“NEVER TURNED UP”

★☆☆☆☆

written by nukeypearce on 19/09/2013

It's been quite a struggle to be able to drive with these guys, and it's got to the stage where I've had to give up. I've not even had a lesson yet. I originally booked lessons with RED around just over a week ago. I booked a 12 hour set of lessons costing around £200, and was told I'd receive a confirmation e-mail of the account and that they were confirmed. Never received an e-mail. I called them up a while later and was told that they spelt my surname incorrectly. The corrected it and said it'll take up to 24 hours to go through and to await an e-mail. Two days later passed, no e-mail. I was told there was a system issue, and so with some investigation they resolved that issue and sent me an e-mail confirming the lessons. A week has passed, and I was ready for my first lesson. No one turned up. I was expecting the instructor to turn up (Solomon Ani) to no avail. I called the instructor - voicemail. I then called RED and spoke to someone called Adam on the customer services team - only to be told "the instructor hasn't even accepted or declined the lessons, therefore we can not confirm either way that they will be turning up". They have had a week to confirm my lesson only not to bother, and then to be told "There's only one person in the area that instructs, and he's quite a busy guy so you might not be able to have lessons as regular as you expect". I now have to wait until next week just to be able to give them my card details to request a full refund. No apology. No goodwill - nothing. Seemed like "Adam" really didn't care about my situation at all. I am even tempted to give up the driving thing and put it down as a bad job, and not even bother learning. My confidence in driving has already been knocked back by my last instructor but to not even turn up - that's just plain rude. If you live in the Tiverton/Exeter area I certainly would NOT recommend the RED driving school. Not all instructors are the same but if they don't even bother looking at their diaries you'll be left without a lesson.

And just to add further to this... it has now been found out that Solomon isn't even working for RED any more - they have been independent for months now! Which begs the question... why are they taking money for instructors that aren't even franchised to RED in the first place?

It strikes me that they are an unprofessional and incompetent organisation. They treated me in a similar way taking £3,500 off me for instructor training. Not even helping me past the part II and denying me a refund. Then they went into liquidation and re-set up as RED again. Definitely and organisation to avoid if you're learning to drive.

“Brilliant, professional experience!”

★★★★★

written by Abbiebartlett on 19/09/2013

I learned to drive in the North Tyneside area (Newcastle) with Kerry Hopwood it was a great experience and Kerry is a fantastic instructor and I learned reasonably quickly and was taught everything that I needed to know, I passed my test with just two minors and couldn't have done so without Kerry! Fantastic instructor! Brilliant experience! I liked that my instructor was very detailed and helped me in places where I needed improvement. I have no complaints what so ever! Highly recommended!

“NEVER TURNED UP !!!!!!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by bruced on 17/09/2013

Booked a 2 hour lesson for my sons first driving lesson and red never turned up. After phoning several times and spending most of call time on hold still never got a lesson. Never even got a reason why they didn't turn up or an apology. AFTER ALL THAT HAD TO FIGHT WITH THEM TO GET MONEY BACK. Complete and utter waste of time wouldn't recommend them to anyone

★★★★★

written by on 17/09/2013

I think I went with the best driving school there is, my instructor was always on time, he always kept in contact with me which is helpful, always had plans of what to do for each lesson, never got annoyed with me when I made mistakes, helped me how to improve on my weak areas and got me through my driving theory test first time and I just passed my driving test today first time, would definitely recommend using RED as they give an excellent service for the price of each lesson, don't look no further than the RED driving school, you will get the results you want making sure you put hard work in, thankyou for an outstanding service, looking to do pass plus with RED to, once again thankyou.

Due to circumstance with instructor before my test I had to change instructor with a different car. Also customer service was not interested that I now have to pay £16 more then my previous instructor and the new instructor wants to do at least 3 more sets of 2 hour sessions.

