Having written a very negative review of Available Car in August, I can only say the events that followed me taking the 308 back, left me praising the general manager and the company. Th general manager contacted me whilst my 308 was there and asked me to go and see him. I am pleased that Available Car do take customers complaints seriously and do want to listen. The general manager here could not have been more helpful or sincere. The problem with the 308 was resolved and I am I now very happy with what I drive. In all, I would not hesitate buying another car from Available Car and I wouldn't think twice about recommending the company to others.

Available Car's Response to MelanieRu's Review

Our company policy is to not use review sites, we believe that they are far too open to abuse and manipulation by unscrupulous individuals and companies.

However, customer service is very important to us – and we very much appreciate your positive comments, thank you.

Kind regards, the AvailableCar Team.

“Personally, would NEVER buy from these again.”

Saw a car on the internet and arranged to drive the 3 hr trip there the next day. Called on the way there to be told that they were getting the car ready for our arrival. Took it for a test drive, and was very happy with it and decided to buy ! Was offered a really poor price for our car to exchange - (half the price of other offers we have had) Anyway, got down to the paperwork and ended up being told to visit the closest bank to get a stamped paper from them. Fair enough. On the way there got a phone call from the sales person to be told that they couldn't even let the car go that day anyway as it hadn't been fully checked over... Told the sales person what a useless set up they had there.. having to drive a 7hr round trip and going home with nothing - unbelievable. I suggested them to write a paper saying that these things were unchecked just to get the car home - NO. Suggested i could get a B&B and come back in the morning - NO.

“Give these a miss!”

Me and my fiancée was in the market for a new car and decided after seeing all the adverts we'd start here, once we arrived at castle donnington we was pointed out To the cars we wanted to view on a map (it's quite a big place) once we had looked around it became apparent that they don't maintain or look after their cars !! Some of them are covered in mud and several had flat battery's. Meaning doors won't shut right. This not putting us off we decided to test drive 2 cars a zetecS and a BMW 118D. The BMW had a flat battery which had to be jump started off the forecourt and we was told should we stall the car we'd have to be towed!!!! That to me was a joke! After looking through prices we then asked What price we'd get for a partx on our 2006 car, they decided it was only worth £2000 and was told to sell it quick!!!! The final straw in this story was we settled for one we seen at their other Sutton dealership, once the salesman took £500 deposit we drove over to view the car to find a huge hole in the seat! After pointing out the airbag was hanging out and it is illegal to trim repair this due to the airbag we was told they're sending it away and it'll take 10 days and a "smart repair" will be done. I asked them to discount the car they didn't I asked them to tax it THEY CAN'T and finally asked about swapping my private reg THEY COULDN'T! I went to Sytner Nottingham and drove off in a BMW 118D with less miles, more spec and cheaper with free 1yr TAX, 7 day free insurance and they changed my plate! Even bought my fiancée flowers!!! Simply put, these are the tesco of the car world, they sell anything of any quality to make a profit. AVOID!

“STAFF HAD ME IN TEARS!”

written by yuffieyulan on 12/08/2012

Looked at a honda cvr priced at £10499 today and freelander at £13000, first off the 1st man i spoke too was about the same age as me (22/23) and he was so rude to me, He told me that its no skin of his nose if he doesnt sell a car as he dosnt work on commission. Told me that if i wanted a car to put down a deposit ASAP as "they sell 200 cars a week and the cars never last long" then told me that the pittance part ex for my audi TT is because the cars devalue by the week. When i viewed the freelander he had to jump start it and told me that it had been here for 6 months! i then said so is should of de-valued by 6 months then so it should be cheaper, he just gave me a dirty look. he basically questioned my money situation and told me that a cheaper car would suit me more, The nerve! i told him just because he is a salesman does not mean were all on his budget, various other rude comments he made. I then wanted to price up the Honda as i reaaaalllly wanted it, had to speak to the finance man ... 1st off he couldn't work out that with my 5k deposit 2.2k on my TT the total price and made himself look a tool by saying its 7.7k! ABSOLUTE IDIOT! Going through finances he gave me no incentive to buy the car, i said look i want this car ill pay for it now, but youre getting my car for next to nothing sort me a deal here.......... he said no! what sort of sales man is that?! i only wanted maybe a cheap extended warrenty or at least a full tank of fuel if there ripping me off nearly 11k! He wouldent communicate with me at all to the point i walked out and burst in to tears! anyone thinking of going there DONT!!!!! HIDDEN COSTS (although appatently there not hidden there just sly) -cars come with 1 mile worth of petrol -No road tax at all -No Mats in the cars (always check that!) -The are about 1500 over priced -And when you work around all the cars say clearly on them 3 years warranty, no purchase 3 years warranty what lead me to belive that they had 3 years on them! and also there is not a single woman there just swarms of bored rude salesMEN!

Available Car's Response to yuffieyulan's Review

Written on: 30/10/2012

On behalf of the whole team, Available Car Ltd would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst visiting our showroom. No one should ever feel like this after visiting a retail outlet, especially not one who takes customer service very seriously. We are very disappointed that you encountered such a terrible experience and we have now completed an internal enquiry into what happened.

Customer service is very important to us, which is why we immediately spoke to the two members of staff involved with your enquiry and they are equally as sorry and shocked by your experience. We acknowledge the process cannot have been clearly communicated and that there was a huge amount of miss-understanding, which is why you were so unhappy.

May we add though in our defence, our Team Members both said you were very rude towards them and that you repeatedly swore using the F word. If a customer does swear or has a bad attitude towards our staff, we do have every right not to serve you.

On this occasion we will say sorry for the lack of clarity from the AvailableCar Team Members, although we hope you agree that at the end of the day, both the Team Member and the customer have to be fair to each other in their behaviour. This includes the two friends you had with you throughout your last visit.

We do not incentive our team of helpers to ‘make’ customers buy cars, they are not paid per car they sell and therefore the whole idea behind the business is to help you find a vehicle of interest and offer advice. Although this is often thought of as a positive thing about our business ethos, we have instructed our employees not to ever mention this to a customer again. It can obviously be miss-leading, so it will not be used in-store from now on other than on our in-store branding.

