We visited weekend of 25th July, 4 kids age 10, 8, 6 and 3! They all loved it, the only arguments were what to do first (including me who wanted a facial!) Pool lovely, plenty to do for all age children (and grown ups!) Food good, surroundings beautiful. Visited theme park, Oakwood great fun. Also visited St.Davids where we hadn't been for years, walk on Newgale Beach, definitely recommended. The issues on site that have been discussed by others will only affect you if you let them! Seeing the bigger picture its great and by next year when we return we are sure it will be even better!

I have not stayed at Bluestone but work for the main contractor that built the facility. I think it has excellent potential and would consider taking my family down there. I think they do have teething problems as every newly built place would do. Centre Parcs would have had problems when they first opened. I take my hat off to the owners and wish the very best of luck to them if they are thinking of a chain of Bluestone parks.

I found this review helpful because...its good to hear the views of others this project effects. I know some suppliers even in Carmarthenshire who have gained business supplying Bluestone with locally produced specialist products. All the best to those involved with bringing the Bluestone project to Pembrokeshire!

“My family and I went to Bluestone the second weekend...”

★★★★★

written by jmiles on 29/07/2008

My family and I went to Bluestone the second weekend it was open (25th July) and had a superb break. A number of people weren't hapy that the whole site was not finished but we were given a discount which more than made up for it.

The quality of the cabin was excellent - we were in a Ramsey Lodge which the children loved as there is "upside down" living with bedrooms on ground floor with living accommodation at first floor level giving wonderful views.

The children loved the Bluelagoon where they could spend all day. They are 8 and 5 and were fascinated by the wave machine. They also went on a jeep safari around the park which they loved and also did a morning session at the Junior Rangers club where they go into the woods to explore etc. the staff who looked after the children on these occassions were excellent really did a splendid job.

It was uphill to the car park and the Blue Lagoon from the lodges but the gradient isn't that steep as my 8 year old son could easily cycle up it.

We gave the children a choice of going back to Bluestone or the South of France again and they want to return to Bluestone!
Well worth a visit.

written by liztaylor on 28/07/2008

In our opinion Bluestone opened too early - it is still a construction site with contractors vehicles roaming around, unmade roads and tracks and bare earth. It will look great in a year or two but I doubt we will be back - unless they seriously address the food quality. What a shame because it's a great concept, stylishly designed but at this stage is not finished or run to the standards you expect at the price and versus Centre Parcs.

“We stayed at Bluestone week of 18th of July, their 1st...”

written by jessica1979 on 27/07/2008

We stayed at Bluestone week of 18th of July, their 1st week of opening and it was our worst experience ever. We were booked in to a 1 bedroom cottage which was for 2 adults and with a cot for our young son. When we arrived we were given £100 of vouchers to spend on site (no explanation why??) and a map which 'clearly' showed where our cottage was. We couldn't see any signposts and none of the roads were finished. There was dust everywhere and deep verges at the side of the roads which we thought were dangerous. After driving around for 15 minutes, a cleaner showed us where to go. There is nowhere to park to get your cases in and the car park is a mile away up hill. Our cottage was a gallery style which wasn't we didn't think was explained properly on internet and booking, and the toilet was filthy. Upstairs there were no curtains on the windows and only a single bed for me and my husband to share!! No mirrors in the whole cottage and lots of things unfinished. We were upgraded to a lodge which although was nice, also came with problems - no hot water, faulty heating switch, faulty tv. We then had to wait 3 hours for our cot - my son went to bed at 9:30pm utterly exhausted. Food is OK, but there is nothing really for the kids unless they want hotdog or burger. The breakfast was buffet style and was cold because they didn't have heat under the serving dishes. There were flies everywhere landing in the juice. Bus shuttle system appeared non-existent, we asked for one to the pool and were told none available and make our own way (prob about 1.5miles up hill) with a baby and me being 7 months pregnant! Swimming pool closed on 3 occasions and nobody told us. We found it a catalogue of problems and everyone we spoke to seemed to be having much the same experience. It was a total disaster and I think should never have opened when in my opinion it is clearly nowhere near ready. I don't think it comes close to CenterParcs and never ever will in my opinion.

