“Just wanted to share my story and hopefully inform...”

written by bangoskank on 16/05/2010

Just wanted to share my story and hopefully inform some people what to expect when potentially dealing with this company.

Like many other people I saw the offers for the HTC Desire and saw that they were bargains. So on the 4th of May I decided to go for it. made the order before 3pm and there was no mention of the phone being out of stock, quite the opposite the site bragged about having said phone in stock. So I was surprised when the phone didn't turn up the next day. A quick look round the website turned up that the people should expect delays of 3-5 days. I'd also emailed them and recieved a reply a couple of days later:

Good Afternoon

We are currently out of stock of the HTC Desire until Monday 10th May.
You will be looking to take delivery of your new phone either Tuesday 11th May or Wednesday 12th May.

So there wasn't much I could do but sit tight. A was a little perterbed that I would have to wait, but pointless getting worked up.

It got to Monday and I checked the site again to see my order status and it was still stuck on "Pending Stock". So come Tuesday when it still said "Pending Stock" I dropped an them email again, which has yet to be replied to. On Thursday I rang them and after being on hold managed to speak to someone who said that the delivery had some into a warehouse on the Monday but had been put under a different companies name and that meant they couldn't access the phones. I also said the MD was at the warehouse trying to get them released. Hopefully meaning the phones would be sent out on Friday (14th of May, 10 days after my initial order). It's the Sunday today and my order is still "Pending Stock". I will update again when something happens further.

As of today icancelled my order. 16 days after placing it and they had no idea when they were going to be getting hold of stock. Poor, poor service and an even worse customer service. Never again.

APPALLING SERVICE!!!
i have for the last two hours been calling mobile phones direct and they are not responding at all. i want to cancel my order as they have gone well over a week in delivery for a HTC legend contract. when i call them there is a very unprofessional adviser who keeps on lying. Now they keep on putting me on the answer phone i want to cancel my order and i dont know how to. they arent responding to my messages too. Their offers are cheap but i have managed to get the same deal offer through vodafone directly on tele sales. It just isnt worth the hassle and time they have also stopped the online assistant service. They have conned me now i am going to go to my bank and check what else they have conned me. This has to be the worst experience ever. :(
PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COST!

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY !!!!!!
bought the htc desire on the 4th of may before the 3pm deadline for next day delivery. Like most people i didnt get it the next day. 8 WORKING days later i still have no phone (14th of may).I have spoken to many advisors and sent many emails (with no reply). Also they seemed to remove the chat facility on their website on wednesday/thursday so you have to spend even more money on 0845 numbers. Phoned them up and cancelled it - guy was apologetic but didnt try and keep my custom.
They have great deals but the worst customer service i have ever experienced.

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY !!!!!!

“I went to mobilephonesdirect.co.uk to order a htc...”

written by westie1706 on 14/05/2010

I went to mobilephonesdirect.co.uk to order a htc desire from them.

The website said in stock. I did not receive the goods the next day and they told me due to large demand, there was a delay. I explained that they had the website showing as in stock and they said they would fix it.

2 days later I checked and it still showed in stock even though they had no stock whatsoever.

Luckily for me, vodafone rang (who I am with) and offered to match the deal from t-mobile (that I was going to join) rather than me leave the network.

I rang mobilephonesdirect and told them to cancel....

I went With vodafone - with free htc desire - 18 mth contract, 300mins, unlimited texts and unlimited internet all for £25 inc vat per month.

The other down side of mobilephonesdirect is that they did a credit search on me before they even had the goods.

Mobilephonesdirect should only check your credit file once they have the goods in stock and prior to despatch and agreement, otherwise your credit report grows and grows with "footprints"... from suppliers that dont supply.

I used them in the past, and they where ok, I didnt use them this time and would not use them in the future either.

Not recommended, unless you are 100% guaranteed the item is in stock.

Good value for money? yes, product not in stock.... thats why its cheap!

You could try beepy.co.uk to look at lots of other mobile phone deals that are out there rather than use these cowboys...

Beepy.co.uk ? just as bad... after chasing them for a couple of days inquiring about delivery, as they boast a next day delivery service, here is what I get:

Dear Customer,
Thank you for your recent email,

Unfortunately the handset that you have applied for is out of stock with the chosen network at present.

We are scheduled a delivery within 7-10 days.