The Team Members involved have said that they 100% did not use the term, ‘It’s no skin off our nose if you don’t buy the car’. If we ever have proof of any employee saying this, they would be instantly dismissed.

We believe you have visited AvailableCar on two occasions and our Team Member spent 90 minutes with you in total.

During these visits', three different vehicles were of interest to you, two were similar and the other very different, still a 4x4 vehicle; however transmission, fuel type and price were not the same. Our Team members must understand what your budget is but at no point, would our Team Members ever question your ability to pay, it is of no interest to them. They would only ever question if the car was suited to your lifestyle.

Available Car Ltd has an on-site Valuation Team, which allows customers part exchange vehicles to be valued promptly and accurately during the visit.

The Audi TT was originally valued by us during the second week of July this year and the value offered for your eleven year old car was £2200. This was offered after taking into consideration the age, mileage, no service records, engine management light on and general appearance of the vehicle. We still feel this was a very fair valuation.

The second visit was 4 weeks later and although the trade price had decreased by over £100, we were willing and happy to stick with the original value.

Our Showroom helper carried out two test drives on the vehicles of interest (Honda CRV & Land Rover Freelander). Our cars are regularly price checked and adjusted by our buying team to ensure value for money and these records are not accessible to the Showroom Team.

The reason we carry out our own price checks is to ensure we are offering the best prepared vehicles at the best value. This is backed by the Available Car Price Promise.

After the test drives and finance quotes were given by a different senior member of staff, our helpers do not get involved with or are trained to discuss or quote any finance or insurance product and this is why a second person took over, as they are trained and regulated under FSA Rules.

The quotes were given as requested using the part exchange and cash deposits with payments over 24 months. Various quotes were given, each altering the amount borrowed and the terms and APR. This was discussed and documented at length.

Due to the nature of your review, it appears the understanding of the quotes given were not as clear as they should have been and so we can only apologise for this. If you would like to go through the reasons for the price given again, then we are happy to do so.

Our clear intention for all customers Jessica is to offer fixed price vehicle sales and the same finance quote for all customers. We offer additional products and insurance to our customers, but none of these are hidden in the screen price of the vehicle. These are optional extras which are available to purchase at the same fixed prices to all.

We do not incentivise customers by offering dealer fitted options i.e. Mats, Flaps, Free Fuel or Road Fund License for “A Deal Today”. We operate on fixed prices, we do not haggle, cheapest price policy and our reason for that is to treat all customers fairly and equally, we want to operate with clarity. If you go to a supermarket for food, you do not expect to get things free, the price you see is the price offer you pay and we operate in exactly the same way.

The motor trade has been given a bad name for years for trying to rip customers off and only those customers who can haggle best get the best deals. We operate on fixed prices and a 7 day price promise to refund the difference if you can find a car cheaper. It therefore seems unfair to call Available for not haggling.

The extended warranties are also optional and we do advertise this clearly on our price boards, “3 year warranty available on every car”.

We feel you were clearly concerned about hidden costs and sly charges which are not disclosed. We can only assume quotes have been received from elsewhere who have additional charges for preparation, valet and/or administration. You are right to be cautious, as many car supermarkets do have extra rip off charges, we do not and never have, charged extra for number plates and a full preparation, clean and any repairs are done as part of our service.

Once again, may we offer our sincere apologies and acknowledge the process cannot have been clearly communicated. We believe a huge amount of miss-understanding between yourself and the employee must have taken place and we are sorry for the lack of clarity from the AvailableCar Team Members.

We encourage everybody to visit Available Car Ltd, we offer a hassle free approach to vehicle shopping and every one of our vehicles is offered for sale with no hidden charges.

We have supplied over 100,000 cars in the last 10 years of trading, however we have to accept sometimes we can’t make every customer happy.

“Give this company a miss.”

written by MelR on 03/08/2012

Having purchased a Peugeot 308 in Feb 2012, I was impressed with the polite and non-pushy sales people and the no hassle purchase. It really was an effortless purchse. However there was clearly a fault with the car, it doesn't drive anywhere near straight, always pulls to the left, considering the car is only a year old it doesn't take an expert to know that this is wrong. Booked in back into Available car at Sutton Nottinham,as soon as, was told tyres had been changed and tracking done, and steering straight. No, car was exactly the same, phoned back again, obviously I was going to get no where with this, as they said I was imagining it and it was just road camber, to be honest I have been driving nearly 20 years, I think I know what road camber is, but no Available Car, would not have it back. Recently I got a stone in one of the belts in the engine, took it to main dealer Peugeot, while I was there I mentioned about the pulling, they took the car for a test drive and said without a doubt there was a problem with the car, no car should drive like that! Got it upn the ramps, surprise surprise, car mechanic, told me the car's tracking had never been done and no tyres had ever been changed around, apparently there is a bolt that comes from manufactor that has never been taken off so this was a fact. Seems Available Car did no more than park it in their garage, also, seems car has had shoddy paint work repair as bonnet is bubbling. Peugeot have given be print outs to take back to Available Car and advised me to tell them to phone them. Peugeot have been fantastic and appreciate they have done me a favour. But Available Car should at least have done the work they said they had. Really disappointed with car, really disappointed with the company, seems they think because car is still under manufactors warranty it removes any responsibilty from them. Please think twice before purchasing a car from this company, it is impossible to return a car, but be mindful they still have responsibilty to you even after their one month warranty expires, check out your rights and you will know that their one month warranty isn't worth the paper it is written on. Don't be deceived by their show rooms and friendly staff.

“Lucky Escape”

★★☆☆☆

written by Alex992 on 17/07/2012

I nearly went and bought a car from available car at the weekend. However I felt the car was slightly overpriced after a quick check of values and a bit worried that a hole in a seat would not be repaired. I also had a look on here at the various horror stories and I have to admit all the smiling faces at Castle Donington could not hide some of the cars which looked a bit tatty and some that smelt of smoke. It is increasingly feeling like a cowboy outfit that is making use of it's "best car supermarket" award to dupe people and maximise profit. A real shame as I know that when it first opened or should I say became "Available Car" it was really good!

