“One of the Acer's budget laptops.”

★★★★☆

written by simpy3 on 01/09/2012

The Acer Aspire has come in a few different options and of which, mine started off with an 80GB HDD, 1.86Ghz Intel Celeron, 1GB RAM and Intel X3100 graphics chip. Since then, it's been boosted to 3GB RAM and 2.00Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo and has a 5200mAh battery which boosts from the original 2 hour max to 4 hours. The laptop's standard spec is good enough for everyday computing and get's the job done with littlery effort. But if you're looking to have lots of applications open or intend to do RAM intensive activites then you'll have a struggle. The best part if the laptop is the fact that doing upgrades is a very simple task and the performance difference is certainly noticable. Good: Enough power for everyday tasks, easily upgradable Bad, Battery life, Integrated graphics chip's mediocre performance.

“Very good value for money”

I bought mine a few years ago new for £299. No complaints at all. It came with vista, which i found very reliable. Since vista is going out soon, am banking XP pro will keep getting support from software manufacturers etc since so many people use it, so going to put in larger disk and install XP Pro.

of common faults. mine wont run from the battery that is to say it wont charge the battery. these laptops have internal motherboard faults which cause them not to power up. i would reccomend you place it on a large book or so so the vents are not blocked! i cleaned the fan a year ago but its worth saying there is no smokers in our house so maybee that is why others are heating up. the day i got this i had vista removed and xp put on. best move i ever made :> this laptop is used daily and usually left on for weeks at a time great so far and its been about 5 yrs . the dvd cd drive went after 2 yrs on the down side i would like a new laptop this one is to old now mine now has 1gb memory bur was half that the 1st few yrs jged

“this laptop comes with windows vista, uninstall it...”

★★★★★

written by on 05/02/2011

this laptop comes with windows vista, uninstall it pronto, xp or win7 is a safer bet, upgrade the memory to 2 gig and you have a powerfull laptop on your hands, battery life is extremely poor, screen is one of the best, but the inbuilt graphics are not good for gaming, i use for mixing music and its performed really quite nicely, on the overheating problem, just go to the acer site and download the Epowermanagement file, cause after installing a new os it will be missing, standard windows drivers will not be able to run the fan properly, overall its a bargain, it can be had for as low as 150 quid, just upgrade the memory !

I owned this laptop for only 5 months and closed the top down and the next day opened it and the screened was cracked above the right hand hinge. Was told it was not covered by warranty. This is a real disappointment in this product. Wouldn't recommend or tell anyone to buy this brand ever, ever, ever. Didn't stand behind their product. B.C.

“I have mixed feelings about the Acer 5315.Ive had it...”

★★★☆☆

written by tom mcshane on 02/11/2010

I have mixed feelings about the Acer 5315.Ive had it for about 3 years. It was considered fairly good at the time,it has a 80g hard drive and one gig of ram and although there was laptops more powerfull and with bigger hard drives at the time it was probaly the cheapest compared to others with the same spec.Ran with no problems for a while but like all laptops, its only getting slower.Havent had any problems whith the keyboard exept the d key which occationaly lifts up but it is 3 years old.Screen and display, also no problems. After about a year or so I noticed that the hinges were opening at the back which worried me but have had no further problems. Its pretty slow and is getting gradualy worse and now when i click on a link i have to reload the page a couple of times before it opens. Its bulky and heavy which is'nt a problem for home use but forget it if your thinking of taking the Acer 5315 away with you. When I brought it I thought 80g hard drive would have been suffiecient and as any laptop user knows you collect programs, software and files which over the course of a couple of years easily eats up your disk space. The battery power is bad and has got worse since new,now I can probably get two hours max once fully charged out of it which is'nt a problem for home use but go into a enviroment where you cant charge it and it's a pain.

Overall
If you are sombody who is easily wound up by slow laptops do not buy this.Although I am impressed it has lasted this long but compared to modern laptop its very slow.Basicly it was ok at the time, has lasted a while but has insuffisient storage and ram.Would suit kids as first laptop.

“Basically the laptop comes with 1GB memory and 80GB...”

★★★★☆

written by vickidavies on 11/12/2009

Basically the laptop comes with 1GB memory and 80GB hardrive. It has a 15'' screen and built in wireless technology.
My laptop came with windows vista , fairly drastic changes from XP but one you get familiar with these changes.
Also installed when you purchase this laptop are the microsoft Office programmes (Word, Excel, etc) but they are only a trial version, and I think you have to buy the full version. If you don't want to buy the full version tho, there are very similar Microsoft programmes you can use such as Windows word processor and Windows Spreadsheet and they pretty much do the same job as Microsoft Office Programmes.
The Laptop also comes with:
ACER GAMEZONE - a selection of trial versions of games. Some are pretty decent and can be addictive, however they are only trial versions and you only get about 60 minuits to play each game before you have to buy the full version.

