Paint thin and doesn't cover well and within 2 hours of use the trigger broke and there was paint everywhere. Waht a mess and I bought it because I thought it would be less messy. Never again!

“Totally naff product!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JanetHammond on 24/01/2012

I purchased my PaintPod and several of its attachments over a year ago and, due to a protracted house move, did not get it out of the box for a little over a year. First time I used it, it worked like a dream, even cleaning itself, although I did have to repeat the clean mode as the roller was not sufficiently clean after the first attempt. The next day I noticed the trigger began to jam, until eventually the only way I could stop the roller from loading was to press the pause button. I therefore gave up and tried to set the machine to 'clean' mode, but despite making sure everything was in its correct place, all the warning lights flashed and the machine failed to clean. Of course having bought the machine, several of its attachments and 9 pots of its special paint I am substantially out of pocket and now it is out of guarantee. Have written to Dulux for their comments but will not hold my breath. Totally naff and overpriced tatt! Janet Hammond

Addendum to my review above:-
Dulux DID reply to my letter and sent me a voucher to enable me to claim another PaintPod machine from B&Q. Of course I will use the voucher but the sceptic in me feels that it won't be any better than the first. If I'm proved wrong I will submit a further comment, however with the benefit of hindsight I would not have purchased this product (or all it's expensive attachments and specialist paint!)

“Paintpod”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Carole2006 on 11/12/2011

Got out my paintpod, connected it up as per the instructions and after about two strokes with the roller the paint stopped flowing through. The pump completely ceased up. Its the first time I've used it, I got it from B & Q but I can't find the receipt. I am very, very disappointed with this product. It took me a couple of hours to clean it manually and pour out the paint into a regular roller try and use a normal roller and paintbrush! It wouldn't be so bad, but the paint costs more than normal paint!

“Excellent Painting Kit”

★★★★★

written by MarkMadisson on 26/09/2011

This is my favourite painting kit of all time. I purchased on Saturday as I am decorating my sons bedroom, and had to finish the whole room by Sunday evening. I was not disappointed, most especially with the price, I sepnt £30 on this item from B&Q in my local store. Apart from Value for money the equipment surpassed my expectations as the paint works were completed with perfect precision. I used to use a standard kit to paint general rooms in my home, however I am so glad I tried something different. The staff at B&Q recommended the product, so I cant take all the credit. Now the room is finished, as well as adding the new furniture into the room to finish it off nicely. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to Paint professionally on a limited budget. I found using the Paint Rod just as simple as If I was using a standard brush, but with much greater coverage for the Walls and Ceilings in the room. Most especially the Ceilings. Dulux PaintPod Roller System is my preffered choice from now on, well done Delux and well done B&Q for recommending this great product to me.

“Major design Flaws”

written by wminnes on 23/09/2011

Painted a 3m x 3m artex ceiling in 30 min result good, cleaned unit exactly as instructions. 24 hours later applied 2nd coat difficult to load, and trigger ceased to function Tried draining did not function. Paint pack had overflowed and there was 1/2 " of paint in the white chamber. Tried cleaning did not function. Changed battery did not function. Paint leaking out of white lid, opened lid to find paint covering all components especially the green circuit board under the switches. also found traces of hardened paint which means the leaking started after the first time the unit was used. THIS UNIT HAS MAJOR DESIGN FLAWS,AND IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE Bill Innes

“Works but not cheap”

★★★★☆

written by chippy101 on 17/07/2011

I painted the hallway and stairs with one of these.. It did in a way seem easier than if I had done the work in the traditional way - but beware the expense!! Good results though and I cleaned mine out to make sure that there were no problems even though it is supposed to be self cleaning.

“Paint pod and paint”

★★★☆☆

written by on 29/06/2011

we bought this last year, to paint in our new house, well, after the first one had to go back, we should of asked for a refund. Takes an absolute age to clean the roller,( as long as does to paint rooms)and then its not like new,Yes you use less paint, but yesterday i got paint back out shed to touch up here and there, to find that even though the lids were put back on as tight as they can, the paint that was left was no use for anything, one tub was like powder, and the others were as hard as can be, so had to throw out 3 half tins of very expensive paint.