Available Car's Response to Alex992's Review

Written on: 30/10/2012

We were sorry to read your review about AvailableCar, we always want every customer to be pleased with their experience and feel that the cars are fairly priced and value for money.

We can only assume that this second hand car had not yet completed our full preparation, which was the reason for the minor faults and some may also have a smell before they are fully cleaned. Especially those car's owned by people who smoked or had a dog.

Unlike other retailers, we actually welcome customers to view our cars whilst they are still being prepared, in the hope that they appreciate the fact we will of course, fully check, prepare and fix and valet every car, just like we always have done.

We also publish a copy of our inspection report for every car on our website, showing any work we carried out. We are not aware of any other Main Dealer or Car Supermarket in the UK that is as upfront and forthcoming and honest with this information. We spend hundreds of pounds on every car making sure our cars are the best prepared cars around to Main Dealer Standards and we make sure each meet our in house valet quality control standards before release.

We also make sure all of our cars meet our Availablecar Provenance before the car is released to its new owner. The Provenance includes:

Mileage certification checks on all cars
Oil service if required or scheduled
72 zone mechanical, technical and structural checks
Schedule checked to manufactures standards and quality
Minimum 2.5 mm tyres tread on all tyres
History checked with banks, insurance, DVLA and police.
• Guaranteed no outstanding credit
• Guaranteed clean title to ownership
• Guaranteed no major insurance accident claims.
• Guaranteed registered with DVLC, not cloned or stolen
Jet wash & full valet by our own professional team
Free 12 months MOT if due within 6 months
All cars supplied with 2 keys
All AvailableCar customers are protected 100% for all funds paid
Pre-handover inspection and road tested by our own qualified technicians

Copies of all documents above are supplied on request of purchase.

On a daily basis we compare all of the vehicle prices to make sure our cars are the cheapest, however we do understand that however hard we try one may slip through the net. So for the peace of mind of our customers we have in place the unique AvailableCar Price Promise, which means should you find a car of equal quality and value, cheaper at a Main Dealer or Car Supermarket within 7 days of vehicle order, we’ll refund the difference.

Lastly, in regard to your comment that we are a ‘cowboy outfit duping customers’, we feel you are completely wrong. Our customers are very demanding and expect a very high quality product and service, which is why we are so successful.

May we also remind you that 90% of our cars are one owner owned and have a full service history to offer clarity and peace of mind.

We do not know if this is a genuine review or if this was written by another dealer, however we welcome you to get in touch so we can be of further assistance and answer your complaint further.

“When is a car ready to go?”

★★★☆☆

written by on 02/07/2012

Firstly I'd like to say the customer service here was excellent, friendly surroundings & staff, we viewed a car today, there were a few issues why we were not able to drive it away today, but the main reason which was totally beyond our control was that the car had no MOT, the car was 3 years old in march 2012, so now needed an MOT, so even if we'd had enough utility bills etc we couldnt have driven it away, even though the salesman said "it was ready to go!". So for now my hard earned cash will stay in the bank :o)

Available Car's Comment

Written on: 13/11/2013

Having read your review about AvailableCar, firstly we wanted to thank you for the positive comments you gave us regarding customer service. As a company, we pride ourselves on excellent service not sales, so we were pleased with your comments.

However, we were very sorry to hear that we were not able to help you further with arranging the car of your choice.

Just to explain, when a car first arrives on-site we always check the history of the vehicle to make sure we are happy to put the car on sale. Part of that check is to find out how long remains on the MOT as we have a standard procedure that no car should ever leave the AvailableCar site, with less than 6 months left to run.

If a car is sold and is still awaiting an MOT, then we prioritise the vehicle and normally have the car ready within one to two days, which also allows us to fully prepare the vehicle for the customer.

Due to the sheer scale of cars we have in-stock, it is impossible to have every one fully MOT prior to going out for display. We hope customers don’t mind waiting 1-2 days if necessary for the MOT to be done. Having said that, hundreds of our current cars do have MOTs and can be driven away today.

We are very sorry if you were given the impression that the car you liked would be available that day. Unfortunately we have to take the necessary procedures to ensure that MOTs are done, which was the reason the car wasn’t available that day.

Should you have any further questions, and then please don’t hesitate to contact us.

“It's a Con”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 28/06/2012

Availablecar in Castle Donnigton have made me feel like I have been totaly ripped of. A numbers of pointers for any future buyers below. Their web site offers free 7 day insurance which was very attractive as it makes the whole process easier. howver as soon as i paid my deposit, they said it wasn' available a due to a computer glich. So you now have to get your insurance sorted. If your transferring it from another car it needs to be done 2 or 3 days before you collect your new car so they can get their paperwork done but that means you won't have insure on you existing car so how do get there???? If your thinking of p/X then don't. They offer a really low price. I got double (yes double) what they offered on We buy any car which is by no means giving a high price. Next thing they don't tell you when you buy until you have handed over your deposit is that there is only certain days and times when you can collect your car. So depite being open at the weekend to take your money you will then have to take time off work to collect the car in order to suit them beacuse their handover team don't work weekends, Their sales guys dindt know diddly squat about cars, he tried to tell me that the spare wheel was missing when we took the car out for a test drive because they take them out to stop people stealing them. The car we were testing in fact doesn't have a spare tyre it has an automatic reapir kit. All in all a pretty appalling experience

Available Car's Comment

Written on: 30/10/2012

May we first of all apologise for the fact that you did not feel you received good customer service and you were miss-led. It is always our intention to make sure every customer enjoys buying their car from AvailableCar, so we thought it may be helpful to point out a few important factors.

Firstly, our business works with hpi the car data company and because of this, and our relationship with them, we were able to offer our customers the free 7 day insurance policy through Swinton Insurance.

