies.

I have talked with exactly 7 different people at DirecTv about their so-called "downloading" of pay-per-view movies. Two said they downloaded every two months, a couple said they didn't know how often they did, and one said I must have a problem with our phone line (NOPE, husband works for phone company) and the other said they downloaded monthly! They couldn't tell me which movies I had already paid for and could not explain why all (and I mean ALL) my statements since the first HAD INCLUDED extra charges for pay-per-view movies.

If we owe for these extras, fine. I have no problem with that. But what I really can't stand about this company is that I haven't gotten the same answer twice from anyone!

Just a footnote: We used their so-called "moving" deal where you put a hold on your service and they set up with a local company to reconnect at your new address shortly after you move into your new home. Ugh! They forgot to set up an install date and we had to wait 4 weeks to get someone to install service. To top that, yesterday on the phone I found out that because we used their moving service, DirecTv "moved" our anniversary date to the new hookup date! I am ready to just pay them off and go to cable!!!!!

Ummcpaew's Response to tiniree.'s Review

Written on: 21/05/2005

Although it does seem like you got bad customer service, (in that there was a delay in your past statements) you have to follow their suggestions to fix the problem (ie pay the bill now and fix the dispute later) because they at least know their system. And know that if you don’t follow the system then more complications arise eg. you get nasty letters automatically generated saying "pay up!" which make matters worse. and it may be that your husband was watching 'pay for view' movies without telling you, or you both were watching 'pay for view' without remembering or keeping records, which would be fine if you didn't throw away your statements. This would explain the mysterious charges. I for one don't think you were getting charged for TV you didn't receive. and btw, I DO keep all my old statements.

from what Ive read about these sat. is they probably didnt order the movies. Ive read about fifty reviews this morning. After about two thirds of them were horror stories, Ive decided to steer wide and clear of these companies.
Im with rcn cable and get every cable channel known to man a 10mbps internet connection (soon to go to 20) unlimited long distance, local, regional, with five phone feastures for 185 taxes and fees included.
I was gonna go to satelite to save about 20 bucks a month and use sat. for the tv and cable for the internet and phone. No way jose! Not after these reviews!
I also have a choice of about 50 movies to watch; the sopranos; curb your enthusiasm; OZ; family bonds, Every boxing match known to man. A shortened version of every game in footbal starting monday every day for FREE!!! with on demand included in the price.
WHY WAS I THINKING OF GOING TO SATELITE!

written by kuzocom. on 15/06/2002

I have tried to resolve an issue of only getting some channels from the Direct TV service for several months. They have been unresponsive. I cannot even get through to the service department. I tried for a week every day at different times and get a busy signal or cut off in their telephone tree. There is no way you can get ahold of a person. Calling their customer service department is just as bad. They tell you to call the service department. I even had them try to get through and they could not and said that was the only way to get through. I called and spoke with different people at direct TV customer service for literally 2 hrs before getting a promise to have someone call me back to check if they could give me a service call appointment. That was on the 5th day. I also called and was put on hold or cut off for 2 hours 3 days earlier before giving up without speaking with any person. YOU WILL BE SORRY IF YOU HAVE TO GET SERVICE FROM DIRECT TV.
