“MPD has some really great deals however their service...”

★★★☆☆

written by FC360 on 21/04/2010

MPD has some really great deals however their service is abit of a let down. I ordered the phone on a friday and it arrived the following Wednesday which was really surprising, I then rang them to get my number ported over to my new phone and was told it would take 3 days. I then contacted them 3 days later only to be told it would take 5 days so I decided to call T-Mobile only to be told MPD hadn't passed on any information so I gave the CS adivsor the pac code and was told it would be transfered on 21st April, today, which had already happened by the time I woke up. I also found out that MPD had given T-Mobile the wrong information, T-Mobile was told I had a Nokia 6700 with unlimited internet and my name was missplet. The unlimited internet had a 1GB fair usage policy where as Android phones have 3GB fair usage policy. I was able to get T-Mobile to correct all the details so everything is fine now. I would recommend MPD to anyone who wants a good deal but would advise that you contact the network provider to make sure they have the right details.

The website is pretty easy to navigate and it's easy to find what you want although they do seem to lack accessories.

<br/>I had the same issue. I gave my PAC code to MPD.The agent assured me that they will pass it to T Mobile and that it should be done soon. I went away on holiday came back after a week and still nothing happened.
<br/>MPD cannot do number porting since my PAC code at order time is different ( i was on a month pre order).
<br/>I was disgusted and threatened to return my phone.
<br/>
<br/>thanks to t mobile,things are sorted now.

DO NOT BUY!!!!! DISGUSTING SERVICE AND COMPLETE LIARS!!!!!!!

I Ordered a HTC HD2 Mobile Phone on T-Mobile From Mobile Phones Direct about 2 weeks ago. I failed to recieve the handset the day they said it would be due. I let that fly by and thought it was due to the amount of customers they may have. Every day i rang to see when it would be delivered they said every time "tomorrow" and abviously, IT DID NOT TURN UP!!!. Eventually after a week of pestering the company the mobile turned up. IT WAS FAULTY!!! I opened the box for my phone and was welcomed by a huge mark on the screen. Straight away i returned the handset and they said they would replace it with one in perfect workind order. They LIED and never even sent one. I cancelled the order completey and would never in am million years reccommend this company to ANY1! I have resorted to ordering my phone off a mobile service provider instead of a company as terrible as this. Absolutely terrible and NEVER TELL THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously Aviod Mobilephonesdirect.co.uk

I purchased the HTC desire from this company on the 01 April after speakingto them and asking it was in stock and whether it would be delivered on next day delivery, They said no problem and given that i placed my order with them online. BIG MISTAKE!, i had a feeling that their deals were too good to be true.

Overnight my entire bank balance of £4000 (and they also attempted to take another £1000 but couldn't as no funds wwere there) had been removed to pay for a £360 phone, and i spent he next 2 days calling mobilephonesdirect (which i have to do from a different phone number each time or they recognised the number and didn't answer. Mobilephonedirect have said they will give me the money back in 2 weeks and that there's nothing they can do and they were no longer going to discuss the matter. to rub salt into the wound they also said that even though they said the phone was in stock and avalible when i placed the order, its actually not in stock and i will have to wait until around the 10th of may (plus a week extra due to heavy demand). After speaking to about 5 different memebers of staff and another 2 hours on the phone i was able to cancle the original order but once again they said they money would return to my account in 10 working days and that there was nothing they could do.
i read all the bad reviews on here and had a gut feeling to avoid this company being dodgey but due to the great price and me thinking it only happen to probably 1 in 100 customers i went ahead with an order.

Needless to say i've had a terrible week or so aftermath from placing an order with this company and i also had to get a £1000 overdraft(which cost me £75 fee's) to pay of bills while i waited for my money to be returned. This is the first time i've ever bothered to write one of these but due to the fact this company are so rubbish everyone needs to be warned so they dont make the same mistake i did!

The Nokia N900 is advertised on www.nokiaretail.co.uk which is run by Mobile Phones Direct as available for next day delivery. I ordered it on the 31/03/2010 and immediately after paying I got a message saying it is now going to be 3 days for delivery as it is out of stock. I rang on 12/04/2010 and asked for the order to be cancelled, I was told that it was cancelled but checking online later the order was still active, so another phone call on the 13/04/2010 and the customer service person said it was not cancelled and cancelled it while I was on the phone. When asked why the website still says that it is in stock and ready for next day delivery I was told that the website is not updated regularly!!!

AN APOLOGY

I have to write an apology concerning the delivery of my HTC Desire. I received it today and note from the address label that it was indeed despatched when it should have been and that the delay was entirely due to ParcelForce.
The only concern I have now is what happens if it goes wrong.