Unfortunately, when you brought your vehicle to us, it was at the time hpi had just changed their contracts from Aviva to Swinton. Unfortunately Swinton was not as prepared for the switch over as they should have been which left our customers’ having problems with this service.

As soon as we were made aware of this we withdrew the 7 days insurance, so no further customers were inconvenienced. We are very sorry you got caught up in this and were left disappointed. Dealing with a third party of which we had no control was very disappointing, so we have since switched our free Insurance to a 5 day cover that’s provided by AVIVA, who are not aggressive and provide improved customer service.

We are also very sorry to hear you were so disappointed with the part-exchange price which we offered you. AvailableCar offer the part-exchange service to help customers move from one vehicle to the next easily. We do aim to always offer a fair price which in most cases is more than most other Main Dealer’s or Car Supermarkets offer.

Part-exchanges are very valuable to us as they are often the next car to retail. We have re-checked our valuation of your part exchange we believe it was £250. Your statement that you sold your car to “we buy any car” and they offered you twice the price that we offered you, is honstly the first time we have ever heard of anybody getting more from this company than from us.

We always say that if any customer can get more money for their vehicle by selling it privately and they want the hassle then that is great and we would be delighted you still purchased from us. We offer this service, as many customers find it much easier than having to sell their car before buying a new one.

Another service we wanted to explain was our when you collection service. We have a dedicated handover team at both our sites to ensure our customers have a great collection experience day. We arrange handovers Monday through to Friday for our customer because:

• In the unlikely event there is a problem with our used vehicle on handover, we have our workshop team on hand to be able to sort any little problems immediately

• We have our admin team here to alter any documents and paperwork if needed

• The post office is also open to allow customers to be able to tax their new car, should they need to

We always try to be flexible on these arrangements and can organise handovers up to 6pm at night, for people who struggle with there working commitments.

Finally we wanted to apologise for the miss-understanding between the Helper and yourself when discussing the spare tyre. All of the cars on site at AvailableCar are fully prepared and are left unlocked for the customers to view at leisure. 80% of new Fords and the majority of Vauxhalls and most other make brands no longer have spare wheels as standard. We do sell 100’s of cars per month with no spare wheel.

We do remove things like handbooks, service history, cigarette lighters, spare keys and inflator kits, sat nav discs when are supplied with the car but definitely not spare wheels, which was the case in this instance. No spare tyre was supplied with the car in question, only an inflator kit.

Any car that does have a spare wheel will have it in the boot of the car along with any tools needed to remove the wheel.

We really hope this goes some way in explaining some of the reasons behind your experience with AvailableCar and your comments. We do hope you are enjoying your new car.

If we can be of any further assistance, then please feel free to call us directly.

“Never again!...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 18/06/2012

I walked into the showroom and was greeted by some very friendly staff, unfortunately this is where the pleasantries ended. Upon showing interest and purchasing a car i had been handed around no less than 5 different people throughout the process. finaly was handed my car over 5 days later which was still covered in polish smears and white paint (used for marking out information on the car). Upon asking for the a copy of the checklist i felt i was fobbed off by being told it wasnt available at the time as it was across at another part of the building and would follow soon. i was also only handed 1 key to the car being told the other was faulty and somebody would phone within the next couple of days. Not a good start. So i finally get my car home and start putting child seats in and setting up the child locks and i find a 3 inch long and fairly deep gouge out of the rear door shut. find also that the childlock on the rear right hand side doesnt work and decide it isnt too important, we were going to go out for the day so i would contact availablecar.com when i got back. Set off out for the day, get on the motorway and find the car started pulling to the left, it did not do this when i took it for the test drive i am sure!. Next thing im sat at some traffic lights and the car gets stuck in first gear, i press the clutch pedal and the revs get higher and the clutch seems to be slowly engaging even though my clutch pedal is fully depressed. i had to turn the engine off to get it out of gear. everytime i select reverse gear from that point on the gears grind and i can no longer select 1st gear straight from reverse since then. i have to either move the gearstick to another position first of let the clutch out in the neutral position before pressing the pedal again to select first gear. availablecar.com want to take the car in for repairs in 8 days time!. I dont feel the car is drivable and to be honest i am scared of getting it stuck in gear permanently. i've only had the car 3 days. I shall be taking the car back tomorrow and letting them know i either want it looked at straight away or they can have the car back. I need a car to take the kids to school and to get to work.... I am not a happy bunny!.

Available Car's Comment

Written on: 27/02/2013

May we firstly take the opportunity to apologies for the series of errors you experienced with your purchase from AvailableCar. Every car, by law, has to go through strict safety tests and checks prior to going on-sale. Unfortunately very rarely, once a car is bought, some errors do occur as it is used cars in which we are dealing with and the car in question here, had done over 50,000 miles.

In over 12 years of trading and having sold over 100,000 cars, we only have a handful of bad reviews like this one, which unfortunately can be left by customers who have experienced a fault with the car they bought.

No car should ever leave our showroom with faults, however sometimes things can go wrong, as they do with anything. However, we like to think we always offer the highest level customer service when dealing with any faults or repairs and we will only allow the customer to take the car, once they are completly happy that any fault has been repaired.

When the customer came into the showroom after purchasing his car, he told us about a faulty child lock. AvailableCar agreed to happily look at the fault and after-sales would book the car into the workshop. Unfortunately, during this time the customer also told us about a fault when changing gear, so we agreed to book the car in and provide a courtesy car. It was diagnosed that the clutch slave cylinder was not holding pressure and so the part was replaced along with the door latch and the scratch was touched in and the vehicle was returned to the customer.

Later that same month, the customer unfortunately again informed AvailableCar that the clutch pedal was slow to come up. The vehicle was brought straight in and the customer was supplied with a courtesy car. The fault was diagnosed as a faulty clutch and this was subsequently replaced.

Our Showroom Manager agreed to fix all the faults and give the customer a complimentary Diamond Brite service as a good will gesture. It was agreed that AvailableCar would also collect the car and return it, when the work had been completed, which the customer was happy with.