“Professional Driving Lessons”

★★★★☆

written by on 15/09/2013

I had lessons with RED Driving school, Scott Pitcher as my instructor, for around two months, having around 20 lessons in total, each about two hours long. This ~40 hours of instruction proved invaluable, as I managed to pass my test on the first go. The instructor was very prompt, friendly and patient; wasn't late for one lesson, but unfortunately had to cancel once (19 out of 20 isn't bad) and gave good notice on the cancellation. Using this school comes with the benefits of a very easy to use online service where you can book and purchase lessons easily or cancel if need be. The car the instructor used was also very smart, simple and noticeable (good for learners, i thought). All in all, a good service I would recommend to anyone, even if the price can seem high compared to some of the other services on offer.

“Lessons”

★★★☆☆

written by steve079 on 15/09/2013

I started learning with this company, some miss communication with my initial instructor. One time he didn't turn up because he miss understood the appointments and another time he turned up when there was no lesson. Anyway at some point the instructor had to go abroad for a family issue. The next instructor I was given wanted me to travel to Mitcham from South Norwood which is two trams. So I was then expected to travel for driving lessons. The attitude from the instructor was like well if you can make the effort and travel so it's more convenient for him then I can continue. So I'm no longer using this driving school and using another one. I've also progressed a lot more with my new instructor instead of just doing left and right turns every lesson and driving fairly well with just two lessons and doing more manouvers and more driving. “Roberta Noble is a Great Instructor, Passed First Time!!!”

★★★★★

written by Rohan_Mandal on 14/09/2013

I am of Indian Nationality and although I knew driving (2yrs) I did not understand any rules of driving in UK and also I had lots of bad habit. But with Roberta teaching me, I actually have developed better driving skills and am confident on roads. And of course, I also passed the exam the first time around which I believe on my own I would have never been able to pass. She teaches perfectly, explains all the rules and maneuvers properly, and gives regular feedback and solutions of the mistakes during practice. She is very co-operative and very systematic. I will recommend her to any beginner who would like to pass the test the first time as well as those who want to be good confident drivers.

“Professional Driving School & Great Car To Learn In”

★★★★☆

written by splush on 13/09/2013

needing to get my driving license out the way asap before uni, I decided to pick davide via RED to help me fulfill this wish. in exactly 2 months and with around 30 hours of driving lessons I was able to successfully pass, and just in time! I passed on my first attempt with one minor, and this definitely wouldn't have been possible without an instructor like Davide. making the whole process fun and relaxing whilst simultaneously remaining professional made me feel at ease, which in turn allowed me to learn at a quick pace. friendly, thorough and flexible with times, I HIGHLY recommend Davide if you need a driving instructor!

I learnt to drive with RED Driving School. My instructor was in the Goodmayes area. He was very supportive and didn't dwell too long the boring aspects of driving. I would count down to every single lesson because it was so much fun! I definitely would recommend RED Driving School and 100% would advise if you're in the Barking/Ilford/Goodmayes area to try and learn with him.

“Bob T (red driving school) is BRILLIANT! ”

★★★★★

written by on 10/09/2013

I learnt to drive with Bob Tolliday in the Basildon area. Bob was patient, fun, fair and a brilliant instructor. He has passed many of my family And is now teaching many more of my family and friends. The Basildon routes are very tricky but with Bobs help I managed to pass! So exciting. I was estatic the day I passed last Thursday- and equally so was Bob which was lovely. Thanks Red! (Particularly sweet as I had 10 years previously not managed to pass my test with a different school despite trying 3 times.)

“Disappointed”

★☆☆☆☆

written by olufisayo on 10/09/2013

I am highly disappointed both the customer service and the unreliable instructor. Many instructor would call prior to the lesson to ascertain the date and time are right which was not true with this instructor. Red claimed that I would lose my money if I don't show up for the lesson but yet the instructor did not show up and my money was not refunded to me. They were very sweet when I first called them. They did not apologise when my lesson was cancelled. I paid on the 24th of August and I have not had my lesson till now. I called to re booked the lesson and an apology, the customer service said It was not their fault so the instructor needs to apologise to me(who happens to work for RED) and gave me an unimaginative time for mother. I am highly disappointed

Within a few minutes of booking my lessons I received an email from Red with all of the details of my instructor, and before I had finished reading the Email the Instructor was on the phone introducing himself and making arrangements for the lessons Hope this helps