“first class product”

★★★★★

written by on 31/05/2011

This machine is a god send, i cant understand some of the negative comments from people about this, its like they not only want the machine to paint the room for them but make them a cup of tea afterwards aswell. Its no fuss, no mess, no hassle and very easy to use and even cleans itself afterwards. (though depending on what colour of paint you use, it may require you to give an extra rinse).I used this to paint the livingroom, hall, stairs and landing, did it no time at all. Yes the paint is a little expensive but you save on needless wastage of paint because of the pump system. I followed the instructions used it correctly and had no problems with it at all. If you are the serious DIY fan then this is maybe not for you but if like me you see painting, cleaning, masking taping, etc as a chore from hellthen the paint pod is ideal, loved using this excellent product, Highly recommended.

“A brilliant idea and when it works it's fantastic. ...”

A brilliant idea and when it works it's fantastic. Sadly the quality control is very poor.

I purchased one from B&Q at the reduced price of £30, painted my hallway and then cleaned and packed it away. The following week I got it out to start painting again and the thing wouldn't pump any paint. So I returned it to B&Q and they replaced it with a new unit.

I took that home and it pumped paint half way up the tube started to make a horrible noise and it stopped pumping. So I returned that one and got another replacement.

I was half way through painting the bathroom and it wouldn't stop pumping paint. I turned the unit off ran a cleaning cycle and tried again and then it wouldn't pump any paint at all. So back to B&Q for another unit, I finished off the bathroom and then did the living room ceiling and all seems to be working ok. Fingers crossed that this one will work still when I go to use it next.

To summarise this is a really good idea and when it works it's great, painting ceilings is a doddle and it really is spatter and drip free, great if you have pets or small children. The self cleaning is ok and gets the worse of the job done but you still need to manually wash it to make sure it's clean

well i think the paint pod is fantastic and i know others who think so too. its a shame we only get to hear the negatives! i first used it to paint a 14ft x 14ft room. I had been exhausted trying to change to dark blue walls to white with my usual paint pad and brush. in desperation i bought a paint pod and finished the room that day. This weekend i have painted the large hall stairs and landing- no mess, easy to use and extremely quick and the brush is fantastic. The only negative is the limited range of colours. Will continue to enjoy using my pod.

did the b&q trip, saw them on offer thought, hell why not, easy cleaning, less hassle, extra reach the whole package looked good..

NEVER again, will be writing to Dulux, half a day to paint two coats on a small ceiling, then cleaning, which meant taking apart and then spotted the problem the connector to the paint bar had come loose.

What a mickey mouse connection, no way it could cope with the pressure of the paint coming thought the pipe.

Back to B&Q in the morning, paint pod, paint and asking for a refund in full..

Sale of goods act "fit for purpose" springs to mind and this certainly is not fit for purpose.

Oh painted the rest of the room in 45 mins with a roller, job done !!!! shame I cannot claim back my wasted hours on this machine

Got up this morning and Mrs decided "we" meaning me would paint the hall...

Bad.

Went to B&Q and bought the paint pod on impulse, well for £30 thats not much more that you pay for all the trays, brushes etc etc that you always need cos you never clean em properly.

I was sceptical, I though it would take me an hour to assemble this thing and then it would be pretty crapping in terms of paint application and then there would be the nightmare of the clean up.

But nope, this thing is brilliant, alright it applies paint a bit thin, but after a couple of coats on a white backgound the results are way better than smearing that one coat stuff that has the consistency of double cream.
No drips and then you get to the cleaning programme, absolutely brilliant.

So, for hassle free, clean and great finish I would really recommend this little unit, at least while its on offer at B&Q for thirty quid!

“There are pro's and con's with this system. ”

★★★☆☆

written by partypest on 28/02/2011

There are pro's and con's with this system.

If you have become used to modern 'one-coat' type paints, do not expect the same instant results with this system. If you paint the proper, old fashioned way, using an undercoat, you will do better.