Once delivered back to the customer, further discussions were had that there was still some difficulty when selecting gears. As the customer had already had to wait for his car we got the vehicle straight in and the customer was provided with a courtesy car for the inconvenience.

The vehicle was tested for two days and we were unable to replicate the fault. The vehicle was returned and we asked the customer if they experienced any further faults to call us straight away.

Later that day the customer called informing us that after driving around for two hours that the gears were becoming stiff, so we immediately sent a mechanic straight out to the customer’s location taking a courtesy car with them. We diagnosed the fault as a faulty clutch master cylinder. Once the repair was completed and the vehicle tested, it had a re-valet and got delivered back to the customer’s home.

Every time the vehicle has been into AvailableCar we have endeavoured to provide the customer with an MPV for his inconvenience as he has a family and a car was greatly needed.

We have spoken to the customer since his complaint and he agreed that AvailableCar did everything possible to try and sort out all the repairs for him quickly.

After discovering the fault, the car is now in perfect working order and no further faults have been found. We ask the customer to give us a call directly if he has any further issues which he needs to discuss.

“Poor sales man, overpriced cars.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by rslfb30 on 04/02/2012

We didnt buy a car from availablecar, the reason being we found on thier web site an Audi A6 2.7tdi Lemans 2008 with 59000 miles. The pictures on the web page looked great, the car looked in good order. We phoned to arrange a test drive the next day. We asked the sales man on the phone if the car was in good condition as we were driving up from Bristol, Great condition he told us. When we arived we were taken to the car, i looked round to check panels, wheels, tyres and interior. Three of the 19" alloys were heavily damaged due to curbing. Rear tyre had 3" gash on the side wall. There were 9 deep scraches and three small dents in body work. The drivers seat had damage to seat that would require specialist treatment. The pictures on the web site did not show any of these defects. the alloy wheel in the picture was the only good wheel on the car. I used to work in a body shop and roughly priced the repair work required to get car up to standard,£80 each for wheels, £150 for seat reair, £180 for new tyre and up to £300 for body repairs. I spoke to my wife and agreed if they would knock off £300 from the £14499 asking price we would buy it cash. They would not budge on the price at all and the idiot sales man tried to tell me to expect this kind of wear in a car of that millage and age. I did not and will not ever buy a car from this company. I bought an emaculate Audi A6 2.7tdi Lemans Quattro Multitronic with 59899 miles which is higher specced for £15000 at carbase they dropped from £15999 for cash sale and no repairs to worry about.

Available Car's Response to rslfb30's Review

Written on: 27/02/2013

Firstly may be apologies for the experience you received, we always want customers’ to be happy with their purchase and the service they encounter.

We are very sorry that our representative informed you that the car was in ‘great condition’, we too can see how this may have been miss-information. What they should have said was, that it was in great condition for the age, price and condition, however it still had to go through a full preparation service to rectify minor faults prior to you travelling all that way.

We spend thousands of pounds a week on making sure our cars are prepared to the highest standard possible. We make sure all our cars meet our valet quality control standards before release. This does include any smart repairs that are needed i.e. scratches, dents and seat repairs.

We make sure every car meets our AvailableCar Provenance before the car is released to its new owner.

Our Availablecar Provenance includes:

Mileage certification checks on all cars
Oil service if required or scheduled
72 zone mechanical, technical and structural checks
Schedule checked to manufactures standards and quality
Minimum 2.5 mm tyre tread on all tyres
History checked with banks, insurance, DVLA and police.
• Guaranteed no outstanding credit
• Guaranteed clean title to ownership
• Guaranteed no major insurance accident claims.
• Guaranteed registered with DVLC, not cloned or stolen
Jet wash & full valet by our own professional team
Free 12 months MOT if due within 6 months
All cars supplied with 2 keys
All AvailableCar customers are protected 100% for all funds paid
Pre-handover inspection by our own qualified technicians
Copies of all documents above supplied on request on purchase

We feel had you seen the car after full preparation, you would have been happy with the price of the car.

Just to explain, all of our cars are priced at the best price after doing a comprehensive UK check across all other dealerships and supermarkets UK-wide. We do not offer discounts or incentives (i.e. mud flaps, car mats, fuel) to buy our cars, as we feel this shows the car was overpriced to start with and goes against our company policy. Everyone pays the price they see on the cars, with no haggling or deals.

The reason the new car you purchased was dropped by £999 was because it was overpriced from the outset.

On a daily basis we compare all of the vehicle prices to make sure our cars are the cheapest, however we do understand that however hard we try, one may slip through the net. So for the peace of mind of our customers we have in place the unique AvailableCar Price Promise. This means “if you find a car of equal quality and value, cheaper elsewhere within 7 days of vehicle order, we’ll refund the difference”

We hope this goes some way, in explain what happened and sorry once again for any confusion.

“Poor p/x prices,worst service”

Purchased our car 18mths ago from available car for £12,000.The multi point check is a joke as on delivery a friend of mine who is a mechanic noticed the brake pads and discs were illegal !!Had to threaten legal action before they were interested in changing them.Made a big mistake by giving them a second chance.Have been in this week to look at changing our car and was offered £5,000 for a car they charged me £12,000 for 18 mths ago. When i pointed out that they were selling the same car, same year, spec etc but with 5,000 more miles on the clock for £9,499 the salesman went back to the valuer who then came back i said £5,000 was the price take it or leave it.When i pointed out that they were making just under 100% profit they disagreed saying they only make aprox £800 on each car, even though i was looking at the same car on the forecourt for £9,499 (Not the brightest!!)Would never go back or recommend, worst customer service ever come across and no faith in standard of the cars