Whilst we remain fully committed to fulfilling your order, we appreciate that this situation is disappointing and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Please may I ask you to confirm by return email how you wish to proceed with your application so we are able to update this information as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Ordered this phone on 2nd May 2010 and the website stated IN STOCK for next day delivery. Today I still have no phone and my order status on the website still states Pending Stock.
They have not bothered to contact me at all to let me know my phone will be delayed. If they had then I wouldn't mind waiting.
I've had one reply to an email which said I would receive it on the 11th or 12th but both these dates have past. Spoke to a rude woman on the phone who suggested I cancel my order. Also spoke to a decent guy on the phone but he still couldn't find out what was going on.
Most of the time the phone just rings and then they cut you off.
I had the same problem with the N900 I got from them but gave them another chance as they had the cheapest contracts.
I wont be using them again as all they seem to do is tell lie after lie...

written by on 14/05/2010

I ordered my HTC Desire on Saturday 8th May for delivery on Tuesday and it is now the following Friday the web site still says Waiting for Stock. I did manage to twice get someone on Web Chat earlier in the week and they said it would be shipped the next day. On Thursday they shutdown their web chat - probably too many complaints! So I sent a message to customer services and still no reply. I phoned them and their line goes dead after a few minutes saying to send an email.

Very poor service and expectation setting. I would not mind it if they set the correct expectations and said it would be a week late but they seem to shut down customer service when they are having supply problems.

Very poor.

I can not stress how bad this company are! I ordered my Nokia N900 from their website last Thursday very chuffed with myself that I had found such a good deal. The Website stated order before 15:00 for next day delivery.
Waited in all day Friday... No phone I called them up supposedly my credit check came late I would have to wait till Monday.

The letter that came with the phone stated it would take up to 12 hours for the phone to connect!!! It is now the following Thursday and after constant phone calls, two emails that have not been replied to and countless lies I am still not connected.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF!

AVOID AVOID AVOID

I pre-ordered an HTC Desire 10 days before it's release. Didn't receive phone until 2 weeks after release date despite the website showing "In Stock Now". They never responded to any of my emails, never returned any calls. Each time i called them i was given different information. I was told i would recieve a despatch email when phone was being posted. I did get the email but 1 week AFTER i got the phone!!

I used them as i was a previous customer. i bought a phone from them 1 year ago and received good service at the time. This time however was a disaster and will never use them again!....To date I am still waiting on my "Free Car Charger" I have almost given up despite several promises of it being posted.

Ordered a HTC Desire on contract on the 30/4 because of priceplan on offer. Delayed delivery and I did phone and send an email complaing but to give this company credit they responded this weeken and phoned me this morning to apologise. Phone will be dleivered tomorrow and they have agreed to send through an 8mg data card and a screen cover by way of an apology for delay. A company should correctly be criticised for thier customer service but a true measure is thier reaction to a customer complaint, which I am satisfied with.

Ordered an HTC on a very good tarrif , arrived very promptly and seemed good. Free gift did not arrive with phone , but we were advised it was on the way.

The REAL PROBLEM was the porting of the number from O2 to Vodaphone after being promised one working day we had to chase thme every day. On each call we were promised that it would be later or next day etc etc.

We are still waiting after having the phone for 6 days, admittedly including a weekend, but come on how long can it take!!.

Treat wit caution and good luck

I had a very good experience with this company. Ordered online with no problems, I clarified a couple of point using the webchat IM facility on their website and saved the conversation to email.

I contacted T-Mobile on receipt of the phone regarding the contract who immediately confirmed my 3g usage was on the wrong tariff, increased it and gave me free UK calls.

Maybe I have been one of the lucky ones but it was all pretty easy.

written by goodsamaritan on 01/05/2010

The guys are nothing but a bunch of crooks. I have made a mistake and i sincerely advise everyone thinking to buy from mobileshop direct to think elsewhere.

They have an attractive website and the deals look good.Actually for the time and money you spend chasing them and the amount of bad feeling it is not worth it. My phone was a pre order and i got a £40 " free gift". I ordered an 8 Gb memory card and a car charger. The price was over 40 so i paid £8 .The goods weren't in stock initially. They chose not keep me informed and i had to chase them many times to finally get it.

And when the card turns up it is 4Gb instead of the 8 Gb. Since then i have tried
1) to call customer services numerous times. The staff are not pleasant to deal with and they keep slagging off internal departments.
2) Emailed them - no response is the preferred option.

it has been a month and i am still waiting to return my 4 Gb card or to get my money back

So all in all pretty poor customer services and not a good company to deal with.

written by on 28/04/2010

I ordered a Samsung S8500 Wave with this company on Sunday as they seemed to be the first company with this phone.