My partner and I would definitely go back to Bluestone. It's one of those places which you can imagine having Christmas together whether it rains or not. We really enjoy walking and have covered most of the Pembrokeshire National Park coastline. A great base from which to explore.

Fantastic gym very well equipped and would recommend the Espa massage overlooking the Lake

Liztaylor's Response to hawkone's Review

Written on: 29/07/2008

I disagree with this review because...I am not sure how you enjoyed an Espa massage when the spa is still under construction? To say the place was a little dusty is a bit of an understatement - and thank goodness the weather was great - it could have been a mudbath in the rain. Do you work for Bluestone? I agree it's got potential but I am afraid that the bad news will get out. We did not go around moaning and actually had a great holiday but that was in spite of Bluestone not because of it.

Even though the Spa hasn't opened yet, the therapists are available in lodges by the lake. Full marks for a very enjoyable facial!!

I am booked to go to Bluestone 1st August and you can understand my trepidation. I know the spa is not yet open, (now due mid August) so presumably your massage took place elsewhere. Could I ask where?

The site has potential to be brilliant in a stunning location. It is not finished and the paths are all unfinshed. I cannot believe it has been allowed to open. What a shambles. They could at least have put turf down!!

I found this review unhelpful because...I think they missed the point. Environmentally concrete and tarmac everywhere is a not good thing. It looks like they are going for the natural look which will take time to bed in ( pardon the pun). Unfortunately, in this day and age pristine edges, manicured lawns have taken over from the natural and ecological architecture. Wild flowers and animals, marine animals and woodlore. Get down and dirty girl, nature can be fun!

We visited the Blue Lagoon with our 11 year old foster child who has severe autism on the opening day and found it absolutely excellent! The staff were excellent. The cafe had some delicious food (make sure you try the Chocolate fudge cake). The call centre dealt with our special requests before our visit extremely well. It is definitely worth a visit!

The pool is lovely, nice size. Kids pool great, nice and warm, our toddler loved it! The middle sized pool for middle sized kids is a good idea, for the more timid child, like one of ours its just right! Tipping bucket, water fall etc, all good fun! Our eldest loved the slides! Changing room spacious, cafe - lovely chocolate fudge cake!! Kids nagging to go again!!

I found this review unhelpful because...it seems to be a very biased review. The only way into the waterpark is if you are a guest at bluestone. I wonder why the user has nothing to say about bluestone especially with the current problems they have been experiencing.

I disagree with JLS - the waterpark is open to members of the public on certain days, and to Bluestone guests at other times. That's what I was told, anyway.

written by on 23/07/2008

Bluestone in Wales could be great... and probably will be in a year's time. It has opened too early in my opinion. They need to cover off some of the basics before they can be considered anywhere near the level of Centreparks and the like. Despite the fantastic staff and beautiful views, it simply has the feel of Fawlty Towers at the moment. A great pity.

I stayed on the real opening weekend on 18th July. The Park was slightly unfinished in that the grass had not grown in certain areas. However we were given complimentary vouchers to use as way of softening the blow and the Blue Lagoon water park did open on the Saturday as promised. My 4yr old son absolutely adored the river system which takes you outside and the views on the park are stunning. If you are looking for a Centre Parc experience as we initially did think again. As regaler CP goers you almost become conditioned to staying onsite so to be encourage to "go explore" was a real surprise. But explore we did. The bike ride in Caneston woods was beautiful and serene and the 4x4 Landrovers was the highlight of my sons week. Go - it really is different.

written by Michelle S on 21/07/2008

I have doubts about the other review on this website since it was originally there over 2 weeks ago when the site was not even open! I know this since my family were one of the first families staying at their opening week end of the 18th July. Sense this could be written by a neighbour with a gripe!! The site really has potential to rival the likes of Center Parcs. The lodges are great - towels provided for lodges and towels provided for swimming complex. We would definitely consider going back because the staff made us feel so welcome.