AvailableCar thought it would be beneficial for any ReviewCentre.com site visitor looking at this to know the full facts and history behind this complaint.
Firstly may we take this opportunity to say we are very sorry as there were numerous faults with the customer’s car on this rare occasion. We can 100% confirm however, that just like every other vehicle we have in-stock, the Ford Galaxy in question here was fully history checked and prepared before it went on sale and no faults or problems were found.
As an award-winning business we always want to offer the very best customer service to each and every person who visits AvailableCar. We rarely have any problems with our vehicles but unfortunately there has been the odd exception in our seven year history, as we have sold more than 70,000 cars.
After the customers last visit back to us to look into the battery fault, we advised that we would have to send the car back to Ford for rectification to be dealt with by the manufacturer under warranty.
As a way of helping the customer we then agreed to change the car as we can imagine it must be very frustrating to purchase a new vehicle only for it to have a fault and be sent away.
The customer chose a new model Ford Galaxy Zetec Diesel with 12,616 miles on a ’56 plate with a cost to change of £2600. Unfortunately this particular vehicle had to be delayed delivery due to a fault with the electric window system that Ford could not rectify in a reasonable time due to parts being on back order from the manufacturer.
We then offered the customer a Galaxy Ghia, better specification than the Zetec, at the same cost to change of £2600 but unfortunately his daughter did not like the colour. So, after numerous discussions about various models on offer, we provided the customer with a new Ford Galaxy Ghia on a ’57 plate (two plates newer) with 6,421 miles (half the mileage) and factory fitted options of full panoramic roof and blue tooth option at a cost to change of £2800.
This was only £200 more than the Zetec. We decided to reduce the cost to the customer on this occasion out of courtesy.
We then showed the car to the customer and they were extremely happy with it, we also offered to deliver the car out to them personally, which they gladly accepted.
Since then the customer has apologised for the above review and has said that they no longer want this review to be on the internet having been so pleased with our after-care service and have requested several times for it to be taken down but all to no avail.
The Customer had a free courtesy vehicle at all times their vehicle was in for repair.
If any customer ever has any questions relating to their vehicle purchase we are always on-hand ready to deal with the problem.

“I just purchased a Ford Cmax on part exchange on...”

★★★★★

written by Dizzy1 on 07/12/2010

I just purchased a Ford Cmax on part exchange on Monday 6th December.

I had phoned up a week earlier after seeing the car on AutoTrader, and the salesman said he would reserve the car till Saturday, which was the next opportunity I would have to go to Nottingham to view the car.

On Saturday morning I got a phone call where the salesman insisted I should not come down due to the snow which I thought was nice and after actually going on Monday and seeing the 2 6tone trucks moving the snow, I definitely believe going on Saturday would of been impossible.

The car advert was removed from the AvaliableCars website and AutoTrader before I even got there, which meant it was definitely reserved.

I phoned on the Monday to find out how the weather was and was advised on the last 50yards of my journey to go slowly because of the ice. I drove up and the ice bit was quite bad, but still drivable over(I think AvaliableCars should of made an effort to clean this even tho its not really there problem, it would just make it easier for potential customers to get to there premises without crashing).

Anyway i arrived at the front of the store and parked where I could see the Cmax gleaming, went inside the store where the receptionist actually knew of our arrival and where we had come from(nice touch). We where told to take a seat, after 3 minutes a salesman came over showed us the car, and went to get garage plates to take us for a test drive, 5 minute drive, i asked him to floor it to check the kick as it was an automatic which he did, he also said they don't do that unless asked to(so always ask), always best to check, incase their is a gearbox issue.

Got back, aggreed to purchase the car, this is the annoying bit, as the last owner was a mobility driver, the car had no tax so we had to phone for insurance via a company provided by AvaliableCars and paid free for 7days, then a guy had to go to the DVLA Nottingham to get it taxed as it could not be done at the post office as it had never had road tax. (we where told of this over the phone and where aware before we left, we accepted it as it was the cheapest of the kind of Cmax we could find.)

We then got an OK price for our car seeing how Mercedes offered a grand less when I asked them how much they would give in part exchange, I was happy enough. Paper work took longer than I expected with the extra questionnaires which where kinda forced upon us, not to happy about that, the women should of at least asked us if we where happy to fill them in.

The car was missing car mats, had no Spare wheel(Had the kit tho) and was missing a lighter cap. We where exchanging our old Cmax, only wish I had taken those item and put them in the new one.

Once the paper work was finished the guy arrived about 10minutes later with the Tax disc.

My experience has been good with this company, i believe there are going to be bad experiences at the same time with others, ive had a terrible experience dealing with Ford in the past.

I really didn't expect it to take so long but for future reference when part exchanging a car I have to accept its probably going to a whole day.

I Would recommend this company, and would advice people if you see a car on the site, phone up before you go and ask for a test drive so they can get the car ready for you.

“- Cars on the forecourt are overpriced; ”

written by on 28/11/2010

- Cars on the forecourt are overpriced;
- Ridiculously low P/X offers. Offered me 60% of current trade price;
- Staff are rude, disinterested and VERY bad at their job. It feels like they don't even know anything about cars. One guy called Simon told me "I wouldn't buy from us. I'm not on commission, it doesn't affect me. Do what you want." I worked in sales for 2 years, if I'd have tried this I'd have been sacked on the spot!
- They admit their valuations are low but just say "it's not my decision" and walk off. Well, great. Thanks for that. I just wasted 30 mins driving here and this is what I get?

Like other reviews, they won't budge from the CAP price. They'll tell you it's worth more then make up some story to try to convince you they're the good guys (they told me it costs £800 to do a check that the car's in good condition once they receive it. Erm, no, it doesn't. It costs naff all, actually. Idiots.)

This is the worst dealership I've ever been to. You're a mug if you buy from them.

I was there for over an hour and I did not see one person test drive a car. That should tell you everything you need to know about availablecar...

Poor p/ex prices, most cars are ex rental/contract and bought from auction.
After sales service is a bad joke as is their multi point check scheme!
My car(2 years old) was accident damaged and badly repaired ( no refund, straight into legal speak and evaisive staff)
Save yourself the bother of dealing with these chancers, go to a main dealer, negotiate a discount and get a beter car for less with at least some aftersales service.
I will never buy from these again !

