We had to cancel a holiday booked for my parents due to my mothers illness getting progressively worse, she has dementia, I booked with my fathers card paying £25 deposit, but used my name and address, we gave plenty of warning of cancellation, a good reason, and enough time to rebook the cottage. But they have taken me to court for £225 and now I'm being threatened with a bailiff to try and scare me into paying it. Such threatening behaviour and a terrible way to treat people. I suggest you never book with these people

There was no reception for a phone in this cottage and that was not mentioned in the itinerary If anyone had needed an ambulance you could forget it no lighting down to the back gate from the car narrow little path and a step halfway completely Black. No instructions for washing machine had to leave wading in it was assured someone would be round never checked up to see if anyone had been Then cottages4you has the nerve to say l should have chased them up Not only that none of the plugs had date checks on them. I would have defiantly liked to no about the no phone reception. That is important when you are in an unfamiliar place and sparsely populated 2 miles up the road before l could make a call.

AT FIRST THIS COTTAGE (TARONGA)seemed ideal, perfect location and doggie friendly. However on arrival things soon appeared not to our liking,(1) a toaster that was to small for any sized bread, an ironing board that has no cover, no decent sized cups for tea/coffee. A smell of stagnant water in the main bedroom on-suite.as a result of an antiquated shower unit and an ill fitting door, A definite health problem. Should have been picked up on your inspection/s. rather than being accused of being pickie I will leave it at that. In summery it was overpriced. a tv in the bedrooms would be a comfort, a larger first aid box required.

“ruined our holiday. DO NOT RECOMMEND. NEVER HIRE THIS”

written by AFSFAAS on 27/08/2015

This is hands down the WORST family trip i have ever been on in my 45 years. we had hired 2 cottages near the area, one for our family friends family and one for our family. often we went out together and they came to our cottage so we could leave together. The cottage owner who has absolutely atrocious customer service kept coming into our cottage WITHOUT KNOCKING and shouting and everything. one time she came in at 12 at night and started shouting when 2 people were asleep. furthermore, she kept walking in and checking up on us in a rude manner. she often argued with people and had no respect. I would never ever recommend anyone to ever stay in one of there cottages, we ended up leaving early with my wife crying and the company did absolutely nothing to help us.

We rented a filthy cottage in a beautiful village. When we complained cottages4you would do nothing about it as they said cottages were not owned by them. After the poor service will never use them again. Nor will my friends

“do not recommend!”

written by on 21/08/2015

I was looking for a small dog-friendly cottage near to St Austell, available form August 15th for one week. Our choices were limited as the trip was a bit last minute! But I found the Gig House in Mevagissey on Cottages4you, and although it looked small, I thought we could manage as we would only be using it as a base. As soon as we arrived, even before we had time to unload our belongings, a neighbour came out to ask us to move our car as it wasn't parked in far enough! This left us a little bewildered as the property isn't even on a road, and there is no passing traffic! On reading through the Visitor Book, we realised we weren't the first visitors to be asked to move our car! Not a good start! On entering, we were both disappointed to find a room which desperately needed updating. It had been described as "enchanting, compact and stylish" - I wouldn't describe it as any of these things. In fact, that description is a misrepresentation in my opinion. The kitchen needs replacing, the shower is tiny, and the bed is so uncomfortable that neither myself or my partner slept during our stay. It was so bad that we had to leave a day early, as my partner was in so much discomfort that we couldn't spend another night attempting to sleep on that awful mattress. Our inability to sleep was not helped by the constant hum of the fridge directly above us - again mentioned by previous visitors but the owner doesn't appear to have addressed that problem. We paid £550 for the week and I would state that it was NOT WORTH IT. I would not recommend the place to anyone.

“Money-grabbing Misrepresentation”

★☆☆☆☆

written by j-mo-scot on 19/08/2015

We arrived at our holiday destination to find that it stank. Each room had it's own peculiar but characterful smell, the worst being our bedroom which smelt so badly of damp and half a bottle of febreeze that we couldn't sleep. The kitchen, which had an ancient cooker and no food prep area, smelt of a mix of rotten veg and pig slurry, probably due to the pig just outside the window. The sitting room smelt of peat, which is no-one's fault, but they said it was a wood burning stove, not peat burning, and I can tell you those two smells are quite a long way apart. Given that we couldn't sleep due to the smell, and two members of our party started to cough and wheeze really badly, we had to leave. The owner was actually apologetic, helpful, and really decent. The agents, however, have proved to be obstructive, insulting, and argumentative. We wait with bated breath for some of our money to be returned.

“NEVER AGAIN”

★★☆☆☆

written by GageGriffin153 on 11/08/2015

Just returned from what should have been another wonderful annual week with family (South Wales). After a spoiled holiday, due to water coming through the roof, into the lounge and children's bedrooms and following lengthy, conversations with Cottages for You, Owner and Repair Man (Living on site in a caravan in the grounds)??? not informed of this of course, Cottages for You agreed to refund us for £698, stating that the money would be in our account by Friday evening. Today (Tuesday, he money has still not hit my account), the very arrogant young lady informed me, "our accounts team and a delay, there is nothing I can do about it - they have a backlog of 2 weeks, you will just have to wait"! Then looking and listening a bit more, she informed me that I have been paid in 4 instalments (£25.98, £250.00, £150.53 and £171.49)????? Beware all booking with this company, not only have they misrepresented the property, as it was advertising a games room with the house, but failed to state that this was now 'off site', dirty accommodation, covered in dust everywhere needed a thoroughly good clean, but was in need of extensive repairs to the on-suite which sounded like a loud hooter every time the toilet was flushed (during the night was fun - I can tell you) and poured water through the living room roof, which was bowed and obviously ready to fall down. To add insult to injury after all that is unacceptable. Please reconsider if you have booked through this company! I will ring my bank again, to ask if they can work out the snail trail of repayments! BOOKING GREAT IT WAS NOT! RELATES TO UPPER CALF FIELD COTTAGE - HAVERFORDWEST - REF OJ6

“Don't ever make a complaint to this company-they don't...”