If, like me, you have pets or small children or endure frequent interruptions whilst you decorate, this device makes life a lot easier. There are no open paint pots standing around, or trays of paint, or precariously balanced rollers awaiting the specialist attention of passing dogs/cats/toddlers. You never have to endure that special moment when pouring paint into a roller tray.

Additionally, as this method requires no frequent stops to refill a roller tray, you may find that the ability to constantly roller is quite tiring!

The triangular brush that comes with the system allows for very fast work in the corners.

Expect to apply three coats in most circumstances. As each coat is quite thin, most of the time the first coat is dry enough to re-coat by the time you've got around the room. This being so, you will find that you can complete a room in a few hours.

The self cleaning function is a triumph. I hate cleaning rollers, now I set it up at the end of the day, press the button and have a cup of tea.

I have found you can refill the paintpod paint pots with any standard emulsion, just don't be tempted to go for anything that uses less litres per square meter of coverage, it'll be too thick for the pump to suck. The extension tubes make a big room or ceilings a doddle.

Yes, most people have mentioned the noise the machine makes. I have a radio that deals with that.

Spent 6 hours one day and 4 hours the following day trying to paint the walls of a small box room. The end result - a very dodgy undercoat effect! Went and bought roller and emulsion, painted the walls and ceiling in 2 hours using the traditional method and results were amazing. Self cleaning a joke, felt like the sourcorer's appentice carrying the water. Never again! What a waste of money!!! Felt like a total mug!

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 05/02/2011

It was exhausting just wathcing my poor old mother paint my ceiling with this device. She huffed and puffed as she dragged the heavy pod along the floor and there was sweat pouring down her furrowed brow before she'd even completed half. And the noise of the constant whirring, combined with her groans as her poor arthritic fingers clasped the trigger, turned my hangover into a full blown migraine. But the real tragedy is the supposed selling point - its easy cleaning. It broke my heart to see her scurrying to and from the kitchen with heavy pails of water to fill it up - only having to repeat this process twice. With her health in mind, the next time I need any painting done, I am going to buy her a good old fashioned roller and tray.

Absolute waste of money even at half price. The Paint for the system is too expensive. Requires more coates than stated in the advert. Not enough paint given to the roller.

Overall, it would have been a good idea but poor performance and the paint is too expensive. Stick to the traditional method (Roller and Tray, cheaper and better result).

written by on 31/01/2011

Bought my Dulux Painpod just over a year ago and it worked great for painting a small bedroom with plaster walls. Just dug it out again to do the living room. First problem, I had 3/4 of a pot of white left from last time which I planned to use on living room ceiling - it had totally solidified, such a waste of money! I wondered if the severe cold this winter might have affected it but some other emulsion that's beein in the same garage for 3 years is still OK. Second problem, the coverage on the wallpapered surface of the living room was much poorer than on plaster and I needed 4 coats - used 2x5l pots at £29.99 a pot! So all in all a bit expensive. If I was rating it on the first use I'd have given 5 stars, if rating just on the latesr experience probably 1 star so in fairness I'll give it an average of 3.

★☆☆☆☆

written by pramsrmike on 30/01/2011

I have just spent a very frustrating afternoon trying to paint a small bedroom with my Paint Pod. I am now giving up and tomorrow, I will buy some cheap emulsion and paint the ceiling with a roller in half the time. Do not believe the claim that it is 'self-cleaning' either, as I followed this procedure last time I used it, but I have just had to spend over an hour trying to chip the old dried-on paint from the roller housing. The roller will also have to be replaced before it can be used again - another £5. The paint is ridiculously expensive for its quality, more than double 'normal' paint. Save your money, buy some decent paint at half the price and a good roller. This machine is not worth the money or the backache.

Can anyone tell me what type of paint they used in the paint pod? Thought that only the special paint designed for it could be used. Since both are discontinued, what are people using in their paintpod? I have a brand new one in storage and believe I can't use it as the paints are no longer available.