Available Car - First of all, the new all singing and all dance website is dam slow!!, then going onto the test drive it was like having J.Clarkson sitting next door to me (yes he even tried to do the deep voice) then as soon as we back at the office he left to chat up the girl on the reception lol. Then i asked a few questions about the finance and the guy just didn't have a clue (just looked at me very goorm-less throughout) and they keep on saying its 6% when really its more like 13%, must say though, the car is good and got a very good price for it about the only thing i was happy with. Got a good part exchange price too, considering the car was being held together by string etc, even parked it right up against the wall so they couldn't see the dripping water pump LOL. one last thing, would they please allow a small amount of cash to be paid on the day (like the tax), caused so much trouble!!!! overall 2 stars

i to had a bad time with available car castle. when i looked at the car i noticed some bts wrong... paint chips, top cover missing from engine and the headlight was out of line with the body! i was told this would be done for collection! "NO"... i also asked if it had been in any accidents or used as a driving school car for lessons as an ex instructor i no these cars get a beating!! on both counts i was told no!
i arrived to collect and nothing had been done. the car was taken to the "workshop" for the bits to be done,
when it returned the paint chips were gone... thats it!!
i was told thats the best they could get the headlight and it depends what garage they come out of if they have a engiine cover or not...
i decided in the end to take the car with a full mot on the friday, on the saturday i was out driving and heard a banging sound when turning,
i rang the aftersales and was told to ring back monday as they had gone home this i did and was told "i can book you in a week today"!!!
not good enough when my two kids travel in the car so i pushed and got in on the tuesday were i was told they don't know what it is but it's not dangerous... i noticed on the paperwork he had that for the mot it had a n/s/f suspension arm... bit odd for a 06 plate i thought...
i booked the car in for the thursday and collected a courtesy car fully loaded with there stickers... they came off with the hairdryer!!
i picked the car up a week later and they told me both shocker top mountings on the front had been replaced and this was the cause of the noise... again 06 plate with 45000 miles... i'm not a fully skilled mechanic but it just don't add up to me!! then i found out it was owned by a company that lease cars to driving schools i rang them as i had a car from them when i started instructing an they told me it was sold at auction with accident damage to the front...!! i feel my pants have been pulled... NO "RIPPED" from my backside!! i would never reccomend them and couldn't say enough "AVOID BUYING FROM AVAILABLECAR.COM there are many other car supermarkets out there that offer more and tell the truth!!

“All in all a good experience to me, a new way of...”

★★★★☆

written by on 29/10/2008

All in all a good experience to me, a new way of buying a used motor, I know part ex is abit low, but I do not use any printed CAP or Parkers guide, just go onto eBay and look for you ' re make and model car that IS SELLING not the advertised price but the true second hand market price which is the selling price (they are not going to give you more than they can buy one on EBay for). On my Part chop I was offered £1300 against a £15000 1 year old car, I negotiated another £100 by asking for £1500, you guessed it they met me in the middle, the tax on my old motor runs out in a month, but NO WAY would they get a 6 or 12 month road tax from me for NOTHING. If the car was going in P/X the tax if worth anything SHOULD NOT be part of the valuation. If so WHY did I have to pay for my road tax on the new car?
Extra warranty did not apply to my new car as two years manufacturers warranty still left to run,
Finance at 10.9%? Why have their finance, if you have good to excellent credit rating why limit yourself to high interest rates, I got mine at 7.2 and saved £1800 in charges, even in this Credit crunch we are going through.
So to sum it up, YES buy from them, LOOK at the part exchange price against what you ' re motor is fetching on eBay mine was £1500 to £1800 on eBay and got £1400, shop around for you ' re own finance.
Go to a dealer and test drive their car then return to Available Car to buy and save on a main dealer price.
Also check the site at Sutton in Ashfield they may have a better offer.

“Despite the accolades from the press the...”

