“Test drive in car with Failed MOT!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by mjlt_1 on 03/01/2018

We were taken out for a test drive in a car that had failed it's MOT. We had to notify the sales person it had no MOT two days before we were due to collect (they had not picked this up and I spotted it doing due diligence checks) which had we not done so we would have wasted our time and a long drive going to collect a car we could not drive. We raised this as a concern to the Ops Manager, and their customer service department and a month later still have had no response. Once we had bought the car, on the way home the Oil warning light came on, along with the service overdue warning, despite the car supposedly having been services 10 miles and two weeks previously. There was also a foul smell when we used the washers as the windscreen washer water was stagnant, all of which should have been picked up by the service and then the MOT. We were directed to take the car to Halfords to get checked which showed the oil level was seriously low. So not only did they open up the possibility of prosecution for driving a vehicle with failed MOT, but they also appear to have not serviced the car correctly (or at all) and the operations manager has failed to respond to our concerns showing a clear lack of after sales care.

“Don't honour guaranteed price”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jerryY6 on 06/10/2017

Selling car. Filled in online quote request accurately and got a guaranteed price of £4860. took morning off work to deliver at agreed time. To start with they had "lost" the quote and guaranteed price then offered £600 less. Seem to work on basis that you will agree as you have gone all the way down there. No apology or explanation. I drove my car home. The online quote was slightly more generous than competitors but you dont get an email confirmation you just press to book appointment so unless you take a screenshot of offer they can offer less than competitors at that point. I note this outfit sell cars too.Personally i would not buy anything more expensive than a kettle from them. The only thing that would seem to be guaranteed is sharp practice and hassle

“Bought a lemon!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by bruceybruce on 05/01/2016

I bought a car from Carshop, Swindon about 4 months ago and have had serious problems with the engine ever since. The sales process was fine and apart from being sold a very expensive polish (Gardx) and a useless 1 year warranty, I was happy with the experience. However the problems started straight away - should have noticed on test drive and walked away but of course I was promised all problems would be sorted and nothing to worry about... Well, the most important thing with choosing where to buy a car is how they deal with after sales and in this case the answer is badly! I would definitely not recommend carshop and would spend a bit more going to a proper dealer in future. Having wasted countless days trying to get my car fixed and being seriously inconvenienced, they are now doing nothing about the problem, the "customer care" department and manager are not interested. So I am left with a useless car (which by the way is only a few years old and low mileage) I am going to have to waste more time taking them to court to claim back money.

“FANTASTIC AS EVER CUSTOMER SERVICE A**********”

★★★★★

written by Jane_Dent on 31/10/2015

Having purchased previous cars, three prior to this, we had no hesitation in returning to the CarShop Swindon. We were, as always, greeted by staff who are clearly passionate about what they do and are eager to please the customer. It took me three full days of test driving various cars and changing my mind more than once, the gentleman who served me was so patient and understanding, don't know how he managed it, thank you to him, you are a star. His knowledge of the vehicles being sold was amazing. Having read other reviews, I do not agree with the "hard sell" views that people have, we dealt with a guy who is a credit to the company and could not do enough to help, the after sales service was second to none and we will be returning once more when we change our car again. We ended up buying a car for our son too!!! The Manager clearly runs a tight ship where the priority is always customer satisfaction and the customer really does come first, thank you to him. No hesitation in recommending the CarShop Swindon to anyone. A fantastic team.

“rude sales guys”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Grady60 on 23/04/2015

The sales guys are very polite and friendly at the beginning. Unfortunately, they could be very rude if you don't like the car and want a discount. In my case one of the tyres was "no name" - never heard it before. Certainly, I have to replace it if I buy the car. In addition the price was a bit high for the mileage and the age. Very bad experience overall and it left a bad taste in my mouth.

“Easy, welcoming and no pressure”

★★★★★

written by niksmiff1961 on 05/01/2015

If you need a car and don't really know what you want yet, why not pop over to CarShop in Swindon - dead easy to find, just up the road from the football ground = for an afternoon and look around? I vaguely knew what I wanted - a Citroen DS5 - and a hassle free no pressure look around there revealed a great car at a great price. You'll find that one sales associate takes you under their wing, but not so closely that it feels like they are humping your leg, and will let you look and touch and drive with no direct selling at all. I drove my new car back home within three hours of seeing it, thanks to the free 5 day insurance that CarShop provide, and the whole process was as quick and clean as my new car is. Highly recommended.

“Service was good”

★★★★☆

written by on 11/08/2014

After finding the entrance I was welcomed by a member of staff and taken through the process. He explained all details to me well and asked the right questions. I did test drive a car, but was not sure if this is the right choice. Eventually I was allowed to take a look around other cars in the hall. I left with no car but felt looked after.

“DO NOT BUY”

★☆☆☆☆

written by enAyers1968 on 02/08/2014

Went to pick up my car to be told it was declared as disabled so it was my job to go to Oxford to get it sorted. Not my problem. Had lots wrong with it they did not care. 6 months later the clutch burnt out without my knowledge. Asked for a spare key only to be told I'd have to pay £160 for one. WOULD NEVER BUY FROM THERE AGAIN. PLUS WILL TELL EVERYONE I KNOW TO STAY CLEAR.