I wish I had found this review site before ordering an HTC Desire from Mobilephonesdirect. I ordered it last Wednesday evening so expected it to be delivered on Friday. Phone calls take ages to be answered and eventually I gave up trying.
In view of what I have read here about their delivery and repair service I have cancelled the order and gone direct to the service provider.
I would score them zero if this site allowed that.

Keep this company well at arms length! I ordered my HTC HD Mini on Tuesday under the impression that it would be nexdt day delivery. The website both stated next day delivery and that the phone was in stock.
I received an e-mail the following day saying that they had lots of orders over the Easter weekend and to bear with them, basically. I checked the order status on the website which stated 'pending stock'. I phoned customer services on the Wednesday and was told that it was awating a credit check (Why not do this during the checkout process??? How can you state next day delivery???) Phoned up again on Thursday and was told that they didn't have stock and was PROMISED that they were having stock on Friday and it would be delivered out on Friday for Monday delivery..... come Monday and I'm now told that they have had stock in today and I will receive my phone on Tuesday.... a week after I ordered it!
Not a happy customer and certainly wouldn't recommend them.

Avoid at all costs!!!!!!!

I pre-ordered a HTC Desire on the 10th of March and I am still waiting for it a week after their website showed the phone as being in stock and available for next day delivery. I had real problems getting through to the customer support line and e-mail responses take days not hours. I tried to cancel my order but was told by e-mail that I couldn't because the phone had already been shipped. I phoned them to confirm this and it turns out that the phone hadn't shipped at all (the website status showed my phone as 'awaiting despatch'and they couldn't give me a tracking number either). The support guy apologised profusely and said they would cancel my order immediately. Not surprisingly they didn't cancel my order but instead took the money out of my account for the phone.

Will have to chase them again wasting my time and money. A terrible company to deal with.

I can only speak for myself here but I bought a phone contract from them 3 weeks ago and they were amazing. on-line order system was easy, delivery was prompt ( i ordered whilst they were out of stock and got my phone sooner than anticipated). phone was HTC HD2 which is outstanding and the contract deal was great and I went with vodafone in the end for the coverage (existing vodafone user). I originally went for T mobile but changed my mind and phoned their sales dept to change it to vodafone and they were very helpfull. I could not get this particular phone direct from vodafone. In my experience, 10 out of 10.

Never ever buy anything from these guys. I have had the worst experience possible with customer service. I have had to chase them at each step of my purchase process. I placed my order for Nokia N900 2 weeks before christmas and paid for next day delivery but when i didn't get it even after 7 days, i called them and they said.."oh!,we will send it right away". When it arrived, the contract was wrong, and the SIM and the handset were faulty. No replies to my email for days and the phone always goes to the automated answering machine. They say i have to contact manufacturer directly because i called them on the 8th day, not within 7 days.

written by on 15/12/2009

I preordered a phone approximately 3 months ago, and since then it has constantly been due 'next week'. When it was finally released recently they suddenly told me that my T-mobile credit check had failed, despite the fact that I have a perfectly good credit rating. I emailed them about it several times, and they still haven't replied a week later. I finally managed to speak to them over the phone, after trying for days to get through to them and was told that T-mobile probably really needed proof of address, but that it's impossible for them to do anything about it on the phone or internet and that I would have to go into a store 2 hours away. In actual fact the store can't do t-mobile contracts at all, and wanted to sell me an identical vodafone contract £70 more expensive (which they had also offered me over the phone). When I phoned them back they told me that it was 'news to them' that the shop couldn't sort out my t-mobile contract, though he managed to confirm it on his computer within 10 seconds. Funnily enough I wasn't interested in paying £70 more as a thank you for the appalling service they gave.

I had to give this company 1, as 0 was not an option. I bought a Nokia N97 from them at £35/month on T Mobile. At first my phone was great, it arrived on time and I loved it, but very quickly it developed a fault. It would cut off during calls and didn't seem to hold a charge. I thought it was the charger and bought a new one, but this didn't work. My phone deteriorated and now won't even turn on. I called mobilephones direct but was an automoated message telling me they couldn't answer the phones. i tried their online chat but the representative was very rude and cut me off. I have had to contact Nokia and get it repaired through them with no help from mobile phones direct at all. Nokia should not have the responsibility for this, I bought the phone off Mobile phones direct and it was faulty. they should be repairing it or replacing it.

I found the customer service a disgrace and they don't care about after sale service. Would never use them again!

★★★★★

written by 1up on 26/10/2009

I bought a Nokia N97 from Mobile Phones Direct back in July when the handset was first launched; it was by far the best deal on teh handset (£35 per month on T-Mobile). Although there were problems in processing my account as I had just changed address and not told my bank the customer service team kept me fully informed as to the status of the order and I recieved the handset within 2 days.