Paid £3.50 by credit card for next day delivery etc but 2 days later and no phone. The money has gone through though.

Numerous emails and calls have been unanswered and order status now just shows waiting on stock.

Now looking at this site this company makes you believe they have the latest phone when in fact they dont

You are better off waiting for the mainstream companies to sell it and but it there

I now have to find a way of cancelling the order or just accept a £3.50 loss and cancle all the direct debits etc when it appears.

“Although the deals they offer look very good,...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 27/04/2010

Although the deals they offer look very good, everytime I've called them since they say they have no stock.
Preordered the HTC desire and according to the website I was entitled to £40 "free" accessories. So ordered an 8gb card and car charger.

1. The HTC Desire came about ten days later than expected. (a friend that preordered 2 weeks later than me received his ten days before i did)

2. To date still havent recieved either the "free" 8gb card nor the car charger (my friend hasn't recieved his "free" items either)

3. All calls to customer service, entail me explaining every detail of my order, and them telling me:

a. they have no stock
b. whoever took my call last time didnt record any details or update the order.
c. try calling the end of the week
d. and again they have no stock

I'd suggest staying away from mobilephonesdirect.co.uk. (unless you want a headache chasing them about, which again costs you time and phone bills money) Although on paper their deals may look better than others, it doesnt matter as you wont get the free items anyway. There's better more reliable phone companies out there surely. I wish i'd gone with mobiles.co.uk.

I purchased a Samsung phone from mobilephonedirect and it was brand new. I would be confident and especially as its pre-ordered that the phone is a complete new phone unboxed. When your new to a Company like this one it can be an unsure experience of what service you will be provided with. I can be completely happy and reassured you will be satisfied with the customer service as i have been.

I've had 2 new and 1 refurbished from them. The new ones really are new - sealed box with ALL the correct contents. The refurbished one was indistinguishable from new - so no problem there either. Over a number of years, I've found them a good and reliable outfit to deal with.

I would personally approach your network carrier first as they ultimately supply your phone, phones direct or other similar companies are simply middle men or brokers so to speak, but you do of course always have the manufacturer guarantee, hope this helps.
Report this content Fenderblender Written on: 20/12/2016
Your contract is with the supplier of the handset which in this case is Mobile Phones Direct so you should always approach them first. If there are Network or operational issues with the phone then contact the carrier to see if they can resolve them for you but ultimately your contract is with MPD.

Report this content Doubtful22 Written on: 21/12/2016
It depends on time since purchase, if it's within a month contact Mobile phones direct, if longer contact Samsung or HTC etc. You can't contact the network because they simply provide the contract and not phone.
Report this content Dragstone Written on: 12/04/2017
Thats a very good question, i would of thought that the phone is delivered by or sent by mobile phones direct and should be their responsibility to assure that they support and help you with the phone in question. With insurance of the phone its usually the insurance company or if you purchased insurance with mobile phones direct that they will help and support you.

Phone was supplied unlocked but with the new 3 Nano SIM as you are taking out a binding contract with that supplier to use their network so not sure why you are concerned that it is supplied unlocked? Your contract for the handset is with Mobilephonesdirect so any issues with that should be addressed to them initially and not the carrier.

I would of phoned mobile phone direct to enquire when the phone should arrive. It seems they don't update customers when the phone should arrive emails. You can contact by enquires. Hope the phone arrives soon i know i had no problems with mine.

Hi I couldn't track mine but I messaged them on facebook through their facebook page and they sorted it for me, it arrived about 4 weeks after I connected my phone sim, they do this so they know you aren't going to cancel your contract, I hope this helps you

I have just taken out a new 12 month T mobile contract with their cashback. Their cashback information is not clear for 12 month contracts. Please can you confirm in which months I should send you my bill? I sent an e-mail to the requested address a week ago, with the bill attached, but I haven't received any response. Please post how I should proceed now?

You just have to wait till they get it in stock. If you try to cancel you wont be able to get through on the phone or by email. I actually found another telephone number to their head office in Newbury. They will take your name and order number and get mobilephonesdirect to call you which will save you a fortune. I actually wasted almost ten pounds in calls.Hope this helps. Good Luck!!