★★☆☆☆

written by Big Dave Midlands on 05/08/2008

Despite the accolades from the press the availablecar.com business seems to receive, so far my experiences of dealing with them, has been less than positive.
I was a genuine buyer looking to buy a car in the popular £5000- £7500 price range. I was interested in two cars within this price range and submitted an enquiry via their website asking to be contacted. However, nobody rang me, so I decided to drop in on my way home. I had already done some research on the internet prior to my visit on which cars I wanted to look at and what my car was worth in part ex or trade value using the parkers.co.uk, whatcar.com and wisebuyers.co.uk valuation sites, and printed off the information I needed.
I arrived on site and was warmly greeted with a smile by two ladies at the 'reception desk 'who handed me a booklet with all of their cars listed. After a short walk around the pitch, I located the two cars I was looking for and after giving them a look over to see if the cars where in suitable condition etc. I returned to the reception desk to book a test drive. Unfortunately it was at this point where my experience began to deteriorate.
I was asked to take a seat, allocated a number and was shown the coffee machine which costs 25p a cup (I don't think so) but was not shown the free water machine (I found this later on). After a wait of 15-20 minutes where people who had sat down after me had been greeted and led away to a desk by their 'sales person 'I was eventually found by a member of staff, who apologized for the delay and blamed reception for not informing him of my interest. I had seen the reception area call him some time previously and he stank of cigarettes so it doesn't take a genius to work out where he had been instead of dealing with customers.
I asked why nobody had contacted me as I had asked to be called. After a bit of looking around on their system after initially denying they had a request from me, my enquiry was found and the 'white 'team that had been allocated my enquiry had not called. The member of staff told me he was from the 'black' team so he would take over my interest. I then gave the member of staff the registration numbers of the two vehicles I was interested in. After tapping this information in their system, he then recited the information from the computer screen to me very quickly. When I asked a couple of questions regarding the documentation and servicing that was available or would be completed on the car I received a company line 'script 'response about 'dealership standards servicing 'if it needed doing... I was then spoken to about the interest free extended warranty and how much that would cost a month on top (even though I had yet to discuss finance or payment or actually driven a car at this stage). We then moved to the subject of my part exchange vehicle, the member of staff asked me lots of questions very quickly about the car, and we went outside to my vehicle whilst he looked around it. This took another ten minutes. I was asked to leave my keys with him so the 'valuer ' (I am dubious if such a person actually exists) could look it over and get a price. So why did we just waste ten minutes going over it if somebody else was going to repeat the exercise?
Still dealing with my part ex, we came to the issue of car tax. I had taxed my vehicle only 4 days previously for then next 6 months at a cost of almost £100. The member of staff implied that it was against 'the rules 'that had co-incidentally only been changed two weeks ago (yeah right) for me to remove the tax disk and that I had to leave the tax on the car because it was illegal to put a vehicle out to the trade without it. I questioned this so called rule as it was news to me (and I have bought enough second hand motors over the years) I was then told in a cold and impersonal manner that if I took the tax off that I would have a further £100 deducted from my part ex value (come again!). Still reeling from this insult before my car I had actually been valued (never noticed parkers.co.uk having a taxed or non taxed vehicle value!) I then had to wait a further 15 minutes whilst Simon fetched the first car of interest. Eventually after he obtained some trade plates the car was ready for me to drive. The car had admittedly not finished its full preparation cycle (and the valet is the last thing to be done apparently) but it absolutely stank of cigarettes. The member of staff ' s response was that he was a smoker (no kidding) and he couldn't smell it. His next response was to turn up the air conditioning and set it to recycle which only increased the stench. The test route was a quarter of a mile route around the block which in my view is not enough time to get used to a car at all. I asked for a longer route but was told they are not insured for longer routes.
After arriving back at their site, whilst parking it when the member of staff engaged reverse, a bleeping noise sounded from the car. I asked it if had parking sensors, the member of staff joked (I think) that he could reverse into another car to see if it did or not, and it didn ' t matter if he hit the other car as their excess would cover it! Once the car was parked, I was left to look over the car in a bay nearby to their office area, and had a good look over it. Bearing in mind the car had according to the member of staff just been serviced to 'dealership standards 'the oil level was below the maximum mark and the air filter was filthy and black with road grime and needed replacing. The second test drive came and went with the same waiting time for the car to arrive and the same short route offered, and was again left to look around both cars until I was ready to go back in and speak to the member of staff .
After a few minutes of looking over the cars having pretty much decided to go for one of them, so I returned the office area and sat down where I noticed the member of staff had the clip board on his desk with my car keys and valuation notes on it. According to my research using the three previously mentioned valuation websites my part ex value should be some where between £1975 and £2453 and the trade value between £2060 and £2295. I was offered a blunt and insulting £1300 with no explanation other than the 'valuer' had got this figure from the CAP trade guide and the offer was fixed and non negotiable. (I should point out that my car was spot on mileage for the year of car and had a full service history and only two private owners with straight metallic paint bodywork and a mint interior.
Obviously slightly offended by the low offer I produced my information printed from the three websites I had used and said I would accept the lowest website valuation of £1950 for the car and I would sign the deal right there and then. However the member of staff was totally disinterested claiming he had not heard of any of the sites is used and they only use CAP and repeated the statement that the offer was fixed and non negotiable and then added neither was the screen price of the car or the APR of 11.9% (their advert states 10.9%). I asked to speak to the 'valuer 'and was told this wasn't possible.
Needless to say communication broke down very quickly and the member of staff probably in rush for his next cigarette break, was quick to hold out his hand with the statement ' thank you for trying us'. He was lucky he didn ' t receive a swift left hook. Two hours of my time wasted with under pre-prepared cars, a passionless 'Salesman 'who seemed to be devoid of motivation and minimal effort made to please the customer in so many ways. the member of staff seemed keen to point out to me on more than one occasion when discussing my potential purchase if the subject was a bit tricky for him, that he wasn't a salesman, well in that case can I speak to one please?
I am sure there are some who have been happy with their service or vehicle purchased from them, but my own conclusion with Availablecar.com based upon my own experience, is the deal you get is ok if you are an inexperienced buyer, have no part exchange and you want their rate of APR finance for the full term. Other than this you will struggle to get genuine value or service or interest from the staff at availablecar.com.

Does the 3 month guarantee include returning a car if you are not happy with it? I recently (April 20th) purchased a Mark 6 VW Golf 1.4 TSI and it would seem the timing chain has an fault. This is going to cost me in the region of £1100 to have fixed at a garage/VW Specialist. I am not happy at all this has happened just over a month after buying this car from you. What can they do to help?

My experience I had 6 weeks ago was aweful at available car. They offered me rock bottom part exchange on my car, which I was offered more for on we buy any car. The windscreen price of the showroom car was also non negotiable. They wouldn't budge even £50 on a car of £7,000 which amazed me. Normally if you leave your number and walk away from the sale the salesman rings you back with the "I've spoke to the manager..." story but we heard nothing. I think Available car responded to my original post on here with the usual best price, best car etc but the car we looked at was nothing different to the other cars we looked around at. Needless to say we won't be buying there again. We will still use available car for perusing what sort of car we would like as they do stock most types of cars. It's like a nice big shop window!

Hi there. No the price is the price. They don't do haggling. However if you do purchase a vehicle what doesnt have any manufacturer warranty on it. I would recommend getting extended warranty as they only provide you with 3 Months. We bought a car in February this year and already experiencing expensive problems with it! :(

No don't even bother but watch what you are buying I've got a 61 Ford cmax and it's broke down 5 times I've only had it since September plus available car put a new battery it the car and it was the wrong one for the car which messed the system up and the injecters blow I've had 2 new injecters so far.

hi from my own experience the answer is a strong NO they would not move an inch on the price, of either the car they are selling or the offer for my part exchange, all I got was a take it or leave it, and the price offered for the part exchange was awful, to be honest it made for an easy decision for me I just walked away feeling quite insulted by their miserly offer, I went elsewhere and was offered £800 more for a very similar vehicle to the one they were selling. my advice is read the reviews BEFORE you take the plunge all these reviews on here cant be wrong !!!