The handset started behaving stangely about 6 weeks after I got it - it crashed a couple of times during calls. I contacted the customer service team who told me that the handset was covered under Nokia's warranty. the told me where the nearest Nokia repair team was, about 2 miles from where I live). I took it to Nokia and they repaired it in about an hour!

I would buy from Mobile Phones Direct again as even though they weren't able to swap the handset they enabled me to very quickly get the handset repaired. My N97 is now fully working and I have not had any further problems again.

I pre-ordered the new Nokia N97 mini a month before it was available. As promised it turned-up a week before anyone else had it in stock, and direct from a Nokia store owned by Mobile Phones Direct. The Vodafone deal was the cheapest I could find at £30 month. This is the Second phone I've bought from them. 5 stars from me and they do what they say on the tin!

Mobile Phones Direct Only got 1 star as I couldn't give them 0. Have had phone for 2 months when it developed a fault. I was told that after the first 7 days the they have no responsibility and I should deal with the manufacturer, who will take at least two weeks to repair the phone. Based on my experience they either have no understanding of,or respect for the sales of goods act. The phone (HTC Touch Pro 2_ is wonderful, but I should have gone direct to the network even though it would have cost more.

I found this review somewhat helpful because...it relayed an experience but it was clear the customer was expecting too much.
<br/>
<br/>After 28 days it is standard proceedure, whereever you go, that a faulty handset has to be referred to an authorised service centre. Some of the bigger Carphone Warehouse stores has sevrice centres on site as do some of the bigger T-Mobile stores.
<br/>
<br/>Remember The Sale of Goods Act cuts both ways and the retailer has the right to examine the handset to determine if there is a fault and/or the fault was caused by abuse,accident etc
<br/>
<br/>Believe me,this is the very worst sector of the retail industry for "trying it on", threatening and abusive customers etc.
<br/>
<br/>Finally, there is little point in you returning the handset to the supplier if they then have to forward it to a repair centre.

I would personally approach your network carrier first as they ultimately supply your phone, phones direct or other similar companies are simply middle men or brokers so to speak, but you do of course always have the manufacturer guarantee, hope this helps.
Report this content Fenderblender Written on: 20/12/2016
Your contract is with the supplier of the handset which in this case is Mobile Phones Direct so you should always approach them first. If there are Network or operational issues with the phone then contact the carrier to see if they can resolve them for you but ultimately your contract is with MPD.

Report this content Doubtful22 Written on: 21/12/2016
It depends on time since purchase, if it's within a month contact Mobile phones direct, if longer contact Samsung or HTC etc. You can't contact the network because they simply provide the contract and not phone.
Report this content Dragstone Written on: 12/04/2017
Thats a very good question, i would of thought that the phone is delivered by or sent by mobile phones direct and should be their responsibility to assure that they support and help you with the phone in question. With insurance of the phone its usually the insurance company or if you purchased insurance with mobile phones direct that they will help and support you.

Phone was supplied unlocked but with the new 3 Nano SIM as you are taking out a binding contract with that supplier to use their network so not sure why you are concerned that it is supplied unlocked? Your contract for the handset is with Mobilephonesdirect so any issues with that should be addressed to them initially and not the carrier.

I too bought a Samsung S4 from them about a year ago and all went well. Phone deal has been great no problems.

Ordered from them a year ago; they did deliver what was promised, but were extremely slow and full of excuses.

They are indeed a real company. I used them to buy a phone for my son for Christmas. Have you called them? They are very helpful on the phone.

Hi yes I had no problems with them, the only thing I needed to do was chase up my free gift, I in boxed them on facebook and they gave me a direct dial number to call, I found them really helpful and I will use them again, I hope this helps.

The mobile phone direct is a real Company to my knowledge, and usually if the phone is not out of stock should of arrived within two days. I would of phoned mobile phone direct to enquire when the phone should arrive. It seems they don't update customers when the phone should arrive emails. You can contact by enquires. Hope the phone arrives soon i know i had no problems with mine.

Hi I couldn't track mine but I messaged them on facebook through their facebook page and they sorted it for me, it arrived about 4 weeks after I connected my phone sim, they do this so they know you aren't going to cancel your contract, I hope this helps you

I have just taken out a new 12 month T mobile contract with their cashback.  Their cashback information is not clear for 12 month contracts. Please can you confirm in which months I should send you my bill? I sent an e-mail to the requested address a week ago, with the bill attached, but I haven't received any response. Please post how I should proceed now?

You just have to wait till they get it in stock. If you try to cancel you wont be able to get through on the phone or by email. I actually found another telephone number to their head office in Newbury. They will take your name and order number and get mobilephonesdirect to call you which will save you a fortune. I actually wasted almost ten pounds in calls.Hope this helps. Good Luck!!