“Sold faulty car”

★☆☆☆☆

written by VLDS on 01/08/2014

We spent more than 16K on a car that started going wrong from day1 of us having it. This car goes into "limp mode" and the EM light flashes as soon as it gets to a high speed esp on the motorway; this way we have had to risk the lives of our children and us not only once but three times in the middle of the motorway, this making us panic and causing us stress. These incidences have caused us to miss important appointments twice thus costing us money and valuable time. As a result our children are now frightened to sit in the car. Even though Carshop fixed it for us (inadequately), the same fault has occurred twice consecutively. In the one month we have had it for, this car has gone to the garage 3 times. This car was driven from Northampton to Swindon for us to see it, EM light should have been noticed then and reported to us, instead they sold us a faulty car. We are forced to believe that they must have switched it off at the time of the test drive because the very next day we take it on the motorway the E M light started flashing. They advertise that they do a 114pt check on the car before it's sold, in our case this was not performed accurately. The boxes relevant to the car were N/A'd, when asked to repeat the check because the first one done was not reliable at all they still performed the 2nd check dissatisfactorily where again the relevant boxes were N/A'd; So they sell the cars without thoroughly checking them. During the sale there were several other things they told us which when verified after the sales were found to be incorrect. We feel we have been lied to. During the sale you are very important to them, as soon as you sign the deal they don't want to know you anymore. Despite telling them that our children are not happy to travel in this car anymore and that we have lost faith in the car, that they have sold us a faulty car and therefore we would like to return this car and get our money back; Carshop does not want to take it back, instead they want us to use it and risk our lives once more in this car. We would never want to deal with them again.

“Wouldn't use them again”

★★★☆☆

written by Romerown357 on 02/05/2014

I went to the car shop in Swindon as I was unsure of what car to buy. It was perfect to view many different cars undercover. The salesman had very basic knowledge of the vehicles. I left a deposit on a car that was at another branch. I was contacted 5 days later and went back to view the car. I was taken into a room to discuss warranties etc, the salesman was incredibly pushy. I decided not to have any of the warranties and was told that I would regret it. I was unable to take the vehicle this day and came back 2 days later and was passed from person to person to finalised details this went on for ages. The initial salesman was very uninterested in showing me the basics on the car. I left awaiting the service history to be sent to me, I am still waiting for this. I definitely would not go there again or recommend them.

“Worst company I've ever dealt with.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Faheem86 on 30/04/2014

Purchased a car from the Swindon store about a year ago. At first they would do anything to sell the car to you even picked me up from the station and made me feel welcome. But I have nothing but problems with the car ever since and the aftercare and customer service is the worst I have ever experienced in my entire life. I paid 20 thousand for my car and purchased all the add ons like the warranty and asset protection however every time something has gone wrong I have been passed from pillar to post and have had to pay for everything myself even with the warranty as the warranty is a third party warranty and carshop only sell it as a broker which is never obviously mentioned or pointed out at the time of the sale. Furthermore every time you want to complain you can only do it via email ([email protected]). Since the purchase of my car I have sent around 11 emails to them including number of members of staff but to this day have not received a reply. All in all worst company by far with out a doubt and don't be fooled by the good reviews as they are only written by family and friends of the staff which I was told the managers have asked all staff members to do so. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS.

take them to small claims court it will cost you £80 to do this online. when will people realise a judge in small claims will listen to both sides of story and then on balance of probability make a decision he will not just believe it if they say they were only agents for the warranty he will want to see where you signed accepting this was case and signed where this was explained to you
if they dont bother attending you will win all you risk is £80 get online and fill in form good luck

“Excellent, thorough and professional”

★★★★☆

written by on 01/02/2014

A friend recommended Car Shop to me and I'm extremely glad they did! The staff were extremely helpful, knowledgable and caring from the minute we walked in until the minute we left. I felt that everything was explained thoroughly and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. They went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with my purchase, even when I was just waiting for the final touches to the car before I could drive off. They were very patient, listened to what I wanted and were not at all pushy. Took the time to make sure I fully understood what they were advising / explaining. They spoke to me like a normal person, not throwing unnecessary sales jargon at me. The staff that answer the phones (before you book your appointment) didn't exactly prove too helpful as I wasn't told that I needed certain documents that aren't obvious and they never explained anything about the deposit either. This aside, I would definitely recommend!!

“Everything explained perfectly. Nothing hidden”

My daughters recently purchased a car each on finance through the car shop in swindon. The salesmen where not pushy really knew their stuff and they got the exact car they where looking for.salesmen were polite and friendly and went out if their way to make it a happy experience. After all getting your 2nd car is a bit special. Paper work was explained warranty and gap insurance. Although a little time consuming, well it would be because we bought two cars. At least it was thoroughly explained. Professional guys would definately recommend to go there. Only little negative Is as a big showroom doors open one end , where people where test driving the cars in and out of showroom, which made the waiting area was really cold. So bring a warm coat although free tea and coffee as much as u could drink was a bonus . Thanks carshop all is great new cars are fantastic :)

Needed a mid size car with Bluetooth, sat nav and parking sensors with a limited budget. The very helpful salesman wasn't pushy came up with 3 choices, 2 test drives later I picked the car I wanted and needed with the colour I liked. I liked the fact that I didn't have to go outside to look at cars. Everyone was very helpful and I would defiantly buy my next car from there again.