NORTON INTERNET SECURITY - Anti virus, but again a trial version
Software to enable you to watch DVD's (ACER ARCADE) and burn CD's.

USING ACER ASPIRE 5315
Overall I think is an enjoyable experience however I think it depends what you want to use a laptop for. I use my laptop basically for , surfing the internet and downloading music for my ipod on itunes. I also occasionly use it to play music and watch DVD's.
The keyboard is also quite handy in that it has shortcut keys. They are used by pressing the blue 'Fn' button and they appropriate shortcut key. They have small symbols / pictures on them which easily represent their function. For example you can change the brightness of the screen, turning sound on and off and control some of the functions in windows media player such as skip a song, stop, and play.
Overall I'd rate this laptop 5/10. I find it too big, bulky and very heavy but I do like the shiny screen (exept when its bright and sunny!). However, like me, if you do not tend to move your laptop around anywhere, exept around the house maybe, then I wouldn't worry about the bulkyness of this laptop. If you'r a business person who travels around alot then I'd recommend something smaller and lighter.
I find the colours of the laptop also don't look nice at all, not together anyways. I think it should be all black and i dont see the point in the keyboard being grey. I think that's all I have bad to say about this laptop. Using this laptoo is quich and easy, especially if you only use it for basic things such as the internet, msn, and downloading music. It's also goo for watching DVD's, however the sound is rubbish do you'd probably need to plug it in to some speakers.

I wouldnt recommend this laptop to anybody. I have had nothing but trouble with it from the start. It over heats and turns off very easily as the fan is no good on it. The laptop is easy to use, but it is definatley not value for money. Anytime it is on my lap it overheats very quickly. The battery life is very short too. definatley a badly designed laptop. As the laptop was a new design when i got it, there were unfortunatly no reviews on the laptop.

I can't believe all the negative remarks, the only negative thing I have to say about it is windows vista installed , but that's easy fixed go back to XP and the thing flies, one the easiest laptops to upgrade I am now running a core 2 duo in mine and 2 gig of ram.I have an N series wifi card on the way to upgrade the wifi in it (although the original wifi is excellent).
As far as no recovery disks, there is a recovery partition which will reinstall the machine back to factory setup and will make you recovery disks (read the intructions people).
As far as gaming goes no it probably isn't good for that but you should have looked at the specs before you bought it.
seriously awesome machine for the price, perfect for student or home user wanting to do word , excel etc and internet surfing

“This was my first laptop...and I have to say that...”

★★★☆☆

written by cazzface on 23/06/2009

This was my first laptop...and I have to say that overall I've been happy with it...or at least I was until a few months ago. The screen is pretty big and very clear and it plays all my films and everything fine and the wireless never fails.
Here's the problems...
There is nowhere near enough memory on this laptop, I have the 1gb 80gb model and I can't play any games on it without them freezing or crashing and I don't have enough memory for all my music etc.
It also takes and AGE to load up, although it didn't do when I first got it. Another annoying thing...half the time the volume won't change, it started doing this about 2 or 3 months ago...from turning it on the buttons and on screen changer often don't work for about 20 minutes and sometimes not at all.
The battery is now totally knackered, if I'm not really doing anything with it I can get it to last for about an hour and a half...with films playing I need to have it plugged in almost all the time.
Oh and it's not easy to lug around with me because it's so heavy.

This is honestly a good solid laptop for home use but if you do decide to get it I recommend getting an external hard drive for music and pictures and don't use it for gaming.

acer are good at what they do, but my experience of them, is that they are basic computers. If they were cars, they would a a Fiesta, but the purchasers expect a BMW!!

Really good value, easy to use, set up was simple, I bought an Acer Aspire as my 1st lap top before I went to Uni and it has served me perfectly.
As things got easier I have bought an external hard drive to put all estra stuff on.

This is a perfect laptop for a student staying away from home for the 1st time, doing general assignemnts etc; anything more complicated and a more robust model is probably advisable.

Generally a very good laptop, found that with a price tag of 265 GBP you were certainly getting your money's worth with the Acer Aspire 5315.
More than enough DDRAM for a basic laptop.
Screen graphics very clear.
Positive Keyboard.
Battery Life was good.

Affordable laptop, chunky, but strong. Easy to use, good starter laptop for students. However, It won't work after 13 months. Acer customer support are not interested in reparing, advsing best to take it somewhere local. Very poor customer service. 1 month outside warranty and it doesn't work!