I stayed in one of their higher standard (gold) properties and was a loyal customer since 2009. This year, July 2015, the standard of the property was extremley poor and there was a major infestation of flies, some of which were in the food cupboard, probably attributed to the large pile of rubbish bags outside the back of the property. I rang customer services to highlight the issue whilst on my holiday and then as discussed followed it up with a written complaint. Did I get an apology no what I got was a poxy loyalty voucher so that I would rebook with them next year. They have no understanding of customer service and I am still wrangling with them with an apology but they are basically saying that it is my fault. What did I do bring the flies and various other insects with me in suitcase. I was travelling with my elderly mother and this was supposed to be a break, I could not cook anything in the flat due to worry of what these creatures had crawled over and had to eat out which did not help the holiday coffers. Cottages4you should be ashamed of their behaviour.

“Scandalous !!!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by mariatinsley on 04/08/2015

My parter booked a cottage for us in Cornwall for October of this year. As we later decided to get married, we changed the booking so that we could go for our honeymoon in June of next year. The original deposit was £150, and the cost to change the booking was £30, total now accruing to £180. The balance was due a few weeks prior to the departure date. In the meantime, due to unforseen circumstances, we are unable to go in June, after the wedding, so we decided to cancel the whole thing, knowing that we would probably have to forsake our deposit and the administration fee of £30 to change the original. As if this was not enough money to have lost, my partner then recieved a telephone call, saying that we had to pay a further £30 to cancel the booking. This took our total layout to £210 and we have had nothing !!!! I think that the whole setup is a complete rip off. I doubt that the owner of the property has seen any of this money !!!! To be honest, since this has happened I have read some of the reviews, and if I had have read them sooner, I would not have booked with this company, and I am dead certain that I will never book with them again. It makes my blood boil when you are ripped off by these companies and they have no compassion or thought for anyone except for lining their own pockets. We are now honeymoon less and £210 out of pocket. I hope these thoughtless moneygrabbers can sleep at night !!!!! P.S. The only reason why Cottages4you got one star is because there is not option for minus stars !!!

Absolutely outstanding property which the website photos and descriptions certainly undersell. Very spacious accommodation, well equipped and presented it was absolutely ideal for our three generation family break for 10. Children loved the pool and the adults loved the hot tub. Games room was a welcome bonus too. Just off the main road, down a track and very rural and secluded yet only five minutes from a supermarket and other shops, restaurants and parks. Gas BBQ meant that we chose to stay on the property in the evenings. Very centrally located for visits along the Fife coast and to Edinburgh. Had a great time and hope to return in the future. Only returned yesterday and have already recommended to friends.

“Not A Private Cottage”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 19/06/2015

The cottage is owned by a butcher who stores his produce in the garage beneath the cottage and comes twice a day to empty and load his truck. The windows and doors have to be kept closed due to the many cats that roam the property. The garden is overgrown with weeds and the back terrace is unkempt. The pool is good and the view is great.

“Who writes the cottage details?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 27Nicholson on 14/06/2015

Went to one of their cottages, Mallows, Seaford. Said parking for two cars. Turned out to be on an unmade road (very unmade.) Large tree stumps, danger of falling down a steep slope. Obvious long term parking disputes with neighbours. Why were we sent into this dispute? Parking available, as stated, means parking in a drive, not in a narrow, unmade road. One car possible with difficulty, two cares not possible unless you want an argument with neighbours. Also TV on arrival didn't work. No house instructions on equipment. Outside of property badly in need of repair. Inside, stark. Very disappointed and slightly annoyed that the description were misleading and actually even worse

“Hidden Cottage Lowick nr Coniston Lake District ”

★★★★★

written by ThatJeffro on 24/05/2015

From setting foot in the cottage my wife and I knew we had made the right choice. Exactly what we wanted for our "get away from it all" holiday. Comfortable, warm, cozy, clean and well equipped. The website description was spot on and booking was easy. Paying was really simple with booking confirmation and all the necessary details arriving by email in seconds after completion. All in all a very stress free process. The only problem was with the directions missing a turn off which sent us a few miles out of our way but the SatNav soon had us back on track. This did not spoil the holiday. The Lake District was easy to explore from the cottage as a base and there was lots of interesting places to see and things to do. I would not hesitate in recommending Cottages4u and will definitely be using them again.

Previous review stated owners speak English, this is not so, hardly any at all would only recommend going there if you like horses and speak French. It is very isolated and shops in nearest town never seemed to be open. Also it states on the Cottages 4you advert that you must pay 150 euros security deposit which is incorrect as the owner did not want this No information in English in accommodation what so ever all leaflets in French!!! Good idea to bring an English guide book with you.

I have just booked a Cottages4You holiday in France. I have used Cottages4You for French holidays before and it has been great, no problem. This time, however, I am a bit worried because the refundable deposit that the owner wants at the start of the holiday is 200 euros (the same cost as the holiday itself). I understand it is a refundable deposit but is there ever any problems getting the money back? If I leave the property as I found it, will the owner be fair and give a full refund? Also is it normal to charge for cleaning at the end of the holiday (25 euros)? Because of the huge amount of money involved, I am really worried now. Property is FNC034 in Arromanches. I have paid deposits in the past but they have always been around 50 euros - never this high.

Our experience with Cottages for you was Excellent and our experience with the owner was equally as good. The owner of the cottage we stayed in contacted us to check we were happy during our stay, I would certainly trust Cottages for you if they assure you that the deposit is refundable, I hope this helps.
